My back is a bit better still fragile but better than it was. Yes it was lovely watching her do her lessons. Mum and Dad make it fun for her, as our other grandson and his wife make it fun for the boys. Today theirs was maths with Star Wars that looked like fun too.

Gill I hope your headache gets better soon. You seem to be starting to get more again, I wonder if your eyes need testing. When we can get out again of course.

Annx so you have got some gardening done today. Yes I like dahlias but oh likes the very big saucer sized ones and I like the smaller ones. The colours are beautiful.

Your sky sounds lovely AnnG.

I've been thinking of Jane to, hope she's not got her dizzy spells back again, I know how much she dislikes them. Sending you a hug Jane <3 <3

Yes, I'll be doing the clapping again Mandy, it's nice they are thinking of all the key workers now and not just the NHS, although everyone deserves the clapping, putting their own lives at risks to help other's.

We have problems with flying ants in our kitchen every year, we have a really good spray that works, but they come from under the fridge and freezer so we have to pull them out to kill the ants, I hope it doesn't happen on a day OH is working or I'll have to manage on my own this year. It only happens when it's really hot though, so if it's a cooler summer we may get away with it. I know what you mean Mandy about standing on a mound of them and you only notice when they spread out and crawl all over your feet......yuk

Yes, I noticed it was going to be nice on Sunday, which is a pity as OH is working that day, I think he has Monday off and it's the only day next week with forecast for rain, so he won't be able to sit out and enjoy the garden and fresh air.

Just watching Garden Rescue, I think it's a repeat, although I could be wrong. I do miss the soaps, but have managed to catch up with a few recordings so it's not all bad.

Did you manage to watch Bohemian Rhapsody in the end Ann? Was it you that wanted to watch it, or have I got the wrong person? Sorry if I have :-S :-S

Gillx Report 2 Apr 2020 20:12

Just been clapping and cheering again, I heard it all build up like last week and it was still as emotional. OH has just got in half an hour earlier than usual, apparently his boss said to all the day staff to change out of their uniforms early so they could be outside at 8pm, how lovely was that. He normally finishes at 8pm, so this week he was out with all the other day staff in time to hear all the clapping and cheering, they were still clapping here when he came home so he waved to everyone in the street.

Going to run him a bath now and make him something to eat.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Apr 2020 20:31

There were not as many out tonight in our area but were apparently in the rest of the village Gill. It was not me that wanted to see Bohemian Rhapsody it was possibly Annx.

Annx Report 2 Apr 2020 20:43

The ants here seem to like to be under a rock or slab and in a nice sunny spot and we have plenty of both. I have them in the greenhouse too and they swarm out when you step on the slabs. I went through all my old seed packets in the wheely seat this afternoon and have thrown out nearly all of them as there were dates going back to 2007! I've kept some old sweet peas to give a try though and some old runners which I can plant tomorrow. Hubby is even talking about getting the bean poles up.

Vera you must be relieved to know the position with the couple in Spain. Although they are stuck at the moment at least they are ok. We need to make a start on cleaning our slabs too. I bet yours look a lot better now. Good luck on getting a Tesco slot! It's a real headache now.

AnnG I have to sit on my computer chair when my back is bad as It helps me get up if it's a higher chair.

We've still not watch Bohemian Rhapsody yet Gill, too busy watching other shorter programmes.

We have an early start tomorrow as we need to be at the pharmacy to hopefully collect the rest of our prescriptions. I think I saw somewhere today that GPs are going to issue 2 months medication instead of 1 months.

Yes it seems as if Jane may not be too chipper again at the moment. Hopefully she will be back soon. I hope Fitz's wife is ok.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Apr 2020 22:08

Thats really good news you have hard about your cousin Vera. Its so good to know they are both alright. It must have put your mind at rest.

Hope the head feels better soon Gill. Now not too much screen watching as that won't help.

As to your questions about our oil, no it has'nt arrived yet and on the website it said delivery out for today. It did'nt come but we did get a phone call in the afternoon to say it would be here tomorrow.

WE had a beautiful sunset tonight and I was cooking at the time and thought I would go out and take a pic but when I went out again it had gone and the sky was all grey again. When I first saw it in the west it lit up all the sparse clouds and they were all pale pink. Over the wall to the west of the garden it was deep red so I am hoping tomorrow is going to be a lovely day.

Not sure if I said before but oh laughed at the bin bags going up the road on their own.

I do hope Jane is ok and that Fitz wife is getting better now. Hope Fitz dos'nt get it as well. Sending love to both <3 <3 .

