Gill, not seeds for the baskets, tots or very small plants. so far 12 for baskets include surfinias and trailing petunias plus two verbenas they may be for the baskets or may be just for the wall border by the patio, and two training fuschias also may be for baskets or may be for tubs.

still very windy here ut it has stayed dry. OH is or maybe it is was now, watching Gloucester playing rugby on TV.

Gwyn in Kent Report 10 Mar 2019 16:25

Really very wild wind here today, but dry.
I'm not far from Folkestone and have seen fences down and had to dodge round a dislodged tree branch this morning. Further north in Kent, trees are down and a Tesco store lost it's roof.
Dartford Crossing bridge is closed and I would imagine that ferries from Dover might be delayed. .. Not a good day.

I really must get some Fuscias this year.I say it every year. They are such pretty flowers.I noticed the other day that the Periwinkle is flowering :-DI bought the plant last year and it never flowered.
Frank,I have a few Orchids too like Ros and cut them right down when they have finished flowering. 9 times out of 10 they come back lovely.I have a white one which is still flowering big style but the stem is bending over with the weight.I do have a stake to hold the stem but I am so frightened if i muck around with it too much I am going ot snap it.

Gill James is just taking a few days with nothing to think about .Just a bit of time to clear his head. He is helping his friend again today on the new house. He was ripping out the old kitchen .It will do him good just to be doing something physical for a few hours and not to be thinking of his problems.

Thomas has just flown off down the garden with the wind up his tail.He was going a bit loopy in the lounge just now and was starting to climb the curtain :-S :-S.I gave him a flea in his ear and shooed him out.

Just par boiled the potatoes and got the Carrots and Parsnips ready.Nice joint of Beef ready too for the oven .My appetite isnt great at the moment but I really want to enjoy this roast.

Tomorrow I have my appointment with the Orthopaedic Surgeon about my hip. Will see if I need a replacement or not. He will no doubt ask how my walking is. My answer will be I rock and roll but not in the musical sense :-D :-D Have sorted my hairy legs out just in case I need to remove my trousers :-S

Gill I have PM'd you :-)

Afternoon All,

Happy Birthday to Hannah and Jan <3 and yes, it is OH's birthday too so thank you for his birthday wishes! :-D With me having the awful cold and then my sister dying, he said to leave sorting him birthday presents and a meal till after his birthday, but I did get him some shoes he wanted and bought him another book today while we were out. It's The Favourite, which is the book the film we saw recently is based on. He'd also like a new portable radio as his current one is probably over 30 years old!! I think we will go for a meal on Wednesday as he is at Lincoln most of tomorrow and I have a hair appointment Tuesday. We might try the Pesto restaurant not far away, as we have never been to it yet and it has good reports.

Frank I have never got down to setting our boiler timings properly yet and we have had it over 3 years now. :-0

It's been really cold and windy here too and there must have been a downpour in the night as the brook that runs through the centre of the next village was muddy brown and to the top of the banks when we went out. We saw a tree down across some of the road on the way to the Wyevale/now Dobbies Garden centre after lunch.

There are lots of jobs I should be doing but I'm not in the nood today!

Wow!! I looked out the window just now before pulling the curtains in my 'office' and thought, Oh that is good the winds has dropped and no rain. Pulled the curtains and got on with making a card when there was an almighty crash, thunder (and apparently lightening which I didn't see), looked out the front window and there is a blizzard and it is laying!! Golf might be off tomorrow.

And look Mr Weather man, we are supposed to be going to Hampshire next weekend, last year we had to cancel because it snowed!!!! :-( :-( :-(

Jane

Jane Report 10 Mar 2019 17:10

Crikey Gwyn,It certainly sounds rough in your neck of the woods. I'm not suprised the Darford Crossing Bridge is shut. I dont like going over that even when it is not windy.
I think we have got away here with no real damage (or I haven't heard of any ).They do say it is going to be bad again on Wednesday. I am just keeping everything crossed that it calms down when Hannah and Gareth fly home tomorrow . Turbulence and a bumpy landing will be quite a worry .

Ann,is the restaurant you are going to Italian? The name Pesto makes me think it might be :-D I am not surprised that you don't feel up to doing any jobs today. Its been quite a stressful time for you lately .Nothing wrong with doing nothing for a day :-D

OH's radio has done well if it is 30years old !! Does he use it every day? Definitely time for a new one .That will be a lovely present. Chris has several radios dotted around the place. I really want to get rid of the one on my Kitchen windowsill as I am sure he never has that one on and it clutters up the windowsill. He has others in the study ,summerhouse and bedroom !!!. Maybe another in the garage.

