That did cross my mind during the night AnnG. I did have aching in my arm right down to my elbow and across to my collar bone. I seem to get more cramps in recent years though and it felt like the start of a cramp spasm when it happened. I had that similar plantar fasciitis pain in my foot not long ago too. It might be connected with me not being able to walk too much now, that or my 'elastic' all needs replacing. I think I will start doing more stretches next in case my ligaments and muscles are getting tight and see if that helps.

That was disappointing your lamb shrunk so much Frank. There wouldn't be much left as you say as there is a lot of bone in shoulder of lamb. What book are you reading now? I hope they make your garden safe soon ready for when you can sit outside in the sun to read. We have missed sitting in the garden and are looking forward to being able to do it again.

We had a twin pack of lamb shanks today and I usually buy the singles. When I got them out of the oven on the baking tray and then lifted the foil tin they were in, it was heavier than the single shanks and the foil crumpled one side with one of the shanks ending up on the kitchen floor!!!! I couldn't help but think it was a good job Max wasn't around Mandy!! lol. I quickly rescued it and stuck it in a pyrex jug and poured boiling water over it to kill bugs before putting it on OH's plate! (well it was the BIGGEST ONE). He then appeared and saw the mess on the floor and picked up what he thought was a piece of meat that had fallen and stuck it in his mouth!! It was a chunk of bone so that will teach him! He then started those unhelpful 'wise after the event' comments like to have shouted him to help (he never hears!) so I stuck a cloth in his hand to wipe the floor. :-)

He's watching footie now and I am facing the Clematis drawing again. I think I might buy another Clematis this year. I fancy a patio one in a pot in the corner of the patio to give a bit more height than the usual planted pot. It is quite shady there in the mornings. Has anyone else tried them with success?

Oh no Vera, I hope it stops soon and doesn't last!

You do make me laugh Ann. You need not have washed the lamb shank if he came in and was going to eat the bit on the floor anyway.

I have one of the small flowered clematis in a pot but I think the roots have gone through the pot and concret on the patio. it flowers well every year. I couldn'nt move it if I wanted to but it seems quite happy where it is.

Annx, I was stifling a guffaw! I thought you were going to say your OH picked up the gravy sodden cloth and put it on his plate :-0 :-0
:-D :-D :-D

AnninGlos Report 7 Feb 2021 15:17

If the roots have gone through the pot into the patio Mel that is why it does well as clematis like their roots to be cool. We have lots (must learn to say 'I' now) in the garden but they were always Tony's first love. He was always buying new ones, So I have to look up what to do with them.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Feb 2021 15:24

I think the rule of thumb is to cut back after flowering but with the small ones I cut them down to about 18" now and also the Jackmanii I do in Feb too to the same height.

I know most of them like their heads in the sun and roots in the shade.

Hallo Linda. Welcome. It’s nice to see you but I have a feeling you might have been meaning to post on the Rugby thread. OH is watching the match at the moment and my son and his family in Yorkshire are all rugby mad and will be shouting advice at the TV set.

Sunshine Mel? Now you’re making me jealous. It’s still snowing here though it has eased up a bit but I expect it will come down hard again shortly.

It’s clearly a lamb day as we had lamb shanks too and they were delicious. I bet you muttered a few choice words when yours ended on the floor Ann. I laughed at your OH. He sounds just like mine. I hope your arm and leg aches ease up soon

I have a Sainsbury delivery at 5 pm, if he gets here, so it’ll be wipe down for me. Apparently I have 4 subs today. 2 are OK, and 2 I’ll send back. 1 of them bears no relation to what I ordered and you have to wonder how the picker thought I could substitute one for the other.

I had an NHS letter yesterday and it was dated 30th Jan 2021. It says in bold letters BOOK YOUR CORONAVIRUS (corvid-19) VACCINE APPONITMENTS NOW.

Dear Melanie S******** you are able to book your free NHS coronavirus vaccine now. Blah blah blah.

A bit late seeings as I had my first one on Friday what?

Yes it was keeping the roots cool in a pot that I wondered about AnnG. I have 3 other Clematis in the garden and have never got round to putting slate or rocks over the roots for those. They are in blazing sun all day and still do well every year. The pruning regime is different according to the type isn't it. I confess to just cutting back the large flowered maroon one hard. The other, bell flowered ones just get tidied up. T would be pleased you are thinking of his Clematis. My friend whose husband passed away last April still uses 'we'. After a lifetime together it's bound to take some getting used to.

