Frank Report 20 Nov 2019 11:04

Good morning all, I thought I had better pop in to stop you worrying.

I found a nice big bruise and scab on my right shoulder last night. The eyes are back to normal size, but there is still a BIG BRUISE under the right eye. Ros will have a lot of explaining to do. lol lol.

I have a hairdressers appointment for 2.45 this afternoon. then on to our eatery in the same area. So no cooking tonight.

Sorry girls, I haven't been keeping up to date with the thread. In fact just sitting here for a few minutes, is making my eyes fell sore.

Ros was at the Drs. at 10.00 am Then onto the Hospital with a little present for the nurse, who has been looking after her "water works" and treatment. She is moving to the Cancer unit next week.

Off for a shower and shave. Then a rest for my eyes, until we go out later.

Take care of yourselves, and I will try to pop back later. xxxx

Morning Frank and all,

Another dry day here but there is a wind today and the sky is one mass of grey but lightish grey.

Oh let me lie in this morning which I was'nt pleased about as it HW day if I ever get round to anyithout getting side tracked. I have four more pencil wands to paint too so can easily go off on the wrong track.

The stands oh bought me are great and the wands and pencil wands fit on them well and will be better than the mug of rice I put them in last year but will take up a bit more room on the table. I don't think I will take the pagan stuff to the fair but may have a word about putting some on the Shebbear site where you can sell things.

Morning Frank, Mel and all....just

Another dry day today with no frost, so that's made it warmer.

How is your throat and cough today Ann, I hope it's feeling a little better for you? I recorded the first Repair Shop and the second one so we'll probably watch those today. I have it on a series link on Sky so I don't miss any. I was lucky as I noticed it starting a few seconds before it came on, so was able to put them all on my planner just in time. We've been watching Cold Call which seems good so far. Good news about your hearing and teeth, they could of been a lot worse couldn't they? Did you see on the TV a quick way to make pom pom's the woman had two peg like things anchored to a piece of wood and wound the wool tightly around them to make a long loop of lots of wool, then she tied bits of smaller wool at intervals along the loop of wool, pom pom size then cut in between so she ended up with lots of pom poms in one go, it was very quick. I thought it was a great idea. It was off the programme Money for Nothing. It's on before the Repair Shop. At least i think that's what it's called, where the woman gets other people's rubbish they are throwing away at the tip and makes them into something else, sells it for a profit and gives the profit to the person she got it off in the first place. I think it was yesterday's programme. Maybe you could Google it and watch how she made lots of pom poms in one go. I hope that all made sense lol :-S :-S :-D It would be handy to watch if you have a lot of pom poms to make.

You were lucky you sorted out the wire in your car Mandy, it might of ended up being very dangerous had it not been spotted and repaired. The picture etch you mentioned we have bought Sandra in the past and she loves them. Pleased to see you managed to change Katie's box for a Frozen one.

I wish we had a Christmas market by us, the one you went to AnnG sounds just the type of thing I'd like to go to.

I qualify for the gold star Vera as I got to the end of your post lol :-D :-D :-D Hope something can be done for your OH's eye, it mustn't be very nice not being able to see properly.

Hope your eye heals soon for your Frank, it sounds like all the bruising is coming out now, so it shouldn't be to long then you can have your laser treatment on the other eye. That was nice of Ros to buy a little gift for the nurse, she's very thoughtful isn't she?

How are you getting on with all your craft making Mel, it's not long now to the Craft Fair, did you say it was the 6th December? I think that's what you said.

OH found out the date of his friends birthday the other day, it's towards the end of January so we don't need to give him his birthday present at the same time we give him his Christmas present now. He said not to waste our money on him, but we don't see it as a waste, we just like to give him a little something with him not having any family, otherwise he'd have nothing to open on Christmas day or his birthday. He still said no to coming to ours on Christmas Day, he said he likes to have a quiet day listening to his radio. We'll keep asking him each year though, you never know he may eventually say yes. It feels a bit like the film SCROOGE. lol.

When I was going through OH's family tree last night, comparing it with the one I've got access to, I noticed I've missed some people so I'm going to copy those over today then watch The Repair Shop before Junior Bake off comes on.

Going to drink my cuppa first before it goes cold.

Good afternoon Mel, frank and Gill and everyone else. A cold grey day here, quite raw with a cold wind. Wish we didn't have to go out but it is the U3A main meeting this afternoon.

Frank good to only pop on here for short times, that way we know you are ok and you are not straining your eyes. I am sure you have not missed anything imprtant by not reading back.

Vera I got to the end of your post as well last night. You had a really busy day. I had one of 'your' nights last night clock watched until 5 before dropping off. Brain was busy working out everything that has to be done before the family come on Friday.

