Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Mar 2019 12:21

Winds strong her too Frank and blowing the rain so double trouble getting about. I have to go and get chicken food this afternoon and a few fitting for the chicken house for the pop hole so I can raise it with a rope.

Frank

Frank Report 14 Mar 2019 14:07

Still blowing a gale here. The poor Fern in the front garden is taking a right old bashing. The sun is also out, and feels very warm through the glass.

How much Chicken feed do you get through Mel,?? It seems you are buying regular supplies. How many birds do you have now. ??

One of the old village friends who emigrated to Canada and does a lot of charity work, is coming back in April. for a holiday. His daughter has put an invite through the door. She is organising a surprise party for him, as he was 70 last month. I will have to check with Ros. before I reply.

I assume everyone is busy doing other things, where as I have nothing to do, but sit and read. !!

Tracy has just picked up Abbie. She has bought us A BIG BAR of Chocolate to say thank you for having her. I should eat it all myself, as I have had her more than Ros.
;-) ;-) ;-). As I don't hardly touch chocolate, Ros ill enjoy it over the next few evenings. If it lasts that long.

Just had a reminder for my EYE TEST. Where do the months go. ??

Frank the last time I bought corn and pellets was 15.2.19 so it lasts me about a month. I lost an old girl the other week so I was down to 8 after buying the new two. Now I have another old girl on the way out I think as she has dropsy. She will live her life out with me and I just hope she will last long enough to enjoy the new chicken house for a few days.

This year I am trying to see how much I spend on their food and bedding stuff and any other things I buy for them to against the money I get for their eggs.

I keep getting the error page so have to click on post date to get to the end of the thread, it can be confusing reading it as everyone is back to front.

I see you have your new mower now Frank, that was nice of Harvey to drop it off for you. That'll be something to look forward to if you go to your friends's 70's. How nice of Tracey to give you a bar of chocolate for having Abbie for her. Hope Ros has had a nice day and the weather wasn't to bad for her. We've had sun all day, it's a bit breezy but not to bad, although it's still quite cold.

Good idea to work out what the difference is between what you buy for your girls and how much you sell their eggs for Mel.

I've just found a family tree for one of my brick walls so I'm going to take a look and see if I have any missing info and of course to add new people if they have them. The tree was on familysearch, so if anyone has any brick walls, it might be worth a look on the site.

Annx Report 14 Mar 2019 16:42

Afternoon All,

Awful wind here all day. It took the car door out of my hand and nearly off it's hinges when we parked at a garden centre!

That was a weird dream Mel. It makes you wonder where these things in your dreams come from! I expect the chickens cost quite a bit to feed etc so you need to check you are charging enough for the eggs from time to time. They are so much nicer than any shop eggs as well.

That was good you got a nice big bar of chocolate for having Abbie Frank, although she is no trouble as you have said. Yes, I suppose we are a bit spoiled for places to eat! There is an Italian and an Indian restaurant in our village and a Miller & Carter Steakhouse 2 minutes away where there used to be a Toby. There are several restaurants next to the Vue cinema half a mile away, including Mexican and a Frankie and Benny's and they are including new restaurants at the extension to the retail park opposite there. The new Everards Brewery being built on an opposite corner is to have a restaurant too and most of the village pubs around serve food as well as do some hotels. Then there's the garden centres! When you think that a Berni Inn was a is good as it got years ago!! lol. :-)

Gill, Our greenhouse is unscathed, but a shed shelters it one side and there is a fence behind it so it doesn't get the full force of any wind. Those clips are so fiddly and hard on your fingers as well.

That's a good idea hiring the scooter for Ros at the NEC Frank. I have thought about doing it, so would be interested to know how she gets on. I thought it would be difficult with one when people pile around a bead stall. My friends are going on Saturday now, so beading is on for tomorrow.

I sorted a bag of shoes for the charity shop this morning and we took them and the other bags there so it has left a nice bit of space in here. Typical, OH had a look at their books and has come away with 2 that were 50p each! This one will give you a flavour of what he reads.....RUBICON, the triumph and tragedy of the Roman Republic.........it's not one I'll be borrowing from him!! lol.The other was less heavy reading about the Roman Road, Watling Street.

