MrDaff Report 10 Jan 2010 11:15

Morning all.... Maz it is a little warmer here, too... but snowing gently.... and still cold enough for it to settle

I have been out and put food out for the birds.... that robin sent the magpies scarpering, so funny!! It was sad to see the thrush dive for the pasta.. it must have looked like worms... so I did some more, and mixed it in with catfood... Jethro was disgusted, but appeased a little when I showed him the tin... he doesn't do tins, only sachets, lol I now have 4 feeding spots around the garden, front side and back, plus I have thrown some fat balls over the fence onto the wasteground area at the side of the garden... it is protected a bit there, as we have 5 oaks and a couple of horsechestnuts bordering that fence........ I shall need to take out a 2nd mortgage at this rate!

It is grey and dismal here...... we are forecast slow but steady snow all day..... I am a little tired of it now, to be honest with you. Never mind, it'll soon be spring!!

I am not sure what we shall be doing today... slobbing out, probably. Someone will need to nip out and get some broccoli and cauliflower... although that now stinks... I have bits of smell coming back.... we did a sniff game last night.... so funny!!

I have some sense of smell back... but it is horrible, and actually influences my tastebuds... so, sherry, cauli, swede, cola, ginger ale, Lynx products, oranges, lemon, ginger (but not fresh ginger) milk, mushrooms, strawberry jam, crunchies, twirl and caramel bars... but snickers and plain chocolate are fine..my Cinnabar perfume, my Dove shampoo and bodywash... and all the others in the cupboards as well, including the baby stuff, the stuff R bought to keep the loos smelling sweet... now they are strong!!... the cheap washing up liquid, but Fairy is not too bad, fabric conditioner all smell exactly the same... a sort of musty earthy dank smell, so thick you can taste it... and that is how the Christmas turkey tasted, so I think it had begun by then... every day, more things are added to the list. It looks like almost anything perfumed, smells bad to me!

I can't smell the traditional *nasty niffs* at all, and am still eating them.... even though I hated some of them before, like blue cheeses. I can't smell bad food, or nasty body odours, burning food, dead mice behind the sofa, or traditional *nice* smells like bacon cooking,

As Ann said elsewhere, it will probably all sort itself out... but because we are surrounded by these perfumes, you can't get away from them....... they are there in the background all the time... someone walks past, and the smell of their clothes, their perfume, their shampoo, is vile, and too much of it makes me nauseous and ill. It is on me all the time... it does ease, but it is in the background... I have washed the floors in here this morning with plain hot water...... because I could smell the perfumed floorwash stuff I did it in yesterday......

Oh my goodness, that is a right old whinge, isn't it?

It is a good thing, I know, but it is very frustrating while it is sorting itself out... it was better when I had no smell at all. I have googled it.... I am surprised at how little is known about it!

Right... off to find something not to do...

Love

Daff, I wonder if you have to make yourself desensitize. In other words make yourself live with the smells until you become immune to them again. Like when you first wear hearing aids everything is ultra loud but after a short while it becomes normal. If you avoid them you wont adjust. And with sherry of course you will have to hold your nose. if it all smells musty it must be a particular ingredient that may be common to all things that is overpowering the rest. maybe when your sense of smell comes back properly it will even out.

Maybe find something you can stand (how are you with essential oils like lavender? and dab a bit on so you can sniff it when something makes you feel nauseous.

I am not on much at the moment as I am knee deep in filing and shredding and sorting. This snow has a lot to answer for.
So I have sorted out 2 years worth of bank and credit card statement to keep and the rest can be shredded. It will result in a mountain of shredding which I don't think our recycling will accept. *sigh!!!

Hello everyone:o)

Bit warmer this today, still trying to snow, but nothing settling.
Madoc is doing great, although l did have him in bed with me last night, he was abit grizzly so l slept in the spare room wth him, we kept each other warm:o))

Vic has pulled a muscle in his back so finds some things difficult to do, but getting a wee bit better today:o)

Just had a chat with my friend that has a;zheimers, bless her, it was much easier to understand her today, better time of the day too. They are coming here fr a week end of the month, she's really looking forward to it, so are we:o). Her daugher & fiancee moved in with them a few months ago to be her carer,also so that her dad can keep working, she's only 23 and finding it quite a strain sometimes, Such a wicked desease!!

You all sound very busy with all sorts.
Yes Daff....l can't believe how quickly the time has passed, those babies are'nt babies anymore. l thought you had been on GR longer than that.

Do you speak to Puss, if so please send her my love:o))

Take care all:o)

I am sure you are right, Ann......lol... I have just had chucky egg and toast and it tasted divine, so all is well in my little world, lol... oh, and a rant elsewhere, so am now a very happy bunny... I haven't any oils at the moment... I always used to use them, mixed my own... but started to react to so many of them that I stopped... the chamomile was ok, but I think it is about 2 years old now, lolol.. and I wouldn't be able to smell it unless it was nasty, lol.... I am sure I shall get used to it...

I was just disappointed, as I expected it to be like a Disney movie, and come back all beautiful in a whoosh... sort of romantic, suddenly realising I could smell nice niffs again, lolol I know I know.... I hadn't thought it through... no pain no gain, lolol

I use the shredded paper in the compost heap...... mix a bit in every time I add to it..... it soon goes down I use the fluff from the tumble dryer as well... and the vacuum cleaner bags... well I do now that they are paper.... I used to tweeze out the bigges bits when I used the cloth ones, lol

My bank statements are all now online... as are the credit card, Sky, and something else I can't remember now....... we do most things online these days... now that I have that hard drive thingy I download the statements onto that every so often, just in case, lol.

