Thanks Mel.

Afternoon all,

AnnG, I agree with Mel. The cards are great and, as she says, very professional looking. Your painted stones are fun as well Mel. You are all so clever.

Ann, I know what you mean about wanting to have a big house and do each room in a different style. The fabric I would have liked for my sofa was 17th, or possibly 18th century in style. It would work in our hallway but not in the lounge. Our hall is quite big and I do have some “old-looking” furniture there - a sideboard, a reproduction oak occasional table and a large grandfather clock. I can just see an armchair or small sofa in that fabric in there but who sits in their hall? I really can’t justify spending the money.

When we were in Russia in 2017 we spent a couple of nights in a hotel called Art Hotel. It was a series of small villas each containing two or three suites and each decorated in a different art style. OH asked me what I thought ours was and the best I could come up with was “distressed French empire”. It was a cracking place. I’ve been meaning to write about that holiday before I start forgetting and thought I would do it during lockdown but still haven’t got around to it.

I’m glad you had another good night Frank. I didn’t but hey ho, that’s life. Do you know what the new baby is going to be called yet?

I’ve been quite busy today. I’ve washed all the towels and a couple of bath mats, ironed the two big duvet covers and valance I washed recently, got our lunch as OH was busy and cleaned out the bird bath and the ground feeder. I’ve also turned down an invitation to a birthday lunch. Another of our group of ladies has a birthday this month and has booked a lunch out for 11. We would have 2 tables in our own room but I had to say I was not comfortable with this as I checked yet again and there should only be 2 households meeting indoors and that includes dining out or in a pub. As all 11 of us would be separate households I wasn’t prepared to take the chance.

I’ve just been looking through a Christmas catalogue that was delivered a couple of days ago and came across a good marketing ploy. Instead of advertising chocolate covered ginger call it chocolate-enrobed ginger and you can charge twice as much! Enrobed; whatever next :-D

I ought to be doing garden jobs while it’s dry but after doing all my jobs earlier my back is aching so I think I will just go and lay on the bed with a book. Enjoy what’s left of the day.

Afternoon Vera and thank you made one more card with the snowflakes but couldn't settle to doing it really. did do a how not to do it once so a lesson learned there. anyway gave up. Having one of those fed up grumpy feeling down afternoons. Should be out in the garden as the sun is shining but did some dead heading and planted three viola plants earlier, not the same working out there when OH who is usually so active is moping around indoors. so I came in.

Yes the two households rule is still with us. We actually did break that rule last week!

Love the cards you've made AnnG, they look so professional. It looks like you've got the hang of the machines perfectly. I hope things improve for your OH soon and you start to feel better to.

I love your painted stones Mel, they're really cute. Thanks for letting us know about FG's daughter. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Mr Cheerful, looks very smart Ann :-D :-D Love the pic of the bee, you're right it's wings do look like frosted glass.

I see you had a dip in the hot tub Jane, you and Janice looked very relaxed. It sounds like you had a lovely time if you fancied staying for another week. Hope Thomas was okay when you picked him up and hasn't gone into a sulk with you not being around. Our cats used to be like that, we felt like we were being told off LOL.

Flowers and a meal out sound lovely for Ros's birthday Frank. Maybe you could go to Whipsnade Zoo another time. Pleased to see you've had a couple of good nights sleep.

What awful news about the bones being found Vera, I hope they find out who he is soon, there must be lots of families with missing people worried sick right now. I hope you don't mind but could i have a copy of the tuna quiche please?
Loved the chocolate enrobed ginger comment, very funny.

It sounds like you've been busy in your garden Mandy. I hope the wasps have gone now though.

Such pretty cards AnnG and very expensive looking with the foil effect.

Mel I loved your painted stones and I think children would love the Christmas ones for their rooms. An idea for the fair when it starts again.

Vera the Art Hotel sounds very interesting. I would have wanted to have a nosey around the other rooms! I would have turned down that invitation for the same reason too.

When I went out today I was amazed driving through a few villages how many people were about. At the nearby yarn bomb lots of families looking at it seemed very close together and the tables outside all the pubs were crammed with people. When OH came home, he said he saw fans shaking hands with each other at the footie match!! He sat on his own the other side of the pitch on a high bank, but he said they had to keep telling people over the tannoy to move further apart.

No newspaper for OH today because of the Extinct Rebellion people's actions. It is annoying as it's prepaid so I bet they don't think/care who they are hurting. They won't get people behind them acting like this.

Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.

AnninGlos Report 6 Sep 2020 10:53

Weather is ok just depressingly miserable in the house. I so wish OH could get his health problems sorted. He had (he says) a very bad night last night and is not long up. (He ended up in the spare bed). He was never stoical when ill but oh my he excels himself this time. Supposed to be flu jabs this afternoon I guess it will just be me. :-(

And I had a bad night as well.

Annx Report 6 Sep 2020 11:04

Morning All,

Lovely sunshine here Mel and bedding is pegged out. We often get your weather half a day later so I hope it doesn't rain here till much later.

Your poor OH AnnG. He must feel shattered with all these bad nights and pain. I know he's tried most things, but does a warm bath help or one of those heat patches or a hot water bottle?