I was tempted but had to try to keep a straight face Island! I wondered why I bothered about bugs too after he stuck the bone in his mouth Mel. Men eh! We had a chuckle when I was doing his midday ear drops. He has to lay on his side on the bed with his ear under the light so I can see where to drip the drops. I was poised and ready with the dropper when he started talking about some cupboard or other he thought he'd left open. He's such a chatterbox anyway. 'I must remember to shut it' he said. In a weary voice I quietly said 'I wish you would' and he got the giggles then as he knew what I meant and I had a job to get the drops in his ear. :-D

Mel I got one of those letters too a few days after my vaccine. I think they are sending them so you can book online if you haven't heard from your surgery yet. They are probably at the bigger or new centres that are opening as they are trying to get everyone vaccinated ASAP. It is probably quicker and easier to send them to everyone who is eligible rather than wait for surgeries to feed back who has already had theirs. They have had problems at a centre in the city here in a largely ethnic area, as people have just been turning up expecting the vaccine without an appointment!

Colin was soon back ,only about six cars on the car park and he went straight in and out ,he had the Astray Zeneca .

Ann I had to smile yes Max would have pounced on the lamb lol but if I say no hot he stands back .

We've had another light flurry of snow I can just see a little white on the roof.

We are having Sausage Casserole tonight with creamy mash and veg ,then a piece of marmalade cake with custard if we have room .

SuffolkVera Report 7 Feb 2021 18:23

No sign of Sainsbury's yet or any message from them. I have a horrible feeling that they are not going to turn up.

The snow has stopped for the moment but it is lying quite thick and icing over.

MillymollyAmanda Report 7 Feb 2021 18:37

They might just be really delayed with the weather as it is Vera .
I hope you can travel tomorrow, will it be an early start or can you leave a little later to give the roads a chance to clear a bit ,how far do you have to go .
When ever you go i hope you have a safe journey ,will be thinking of you <3

Little bit more snow here with bigger flakes .

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Feb 2021 18:47

No snow here. I do hope you can get to the funeral tomorrow Vera and the others can get there. after all the preperations it would be a terrible thing if it could'nt happen. Hope you have a safe journey when you go. We will all be thinking of you.

Annx

Annx Report 7 Feb 2021 19:35

Of course, I was forgetting you have to travel too Vera and wonder how far you have to go as well. I hope there's no more snow overnight. I bet the Sainsbury's driver is being held up getting around with the weather. Hopefully just late.

That's good the snow didn't hold Colin up and that he's had his jab now Mandy. I think the rest of us have had the Pfizer one up to now but they all do the job. I wonder which OH will have on Tuesday.

I've just been watching Terry live who played Happy Birthday and sent me the red socks. Passers by his house were standing outside in the snow listening to him play, so he unlocked his window and played them some requests! The ginger cat from up the road wanted to come in too so he went and let him in!

I was hoping to get my thyroid blood test done next week once the 2 weeks immunity has built up, but have noticed my prescription says my meds due this week won't be issued till I have the blood test now. It was due before Christmas and the surgery never even bothered about it till I rang them, and then chased it up with the hospital. :-S At least it shouldn't be busy with vaccinations though as their patients are all being vaccinated at the racecourse where I had to go.

SuffolkVera Report 7 Feb 2021 21:23

Sainsbury’s did eventually turn up I’m pleased to say. Everything is now wiped and put away.

I’m glad Colin got his jab OK Mandy and hope he doesn’t have any side effects.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts for our family tomorrow. It’s about 50 miles each way for us and normally takes less than one and a half hours but we will probably allow double the time. Luckily we needn’t leave till late morning. It’s about the same distance for my daughter and granddaughter to come and nearer 60 miles for my grandson. However it’s more like 250 miles each way for my son and dil and, awful though it sounds, I half hope they don’t come. I think I’m getting more nervous as I’m getting older. Once upon a time I’d have taken bad weather in my stride.

It’s not actually snowing at the moment but the forecast is for more. Oh well, what will be, will be.
