Mo I think the " Strickley come dancing " has got off with a bad start once again they are letting them that cannot dance and i mean cannot go through while the ones that show a good chance of becoming good dnacer go , I know it is the public vote but why do they have to do this . it is mainly sports men and stars that have been in series s on Tv that get through. still i suppose it is what the public want. perhaps they get a joy out of watching the bad dancers perform..
I too loved dancing Mo I went most evening to the Palis in Cricklewood Broadway we had all the big bands playing there at some time.I often went at weekend to Wembley Town Hall or Acton Townhall and Hammersmith Palis.in the afternoon on the weekend I often went Rolling Skaing at the Cricklewood Palis as well. My mum use to say I would end up with bad feet.
I learned to Dance at the Ritz Ballroom in neasden and gained my Bronze and Silver medal I didnt bother with my Gold.
good old days they were 2/6pence to get in.

Mo I think he think he is being picked on all the time it is a shame because he is a good dancer.I bet when he get allocated a partner she must cringe at the thought.

I use to Dance at some of the ballroom where Jack Parnell played (do you rember him ) and Ivy Bensons Girl Band and Joe Loss , also Lou Preager and his Ochester. and many others.

we had some American Bands as well .I can recall dancing to The American Patrol (I think that was the name of the tune.) Jitter Buging and Rock and Roll along with the twist.
I use to catch a trolley bus to the Palis at Cricklewood and during the winter when we had ice or snow the rails use to come off the overhead track and people use to get off and help the conduct with the long pole to put it back on the overhead rail it use to be a job as it was iced up.
people would not beleive it today if I told them.

My God Mo and Rita, how old are you two?.....LOL

Rita I would love to see you Jitter Bug, I've only ever seen it done on old films, I thought it was great. Don't think I could ever do it, I'm not that energetic.

All the secrets are coming out now Mo, sneaking off to dances that your mother said you couldn't go to.......LOL

Rita you need to upgrade to see the criminal records, I upgraded mine yesterday.

Rita if you have names I could look for you, unless you want to look for yourself of course. If you have a lot of London BMD it is probably worth while. I have found loads of baptisms and Burials for one family, I've yet to start on the marriages. Quite a lot of my family ended upin Greater London/ Middlesex.

Had a nice meal with friends. Hubby has gone to bed, he has to be up at 5:00. I might spend half an hour on Ancestry.

See you all in the morning. Washing and gardening tomorrow

Morning all

Pauline I was born begining of 1931. we grew up quickly during the War it was a case of you had too. I started work when I was 14 years old and worked for a company who trained the troops the skills of Welding. I worked in the office £2.10 shilling s week. that included working Saturday Morning. Mum and Dad truested me if I was going anywhere I use to tell them and what time I would be back when I went dancing I was home at 11 oclock and I was 15 when I started going..
I put my age up when I went into the Land Army I tried the Wrens first but they found out my real age.

thank you for the offer Linda but I do have a lot of names of one of the branches of the family but I will have to see whether it is worth my upgrading or not. ?

How can I find out if my tree on GR is still hidden for the first 50 years or more. ?

I seem to be seeing names crop up on the trying to find which are mine and they belong to my Grandchildren and I dont know these people who are asking for the trying to find.

Hi Mo.

I love watching the dancing as well, When I look at all those lovely dresses I think I wish it was me !!!! LOL

Oh I do love a man that can dance.......they can whiz me around as much as they want !

I used to go jiving every Friday night it cost me 6pence to get in and I thought I was the best jiver in the dance hall ..LOL

Do you remember those hoop skirts ?
Blinking nuisance every time you sat down the flippen skirt took off ..!!
But we were the bizzo ........or we thought we were.

Mo, you aren't much older than me but my music was Motown, still love it now.

When I went to discos and night clubs the dancing was just shuffling around the floor, nobody did the good stuff like jiving. My sister was only a couple of years older than me and she said all the dancing changed just before I started going out.

Marilyn, I remember my cousins wearing those hooped skirts, they couldn't sit down in them.........LOL

When I was at school my mam let me have one of those can-can slips that were made with about 6 layers of net. It made my skirt stick out like a ballerina's, I thought it was wonderful.

Rita, I bet you could buy a lot with your £2.10shillings. How much of that did your parents let you keep?
