O you popped in while I was typing.

I'm pleased you're home safely. It sounds like it was a very nice service.

The Thyroid Register at the Hospital send the form Mandy and it's the surgery where they take the blood, so only a couple of miles away. I've asked them to do the HB1AC blood sugar test I should have yearly too and there's usually argey bargey with that with them phoning me at home and saying why do I need it as I'm not diabetic!! The Research Unit doctor advised it years ago, as I was a bit high on my readings, but the nurses at the surgery don't look in my notes properly. No phone call tonight though, so fingers crossed.

OH just asked me to look at my car......it's snowing again and the screen is covered!

I've taken the plunge and ordered a new laptop. What with all the problems with the old one I could see it packing up anytime and it is old. The new one should be here by Wednesday so I'd better get saving what I want from the old one.

Edit: Glad everyone made it ok Vera and that you are back home now. Once you have heard from your son, you can hopefully get a good night's sleep after an emotional day.

good morning, bright here but still-1 degree so i guess a bit chilly. A bit sad today as Tony's lovely Lexus is going to be picked up I think to be held at the garage for selling on. And yesterday his golf clubs and trolley etc all went as well to the man who runs the junior branch. He is giving donations as he sells them.

Woken up with a stiff muscle in my back which is something I don't need.

hope you all had a good sleep I did reasonable well.

Morning Anng and Mandy,

Dull old day today but still dry I hav'nt been out yet but the tree are moving a bit so still a breeze out there.

Mandy I have replied to your email. Are the children enjoying the snow?

Delivery day today so everything is ready for the big wipe down. It seems to come around very quickly lately or is it just me? I have just the one sub and thats my wine but I shall accept the one they have subbed it for as thats not bad and we only have a bottle on a Saturday night and sometimes it goes to the Sunday too.

Well thats me sorted for the day what everyone else doing?

Morning Mel and Mandy. Sunny here but I have just been out to the garage and it is bitterly cold out there 1 degree now.

Getting sorted gradually Mandy, It must have been a lot easier when you had just a cheque book and paying in book and no credit cards to stop and all the services like electricity, gas et had shops you could visit. The internet is very useful but every card/account need so much filling in. Poor daughter spends half her time on the computer and half on the phone. And I am also doing some myself.

Good morning to you all,

Had a very annoying telephone call this morning, they said it was Amazon. I had my doubts when they started asking about banking details. I told them where to get off, and they hung up.

I have a meeting with the "FALLS TEAM" at Daintre Hospital, at 1.00 pm. I expect it will be to see if I have had anymore falls. Why they can't ask these questions on the phone, I don't know.

I had a call from the people who are putting in the hand rail down the steps onto the lawn. They are coming next Thursday between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm. So It will mean I will have to stay at home all day, waiting. I hope they don;t come at 5.00 pm, as it will dark, and they won't see what they are doing.

We had a sprinkling of snow over night. Nothing compared to what Mandy had, but it's still very cold outside. So winter DRAWS ON. lol lol

Wednesday I have to have my left eye lazered . Jan had hers done last week, and said everything is fine now. So it will be nice to have clear vision out of my left eye.

Not decided what to have for dinner tonight, so will sort something later.

Take care if you are out and about today. See you later xxxx

Morning All,

I had very little sleep and was awake till 5.00am! Lucklily the bin men's clatter woke me at 7.00am so I got up to get showered ready to go for my blood tests. OH cleaned the snow and ice off my car for me. I decided some sturdy trainers would be best in the snow so found those. As I set off my tyre pressure warning light came on, despite OH having checked and blown them up a little while ago. I need to check them again before I go out in it and if the same one has gone down again it looks like it may have a puncture! There were roadworks at the end of our close with traffic lights and also in the village where the surgery is with cones everywhere, all around 2 islands. They are resurfacing the roads and some will be closed off on some dates........glad it wasn't today. I opened the car boot to put something in when I got there then had a devil of a job to get it shut again with it having frozen! Both blood tests done now and they said results would be back in a couple of days so my meds should go through ok. :-) I saw 2 little toddlers being pulled along on their little sledges.

It's been snowing big flakes this morning but has stopped again now. OH has something that needs to be eaten today so I think I will have some soup.

I was only thinking the same this morning Mel.......how quick the food drops come around and the wiping! :-S At least you can keep your wine sub this time. :-D

Was the surgery I mentioned in your village the one you use AnnG? I always feel sad parting with my old cars anyway (except one that was a lot of trouble!), but it must be worse losing the links with T. Also his golf clubs which would have been dear to him. Still, others will love and appreciate them so that is good.