It dos'nt really feel any different for us as we are mostly home together. I hope you lot are all ok and not getting fed up with not going out and about.

I read some of the posts on General Chat today and had a laugh. Most people on there seem to be in high spirits. Its good we all come on here and chat to each other and our friends.

Hope you all have a better nights sleep tonight and those seeking slots get them.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Apr 2020 22:27

I had'nt read the posts on this page!!

How nice to be let off early from work so he could hear the clapping Gill. Lovely too that he waved to everyone.

As to ant or flying emmits they usually come around in July. They seem to love my car roof and the birds have a field day eating them. I did notice a patch of grass by oh's pond on the edge of the paving slabs that a pheasent was pecking around in and when I swept there today there were ants there so tomorrow I am gong to put some boiling water there as I can't use anything in the way of killer incase it gets in the pond.

I am slotted :-).

I logged in on both the desktop and the iPad at 11.50 pm to find I was already in a queue and had to stare at the screen refreshing itself for nearly 30 mins but quick and easy once I got through. So I now have a delivery this coming Monday and one on 23rd. I am a much happier bunny now :-D

Now going to bed with my book. Night, night

Morning all,

I'm so pleased you have two slots now Vera and I hope too you had a better nights sleep without the worry of finding a slot.

Today is dry and quite bright but there are clouds in the sky out the front to the north which are greyish. Out the back there are some blue patches and sunshine.

Oh is out on the mower till he gets cold and has to come in.

Must email my small order for tomorrow or I shall get told off from Keith.

Oh Vera that's good you managed to get a couple of slots ,who would have thought getting shopping slots would get you so excited :-D :-D but seriously it must have put your mind at rest knowing you don't have to go out to shop if you were getting low on things .

Frank Report 3 Apr 2020 11:29

Good morning to you all,

I am full of aches and pains, and coughing and sneezing like a good un. I haven't been out or mixed with anyone, so can only put it down to the start of a cold.

Ros has been very bust making these FACE MASKS, and knitting for Jammies little baby.

We had a delivery from Sainsbury last night. mainly everyday things that Harvey thought we would want. PLUS THREE CASES OF FOSTERS. So I won't go short.
I have made a note of what we owe him for the cooker elements and the shopping, and if anything else turns up, that we be added. I will square up with him for everything at the end.

I did use Tesco on line. in that bad winter. a few years ago. I wonder if I am still registered with them. Might be worth checking, then I could do an order on line, while this CoronaVirus is still around.

Ros had a lot of PLUG PLANTS delivered yesterday evening, so she is down the greenhouse potting them on. She did a pack of runner beans yesterday and other veg seeds. I just don't know where she gets her get up and go. When I FIND MINE HAS GONE.

We are having DUCK BREASTS tonight. I am going on line to see how to prepare a meal with it. It is something I have never cooked. I know you score the fat and cook it in a pan, but not sure what goes with it. Apart from ORANGES.

Be good and stay safe. xxxx

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Apr 2020 12:47

Good luck with cooking the duck breast Frank and don't cook them too much or they will be as hard as iron. I did that with one I cooked for oh years ago. Skin side down first to crisp the skin and then turn them over and give them a prod after a minuet or two.

I have fed the chickens, washed oh's fleece coat and thats on the line but there is rain spots in the air.

He has been mowing and come in cold so I have put my back warmer on him and he has gone off in the study.

I have cooked the eggs for lunch for fishing sandwiches. (egg and tomato) he always calls them that as its what he used to taking when he went fishing.

Clouded right over now and no sign of sunshine so dull and miserable.

I keep thinking its Saturday! :-S

Hope Jane is not too dizzy today and will come on the thread soon. We need to hear from her.

AnninGlos Report 3 Apr 2020 13:20

good afternoon all. Just had a long chat with a U3A friend who spotted OH cleaning the cars as she was going by the end of the road on her walk to Tesco. Nice to see somebody else 'in the flesh' so to speak. I have chatted with lots of U3A gardening friends this morning on line as well as I sent out a newsletter.

We have had a delivery of compost farmer's manure, growbags and packets of seeds this morning from the local garden centre. Ordered and paid over the phone this morning and delivered an hour or so ago. so that is good and OH can get on with his gardening now.

Frank I love duck, I do usually cook duck legs as they are cheaper but have duck breast when out. It should be served slightly pink with lovely crispy skin. Small roast potaoes carrots and peas would be nice with it as well as a plum or maybe cheryy sauce. Or at a pinch if you have not got that fruit apple sauce would be fine just to take the ricjness off.