It is all those stupid things, unsolicited, which come through the door, and have your details already printed onto card and loans, Insurances for your old legwarmers which might be worth a fortune on e-bay etc etc. Now they really get on my nerves, but I am getting good at zapping those straight away...

What I am finding difficult is getting rid of the bank account details for our German and Cyprus bank accounts..... I mean... well, they are now in the realms of ancestral documents, it's been so long since we were there, lol And they are in the garage... in a filing cabinet all their own... blocked in by my uncles' stuff... which my dad has not gone through yet (three years after his death).

Oh well, I am bright and breezy now...... I like your idea of blocking my nose when I am drinking the sherry... I mean to say, a girls' gotta do what a girls' gotta do (have I got all my 's in the correct way around? I am dreadful with those, still!!)

AnninGlos Report 10 Jan 2010 14:28

Yes our banks and three Ccards are now on line but the CCards so far have not offered the facility to go paperless while the bank has. And I am shredding bank details from 2005 - 7 and CC the same. I never got around to doing it last year it was just all shoved in a box so I am paying for ir this year. Both our large compost makers are full with.... compost waiting for spring to spread it, we have put shredding in but have too much now I am afraid it is going to have go and rot down in land fill as there is so much. I will try sending some with the recycling and see if they will take it. We are pretty good with recycling so don't feel too guilty.

MrDaff Report 10 Jan 2010 14:48

Ann, I keep all mine for 5 years, lolol.... so I am just about to start gathering all of the ones from April 2004 to March 2005, and that was the last year I was paper, I think.... we moved in the Autumn of 2005, and I think I went online before we moved..... I suppose it comes from keeping records at work..... we had so much we had to hang on to, with statutory lengths of time... can't remember all the details, but some for 5 years, some 10, and others for 30 years!!

I did the ones from the year before a bit late.... during the summer, as I didn't feel up to it before... this year, I shall do them smack on time. It was always my *Easter Holiday* job, lolol

apparently unless you are self employed you only need to keep credit card statements and bank statements for 2 years, utility bills you can get rid of as soon as you pay them. (unless you think there will be a disagreement). Cheque book stubs you can get rid of as soon as they have appeared on your statement.

Good morning, now have new specs, taking a bit of adjusting to as they are heavier than my others and thinner. I will probably take my own advice to other people and wear them an hour at a time at first. I also found a previous pair that are very similar to some in the shop now and am having those made up in the same prescription for half price. So two pairs for £360 which I think is good value. I have a complicated lense, astigmatisms in both eyes, short sight and varifocal reactolite.

Good morning everyone...back from surgery (all is absolutely fine, thank goodness) and then on to Hobbycraft... and I have been busy scrapbooking... it is all ready to glue, so will get on with that this afternoon... I must sort some washing out, and Littlie's bedroom....

It is a bit warmer here today, but cloudy and the odd flurry of snow... all the birds have found the feeding stations... as they start feeding at one, so I have put another up as well... all looks very Heath Robinson-ish, so I shall look at what I can buy that does the same job, and keeps the birds safe from marauding felines... *glares at Jethro and Hermie*

I am feeling really really well today... aches and pains at a minimum, no painkillers required, all bright eyed and bushy tailed..... and armed with a list as long as my arm of things I need to do, lol.... and an even longer list of things I would rather do... *sigh* I end up doing nothing when it gets like this... I just cause chaos!! At the moment everywhere is reasonably ok... but it doesn't stay like that with me around.... immaculate to bombsite in 10 minutes flat!! ;¬))

Ann, I finished work in 2005... and I still get self-assessment tax forms, so don't like to throw things away... I have thrown away all the phone, gas, catalogue, etc etc bills... well, zapped them... I did that a while ago... I had some going back years, lol.... but it is other stuff I don't want to throw out... stuff from when we let the house, for instance. It doesn't feel *right* throwing away the stuff from the last tenant... I shall do it this week, lolol

R has almost every wage slip he has ever had.... and the missing ones keep turning up in things like the mortgage files, lol

I do hope you are having fun with your slow cooker, BC...

Ann..... back again... I had a wonderful idea for your shreddings, lol... well, it's a bit late this year... but... put them into plastic bags.... tie loosely, so that there is some air around, but so that they are "squishable" and then use them to store your glass baubles next year.... and the plastic bags will stop them getting dusty from the paper.... good, eh??

~~~~~to Maz.... did you have to go into school after?
Right... must go and either work or play... lunchtime is over!!
Love
Daff xxxx
Edit.... ooooh, that was a painful amount, Ann.... I guess having such an awkward lens is what has bumped it up a bit... but not too bad for two pairs.... Ididn't pay as much, but they were from T***o, so think that helped... they were on special offer when I was there. xxxx
Had to take them off for a while as I was getting a headache. but will put them on again later, been here before and I know it takes a while to adjust. We have actually put the shredding in the bin, I searched and it says that shredding is not recyclable only as compost so, as we don't have room in the composter and I think it will soon rot down in landfill I don't feel too guilty. Now, next, anyone have a use for about 30 picture frames of varying sizes? I guess it is going to take several trips to charity shops with those that are re-saleable.
Pleased all was well at surgery anyway Daff, that is why you are feeling well, no worries, all clear!!!
