Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Aug 2020 09:43

Morning Anng and all,

Nice morning here today with forget mknot blue sky and big white clouds.

I have to get the car in today for its MOT so I am ging there and Stuarts wife will come back with me and take the car and then when its done she will bring it back to pick me up and I will run her back and pay for it. I think its going to be a lot this time as I have to have a new brake pipe as the mucky farm I go past rots the pipes and he told me it shall need it this year. Can't be without safe brakes now can I?

Thank goodness that high wind seems to have calmed down today but there is still wind out there.

Some one has backed into our road in a lorry and marked all oh's grass outside the wall. He seems to think its the oil lorry but its not due till Friday.

Morning all,

Very cloudy here with a slight drizzle ,how did everyone do with these high winds ,anyone had any damage ?
It woke me in the night such a roaring I thought the roof would go .

Oh Jane lovely to see you posting ,you enjoy your few days away and it will be nice if Janice and Larry can stay the three days with you ,hope the weather's nice for sitting out in the garden , here's a big smile from me :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

I was only saying the other day to son and family with all these masks on you don't see people smiling at each other any more ,I think we should all learn the sign language for a smile so we can do it when wearing a mask . :-D

Frank I wondered if Conrad should be isolating if he came home at the weekend ,or is Spain one of the country's exempt?

I've seen some lovely painted stones ,really good ones and there's also some small pieces of slate that I've seen painted too.

Better get on BBL

Good morning Mandy I am pretty sure you have to quarantine if coming from Spain..

Mel good luck with the MOT

SuffolkVera Report 26 Aug 2020 11:12

Morning all

Cloudy and grey here and still with a stiff wind. I was listening to it roaring around in the night too Mandy, but there doesn’t seem to be any damage in our little Close.

I haven’t got any particular plans for the rest of the day but I expect I’ll find something to do. At the moment we’re waiting for our car to be delivered back. Good luck with getting yours done Mel.

I saw yesterday that a For Sale board has gone up on the bungalow at the corner of our Close. The lady who lived there died around November time last year but by the time probate was sorted we were in lockdown so the bungalow was just left as it was. Over the last couple of weeks someone has been in and out tidying the garden and clearing stuff from the house. So we will be getting a new neighbour. I hope they are friendly as this is a lovely little Close and we don’t want someone like Gill’s Mr Grumpy moving in.

Frank, I was also concerned when you said Conrad came back last weekend and was visiting you this weekend. Surely he should be self-isolating for 2 weeks as Spain was one of the first countries on the quarantine list. Please be sure it’s OK for Conrad to come and don’t take any chances with your health.

Well, I’d better go and find something useful to do I suppose. I think my mojo’s gone walkabout this morning but I’m sure it will come back if I can just find the energy to start on something.

Frank

Frank Report 26 Aug 2020 11:15

Good morning all, (JUST)

Conrad doesn't need to go into quadantine. So it will be nice to see both sons in a few days. Lewis will be coming with Harvey, as he will get a free NOSH. You bet, he won't miss out on that. He can eat for ENGLAND.

I have booked a Table for Thursday without speaking to a HUMAN BEING. I couldn't believe it. Press this or type that, and it was all done. Lets hope we don't have ROBOTS serving the meals. lol lol

Jane, I used to take my children to FOXTON LOCKS some Sunday mornings, to watch the narrow boats going up the flights of locks. I think it might be the largest in the Country. I hope you have a nice restful few days. It will be lovely if Janice and Larry can stay, and enjoy the break together.

The children of the local school have done a stone painted trial along one of the roads, in the village. It looks nice, I don't know if it will be added to in the future.

Much calmer day today. Still a bit windy and cloudy, but nothing like yesterday.

We have half of the chicken over from last night. So Ros will do a Chicken Curry tonight. I will give F & C a miss tonight, as I know the restaurant we are going to tomorrow, do a nice Atlantic Cod and triple cooked chips. So I think that will be me sorted.

U don't think we will see much of the yellow stuff today, but if it stays dry, that will be nice. See you later. xxxx

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Aug 2020 12:27

We have pleanty of the yellow stuff here Frank.

Cars gone in and then I had some toast as I was hngry when I walked back down from the road. I picked four apples off the tree up there and then had a look at the walnut tree but the squirrels have eaten most of them already. then on down our road and picked a pocketfull of Damsons which went in my pocket. So it maybe a damson and apple crumble tomorrow.

I am going to make a quiche this week instead of buying some but tonight should be F & C's as long as they don't run out of batter again.

I am just about to halve some mince that was delivered yesterday as 750g which they sent is two dinners for us if I make a lasagne and a chilli. The cut beef they sent two will make two good pies so I may cook that today and do pies tomorrow then I can make pastry for all of them. sounds like I have a lot on today so I better get going.

Frank

Frank Report 26 Aug 2020 13:45

Still very cloudy here, Give a GOOD BLOW Mel, you might blow some yellow stuff this way.

I have been sitting in the conservatory reading my book. Ros is keeping busy hoovering and dusting around. She has just opened the cabinet door that holds my music bits and bobs, and there are these tiny spiders with long dangle legs. They have just gone out the door. She can't abide spiders.

