Morning all.... it is chucking it down here, again.... but that seems to be the pattern of things at the moment, it then clears up into a lovely afternoon, so I am not going to grumble... it saves watering the garden tubs and stuff.

Huia, it is great fun, this crafting lark, lol.... I wish I could sing though... I was always told to mime, lol My parents and two of my sisters have lovely singing voices, and the rest of my siblings at least have passable ones... that gene went straight over my head!

Jude, you have been busy, too! Quilt sounds lovely.

Ann, hope all is well at the dentists today....

Well, I am off to get carpet grippers, so I can clear my conscience, make the lounge look tidy, and pop into the Range which is across the road, lolol.

Well, it would be churlish not to, wouldn't it? Seeing as I am so close.

Love

Sunny here at the moment but we will probably get your rain later Daff! Dentist is only a check up, but will probably include a clean and my teeth are soo sensitive. Presumably we still have our young locum as our dentist is still of walk about somewhere. Wonder when that mystery will be solved???

Good luck, anyway... Now.... I really must go and have a shower and get some proper clothes on... jimjams, though comfy, are just not the thing to wear out on a shopping trip, are they??

Aftertnoon Daff and all...for one ghastly moment I thought I had posted on the Artsy Crafty thread...ut that is just because I have no artistic leanings...lol....I took the children back to Ireland on Sunday and came back last night totally exhausted. We had loads of adventures, like the taxi from Shannon driving into horrendous floods and having to try six different routes to get us home...the rain was relentless, it just went on and on! but when we got there, a lovely meal was ready and the wine chilled and ended the night singing every song we could think of and lots of Tequila and Vodka shots....hehehe...but that was when the children were in bed, of course:-)

I didnt get back until late last night so am trying to catch up on the washing and stuff....I shall send you a few photos of the wedding when I get organised.

Hope all is well in all your worlds:-)

I think you probably need a holiday to get over it all now BC. Glad you got them home safely and are now back home.

MrDaff Report 25 Aug 2009 19:35

Hello BC... by now, you should be tucked up on your sofa, your tipple in hand, all relaxed and quietly getting even more relaxed, lolol.... I am going to indulge in a bit of relaxation myself, lol.......... maybe more than one bit..... I have very quickly reached the bottom of the first glass, lol

I have had lunch out with my two sisters, which was unexpected and very pleasant.... I couldn't find the carpet grippers I was looking for...... I'll go on-line in a mo and see if I can find them there.....

R isn't home yet... I do hope he goes into A*** to buy some more relaxant, lol.... he went in to buy me some cut flowers yesterday (I can have them now, you see) but there weren't any there... so he bought some jumbo sized prawns instead...... this fella knows me so well, better than a box of chocolates, that was ;¬)) Anyway..... there was only one glass of the relaxant he bought as well, left, and I have just finished that!!

I have just read that back, and it is English, after a fashion.... but not very clear, lol *waves empty glass around* Blame this!

Hi Daff,

Nice to see you relaxing. It sounds as though you had an enjoyable day out with your sisters. Are your sisters into scrapbooking or family history?

So Daff, how many scrappages have you done so far. I find that some pages come together well and others it's difficult to know where to start.

Enjoy your relaxing evening, Daff!

Best wishes.

MrDaff Report 25 Aug 2009 20:04

Hiya Sallie... I am a complete scrapping novice... I have completed one page... and have all the bits ready for a few more.... but I want to get a bit more practice in before I make a start on some of those, as I want them to be rather special.... they are for my mother. None of my sisters are into family history, scrapping or crafts.. one is a very gifted artist, and has just started to paint again after a gap of many years, and another likes to dabble with embroidery... which my mum is very good at... however, a couple of my nieces are quite interested, so hopefully they will do some as they grow older... they like to mess around with stuff when they come here... I have always kept craft stuff in for visiting youngsters! I shall have to get a scrapbook just for their efforts, I think, so that they know it is being taken seriously.

Right... R is home, bearing gifts, bless him... I am off to play housewife/domestic goddess, lolol

Hello friends :-))

I am back on the mind altering drugs again :-(( so I'll make even less sense than usual :-)) I was given 100 of them so that'll keep me quiet for a while.

Daff.....R only got prawns cos I mentioned them last night...lol

Gosh you have all been so busy, I feel ashamed. I have only been doing my trees.

Went to the dreaded T***** today for fruit, veg and salad, the bill was over £20.00, bearing in mind there are only two if us I reckon we'll have to give up our five a day..lol trouble is I love my veg!!!!! I could eat just a plateful of julienne of carrot, courgette and leek sauteed with cumin and butter every meal...

and...

par boiled cauli, roughly mashed and sauteed with butter and loads of nutmeg...yum

I am just a veg freak really.

Anyway, glad the dentist wasn't as bad as you thought, I must make my appointment soon.

As for you all crafty folks (that doesn't sound right), errr....crafting, I have a mathematical brain (according to the poor woman to tried to hypnotise me) so my artistic endeavours would look like a kindergarten effort.

Off to track down an elusive gt.gt.gt. wotsit.

Huia, I am glad you can get back to the choir sometimes and hope you will enjoy singing the piece you suggested to them, how sad that you might have missed the chance after wanting to do it all this while. Things have a way of working sometimes don't they?