I must have missed it being Jans birthday too Frank. So happy birthday to Jan. That is 3 people all on the same day !!!!. Hannah is 36 today ! I can't get my head around that
I think she looks much younger. I remember the day she was born . It was a C Section. The surgeon got her out and held her up for me to see and she did a wee all over his scrubs :-D :-D :-DThats my girl.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Mar 2019 18:13

O yes three birthdays today. Is'nt Mandy's son birthday the same as someone on here too?

We have just had a huge hail shower. It settled on lots of things too for a while. The wind is still blowing and its really not nice out there.

I tried to clean the inside of my windscreen earlier on but with it being so cold out there my breath kept steaming the window up so I gave up and came in and made a drink and a toasted bun.

Years ago I made cards and sold them for our bell fund. I still have a box of them somewhere which I should really dig out and use I suppose.

Going back to our bit of flat roof we looked up all the different kinds of things you can have put on the roof. Its deciding which one to choose. Ours was done before I was with oh so its well over 23 years.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Mar 2019 18:16

Jane when your orcids have finished flowering just cut them back to the next little scale thing on the stem. The new flowers will come from there. Don't cut the old flowering stalk right down unless it goes brown.

Annx

Annx Report 10 Mar 2019 18:59

Your roof's lasted well then Mel. They have better rubberised stuff for them these days I think.

Yes, he uses the radio for a short while most days Jane. As it's a battery one he even takes it in the bathroom when he has a bath and times his bath for some favourite programmes while he has a soak! :-D Chris sounds a bit the same! He also takes it on holiday with us.

Cor, there's been some rough weather around today by the sound of it. We had to smile when we drove to the garden centre. At one point down the lanes there are two really tall trees, one each side of the road and they are favourite nesting places of Crows. Today there were quite a lot of them as is usual this time of the year as they start repairing their nests! Well, the trees were swaying at an alarming rate and the poor birds were like tightrope walkers trying to hang on and keep upright! They weren't managing to do much repairing!

They say a layer of snow keeps bulbs warm Gill, so hopefully they will be alright. I bet Sandra was hoping for much more snow! :-D

Not many animals like the wind up their tails do they? I remember my pony would try and turn sideways.

Oh sorry I don't know where I got seeds from AnnG, your baskets and tubs are going to look very colourful with all those plants you have bought.

It sounds very windy pretty much everywhere today with fences and trees down, I just hope no one was hurt.

We had hail to Mel, it's very cold out there, I hope this weather doesn't last to long and it' warms up again soon, I think we were all spoilt with the weather in February.
Over 23 years that's a long time, you did well with your flat roof. Have you decided on the one you'd like yet?

I had a while when I didn't feel like doing anything Ann, I'm sure you'll get around to everything that needs doing when you feel like it. The snow never amounted to anything in the end, Sandra was disappointed of course. I'm not sure she's going to have her snow this year to be able to build a snowman. The poor Crows trying to sort out their nest in the windy weather, it sounds like they were fighting a losing battle.

I had to smile Jane, when you said Hannah did a little wee on the surgeon, the way you said "That's my girl" it was so funny. :-D :-D Good luck with your appointment tomorrow, hope all goes well for you. I've replied to your PM.

Watching the end of Dancing on Ice the Final and wondering who's going to win, I couldn't choose, they are both very good.

Ann thats just what I wondered when I read Janes post.

We have just seen a tawney owl in our beech tree at the end of the back garden. As we watched it flew into the big laurels so we lost sight of it.

We have also had a very windy day, plus hailstones and a lot of rain but not as rough as in Kent where Gwyn lives. My paternal Grandad was born in Hythe but lived in Folkstone for a while. One of my nephews and his wife are both crew members of the Littlestone,Kent Life Boat so hopefully they won't be called out in this weather

Hope your consultation goes well for you tomorrow Jane.

Happy birthday to Hannah, Jan and Ann's OH hope they all enjoy their day .Hannah certainly doesn't look her age.

I also cooked roast lamb today as there were 6 of us for dinner, I only had the veg.as usual .Ruby enjoyed her share too

Morning all,

Bright and breezy here today ,I have to have my annual review and blood test later ,let's hope this time it doesn't keep bleeding like last time I ended up with it all over the sleeve of my coat .

Belated birthday wishes to all for yesterday i hope they all had a nice day .

That was nice to see the owl Mel ,you'll have to keep an eye out for him again .

