Island Report 2 Feb 2021 15:35

Afternoon all

After a damp and drear start here it turned out nice again with some sunshine. Bit chilly to hang about outdoors though.

Anng, what a busy time it is for you. It's good to have a focus at this sad time but do take time to be kind to yourself.
When my mum passed we phoned social services regarding the commode and walking frame, they came quite soon to take them away. They are not the sort of memory anyone wants of their loved one.

I'm sorry I've been a bit remiss with acknowledging photos but I do enjoy seeing them. Love your daffs Annx but your sheep is extra special :-D Mel, your misty car windows are fab, especially the one that looks like a garden - ain't natures own art wonderful? :-D The blue iris' from you and Anng are lovely, I love that intense blue.
Mandys' crochet ear warmer looks complicated - well done, I expect it was gladly received by the owner or the ears :-D
I hope I haven't missed anyone
~~~~~~~~~~back at Vera :-D
I hope you are well Frank :-D
You have made me want roast chicken Mandy! I've put a chicken on my next order now. :-) That's great that Colin is to get his vaccination on Sunday! I had an NHS letter today inviting me to book my vaccination. I said to OH, perhaps they would give me my second one????? lol.
AnnG I think we got half a dozen death certs. It all depends on how many bank/building society accounts, pensions, investments, life insurance, guarantees you have etc Things were very simple with OH's parents as they only had 2 accounts and FIL had a small private pension as well as state pension. The POA people needed one plus the solicitor. I think the Building Society holding their house deeds needed one too. I think some just verify they've seen it in their notes and give it back to you.
Nice to hear from you Island! I wonder how Gill is doing and whether Sandra is settling in ok with her friend.
The Snowdrop picture is slowly progressing, but I need to get ready for tomorrow's early class now. Hubby has proudly said he will get lunch tomorrow (ready meals!). Still, even that means less for me to do so I am grateful. :-)
I see poor Captain Tom Moore has passed away. What a lot to achieve at his great age though. His name will go down in the history books!
Yes Ann we think five is enough. No solicitor needed according to daughter, no investment, and most will return the carts fairly quickly, no rush very simple will.
Morning Anng and all,
Some sunshine this morning but what it will be like later I do'nt know OOOOO Its now pouring as I type!! Where did the sun go????
Hope you got on ok at the funeral directors Anng. That will be another good job out of the way and you're doing fine.
Think I had 5 certs for mum as she had a couple of building societys and savings and two banks I found out in the end.
Nothing planned for today so hope I may be able to have a play.
How to go from nice to horrible in 10 seconds.
Oh came into the kitchen and said to me " I must admit you brought sweetness into my life" I thought how nice. Then he said "Even if it was just that packets of wine gums" I think he is getting like G Ann.
Frank Report 3 Feb 2021 11:38
Good morning all, Brightish sort of morning here. Ros has changed the bed, Sheets all washed and in the Tumble Dryer. She is in the garden now doing a bit more tidying up, she can always find something to do out there.
I had another terrible nights sleep. I've got my dear old Dad on my mind. Friday will be the anniversary of his burial. I'm always pleased to get these few days out of the way. I can then start to look forward to SPRING. We have Crocus and Snowdrops out in the front and back garden. They look so nice.
Fish & Chip man tonight, Ros won't have any as she doesn't like FISH. She will make something from the fridge.
All good here, and the weather forecast is rain later. So Ros will only have a short time to get a few jobs done.
I am still waiting for the people to come and put a rail for me to hold onto, so as I can get down onto the lawn. I suppose with this COVID, it's putting everything like these jobs on the :BACK BURNER"I expect they will get round to it in their own sweet time. I am also waiting to hear when I am doing to get my electric scooter . It seems ages since they said I will be getting one.
I am going to try to finish my book today. I have collection of around 8 to choose from when I start a new one.
Stay safe, and I hope everyone is O,K. xxxx
Afternoon all