This lot on here make me want to start doing crafty things again, no space here and like you I have too much stuff around already so have to be strict and stop myself beginning anything new. I have a lot to do on family history too if truth be told and I must make more effort to get the jigsaw to fit together better, several bits missing at the mo so I must talk to a cousin in Sussex and pick her brains.

Take care everyone, Daff especially, with all this dashing into shops etc I worry for you with the swine flu thingy lurking in the background. Wouldn't want you to start snuffling like a piglet or even like one of my hedgehogs, aptly named as one of them really snuffles and snorts. The youngest and bravest has been to dine again, it's getting bigger every day so I feel I am doing my bit towards helping it survive the winter hibernation.
Not sure we will be away now, as due to go on 19th Sept and still nothing booked, dopey fell asleep in the chair so yet again we didn't get round to looking for a suitable residence for the holiday. I can see us stuck here or ending up in Heacham after all!

I will not be a happy bunny lol

Love to all

Sue, I think kindergarten effect was what Daff was after so you'd be an asset.

Liz, keep niggling at him, don't let him fall asleep until you have a holiday agreement.

Maz, glad the cats are settled together, makes for an easier life.

Jean, raining here this morning but it was forecast so not surprised.

OH suddenly decided last night that he was finding the garden a bit too much so now we have to have another look at it to see what is actually causing too much work. I have suggested gravelling one bit over but we will see.

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 26 Aug 2009 09:27

Morning all...... my goodness the weather here is dreadful... it would seem we are getting the tail end of that hurricane, it is about to hit us properly in the next hour or so.... I hate the wind, it really spooks me, so I am going to go back to bed, pull the covers over my head and *do a dormouse* as my kids would have called it!!

Ann.... that is a shame, your garden is so beautiful, but that is one of the reasons we had the gravel down.... the beds are so much easier to manage, So I can understand T finding it difficult... maybe gravel the lawn to start off with? I will be having fewer bedding plants next year... and more perennials... ultimately, my intention is that there will be just a bit of annual pruning and cutting back, deadheading, and a deep annual mulch, but everything else taking fairly good care of itself. Well, except for the vegetables... I have a small crop of beans and peas almost ready to harvest, and those carrots in pots will be ready soon, too...

Jean, as I mentioned, it is horrible here, too.... and likely to get worse!

Liz, I hope you manage to find somewhere soon.... our holiday this year was having the garden done... so I have had months of pleasure from it.... and I hope to have months more, as the conservatory looks right out onto it... and all my art and craft stuff, sewing machine and pc etc are in here... I want to get a few winter flowering plants to pop in.,. and yesterday I bought some beautiful daffodils and narcissus... one is a variety called *Sarah Pink* from Homebase... but B & Q had them as well.... they are stunning, pale cream, with the central trumpet bit frilled in pink. I am putting those in pots, some by the front door, and the rest by the back conservatory door. I am really looking forward to seeing them!

I want to get some bluebell bulbs, but I want proper British ones, not the Spanish usurpers, lol so if anyone sees them, please let me know where!! lol

Maz, those cats of yours have really settled well together, so quickly, too.

Sue, it was sooo strange... he walked in just after we spoke, and as I was putting the fish dinner into the oven..... I laughed my head off... it was probably a good thing he did, cos I was on my way around to you armed with knife and fork ready for my prawn dinner, lol

Well.... the wind is picking up.... I am off to make a cuppa, and bury myself under the duvet, lolol

Edit.... found a little card in an old handbag yesterday.... it had the serenity prayer on it... it was actually connected to my name, as the card said that it suited people with the name *Ann* I had forgotten all about it.... so I have written it up and here it is;-

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference. xxxxxxxxx

Morning Daff and all and I have a terrible confession to make this morning....I am still sitting in my dressing gown!!! And breathing very quietly so the dog doesnt wake up"! lol What a lovely deep sleep I had, I feel all my energies coming back but I always feel like that in the morning, then it slowly ebbs towards late afternoon.

Raining here too, but quite lightly at the moment, the patio looks bedraggled and I feel like planting a bit of wild colour to make the summer seem longer! *whispers....remember I planted a Boungainvilea, well it is thriving! Could someone please knit it a wooly coat for the winter:-))

Had better get dressed as am running out of excuses. Off to the park now, have a lovely day everyone. BCXXX

Good day Daff and everyone :O) raining here too, knew I shouldn't have hosed the garden last night but it was so dry!

I love that verse Daff inspirational! I smiled when I read of your kids comments 'do a dormouse'. When our Grandsons were small and slept at ours' we all used to have tea and biscuits in bed on Sunday mornings , they used to say 'can we have a blanket picnic' ahh happy days :O))

Glad you're refreshed now BC........I'll volunteer to knit plant jumpers.....how many sleeves? lol

Have a lovely day folks

I too love that verse Daff.

No it is not the lawn, it is all the pruning which at this time of year is at its worst. I think we have to be really vicious with one of the trees in the garden, which we thought was a small one when we bought it but which has turned into a thug!!!!, the bit I might gravel is the bed around the apple tree which is quite large and mainly full of geraniums (cranesbill) spread from elsewhere and hellebores which can be moved, likewise one iris. He now says he was just tired which made me feel guilty of course because he had done a load of ironing, however I pointed out that the garden could have waited, nobody made him go out there. We'll see. At least he can't get out there today as it is raining, and I have dead headed the pelargoniums out the front so that is not shouting to be done.