Better start on lunch now. I feel like i'm obsessed with the food routine now. No sooner one meal sorted and the next is upon you and then having to think about the next day and any defrosting needing to be done. :-S What happened to the extra free time I hoped to have at the start of the pandemic. Chicken and ham pie today with various veg to make up our 5 a day. I managed to get brussel sprouts with our last order. BBL

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Sep 2020 11:18

I hav'nt had a brusslel sprout for ages. I like them with lamb.

Its just started raining again here so the sun did'nt last long and I was just going out in the garden.

I know what you mean about meals Ann. All I seem to do is the shopping lists and arrange meals and then there's the washing up and no time for playing.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Sep 2020 11:21

Annx yes and he has never done lack of sleep well. The last time he had a warm bath he couldn't get out of it without my help so only has showers these days. And nothing I suggest suits today so I am staying up here out of the way. At least when we were at daughter's i had somebody to talk to. and it is not that I am not sympathetic I have been and am but can't see the end to it or the doctor's answer that it will clear up on its own.

Gillx Report 6 Sep 2020 11:56

Morning all

Bright and sunny here, all the gardening's done so I thought I'd catch up with a few programmes so I can clear the Sky planner ready to record the F1 race later for OH as he's in work all day today.

Thanks Vera for the Quiche recipe, I've replied to your email. I have a few tins of tuna and was looking for something different to do with them. Thank you. I think it's wise to turn down the birthday invitation, 11 different households is a bit risky, better to be safe than sorry.

Sorry you have the rain Mel, I hope it brightens up soon for you.

Your post came through three times AnnG. Sorry to hear you and your OH had bad nights, I hope you both have better ones tonight and your OH feels better soon. I know how you feel, I was the same when OH had months of toothache and abscess's I did what I could to help, but after a while I ran out of ideas and he was in a foul mood. Thankfully he's okay now. I didn't realise you could have a flu jab on a Sunday, hopefully it won't be to busy and you'll soon be home.

Rains gone now Gill and he suns out again. We are watching the race. :-D :-D

Gillx

Gillx Report 6 Sep 2020 14:38

That's okay AnnG, I thought I was seeing double, or should I say triple lol. :-D :-D :-D

Have you had your flu jab, hope your arm isn't to sore if you have and you're feeling a little brighter now. Sending a gentle (((hug)))

Gillx

Gillx Report 6 Sep 2020 14:42

We posted at the same time Mel. I'm watching the race highlights later with OH, he's in work till 8pm so I'm going to record it. Monza is our favourite track, probably because it was the only one we could do on the Playstation years ago LOL. :-D :-D

You'll be able to get into your garden after the race if the sun stays around and if it's not to wet from all the rain. It's starting to cloud over here now, so maybe you given us the rain.
At least it'll save me watering all my pot plants later. ;-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Sep 2020 15:33

Had our flu jabs this afternoon. appointment was for 3.10, in at 3.05 and out by 3.15 both done, including the Dr checking OH's blood test to make sure it was ok for him to have the jab. So efficient and I believe they have to organise about 30000 jabs. they have a huge area to cover so flu jab clinics are this weekend and next weekend.

edit to say blood test showed no sign of any infection. Also showed the doctor he saw last week has scheduled to check the blood test results tomorrow.

SuffolkVera Report 6 Sep 2020 16:09

Not a bad day here; it's quite warm with alternating sunny spells and grey skies but no sign of rain yet.

We met our friends, just one couple, and went for a stroll along the river where we watched the rowing club practicing with their trainer and then stopped for a drink at a table outside a pub. We got back here about 1.45 and had a sandwich. Then I decided I wasn't in the mood for cooking a full Sunday dinner tonight so I've taken some home made soup from the freezer and we'll have that, followed by a small salad. OH might be a bit surprised that he doesn't get the dinner he is expecting but he can have his roast tomorrow.

I can't stop yawning at the moment and I only had a half of shandy, honest ;-) I bet when I go back downstairs OH will be asleep. He was in the conservatory, the sun was shining straight in and he had 2 pints when we were out so there's no way he'll keep his eyes open.

I'm sorry you're feeling a bit down AnnG. It is difficult when your partner is unwell because you are on edge all the time wondering if they are OK and only half sleeping because one ear is listening for them all the time. It's no wonder you are feeling tense and grumpy. I know the doctor said to go back in a fortnight if OH wasn't better but I wonder if it is worth ringing anyway to tell him there's not much sign of improvement. I hope for both your sakes that T. starts to feel better soon.
Did you get your flu jab? I've looked at our doctors' website and there is nothing on there about this year's injections. Usually they do them on a Saturday in September with an "overflow" Saturday in October. Last year I couldn't make either Saturday so I got mine at the chemist where we get our scripts so I might see what they are doing this year. (EDIT: I see you have had your jabs. It sounds as though they have a good system there)

I've been told the bones in the river are from a muscular man and may only be a couple of months old, but I don't know how true that is or whether it is just another rumour.

I'm not sure what to do with the rest of the day. I don't really feel like doing anything very much. I'm not feeling down, just very lethargic. Well, I had better go and find something to do, I can't just sit here all afternoon.