On a similar vein I was looking at local dog and cat rescue sites last night (I often do......just window shopping!) and a beautiful black and white Cocker Spaniel was needing a home as his owner was too ill to care for him. It said it was a lovely friendly dog and I thought how sad it was for someone, probably on their own, to lose their faithful companion because they couldn't manage the care. I thought if I ever adopted a dog like that I would visit the previous owner with the dog at times if they wanted and leave it with them for an hour or two.

Morning AnnG, Mandy and all

I think the snow has moved from us to you Mandy. We’ve had a couple of light snow showers but nothing very much and close to the house where it’s a bit warmer the snow is starting to thaw a bit. I was supposed to be collecting my new glasses early this morning but I couldn’t face going out again so I rang the optician’s and arranged to go on Thursday when I have to go to town to pick up my meds anyway.

You are coping so well with sorting everything out AnnG. There’s such a lot to do at a really difficult time and I’m so pleased your daughter can be there to help you.

I started this before 9.30 but keep getting phone calls so I’ll post now and come back later

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Feb 2021 11:40

Sorry Ann I forgot to answer about the surgery. Yes that is my surgery, I was aware of the gardening prescriptions but have not seen the garden, I assume the same is for everyone as there have not been many face to face meetings for a year now (don't get me started on that, I will always wonder if Tony's lung cancer would have been picked up sooner if we had not had covid and no surgery appointments. I have no doubt the outcome would have been the same but he may have been spared the pain and confusion if better diagnosed.)
Yes better check the tyre closely Ann, it may weel mean a new tyre.

Vera best not to go out if it is slippery, you have had enough problems with your foot.

I am really pleased with Tony's donations, with the on line donations and some separate his total is over £500. It is such a worthy charity and he would be thrilled at how much he has raised for them. People are very generous. And, of course more will be given as the golf clubs are 'sold'.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Feb 2021 12:37

Anng thats wonderful the donations have raised £500 and more to come. He will be watching and seeing all the good things his possesions shall do for the charity.

Vera don't go out if its slippy you don't want to hurt that foot again. Much better to do two jobs in one go with your glasses and meds.

Ann it could just be the temp thats making your car tyre light coming on or maybe the seal has gone a bit on the rim.

Frank hope your man come earlyish to do your rail down to the lawn and not turn up later in the day.

Annx

Annx Report 9 Feb 2021 15:48

Yes, I think we are all getting a bit better organised and quicker at the wipe downs Mel. It's not a job you want to dawdle at is it. I thought it was the cold that caused the light to come on before Mel, but one tyre had lost 4 pounds and was lower than the others which wasn't a good sign. OH will check them again when the snow has gone and see if it is the same tyre. The light comes on with this car as soon as the tyres drop 2 pounds.

Yes, that is a good sum of money donated and will do some good in T's name AnnG. I expect you have got the ball rolling with a lot of things now and are waiting for replies. You are right about all the different kinds of accounts we have to deal with nowdays. No wonder we don't feel retired in the same sense as our parents did.

OH has gone for his jab now. I wonder which one he will get? I would have gone with him, but someone has to be here in case my laptop arrives today. It is supposed to be out for delivery. I have now saved over 32,000 photos/documents from the current laptop onto the other drive, so am ready to go with the new one.

5.00pm would be a bit late to be doing the rail for you Frank. I hope they come earlier than that for you.

Neighbour's son still hasn't gone to work and this is the second week he's been off so I hope he's ok. He had a stroke when he was 21 so hospital work isn't ideal in these times.

Better get my things sorted for class tomorrow. I might have another go at the Clematis after watching a youtube video idea that I think will be helpful!

I think I shall have an early night as I'm flagging a bit now!

Just to let you all know Sandra is okay and after speaking with her over the phone she seems to be happy, which is the main thing. I've asked her to keep in touch which she said she'd do. My only concern was she had a call off her old social worker but she ignored it, so I'm not sure what's going to happen there. I didn't like to say anything about it over the phone incase it upset her in some way and she stopped ringing as that's the last thing we want, it's the only contact we have at the moment as she hasn't given us the address she's staying at. M&M gave me the address but she doesn't know I know. The last thing we want is for her to move again. I'm not sure what social services are going to do or the police with her not answering the call. Apparently the police told social services about her being reported as a missing person. I thought it was M&M who had rang social services, maybe they did as well I don't know. At least she's not homeless living on the streets which is a weight off our minds. All we can do now is wait and see what happens. With her being an adult, even though everyone knows she's special needs, I can't make her live with us. I even said to the policeman we can't lock her in here and he agreed, so we're just praying she'll keep herself safe and keep in contact with us like she said she would.

They don't get any easier these children of ours whatever age they are, do they?

The wind here is really up now and its sooooooo very cold.