Hi. We got here ok stopping with my sister for two hours so we had a good catch up. Not a very nice journey for the first part as wet with a lot of spray but this end is ok, very windy, the sea very rough but dry and a few bright patched. We are in Lee on Solent. :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Mar 2019 18:04

O nice to hear from you and know you arrived safely Annin. I bet you had a good chin wag with your sister.

Back from Holsworthy. Oh told me when I set out that if Dpper Mill was out to come straight home. It was'nt so off I went. Got the food and a few more bits we needed like some big rubber gloves for oh when he sticks the roofing on the house and some throw away brushes to apply the adhesive and a roll of plumbers tape as he is always asking me for that for various things. I also bought another of the solar lights I use when I feed the hedgehogs as they seem to be the right kind to throw light downwards onto the bowls of food. I only hope I get some hogs this year now!! More peanuts for the birds as I had run out.

So I came home about £40 lighter than when I went out.

When I arrived home oh gave me money for F & C tonight so I shall be off soon to get some.

Evening all,

Well i think the wind has been worse today than yesterday, we were all ready to go shopping this morning when the rain just tipped down so we waited for it to ease up ,by the time we went round Tesco's the sun was out ,we then went to get eggs from the farm and DIL wanted a sack of potatoes .

Frank that was a good idea booking Ros a Scooter for the day i expect she will be tired tonight and maybe a few pennies lighter :-D

Oh no Ann your having a clear out and making space and OH is filling it up with his books LOL :-D
I bought a book just a paper back from the table they have in our Tesco's, paper backs 50p and hard backs £1, i see last month it made over £900 for charity
Each month the money goes to a different charity .

Glad you arrived ok AnnG nice to be near the sea ,i bet there's been some big waves with this wind .

It's surprising how all the bits add up Mel but you got what you wanted so that was good ,enjoy your F&C's

Gillx

Gillx Report 14 Mar 2019 19:44

You're lucky Ann with your greenhouse being sheltered, ours is in the middle of the side of the garden so only has the screening on one side, the other three sides are exposed to all the weather. Luckily OH has screwed it to the patio flags otherwise it would probably end up on the other side of the garden lol :-D So you cleared a space now your OH is filling it back up, I really need to go through all my cupboards again but it can wait a bit longer as there isn't that much to do.

Pleased to see you made it to Lee on Solent AnnG and have had a good chat with your sister.

It sounds like you've had a good day in Holsworthy Mel and bought lots of things for your OH, that'll pleased him you got the plumbers tape he's always asking for. OH saw a hedgehog in our garden the other night, so they are around, maybe you'll see some soon, at least you got another light ready for when they come for the food again.

That's a good idea Tesco's selling books for Charity, £900 is a lot of money, they must of sold a awful lot of books that month Mandy. It sounds like you managed to dodge the rain when you went out. We've been really lucky today and had the sun all day, although I've heard we're in for another storm over the weekend which I'm not looking forward to.

Gill I meant to say you can buy a card reader to plug in your laptop. I have one, its just a little box with a gaps for 5 different cards and the plug at the top on a short lead. Its called All in 1 Card Reader. I used it with my wildlife cameras.

Gillx Report 15 Mar 2019 08:24

Morning all

Raining and windy here today

Thanks Mel for letting me know about the card reader.

Nothing planned for today, I need to wash my hair so will run a bath after my cuppa.

What is everyone else up to today?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 15 Mar 2019 09:01

Morning Gill and Annin and all,

Much the same weather as you have here too. Raining and windy same as yesterday.

Had a terrible night. Was still awake at 4.40 and got up for the bathroom and back to bed and still lay there a while tossing and turning then eventually dropped off.

Frank

Frank Report 15 Mar 2019 11:37

Good morning you all,

Weather is terrible here also. Rain and wind. Eos has just mentioned watering her seeds and small seedlings in the greenhouse. It's something you tend forget about when the weather is like this.

Just been watching SKY NEWS. What a terrible thing that has happened in New Zealand. 49 shot dead 20 seriously injured. in shooting in Christchurch.

