Morning all,

Thank you Elizabeth I hope you have a peaceful week too ,keep safe .

Ann you had a restless night by the look of things I hope you managed to nod off in the end .
You little devil playing a trick on OH lol have you tried a little cif on the stain if you have any I find it good for lots of things I use it on my window sills where the birds have left there marks.

I buy my carrots and store them down the shed in the cold I put them in a cardboard box loose and they keep for ages ,I'm still using some I bought before Christmas , I used a cabbage yesterday and that too I bought before Christmas .
I put all my veg in the shed and that's where we keep the spuds too just throw a cover over them in case the frost gets to them but it never has .

Oh Mel fid you see the pottery programme, I thought of you when the chap did the fairy castle , that was my favourite.

Just having a coffee ,log shifting later so I'd better see if my barrow will start :-D
I made Colin laugh when I said that .

Morning All,

Ha ha ha love the see if my barrow will start!!!!!!!! very good I like it.

Bit grey here today but it keeps trying to brighten up a bit.

Hope you get the logs in ok and it dos'nt rain for you whilst shifting them.

Two subs on my order so far, one my ciggy papers which dos'nt matter and the other is the cauli and brocc veg I thought I would do a cauli cheese with. I shall have to change the menu.

Missing Franks posts...........

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 18 Jan 2021 11:46

Just doing my list and no cauliflower at all on there. I did read that a lot of veg, carrots, cauli as well as others will be short because of the new Brexit rules holding up lorries crossing the channel. So I will have to check my order carefully next Saturday.

So you had a good sleep in the end Anng.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 18 Jan 2021 12:24

Yes surprisingly I did. Just walked down with a load of FH books for the book stall. Gosh that wind is icy. then managed to cut back a few more bits, need to get that bit finished soon as it is rambling rose and should really have been done by now.

T just phoned. I do get confused as from getting used to the fact that he is frail and weak, he then phones and his voice is quite strong and I can understand him clearly. He said nothing changes there, he was just phoning to make sure I am ok. He also said they keep trying to get him to sit out and (his words) go outside. I think he probably means a day room. But he says he doesn’t want to because it is too much trouble. I told him to do what he feels like doing.

Someone spoke to him offering a drink I said try orange squash, he said no he would stick To milk. Then he said, speak later and was gone before I could say goodby.

AnninGlos Report 18 Jan 2021 15:31

Yes Mel, good to hear from him as I didn't hear yesterday. I was telling daughter that he was going on about oranges again and it is hard for me to ask somebody to drive 20 miles there and back with half a dozen satsumas. Next think I know she has ordered 2.5Kg of mixed oranges in a basket to be delivered (Wednesday they should be there). Wonder if it will work.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 18 Jan 2021 16:31

Good to hear you are OK Frank.

I’m pleased you have heard from T. AnnG. I hope he enjoys his oranges. Your daughter doesn’t let the grass grow under her feet does she? Bless her, she’s looking after her Dad which isn’t easy when you’re a distance away.

I had a Sainsbury delivery on Saturday and there was no problem with veg. I had large and small potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage and lots of salad stuff. The only thing they didn’t have was watercress so they sent rocket instead.

Today has been a day full of phone calls. My brother’s funeral is now more or less sorted out. It will be 3 weeks today. It has been fairly easy on his partner as during his last few days my brother wrote down what he wanted so we haven’t really had to think at all, just sort his wishes out with the funeral director and celebrant. It all seems a bit unreal at the moment. Although he was 6 years younger than me we were very close. Most of the time I’m OK but occasionally something will knock me back. Last night I read something in the paper and immediately thought that R. would be interested in that and I must email him. Then it hit me that I can’t ever email him again. That was a tearful moment.

On a lighter note I had a laugh at you going to start your barrow Mandy. I hope your logs are all stacked now and you don’t ache too much. OH had a silly phone conversation yesterday. It went something like this.

Voice: Is Vera there? This is Karen
OH: Which Carol is that?
Voice: Karen from Cornwall
OH: Oh, Carol from Cornard. It doesn’t sound like you at all.
Voice: Doesn’t it? I wonder why. Anyway, Mum asked me to call....

At this point OH realised something was wrong as Carol’s Mum had long since departed this life so they started all over again and he worked out who was on the other end. Karen then apologised for not speaking clearly and OH said it was his fault. He couldn’t hear because he was wearing the wrong glasses :-S. Lots of giggles all round :-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 18 Jan 2021 16:56

That made me giggle Vera, several senior moments there and a phone call very similar to this I have with T. Sometimes mobile phones are not clear, I actually had to ask him not to shout the other day it is how clear not how loud that helps. Does your OH have a slight hearing problem.

I am sure it must sometimes seem unreal to you. I still 26 years later sometimes half think about telling my Mum something.

Yes looking after her Dad and saving her Mum from having something else to fret about. She is so good. I do hope they get there ok. She said they are the most expensive oranges she has bought. And she won’t let me share the cost.

Hello Frank glad you are ok.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 18 Jan 2021 18:18

That made me chuckle Vera. Eric Sykes wore glasses that were hearing aids though so not so silly really.

