Poor little kitty, hope he learns it is best for him to rest and get well, Maz.

A friend of mine is trying to sell her last kitten from the latest litter on gumtree - it's so cute and I would love it, but really not in a position to have one here and we should go away in three weeks time if I can find suitable accommodation for us, so am stopping myself from mailing her to say I want to see it! It was born at the end of May so growing up fast now, apparently it's mum has rejected it and I think my friend has enough cats already, she took in these two black strays and one was already pregnant but she didn't know, and it seems she hasn't done anything about having either original cat neutered. I dread to think how many litters they have had over the last three years!

It did everything here yesterday, thunderstorms then blustery wind then blue skies and sunshine but got chilly during the evening! The Red Arrows flew over again twice as they had two displays to do and are using Norwich as a base this year. Even if I am asleep the noise they make wakes me and I recognise it is them.

My son texted me to say he is having a great time and the weather isn't too bad in Reading so I am pleased for him, it's his only holiday this summer altho he has lots of time to have off from work, he won't be able to afford to go away anywhere else I don't think unless he sorts a cheap trip away again later on in the year.
Take care all,
am still looking for holiday acc. so my head is in a whirl.

Oh and please giveTaff my love too please, Mammidau

I am glad you sorted things out and are happy about the outcome.
I have been looking at places to stay in Scarboro and Whitby but o.h. thinks it is a bit to far to go

MrDaff Report 29 Aug 2009 10:03

wmsl.... yep, Maz, I know what an MFO box is, lolol!! My hands would be blistered from screwing them together!! Right, as far as Gizmo is concerned, it is going to be virtually impossible to keep him quiet unless he is contained in a carrier, which I would do only as a last resort and if I had a large one like they have for poorly animals at the vets, where you can keep litter tray and food in there as well...

it is natural for a kitten to leap and explore... but his bones should heal very quickly as he is so young. I would keep him quiet by containing him in a room where he doesn't investigate too much... sounds like the kitchen is the place... spend as much time as you can with him, as he will miss your company otherwise... and he is used to being in your room at night with you... so take him there when you go to bed... I am of the opinion that most animals will only do what they can without pain... he will soon stop if it is hurting him. Just make sure he doesn't get into play fights with Tramp... he might get hurt that way. Good luck!

Mamiddau, like everyone else, so pleased you had the outcome you wanted...... good luck with whatever it is..... and give my love to Taff when you see her, and a big huge hug!

Liz, I do hope you find somewhere suitable, soon. I know what you mean about kittens... I have four cats, but I wanted to go and get some of those abandoned ones when I read about them, lol.... R says a definite *no* and as Pol is so elderly now, I don't suppose it would be fair on her. But she has always been sooooo good with any babies we have brought in! *sigh*.

BC....... we will have to start nagging you if you don't grab the bull by the horns, so to speak, lol....... do these big dogs make noise only when the owners are out, or when they are there as well? They might not realise just how much noise they make........ shall I come and sort them for you? I do hope you get it sorted soon, though... there is nothing worse than noisy neighbours except noisy neighbours noisy dogs!!

Ann... one of the problems with your breed of tree is that the more vigorously you give it haircuts, the more vigorously it thanks you by growing, lol.... that is why they coppice and wotsit so well. So sorry to say, you may well have to euthanaise it!! And poison it... I have some somewhere, had to use it on my willow, even though it was diseased!! Good luck!

Well... off to browse the boards and then am going shopping again, lol.... my houseplants need re-potting, and I want to bring in the geraniums for the winter...... plus I also want to take cuttings of the fuschia and jasmine, so need the compost as I am almost out... I shall be putting the daffs into tubs, as well...... and I must look for those bluebells... and get some snowdrops into the woodland corner.....and R needs to mow the lawns.... lots to do!!

Take care all, and have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend... the weather looks as though it might be very good!!

Love

Packets of snowdrop (bulbs,corms?) and all sorts in the Poundshop, I have to resist as we have no more room to put any.
The cyclamen which come out before their leaves have been flowering well so now I know which part of the pot they are in, and will try and dig a few out for you, the others come later on, spring time usually but since the others are early this year, who knows.

