Island Report 7 Aug 2020 12:39

Thanks Ann :-D

I'm always having trouble with the internet. Constantly being disconnected. It's quick enough to get connected again but it is so annoying - especially those childish 'oops' messages

Island, I think I hate you :-D. You’re another talented one. Where crafts are concerned I’m definitely the dunce in the corner on this thread.

I love the bunting. It’s colourful and fun

Vera I slept well last night it was not at all sticky but I think you have the really hot weather your side of the country, it is 26 degrees here but pleasant, the sun was not out much all morning but it is out now. we have been staying indoors. Your drive sounds lovely.

My OH is not s go for a drive person, he drives to a destination.

SuffolkVera Report 7 Aug 2020 14:28

Glad you had a good night AnnG. At the moment it’s about 32 degs here, full sun and not a hint of a breeze. According to the lunchtime weather on TV it’ll probably still be about 26 at 11 pm tonight.

No, we don’t often just go for a drive but we have done it a couple of times in the last few weeks. It’s a way of getting out of the house without mixing with many people and today it was just too hot for doing anything else. The coolest place to be was in the car :-)

Afternoon all,

Phew its hot here ,we were sitting out but now its the hottest part of the day we're all in including Max who's laid out in front of the fan .

Oh Gill that was a quick visit from Sandra ,she was a bit naughty making her dad pick her up just so she could visit you all ,you won't get caught out like that again if she says she wants to come home .

Vera sorry to read about your daughter having that accident thank goodness she wasn't hurt ,he wants locking up ,i hope she's got over the shock and you too hearing news like that .

AnnG the that was a very good attempt with your first painting much better than i could do ,keep it up .

Nice to see Jane popping in and i hope your beginning to feel a little better although i know you don't like the heat so try and stay cool, get those feet in the paddling pool ,that was nice of Hannah doing some cooking to give Chris a day off

Ann what a shame you didn't get to the garden centre yesterday that sounded like there was a bargain to be had ,was it just one day they were doing it ?

Frank do you think you should see the doctor and tell him about this headache you have ,you've been like that for a few days now and a bit of a worry after having the fall you had .
What a lovely parcel from Conrad ,its lovely getting some thing as a surprise .

Mel how is the sun flower painting coming along ,i should think its to hot to do any today .

Island i love the bunting you've made ,so bright and colourful it adds some nice colour to the garden ,thanks for letting us see it and thanks Mel for passing it on .

Not a lot been happening here ,like Vera we had a little drive out ,we noticed most of the fields are now cut and baled and some even ploughed up already ,one field we couldn't make out what was ,it was purple ,we think it was a field of thistles ,there was also several fields of sweetcorn .

I've made another lot of Runner bean pickle but haven't done any more piccalilli as i need more vinegar .

AnninGlos Report 7 Aug 2020 14:57

The rose garland is very attractive Mandy I am sure the girls would love it.
Thanks for the comments re my painting. You are so good at craft I am sure you could do as well.

Vera the trouble with going for a drive here is it would not be pleasant until we have driven for about half an hour.

Gillx Report 7 Aug 2020 17:19

Love all the pics, you are all very talented.

Mel I've replied to your PM,

I'm helping OH with the car at the moment, the alarm keeps going off and the bonnet's jammed. He was going to disconnect the battery but can't do anything until he can unjam the bonnet, even the garage couldn't unjam it. If the alarm keeps going off it'll annoy the neighbours, especially if it keeps going off all night, plus the auto electrician we've booked for Monday won't be able to fix the alarm if the bonnet won't open.

I'm okay now, so please don't worry, we're more concerned about the car at the moment, as OH needs it for work in the morning.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Aug 2020 17:35

Pleased to see you are ok Gill, well except for the jammed bonnet, is it the latch of the bonnet that has jammed? Have you sprayed with WD40 if it is?

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 7 Aug 2020 19:25

Oh dear Gill I hope he can get it sorted, I wonder what's made it jam up and why the garage couldn't do it for you .

Just had a good water round and now sitting in the garden with a drink trying to cool off ,I think we're in for a very very hot night .