Annx

Annx Report 9 Feb 2021 17:03

Oh Gill, maybe she will get a talking to when Social Services get in touch as she needs to show them she can behave safely as well as sensibly or she might not get the sort of accommodation she'd like. She doesn't sound like she will be sensible, otherwise why not give you her address? Her judgment about her friends hasn't been very 'adult' up to now and I suspect she will be taken advantage of again which is such a shame.

OH is back from his jab and said there were hundreds there queuing round 2 sides of the big events hall and were in 3 lanes by the time he reached the entrance. All done now though and he had the Astrazeneca jab and they said he only had to wait the 15 mins in his case because he was driving himself home. I find it strange as we were always told it was in case of allergic reaction. He's already playing the old soldier with his arm!! lol. :-D

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 9 Feb 2021 18:02

AnnG that's really good with the donations reaching that amount and more to come too i'm sure T would be really pleased .

Gill at least you've talked to Sandra but why didn't she give you her address ,do you think she's back with her so called friends again ,did you have the address of her friends last time ? is it the same place this time .
She will need to talk to the social worker at some point if she wants her own place and they won't give her one if they think she isn't toeing the line .

Ann that's good OH has had his jab ,sounds as if he must had had a good wait with queues like that ,i suppose if your going to have a reaction to the jab you'll have it in the first fifteen minutes but then again Colin could come straight home as son was driving .
Coiln said his arm is now a bit sore but only when he touches it .

I don't know why but we got talking about Starch this afternoon ,i wonder if people still starch things .
I remember mum having starch but can't remember what she used it for .
Colin said his mum use to starch his dads shirt collars .

We've had more big flakes of snow but there has been a good thaw today as we have had a little sun at times .
Max goes out in the snow and goes round the garden like the clappers ,Colin went out to clear the path and as fast as he shifted the snow Max was spreading it about again lol he doesn't roll in it thank goodness but he does poke his nose into the snow and at one point he had a white chin it looked like he had a white beard .

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Feb 2021 18:08

Ann when the docs rang me for my appointment for the jab she asked my about 4 questions. I can only remember one and that was had I ever had an anaphylactic shock.

There's really arctic conditions out there now. All the chickens water was frozen again so I took the big metal drinker out and put it in oh's shed workshop hoping it may thaw so I can get the top off tomorrow to refill it. The bantams one I put in my shed after emptying the water out so its only got a bit of ice round it and I can get that one in the sink to thaw that out.

Have any of you had anymore snow?

Frank did the man come to do the rail?

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 9 Feb 2021 18:21

Oh goodness Gill. I am glad you have been able to speak to Sandra and that she is safe and apparently happy. That will set your mind at rest a bit. I can understand that you don't want to upset her but the problem is all the time you tiptoe around her on eggshells, she will keep pushing the boundaries. It's what all youngsters do and with her special needs Sandra is an adult in years but with a youngster's lack of judgement and sense of responsibility. I hope her social workers or someone can reach her because it needs someone to say "Enough is Enough". That probably sounds a bit harsh but I am concerned for her wellbeing and yours, as I am sure your other "mums" on this thread are. It sounds as though Michelle is keeping half an eye on her and keeping you informed which is good.

AnnG, you are raising a good amount of money for a worthwhile cause. I am sure T. is smiling down on you for that. How is your sore back? You really don't need extra aches and pains right now.

It sounds as though your OH had a long wait at the vaccination centre. Is he being a brave little soldier? Are you making a fuss of him? MY OH is the opposite of most men. Minor things he just puts up with and if he is really unwell he just wants to be left alone whereas I want to play nurse and plump his pillows and fuss over him. The trouble is when I am unwell he leaves me completely alone whereas I would love someone to mop my fevered brow. Never happy are we?

Your snowy bench is well cushioned Mandy :-) Ours had a similar amount of snow on Sunday and yesterday but a lot has thawed today so it just has a thin icy coating now.

I hope your rail got fixed today Frank. Now, don't go trying it out till the weather is a bit better.

I watched the webcast of my brother's funeral today, not from any morbid sense but because I felt that I didn't really take everything in yesterday. It was all a bit unreal and dreamlike, but having seen it again today I realise it was a lovely service and very, very right for him. I found that comforting. My son texted at 10.15 to say they were safely back. I went to bed around 11 pm and read till midnight and then slept better than I have for a long while.

OH is cooking us a meal for 7 pm and I have to ring brother's partner before then so I had better do that now. Have a good evening all.

Island Report 9 Feb 2021 18:27

Dizziness after a vaccination is a reaction you wouldn't want if your driving yourself home.
I've always been asked to wait after the flu jab, not that I drive but they don't want patients passing out in the street either.