Hope you get on ok at your appointment Jane and you don't have to have a new hip.

Morning Mandy, morning all

No rain here today, lots of sun but still quite breezy and not very warm.

Hope all goes well for your annual review and blood test Mandy and it doesn't bleed to much this time.

Good luck to you to Jane with your appointment.

How nice to see an owl Mel, I think they are so graceful when they fly and very quiet to, but I suppose they need to be quiet when looking for food don't they?

Nice and quiet so far today as no workmen have turned up, which makes a nice change for a Monday morning. OH thinks the new concrete floor won't be fully dried yet so they won't be able to do any work in the the new extension. I don't mind what is keeping them away, I'm just enjoying the peace and quiet.

I think I might take another look at my family tree today, I haven't looked at it for a while.
I have lots of brick walls, so it'd be nice if I could break one of them down.

Morning Mandy and all,

Bright and breezy here too this morning. Oh has had a look on the roof and says it does need doing sometime soon but he can't see any bad splits in the felt thats up there but the bit that comes over the edges is very brittle.

Hope you don't bleed this time too much with your blood test Mandy. Make sure you press hard on the cotton wool pad thing when she takes the needle out and hold it there for a little while till she puts the plaster on.

Good luck to Jane and I too hope she dos'nt need a new hip yet.

Washings in and I am hoping its going to dry well today.

We had thunder and lightening last night at 12.20am. It passed quite quickly though so that was good. That may have been why the leccy went out twice if it was around when we had those times when it went out.

Oh has put the green box out this morning but I shall have togo up and get it when I know they have been as it can get windy up there and I have found the box up the road before.

Frank Report 11 Mar 2019 12:03

Good morning to my lovely FRIENDS,

I am just getting over a nasty BUMP on my head. The light cover in the bathroom keeps falling off. It did it this morning while I was in the shower, I wondered what the Bl@@dy hell is was. Anyway when I got dressed I went into the kitchen to get a small step so I could reach up. In doing so I banged my forehead on the kitchen unit. It send me flying and I felt very giddy. I was on my own as Ros had gone out with Caroline. Thank goodness no harm done.

Yes, this wind has been quite bad. It blew a right old gale last night. We thought there would be damage around somewhere in the close, but as yet I haven't heard of any

Hope "OLD HOPPY" our darling Jane, has good news with her hip today They do say people feel great after it's done, so good luck if they decide to replace it. My right knee keeps popping out of joint, as you know, I had the left one replaced, so it might be my right one needs attention.

When we first moved up here in 1964, we rented a cottage in PYTCHLEY a beautiful village between Kettering and Northampton. We had a MAJOR who rode his horse every morning passed our cottage, and he would always pass the time of day. We also had an OWL roosting in a big tree in the garden, every night he/she would hoot away for ages, I expect talking to his mate. What a lovely noise they make. <3 <3 <3

Ros has bought so many plants for the hanging baskets, they are spread out on box's down the side of the bungalow. I must put up her little baskets on the fence that Denis had replace a few weeks ago. She fills them with all manner of plants, that look so beautiful from the kitchen windows.

I hope you are safe and sound, with no damage from the winds. There are bound to be branches of dead trees blown off, just hope it's not onto any cars that might be driving by.

Ros bought me a portable radio many moons ago. It sits on the headboard in the bedroom. I have it on every night before I tuck down. It is company, and I get a lot of snippets of news, around the County, as well as the National News.

The lamb was as tough as old boots yesterday, so we made do with Vegetables and pudding. I have roasted a chicken that Ros bought Saturday, I didn't want that going off like the last one. We will have that warmed up in tin foil tonight with various veg. including a mixture of Sweet Potato and Butternut squash which I have added a parsnip to.

Ros is off the the NEC Birmingham on Thursday with "Stitchery do" the mini-bus leaves the village hall at 9.00 am I expect she will be home around 5.00 pm. Then she will be at Choir Practice at 7.00 pm. So won't see much of her that day.

She is talking about going down to Devon for a few days, to give us a break. I said if the weather is like it is here, we might just as well stay where we are.

Mandy I don't want to hear you have been bleeding all over your cloths again. !!! I hope everything goes to plan.

Anne, I hope you are getting over the horrible cold thing. It does take it out of you. It will be nice to have ANOTHER meal out to celebrate OHs Birthday, even though it's a few days late. ENJOY YOURSELF, won't you. xxx

Well it seems I have been on here for ages, so I am going to love and leave you and get a coffee. Hope you all have a NICE DAY. xxx