AnninG, pleased you arrived safe and sound, how long are you away for.?? try to enjoy it, even though the weather might be against you. Does your sister live close to you.??

That's a good Idea MEL, income against outgoings, regarding the Eggs. My problem when I had mine, was that I was forever giving half dozen eggs to friends and neighbours when we had to many to eat ourselves. Silly I know, but I just didn't know how to ask for MONEY for them. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Gill our greenhouse is open to the elements on three sides. It takes a bit of a hammering from the wind, hence we have FIVE panes of glass to replace, I have a box of clips in the shed. So will get round to it myself, if Harvey doesn't come up in daylight.

What a great idea for Tesco to have a table top sale for 2nd hand books, that is a great amount to raise for various charities. They should spread that around their branches., just think how much that could raise throughout the Country.

Ros is having here nails done at 1,30 this afternoon and will do the shopping while out, as she isn't seeing Martine this weekend. She is going to the Caravan to get it ready for them for the better weather. She only works 4 day week now. She hopes to be able to go off, every other weekend, on a Thursday, and come back Sunday Evening.

We are going out for a bite to eat late afternoon. Save me cooking. The local "HUNGY HORSE" does very reasonable priced menu, and a great "OLD SPECKLED HEN" draught beer. loverly. !!!!

I think I mentioned that an old friend SUSAN has Cancer, and is having Chemo. etc. She and Roger (her husband) went out with Tony and Val next door, and Valerie B. (Sids wife) for a meal last week. TONY took an article out of a newspaper about eating habits. He gave it to Susan. When she asked what he had given it to her for, HE SAID. You are the one with CANCER. What a BASTA@D. I think if I had been Roger he would have been picking himself up off the floor. Susan and Roger eat so healthy you wouldn't believe. Where as Tony hardly ever cooks a decent meal for him and Valerie. He comes back from Morrison's on Saturdays, with ONE little carrier bag.

MOAN OVER. but it does get me rilled up, when I hear things like this.

To better things, Ros had an enjoyable day yesterday, and only bought a Scarf and two lots of wool to make more scarves. It seems that most of the women did the same. She was home around 4.15 pm and went out again at 7.00 for choir practice. I was just about to go to bed when she walked in at 9.30 pm.

I slept very well last night from 10.30 wish till 7.00 this morning, but after the night before I think I should.

Gillx

Gillx Report 15 Mar 2019 13:43

Pleased to see you had a good nights sleep last night Frank, unlike me and Mel, I'm shattered now and I suppose Mel isn't feeling on top of the world either. Let's hope we have a better nights sleep tonight Mel ;-) ;-)

Nice to see Ros had a good day yesterday, are the scarfs she's knitting for presents? What a way to speak to someone with Cancer, poor Susan. I suppose he thought he was being helpful and I suppose in a way he was, but to do it that way wasn't very nice. I did smile when you said Harvey would put the glass in your greenhouse if he turns up in daylight, I had visions of him looking like a vampire only going out after sunset LOL ;-) ;-) It's nice that you have someone to help though, he is good to you isn't he.

It's good it's not raining AnnG, are you going out anywhere today?

OH has had to move a bench out of the skip and put it on the floor, the wind is strong here and we didn't want it blowing off onto our fence or car. There's been no workmen next door for a few days so it looks like everyone is putting there rubbish into the skip while there's no one around. I hope it stops soon though as it's already full so anything else that's put in there is likely to be blown out of the skip and will probably end up all over our garden again. I don't think the boss is going to be to pleased when he returns and sees the bench on the other side of the skip on the floor. One of the legs was broken on it otherwise we probably would of had it and give it a lick of paint as we were talking the other day about buying a new bench. At least it's safer where it is now.

Afternoon all,

Bright and very breezy again ,just put the washing on the line but i need to keep an eye on it as i can see it getting blown away in the wind ,we had a little light rain for the first part of the morning but once the sun broke through the ground soon dried out.

Yes Frank it would be good if all the Tesco's could have the book table ,i know they are booked up each month with a different charity right up until September .

I have made a Lasagne for tonight we'll have it with baby potatoes and salad .