Evening All,

Slept like a log last night and woke at 8.45am. We quickly showered and got ready and dropped our prescriptions off at the surgery. It is at the back of the car park and as we tootled out along the middle road to the exit a woman in a Porsche drove from our left almost into us. She never even looked our way at all and was oblivious that she had nearly caused an accident! :-S We carried on then to the out in the sticks garden centre and donned our masks and walked through to the outside. There were only a few people there but I couldn't find any small azaleas or rock plants that I wanted and the 'offer' plants looked half dead so we didn't bother with any. I did get one of those cobwebby looking green houseleeks though which was different to my others and we stocked up on plant feed as well. We did call at another garden centre the other side of our village but now they have opened their cafe there were children racing about so we drove in and out again. I think we need to go there as soon as they open and before the cafe opens. When we got home there was a note to say a parcel was behind our wheelie bin at the side. When I looked at my emails, not only was there an email saying the same, there was a photo of it behind the wheelie bin too!!

We ate lunch outside, new pots, our first lot of runners, carrot , leek, courgette and fish with a cheesy sauce and have wilted and flopped around since as it is so hot. Hubby had a headache so fell asleep!

i watched Dick and Angel Mel! I wasn't too keen on the bedroom although the young girl loved it. I thought the macrame seat was good and I did like the drinks trolley when it was painted black, also the bathroom last week. They've made a lot of progress with the kitchen garden which looks good now.

Mandy your flower garland is really pretty and I think the girls would love it in their bedroom! :-D

I like your cheery bunting too Island and thought it would also look good along the edge of a table parasol. :-)

Well I opened up my first watercolour pad and there is a black mark across the page I opened and it is in the paper itself!!

I see the hordes have been out on the beaches again. Why don't they close them between certain hours for a few weeks. These people obviously don't give a toss about getting the virus and spreading it!

Island Report 7 Aug 2020 19:43

Evening all
I would say 'phew what a scorcher' but I've been indoors all day as I found it so oppressive outside. The dog was pleased to have company :-D

Vera, I bet there's lots your good at which I'd be rubbish doing. Thank you anyway, much appreciated :-D

AnnG, I do like your painting style. I know you said you dont stitch but it would make a great textile or collage.

Love the garland Mandy! What size are the roses? I'd wear it as a necklace :-D

I hope I haven't missed anyone elses art/craft.

It's cooler here now but I've just seen cars go by from the woody lane with lights on - oo-err, omenous?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Aug 2020 19:59

Thanks Island. Yes I can see it would make a good collage I have done collages in the past but stuck not stitched. Long time ago now.used to make Magic Roundabout collages for kids.

I made a Zebedee for my son when he was small. His head was a ping pong ball and I did his jacket in felt and one of the springs out of a roller for his boing.

Nice and cool outside now but still very warm indoors and we have the fan on.

Gillx

Gillx Report 7 Aug 2020 22:34

Just a quick update on the car. The alarm seems to have sorted itself out and is no longer going off all the time. Apparently OH needed to press the key fob twice not once as he'd been doing when he locks the car. Still have a problem with the bonnet though, the garage tried but it's definately jammed somewhere, so it's back to square one. He can't spray WD40 on it as it's in a tight spot of the car which he can't get to. He's got a friend who's a mechanic so he's going to ring him to see if he can come and take a look, but I don't hold out any hope of it being fixed as we've had other advice to off a mechanic and nothing seems to be working. The only other thing is to take some of the car away so access can be made to the cable but I'm not sure if that's possible or even how much that would cost if it was possible.

At least for now the battery won't die and OH can still use the car for work, which is the main thing.

AnninGlos Report 8 Aug 2020 10:06

Good morning all, another lovely day out there. Just a trip to the local shop for the paper today I think.

Gill pleased the alarm was sorted. But is it a new to you car? Or have you always had trouble with the alarm? Anyway hope other half was able to get to work ok.
Was this a job from one of the interviews he went to? I had not realised he was changing jobs as I thought he’d had his shifts extended where he was. Has he got to work a probation period with this one now? Good luck to him with it though.

Mel Zebecee sounded fun.
