Elizabeth have a safe week and you too take care.

Mandy I watched it too. I liked the acorns as knobs. I just love any kind of acorns. The honey one was lovely and the dog that likes cheese was great.

I meant to watch that and forgot. Started watching Agatha Christie's Marple.

Good morning all. Yesterday T phoned at 0840ish so thought I had better be prepared today. However I suspect the weekend would be different to weekdays so maybe I need not have bothered

4 degrees out there (nearly summer then).dry and bright and a couple of goldfinches on the feeder.

Morning All,

It just looks very dull here. We thought the window cleaner would be here so we needed to be up early but OH suddenly realised with lockdown he wouldn't be coming. He'd sealed his money in an envelope ready as well.

Sorry to hear Colin's SIL has passed away Mandy. I think it's sad when someone reaches a good age then gets taken with something like the virus. RIP Florence. I watched the pottery too and liked the dog and cheese and the bees ones. I thought the roses one had an old fashioned quaintness with the wavy edged dish. Pottery is something I'd love to do. I made a pot on holiday one year, but I think most use electric wheels now which would be easier for me to use. It looks as if you need to be quite strong to knead all that clay!

So sorry to hear your brother is so unwell and in hospital Vera. It sounds like his health is an ongoing worry but at least he has rallied. I hope he will be ok. No wonder you have felt like a zombie.

Well I still haven't ordered a shooting stick. Some don' t give the weight and it must be very light, some are not short enough on the shortest adjustment for a titch like me and I wonder if some will be wide enough for my derriere? I did wonder about a quick fold camp chair with a simple strip of canvas across but most seem quite low.

My foot isn't much better this morning and I read that ice can help so I told OH I could thaw the pack of mince we are having today on it. His face was a picture! Lol. I think I will be trying rolling my foot on an old tennis ball instead if we can find it.

Is the arm any better Mel and have you managed to do your hair?

Yes I wonder if Frank's arm is still sore?

Morning all

I am sorry to hear about Colin’s SIL Mandy. She was a good age but any death in the family is upsetting so I am thinking of you.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts for my brother. Sadly our roller coaster continues. He is worse again this morning and today his daily Covid check has shown positive. As he has been in hospital for 2 weeks now I guess that’s where he picked it up. His partner, who suffers from COPD, now has to self isolate because of being with brother on Saturday night. So brother is very seriously ill in hospital, partner is in isolation and can’t leave home and I am 50 miles away and can’t travel to be of any help. I wonder how much worse it can get.

AnnG, I have kept you and T in my thoughts as well. I know how difficult your life must be at the moment.

Take care everyone and stay safe.

Morning everyone,

I think thats the easiest was to greet you all this morning .

Much warmer here and some brightness too at times.

Mandy its such a shame when an oldy catches the virus and it puts an end to a long life. YOu wonder just how long it would have been without this virus. RIP Florence and give my regards to Colin please.

O Vera sad news of your dear brother too. Sending love and wishes and a gentle ((hug)).

Good morning all,

Cold day here, but no frost or wind. Had a reasonable nights sleep also.

I am pleased to say my arm doesn't feel painful today. I was able to lay on it last night.

My thoughts are with you Mandy. xxx

Pam next door, has given us a No. for a chap to give us a price to cut backache wisteria. It is so large and completely taken over the tops of ours and Pams Garage. It looks lovely when out, but now just a horrible mess.

I hope you are all keeping safe from COVID. Take care and stay safe. xxxx

Mandy sad news about your SiL, as somebody said she was a good age but may have had more years left if she had not contacted the virus. horrid disease And the homes and hospitals still don't seem able to prevent the infection from spreading. Of course as we have been told the latest variant spreads more easily. which is what makes it more frightening and would certainly keep me away from people and shops were I in the habit of going out. On my walk yesterday the lady whose house I drop the charity bags at and who has the free books called out to me. I had to stop and talk as she has been very helpful and kind talking to me about T. I guess we were not 2 metres away although we were not close probably 1.5 metres, I was very aware of the possibility of infection (paranoid??)

And your brother Vera, hospital again, it really should not be possible, I am sure the staff are regularly tested but I suppose it could be somebody just infectious pre-test. I hope he does not have it too badly and that his wife does not develop it. Has she got good neighbours who can shop for her Vera? That would take some of the worry from you.
Thank you for thinking of T and I but don't worry about us, you have enough to concern you at the moment.

