Gosh 60 years ago Vera! talk about memory lane!! apart from M, we read Guy Mannering, The Tempest, Midsummer nights dream, which my parents took me to in Oxford, (not Judy Dench though, lucky you!) 3 Chaucers, not saucy ones!! and Paradise Lost and Found! +I did history, and Divinity(!) which actually I found very interesting and difficult much to my surprise! O'levels were a doddle by comparison!
It's pretty cloudy here now but still dry and warm particularly in the house. Abby got he bath and thoroughly enjoyed herself. Daughter rang and had a long chat about this and that. They hope to get down to see us next week as we're all a bit worried , (again !) that we shall get caught up in more lockdown! Son and family are here tomorrow which should be ok!
Must get supper, smoked trout, salad and new potatoes! sadly, inside tonight. Booo!!! :-(

Morning all
What a hot, sticky night! The fan just seemed to be moving the hot air around. I expect several of you had a sleepless night like me.

I haven’t got any plans for today so I’ll just potter along and see how the mood takes me. Enjoy your day whatever you are doing.

EDIT. Just realised it’s August already, nearly two thirds of the year gone. It seems to be galloping away in spite of everything slowing down because of the virus

Morning Vera and all,,

Yes a pinch and a punch for the first of the month and where did the rest of the year go?

Only a little trip up the shop for a few bits today and egg delivery to next door and then the rest of the day is mine.

Its bright this mornng with some sun but darkish grey clouds going over too if you know what I mean.

Slept well and only got up once for the loo.

Food morning you all,

What a surprise we had last night. As you know Lewis called in on his way to Sheffield to his mates. Well at 8.45 we had a call from him so say, he had arrived, and managed to get on the WEB SITE for his Exam results. He had me in tears of PRIDE, as he told me he has got a BA with honours. Together with other excellent pass's. I could' be more pleased if someone had handed me a MILLION POUNDS.

I slept well last night, even though it was so hot and humid.I am all showered and in shorts. I had aCOT and decided I would get the lawns done. WRONG as I opened the conservatory door, I felt the drops of rain. As we all know Electric and water don't mix, so will hopefully be able to do them later.

Like most, I have no plans for today, apart from PARADING AROUND FULL OF PRIDE, for LEWIS Of all the number of children in the family from brothers and sister, nieces and nephews, and their children. He is the first mohave ever achieved anything like this. I must let Simon know as I know he will want to congratulate him.

That shower cloud looks like it's going over, so I will be able to get out there soon and do the lawns. I HOPE.

FG That tea sounded right up my street. I can eat fish anytime of the week. Most weeks Ros will bring me Smoked Salmon or Smoked Mackerel . with Prawns and Mussels. I sit and eat some of those, while watching a bit of T.V. in the evening.

Have a NICE DAY as our cousins across the POND would say. lol lol See you later, and stay safe. xxxx

Very quickly, as family will be arriving late morning and we MUST hang those curtains!!! just to say many congratulations to your Grandson Frank! I can certainly understand your pride in him! Has he got his sights on a career, or his he hedging his bets for a while?! Our Grandaughter has just finished her first year at University where she's studying for a degree in Physiotherapy, another Gd is at sixth form college doing A'levels with a view to studying medicine. The eldest GS is teaching, the youngest, still at school. Like you we are extremely proud of them!
Cloudy old day here but still warm. Once again many congratulations to Lewis.

Congratulations and very well done to Lewis :-D :-D. You are right to be proud of him Frank. I understand exactly how you feel as we were celebrating our granddaughter getting her degree just a week or two ago. If you’re like me you’ll want to tell everyone you know. You boast as much as you like, he’s done really well.

Sadly it’s not a good time for new graduates to find jobs. I hope Lewis finds work that he wants. Our granddaughter is working at the moment with a Theatre in Education group but the work is spasmodic and only gives her a bit of money from time to time so she will need to find some other work to keep body and soul together.

O Frank what wonderful news and congratulations to your lovely clever grandson. He's worked really hard so he really deserved this. What a nice lad. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
I can see the grin on your face from here!! <3

Good morning all.

Frank Wow! Well done Lewis congratulations to him on that achievement. Of cours you are proud of him. Lovely to see the young doing well despite all the gloom around at the moment.

A slightly grey day here today, we could do with a shower as the garden is wilting after the heat yesterday (let alone us). We have dead headed this morning and will water later if it doesn't rain.
We just nipped round for a paper but have no other plans for today. I didn't sleep too well last night it was very sticky. OH managed to sleep though and has no ill effects from his problem yesterday. He can't really make out why he suffered yet had water with him while the two he played with had nothing to drink all the way round yet didn't suffer at all. Must maybe be his age as he is a bit older than them. He is fine today anyway but he was the reason I couldn't sleep as I pictured other scenarios that it so easily could have been.

AnninGlos Report 1 Aug 2020 17:04

Funny, I just asked you on email if you are going to make a crumble, I had not read your post then Mel.