I got on quite well today as I changed the bed this afternoon and oh helped me so it did'nt take so long and I did'nt need a rest inbetween stripping and remaking. Thats in the machine which will go on tonight but its forcast rain for tomorrow so may have to go in the dryer. I try not to use it too much as it runs away with the leccy. I had hoovered the kitchen and diner and hall and the bedroom. so I think thats enough for today.

I expect Mandy is all cosy now she has her logs in. Hope the barrow started first time and the battery was'nt flat. :-D :-D

Now what our Ann up to today?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 18 Jan 2021 18:20

I think she had an on line course Mel

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 18 Jan 2021 18:54

Yes Mel my barrow started up first time :-D

I wheeled round sixteen barrow loads and Colin did the last one ,he loaded the barrows while i wheeled the barrow round ,we then stored the logs all away in the wood shed and now i'm absolutely worn out and i think in the morning my arms will be that stiff i won't be able to use them ,it will be an early night for me tonight .

Ann how did the painting lesson go today ,did you manage to keep awake , what are you painting now .

Its very early days Vera and your bound to have times like that when things suddenly hit you but it's good to cry and let it out much better than holding it back . <3

Mel it's much better when you have help with the bed ,i find it hard to tuck the sheet under the mattress as ours is a deep one and so heavy ,i find the fitted sheets are the worst so i like the flat sheets .

AnnG that was a lovely thing for your daughter to sort out the oranges for her dad ,it will be a nice surprise for him when they arrive and i hope he enjoys them

Nice to see you popping in Frank and letting us know your ok ,hope you feel better soon so you can start posting on here again .

Gill how is your mum now ,i hope she's feeling better .

What did we think of the Finding Alice programme last night ,i think it was ok ,i won't say to much in case some haven't watched it yet .

AnninGlos Report 18 Jan 2021 19:49

Mandy I gave up on finding Alice I thought it was probably not for me, maybe it will improve, who knows.

I bet you will be stiff my arms are a bit stiff after knitting 8 rows hopefully the more I do the less they will ache.

Island hi good to see you, hope you are ok. :-)

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 18 Jan 2021 20:11

AnnG, you asked if OH has a slight hearing problem. No, but he has a mega listening problem. Mostly he only half listens and then hears what he expects to hear. We have many a set-to about him not listening. He actually has very acute hearing.

While we are on his strange foibles......earlier he asked me what we were going to eat tonight. I said we would have cold chicken and mixed salad and he offered to prepare it. Well he certainly took the mixed salad literally. Every vaguely salad item in the fridge was chopped up very small and all thoroughly mixed up together. As this included the beetroot, the whole lot was a lurid shade of pink. Tasted OK though.

You’ve worked hard today Mandy. I hope you don’t ache too much tomorrow.

If you’re looking in Elizabeth I hope you also have a calm, peaceful week.

Hello Island! I hope you are well too, also that little doggie of yours. How is the new wonder machine going and have you made anything with it yet or are you still trying out what it can do?

Ha ha Mandy I had to laugh at your barrow and had visions of you whipping out a big cranking handle like we had on the old cars. :-D That's a good job done now though getting your logs stockpiled. The Cif stuff did help with my stained hand thanks and I now have very pink fingers instead of red ones.

How nice of your daughter to get some oranges sent to T AnnG. He sounds a bit better again today. I wonder if he always holds the phone right up to his mouth when he speaks to you? It is amazing though in general (not meaning T) how many people come across as muffled or gabble so fast anyone would have trouble hearing. When they leave a phone number to ring back I can hardly fathom it sometimes.

Nice to hear Frank is ok. I hope he is able to come back soon as well.

You did better getting all your veg Vera. It looks like cauli and broc are in short supply as I wanted that and it was out of stock too. How sad it must have been for your brother to realise he must plan his funeral. Good to help those left behind carry out your wishes though. It's a long wait for funerals these days too. I loved the silly phone call. It reminded me of a Two Ronnies Sketch!

OH was on a Zoom meeting when the window cleaner turned up, so he had to sort that and undo the gate. We thought he wouldn't be coming as happened with the last lockdown and it certainly isn't safer this time around although on checking they are allowed. I had to go out after and wipe down the door handles and the gate as I've seen him hold those as he stretches to reach the tops of the windows. No mask either and he coughs a lot with smoking so we weren't happy with him coming at all as he must act the same at all the other houses he cleans windows at.

The online painting class nearly didn't happen as there was a problem with zoom enabling the teacher let us join. We were quarter of an hour late in the end and it is the biggest class I have joined up to now. Today we were using different ways of painting Crocuses we had to draw........drawing them I didn't find easy at all! Homework (optional) is to draw and paint a few together choosing some of the techniques she showed us. I've started sketching!

You got quite a bit done today Mel. I need to steam the kitchen floor tomorrow. I keep finding a sticky bit with my slippers and it does need doing. I enjoyed the pottery prog and liked a few, but my favourite was the cornish tin mine pump house. I thought of you when I saw the fairy house with toadstools.

OH made me laugh tonight when he was putting new jimjams on after their first wash! We don't bother ironing much and I heard a muttered 'what the hell' and next thing the bottoms were being quickly dropped to half mast! It seems a long loose thread from the seam at the back that hadn't been trimmed in manufacture had managed to attach firmly around the button on the elasticated waist at the front and was having a 'cheesewire' effect as he pulled them up!! :-D :-D

I've written too much, so will shut up now.