Annx do they give the weight of shooting sticks on line?
I did an evening class on pottery in the 70s, enjoyed it and had fun but was not very good at it.
Have you started on any jewellery yet again?

Mel how is your arm today? And yes it is warmer here, I even stayed out in the garden for fifteen minutes and pulled up some weeds. How come after all the frosts the weeds are still growing? It is 7 degrees now. :-)

We had some rain this morning for a while then it turned cloudyier and then after lunch the sun came out for a little while. Its still bloomin cold out there though.

Thanks for asking about my arm and it is a little better but still not 100% as the mucle aches now and then but I can lift it up now for a little while. Still not put my hair up and am dying to wash my hair. Oh won't touch it as he hates long hair and then there's the drying afterwards to contend with too.

I hoovered the kitchen and dining area this morning so are pleased with that. Oh is still washing up for me which is a great help.

Now I am going to corn the chickens and maybe clean the bathroom as it needs it badly as I have seen cobwebs in various places.

Oh Vera i am sorry to read your brother has now tested positive what a worry for you .

Ann i meant to say have you looked at the tripod walking stick seats some of them have adjustable legs so you can have them at the right height for you ,i remember mum used one and it was so handy and they are quite strong .

I see there a corona virus news thing on at half four i wonder if Boris will be on and if there's any change in the rules .

Annx

Annx Report 11 Jan 2021 16:47

So sorry about your brother and his wife Vera. It is such a helpless time for many in an hour of need. It's a shame so many are getting the virus in hospital but I expect with the increase of spread and so many cases there is more risk.

AnnG some of the shooting stick adverts on line do show the weight of the sticks but others don't or just say lightweight which doesn't mean much. I don't think you are paranoid. I thought the earlier advice was at least 2 metres, but signs I've seen seem to just say 2 metres now. With the new variant I will try to be further away if possible once I go out. My theory being the smaller dose you get of it from further away the less ill you might become. I just hope the NHS can cope till rates start to drop with the increase in vaccines. What sort of things did you make in your pottery class to give me some idea? Yes I have sorted what beads to use and have found the pattern so am ready to start now, It looks like being blue and silver.

Mandy I did notice those tripod seats when I was looking and some are lighter than the shooting sticks. I wondered if they might start folding as you moved up a queue though? I'm having another look later. I would love to have had relatives with a farm. I bet Colin enjoyed helping out.

I hope your arm gets better enough to wash and dry your hair soon Mel. It must be getting a bit itchy by now. I have some ibuprofen gel to use on my knees from the doc as it's only the tablets I can't have. I'm trying it on my foot today as that is an inflamed muscle so it might help it. It's good your OH is helping you. Mine has been trotting around fetching everything today. I think he is beginning to realise how much work there is to be done, even to get a meal prepared and cooked. He's watching footie this afternoon.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Jan 2021 18:07

So thats why he has been trotting around then Ann.

I think I will do gammon steak tonight as I hav'nt anything out of the freezer and it need using up. I wonder if I have any pineaple slices?

We had a little watery sun just before it started to get dark but then that fine rain again. Has'nt been so cold tday but a bit of a wind blowing too.

Ann I can’t really remember we didn’t use a wheel most of the time made pots with building up coils of clay as far as I remember. It was a short taster type course. I don’t remember keeping anything.

Annx Report 11 Jan 2021 21:41

Oh I remember using coils of clay to make a pot at junior school now. That brought back a memory! What I would really love would be to design my own wall pots and big garden pots. You would need Popeye's muscles to handle big pieces of clay like that though.

I'm off to bed having done OH's eardrops. They have to be warmed before use. I think the foot is a little better. It feels sore like your calf does when you have a cramp spasm.

I was surprised there were no extra restrictions in the government update today. I was reading about Finland earlier and how their rate of infection is only a tenth of ours. The population is smaller of course, but they acted fast early on and closed the borders of the capital and had the military stop people travelling in and out of the area and spreading the virus.

Night all and hope we sleep well. It's good that Frank's arm soreness didn't last long and I hope Vera's brother is ok.