Anyone else going to be sitting through football until 8pm. Or maybe some of you enjoy it!! :-D

Family just gone after a lovely day. Daughter next week - we are feeling popular!!
Good lord NO AnnG! No football in this house! (or soaps!) In fact sport in general is a big NO NO! We mainly watch wild life, railway journeys, documentaries, things like that. Luckily we both have roughly the same taste,so rarely clash over what to watch!
Abby is exhausted after her miniature Dachshund friend Eric has gone home! He is very small but lively! He's just two years old so still quite a youngster!

Congratulations to Lewis Frank, he's worked so hard and now it's paid off for him.

OH and I are watching the match AnnG, OH supports Arsenal so we're hoping they win. Bit of an iffy start but at half time it's 1-1 Just about to watch the second half now.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 1 Aug 2020 18:45

I am in the room but not really watching. During the week we watch different TVs but Saturdays we watch together and Sundays too. I am reading the local paper and getting the meal. I did feel that poor fellow’s pain then though.
FGI don’t watch any sport OH watches most but especially rugby and football oh and cricket. I do watch soaps and enjoy the excellent acting of modern soaps.

flappergirl

flappergirl Report 1 Aug 2020 19:29

Tbh AnnG, we don't know anything about any of it as we don't even watch sport on the news! we either turn the sound off or turn onto something else! I guess it's just what interests you! We do have a tv in the bedroom! and as we tend to go to bed quite early, anything we want to watch which goes on a bit, we sit up and watch in bed like Darby and Joan, except that MrFg usually goes off to sleep!!

Annx

Annx Report 1 Aug 2020 19:36

Evening All,

A much fresher day today thank goodness, although I was still awake at 4.00am, so have been half awake today.

OH is watching the footie in the bedroom. We haven't had the lounge tv fixed yet so no SKY there at the moment! It's been lovely without all the droning commentaries and other sports during lockdown as I'm the opposite of 'fan'. I will watch things like badminton (I used to play a lot) and dressage and the tennis final, but there is a massive overload of footie and cricket on tv as far as I'm concerned. There have been rumblings from OH about some footie starting next month and assurances that social distancing isn't an issue at the little attended games he goes to these days, but he's been warned he could be getting fumigated on his return with the new steamer I've ordered and that the shed would be a good isolation place!

Well done to young Lewis Frank! I think he will go far as he is hardworking and seems to have a level head and willingness to be helpful where he can. I'm glad the govt isn't funding some of the uni degrees anymore though as some would lead to very few job opportunities at the end and, as Vera says it will be harder anyway now with the effects of the current situation.

It sounds like Abby enjoyed playing with Eric FG, even if he was a bit 'full on'. lol.

Mel I finally made an apple crumble today and hubby was back for seconds so it was very okay. I used sweetener in the apple and the custard, also dried milk as we had to throw some milk away after the heat yesterday. Delivery is tomorrow so we will be ok. I bet Bob looks very smart with his red pockets . We keep seeing a little Wren in the garden. It keeps carrying food off so must have a nest somewhere near. They never seem to stay still long enough to get a photo!

I've washed the towels, duvet and cover and OH ironed the cover and did a bit of hoovering to get the worst up. I also decided to chuck out a couple of pairs of shoes, some magazines and took down my birthday cards which have been up over 2 weeks! OH wanted to leave them up then as he said they cheer him up!
The new shredder is now in place and we already have a pile of paper waiting for it once we have read the instructions. I couldn't believe it shreds CDs and paperclips!
I've gone very hot again now OH has shut all the doors and some windows. An early night for me I think. I hope the duvet is dry?? :-S

About ten mins ago I went outside for a ciggy and was looking to the north at the north star and I saw a shooting star which was very bright just drop down out of the sky.

Oh dos'nt like football but we do watch the motor racing and sometimes he will watch rugby but not for long than goodness. I don't like sport only to watch the dressage and some jumping. He does watch the olympics when they are on but it dos'nt really interest me only the horse jumping. We don't watch any on the evening soaps just Doctors at lunchtime which is'nt on at the mo. Oh thinks they may not bring it back after all this infection thts about. Jane watche d Doctors too.

So now I am off to bed in a mo. Hope you all get some good rest tonight and see you all inthe morning.

Night night.

I have had a nice tidy up of the hosta this afternoon and cut down some docks that were coming up in the paving around the ponds. Then some of the poppy seed heads came off but I must save some for Gill. Lots looked a bit battered by the rain but there are some more nice fresh ones coming along. They are still flowering.

I also recued another heuchera and have all the stems soaking in water as last year before the winter I had one drop on me and left it in water right over the winter and potted them in the spring and they are lovely now. I need the big trailer round the back to cut down the rampant rose and get it ready for next year as its a bit out of hand.

Oh has been painting again today on the workshop wall so we have more sunflowers and two bees and a dragonfly. Its keeping him quiet and thats the main thing.