Mandy, hope your washing has dried. It is dry here but still chilly 11 degrees out there.

My car was covered in sand, We think there must have been a shower that had sand in it overnight recently.

Jane, hope you are OK and that Fotz's wife is improving and he has not caught it. <3 <3

All CHANGE, It's now a SPAG BOL. (not much difference) lol lol. I have no Oranges or plumbs, so it would have had to be. New pots and whatever veg I have in the fridge.

Ros has been down the greenhouse since I don't know when. She is planting on some little plants that she received last night. She had set loads of runner beans in pots, and other things she has bought.

I was going to sit outside with my BOOK. but there is a good NIP in the air, so decided against it. My poor body, feels like I have had 10 rounds with HENRY COOPER. There doesn't seen anywhere, they doesn't ache. I might go and lay on the bed, to see if that helps. Must try not to drop off. xxxx

Oil man is here and about time too. :-D :-D :-D

You've had a busy morning AnnG and seen someone too if only from a distance.

I must ring Aunty Joy before its too late and while I remember.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 3 Apr 2020 15:07

Frank, that is quite a change. But what will you do with the duck now as I assume it was out of the freezer and ready to cook. Spag Bol is a bit of a change. It is what we have tonight as well.

Mel, glad you have got oil.

The trouble with Genes is when something doesn't work you don't know if it is them or something you are/are not doing. I have just tried to change my avatar and for the life of me can't get it to change. So I don't know if the photos I chose were wrong or if it is just not working. :-(

Annx Report 3 Apr 2020 15:25

Afternoon All,

A bit mixed here today, chilly but looks nice when the sun comes out. I might go in the greenhouse and plant the beans next.

Isn't it a relief when you get a slot and you managed to get two Vera!! I'm amazed you got one for Monday.

We went to the chemist for the rest of our prescription half an hour before they opened this morning. We may as well have stayed in bed, as this time there was a notice on the door to say they were closed till 11.00am to have a deep clean. We decided it wasn't worth going at 11.00am as it will be packed then with people that decided to wait that had arrived nearer 11.00am and others we saw arriving as we drove away. One couple threw their hands in the air in despair when they saw the new notice. We had a check at home and decided we have enough of the missing tablets each to last us a few more days, as luckily we had ordered a bit ahead in the past, so will try again on Monday!! What a game!!

I have eaten duck when we've been out, but we won't eat any meat pink. Good luck with finding a recipe Frank. Ros certainly gets stuck into things. I have ordered some more seeds. We don't have the raised beds at the moment as we haven't cleared all the soil yet or got the Veg trugs to replace them, but I have various pots I'm not using and some things could be planted in the borders. I think a read of your book is a good idea with how battered and bruised you are. It will keep you out of mischief! lol

We had fish with little potatoes, carrots and mushy peas for lunch with parsley sauce.

I thought we might miss going out every day Mel, but we are fine up to now and are focussing on catching up with all the jobs that have been neglected. OH is halfway through all the notes he needs to catch up on and will have more after an internet conference meeting next week. I think when there's nowhere to go and no-one else can go out you don't feel you are missing out. I am going to draw up a list of places to go to once we can. One place is a museum in the Cotswolds where they have minute sculptures that a man (his name escapes me) has done in things like the eye of a needle. I saw a tv programme about him a while back.As you say it is good to be able to come on here and have a chat with each other. I ought to do more FH too, as there's always a brick wall somewhere in your tree. Oh thank goodness your oil has arrived at last!

I hope your back is a little better this morning AnnG. That's good the delivery has arrived so your OH can get on in the garden. He keeps busy doesn't he. I think I can only remember my OH wash the cars once or twice.

Sun's out now so I'm off up the garden. BBL :-D

Rang Joy and had quite a long chat. She was painting the back of the house round the back door with Weathershield. She's 85 on the 24th April. She usually goes out every day and works in the charatiy shops so she fed up of being indoors and as you can imagine is not a happy bunny. She siad she went for a walk up Chudleigh park and was looking at something and tripped over a tree root in the path and fell flat on her face. Grazed both knees through her jeans and banged her cheek but did'nt break the skin on there.

I told her to be carefull as she dos'nt want to end up in hospital at a time like this when the staff are stretched to breaking point.

Annx Report 3 Apr 2020 16:28

HOT RADIATORS MEL!! That must be so nice again after the chilly weather we've had. :-) I don't think you will need them on Sunday though when it's supposed to be really warm. Your auntie Joy sounds quite a character, but she needs to be extra careful now as you say.

I see Kate Garraway's husband is in intensive care.