You and I are a right pair Frank with not sleeping. I had a terrible night as well. I’ve not been a good sleeper since my twenties but I’m getting worse and worse. Right now I’ve got an almighty headache and I can’t stop yawning. It’s fine to be thinking of your Dad but try and think of the good things and memories that make you smile. That’s what I do with my Mum and Dad who both died in February as did a favourite aunt and now we have my brother’s funeral on Monday. I hate February but I just have to grit my teeth and get on with it.
This morning I’ve given our new wood floor a thorough clean. When it was laid I was given a mop thingie and a bottle of wood cleaner and told to use them once a month. It’s been down two months now so I thought I had better do it. It was easy to do but I had to do it in 3 lots as I moved all the furniture to one side, then the other. Luckily it dried almost immediately.
I’m not sure yet what I’ll do this afternoon. I might write a bit more of my Russian saga. Yesterday I dug out a bag of guidebooks and other bits and pieces from Russia and had a real find. It was only a biro but it was the last thing my Dad bought me himself before his dementia got too bad and I was really upset when I thought I had lost it. So I was a happy bunny when I found it :-)
I hope you got on OK talking to the funeral directors AnnG and have started getting your arrangements in place. It was fairly easy for us in that my brother had told us exactly what he wanted so we have only had to think how we could best carry out his wishes.
Preparing lunch has become OH’s job recently and he has just arrived with it - a sandwich of pate and rocket, a couple of small tomatoes and a cake. I’ve got some cod out of the freezer for tonight.
Well the suns gone and we just had a really heavy shower.
Fishing sandwiches for lunch here.
Thats another good thing sorted Anng your getting there with all the things you have done. How long is your daughter staying with you?
Frank your bad night makes up for the couple of good ones you've had over the past couple of days. Enjoy your F & Cs tonight. I think we will have chilli but I hav'nt made my mind up yet.
Afternoon all,
Nice dry day so Colin has been out doing a bit of presser washing and I've been doing a little cutting back and pulling some weeds up .
Your getting there AnnG I think there's a lot of funerals that are live streamed now with all that's going on ,Florence funeral was yesterday she was buried with her husband and son they had got the plots together in the old cemetery as we now have a new cemetery just out of town.
I hope to be able to go to Mole Valley some time as they have the seed compost and multi purpose compost buy one get one free,just need to go early when it's quiet.
We have a butchers delivery tomorrow ,son had some meat from them and said how good it was so he's ordered a stay at home pack for us and it should be here tomorrow.
Afternoon all
It's a bit damp and grey here again but can't complain as it's gone 4.30 and still light!
Mel, 'wine gums' made me laugh :-D I sometimes think my fella has raided a Christmas cracker factory and nicked the jokes LOL
Had a moment today. Time for a cuppa, I emptied the teapot and thought he'd had an s.m. and made clear tea. :-S I'd picked up the kettle instead of the teapot! LOL
At least I have an excuse, it's a bit dark in tea tray corner. :-D
Mel Fairy Godmother
Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Feb 2021 18:08
My oh often makes himself a clear coffee Island as our kettle in in the dark corner of the kitchen. Must own up to lifting to pour the kettle into a cup and picked up the filter jug by mistake. So you're not alone in these silly things we do. It happens more if oh is nattering on too. Ann will know what I mean.
I got some mince out of the freezer for the chilli tonight. went and did something else and came back in the kitchen and could'nt find the mince. Went back in the uti room to see if I had left it in there and no so looked around the kitchen and still it was nowhere to be seen. Thinking I must have gone really potty now I retraced my steps from the freezer to the kitchen once again looked in the micro and then remembered I had weighed it and there it was sitting the the scales. Talk about s.m. thats the biggest one I have had for a while. :-(
MillymollyAmanda Report 3 Feb 2021 18:32
Oh dear there is some senior moments going on today :-D
I got out into the front garden after lunch and had a bit of a hoe couldn't do to much as I didn't want to disturb the bulbs coming through.
I have been hunting every where for one of my pastry cutters ,the large cutter of the three, i used it at Christmas and seem to remember it falling some where and thinking i'll pick it up later but where it was goodness only knows , just hope it wasn't in the bin it will probably turn up in the most unlikely place , but in the mean time I think I'll have to buy another set ,then you can be sure it will turn up.