I think you will find that Spain is exempt from any restrictions on travel. I know Julia (Harvey's wife) is flying back from France on Friday, to beat any lockdown out there. She was thinking of staying until August/September when Harvey drives out for his holiday. Plus she might be needed, if Allison has her Baby.

Where on earth has the morning gone. I was just thinking I was getting peckish, now I know why 1.45 pm. Time for a sarnie and coffee.

See you later. xxxx

Gillx Report 26 Aug 2020 14:21

Afternoon all

Sunny here after a wet start to the day. I've been doing some more sorting, still haven't finished my clothes so will do that later in the week.

No Frank Mr Grumpy's house isn't a council house, so will be cleared by his son and put on the market. His son told OH that there'll be quite a few skips as his dad was a terrible hoarder. I only went into his property once and it was full of all sorts, so it's going to take a long time before it's all cleared.

It sounds like you have lots to do today Mel. I hope your car passes the MOT, ours is due in a few weeks. OH took it to the garage today to have the two front tyres done after having the back ones done last month and he asked them to check the car over incase it needed anything for it's MOT They said it didn't need anything so with a bit of luck it'll pass it's MOT next month.

I hope you have a nice new neighbour Vera.

We're hoping we have a nice neighbour move in to as the neighbour on the other side of us is a bit weird, he even asked OH once if there was any gossip about the neighbours as he'd been away on holiday for a week. OH thought that was a very strange thing to ask. He also has camera's and lights everywhere and every time we go out, he comes out and listens to what we are saying. We don't think he knows we know he's there, but we can hear the door open and then his footsteps. It's all very strange behaviour if you ask me.

Nice to see you Jane, don't worry about reading the posts, it's just nice to see you on here. It'll be lovely to get away for a few days and have some family time relaxing. Hope the weather is nice for you all.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Aug 2020 14:42

We don't have roblems with neighbours as we hav'nt anyone really near us. The new people in oh's old house at the top I have only spoken to once. I think they have a little Dachund but its quite quiet.

Change of menu as I forgot I hav'nt got the car so I think I will do quiche for tonight and cook up the steak for the pies. shame cos it would be nice to get in the garden today but dinners come first.

AnninGlos Report 26 Aug 2020 14:59

Frank as far as I can tell Spain was removed from the exempt list at the end of
July and anyone returning must quarantine for 14 days. As the fines are large it might be best if Conrad checked.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 26 Aug 2020 15:22

Frank, I agree with Ann. Conrad needs to check as the fines for non-compliance are large. If you can, get Julia to check as well as I am sure it was brought in about a week ago that travellers from France have to quarantine on their return.

It’s a real b****r isn’t it, but better safe than sorry.

Afternoon All,

A much calmer day and plenty of the yellow stuff here!

Frank I have to say that I think you will find the ladies are right and travel here from Spain and France now mean 14 days self isolation since 26th July for Spain and 15th August for France. I have looked on euronews for the latest advice and the only exception I can find is for people living here and working in another country AND they travel between the 2 countries at least once a week and evidence would be requested in that case. It is the UK rules that have to be considered when coming into this country. Conrad can fly back to Spain within the 14 day isolation period and those he stays with do not need to self isolate as well unless anyone shows symptoms. Random checks are made and fines can be hefty as Vera says.

Mel I thought I would seal the terracotta pots inside and out with clear varnish first to help stop moisture lifting the paint. I tend to put a plastic pot inside my big heavy pots so I can separate them and remove the smaller pot to make moving them easier so will do that as well as you say and find a deep tray to sit the plastic one on. I'll look a pot out tomorrow and give it a good scrub and let it dry in the conservatory.

The botanical painting session this morning was interesting. We had to collect leaves from the garden, do some sketches and she demonstrated the sequence to us and then we tried it. I was glad she said it is a slow process and that we may only get a little paint on our paper! I found it quite absorbing with the detail though and similar to my slow progress with other paint so I shall do some more!

I still haven't got round to my drawers as I was practising with my camera in the garden this afternoon as that course starts next month.

Vera, the puppy does have sharp claws so trousers will be the order of the day till she's learned her manners! She will soon be growing fast and be strong too but will make a lovely dog. On the subject of men I have to say mine seems to expect meat with every meal! I hope you get some good new neighbours.

My word the nights are drawing in now and getting chilly. Autumn is on it's way!

Forgot to post this earlier so better send it now.

Frank Ann is right read this .

Holidaymakers who visited quarantine-free Gibraltar must now self-isolate after their EasyJet flight was delayed on August 24 and they had to spend a night in Spain.

Holidaymakers who visited quarantine-free Gibraltar must now self-isolate after their EasyJet flight was delayed and they had to spend a night in Spain.
80 holidaymakers were bussed across the border to Cadiz, in Spain.
The holiday destination was axed from the 'safe' list following a huge surge in cases, meaning returning travellers must now self-isolate for 14 days - or face a fine.

Morning all ,

when I igot up for the loo early there was blue sky with striped clouds so I went back to bed for a little while as the shadows were long. When I woke again it was raining and now its niserable and grey. I hope Ann and T have better weather for their special day than we have here.

Now we hav'nt heard from Island for the last couple of days hope she's ok.

Hope you all slept well last night now its cooler.