Enjoy your potting,

Huia Report 30 Aug 2009 08:15

Maz, I have just looked up my Readers Digest Gardeners Encyclopedia, admittedly for Oz and NZ but most of what is says would apply up there.
Frost to half hardy, grow against a north (south for you) or west facing wall. Requires sun and well drained soil. Propagate by semi ripe cuttings in summer (if you want to try).

I suggest pruning it fairly hard if you transplant it and the prunings can be planted.

It doesnt say whether it likes acid soil or otherwise. I dont think I would plant it in pure compost if that is what you are suggesting, as it might tend to burn it or be too rich. Perhaps you could ask at your local garden centre what conditions they like, or google!

We actually had one growing in a small hole in a concrete wall, not much soil but it did well until it got much too big for the hole and probably depleted all the goodness in the soil. Best of luck anyway.

Huia.

Rosemary grows well in most soils and it would be fine to plant it out now Maz. Give it a good soaking before you lift it from the pot. I think most Rosemarys are hardy in UK.

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 30 Aug 2009 09:41

Morning all!!

Maz, your Rosemary should do well in most soils, but would prefer not to be in an acid soil, and might not thrive so well .... it grows wild in the Med!! It likes to be slightly sheltered, but to get good daylight... not necessarily full sun, but mine is doing well with about 2 hours full sun, then dappled tree shade the rest of the day... pure compost will be too much for it, as they don't need much feeding..... if you can get a bag of topsoil, a couple of pound a time from the garden centre, or nick some from another part of the garden, that will be better for it.

It might take a time for it to get it's feet under the table... they are not all that keen on being moved. Having said that, mine is thriving having been moved a couple of times up til last summer.

You may need to protect it on really frosty days/nights in the winter... I haven't done so with mine, so we must be quite sheltered here, you are that bit further north, so you might need to. I have just taken some cuttings of mine, lol..... we'll see what they are like next year. Good luck!

I am pleased that Gizmo is beginning to settle down again, poor little mite, lol.... they do worry us, don't they?

Hiya Ann, Nope... didn't get it anywhere near done... had my two sisters and my mum visit, so we needed to dash out just quickly, no time to browse.. so we are going today, lol. And they didn't leave until Simon had started, so I missed the start of it!! We shall watch that bit on the re-run tonight, *gets bib out ready to drool* lol I'll pop over and have a look at how you got on in a mo.

Liz, I am not sure where the pound shop is, must find one.... the one corner of the garden is going to be all bulbs and woodland plants. It isn't a very big area, two sort of quarter circles, one of which is currently a leafmold heap... that'll be ready for using as a mulch next year, and then I can plant it up... the other has got some lovely plants in it... but there has been much damage by a tiny little caterpillar.. it has eaten all the salvia, lobelia, campanula and veronica.

Ann, those little violets have been left alone though.... and they have flower buds, so am all excited about those!!

I really want some plants for autumn colour now... this has worked out quite well, as I can see where the gaps are..... oh, and I have got my cyclamen as well, lol... there was one last year, and it has been chopped (accidentally, by R) so I thought I had lost it... but no, it has bravely put up flowers in four separate spots, lol..... it must like it there. Very pretty pale pink.

BC... there, was it as bad as you expected?? Sending you ((((((((((hugs))))))) cos it isn't nice needing to have words with someone.

Mamiddau... does H go back to school next week or the week after? Oh, and did you find yer man? lol.... gt uncle Fred, I mean!

~~~~~~~~ to Huia.... how are you?
Well... must go and peruse the boards, then get ready to go and play in the garden centre, lolol
Is anyone else COLD?
Spread the rest of the gravel (well supervised) and placed a few pots and ornaments (again mainly supervised - well even OH had trouble lifting and carrying the dragon Lol!!) It looks good, lightens up that part of the garden so we are pleased with it. Have been excused any more gardening as I had the monthly accounts to sort.
Daff, sorry, ours in Norwich is Poundland.
Just looked on Storefind and there is one in Commercial St, Newport and others in Cardiff and Swansea, as well as more across Wales so you should be able to get some, lots of lovely bulbs and stuff there and so cheap..... you can buy twice as many lol