Mel, good luck with your stall tonight. Hope you make a good bit.

gill. I can imagine me trying to make lots of pom poms and ending up with a tamgle of wool!! And now you have found yet more names to add to OH's tree, it must be huge. I bet it would take some printing out!

The craft fair up the village is on the 5th December. Its always on the first Thursday in December I was told by Em.

I did add a few people to my tree the other day. I have nobody to pass my tree on too which is a shame after all the work I put into it.

Gillx

Gillx Report 20 Nov 2019 16:11

I wasn't far off with the craft fair date then Mel, are you almost ready with all your makes or have you got more to do? Yes it is a shame not having anyone to pass the tree onto, especially, like you say, after all the hard work involved. I'm the same as I doubt anyone I know would keep it going, which is why I'm doing it for OH's and my pleasure rather than anyone else's, although if anyone contacts me I've got lots of information that might be of some use to another Genes member, so it's not all bad.

Yes AnnG, the tree is quite big, a lot bigger than OH thought it would be. He had no idea how many more relatives/ancestors he had. I think I'm almost done now, copying over everything from the tree match, then I'll need to go through it again to see if I can find any more people. That's the thing with a family tree, it's never really finished is it?

It just keeps growing Gill.

Painted 4 more wand pencils and two dragon eggs and based three small eggs. I should be able to silver and gold the wands tonight but I lie to paint while I have sunshine and day light. O yes the sun came out today in the end but still very windy which dried the washing nicely.

Bin day tomorrow so I shall take them up when I go for the fish and chips.

Ah Mel, jus re-read your post of 20. 11 at 00.06 and this is what you wrote that I misinterpreted.
"I've had a sort through my craft box for the fair tonight " you sorted through your craft box "tonight" and I read it as "for the fair tonight".

Just heard that the son of one of our neighbours (I used to work with her), who was once upon a time our paper boy, has died suddenly aged 38, They don't know what the cause is and won't probably know until early next year. How sad. Not seen him for ages so not sure if he still lived in the area. Her husband (not his father) came to tell us, always seems so much worse just before Christmas.

I have all the details of our family trees in lever arch binders with photos and certificates etc Four binders altogether. I am hoping somebody in the family will feel guilty and take them on after I die. The worst scenario would be if we had to downsize. don't know who I would get to take them then.

Also just heard, on a happier note, that out fourth (23 year old) Grandson who graduated this year, and who is at present volunteering in a school in Guatemala has been accepted for a teaching job (teaching English as a foreign language) in Beijing. He has a one year contract from February 2020 to January 2021.

O thats nice AnnG you must be very proud of him and his parents must be too.

I see now how you thought it was today. They do the fair at the end of the school term and Father Christmas is always there for the children and they make a lovely grotto for him to see the children in. Em usually helps set it up.

Just a quickie as mum's here.

Your parcel has just arrived Vera, Sandra said to say thank you, you are so kind. I've put her present away with her other's and Sandra took the birthday card to give back to me on Saturday.

I'll catch up with the post later

AnninGlos Report 21 Nov 2019 13:08

Good afternoon all, what a nasty cold, windy, grey although dry day. I much prefer the frosty sunny days. Out there it is so cold it is like January. We seem to have lurched completely into winter. OH is clearing up loads of leaves that come into our garden from the bungalow over the back. I wish the people who planted it had not put it so close to the fence. All the leaves blow this way, don't think any land in their garden, and we do lop off any branches that hang this way too. We get the blossom when that fall and then the leaves it is such a nuisance.

This morning we did the Tesco shop. gosh, it does make a difference shopping for four and two halves instead of for two. Still it is all put away now and we should be ok. Luckily they have asked for pasta with tomato sauce for Saturday as that is what the boys eat and I will do Chicken for Sunday lunch. Friday they don't need feeding.

I have started on clearing everything away but most of it can be done tomorrow morning now, I don't want to clear this room too soon as I won't then be able to use my main PC.

thanks for the good wishes for James, yes we are very proud of him and proud that he is actually using his degree, so many don't.

Afternoon all,

Quite a dull old day here today and very chilly too, we nipped out to the tip and got rid of three tubs of garden rubbish and called at Tesco's for some bits and pieces .

Very well done to your grandson AnnG on getting the teaching job you must all so proud of him ,he's getting to see the world and doing a job i'm sure he will love .
That's very sad about your neighbours son dying so young and as you said it seems so much worse at this time of year .

Oh Mel hope that cold soon eases up for you ,you don't want it lingering on so you miss out on the craft fair, you must have a good lot of things to sell now ,can you send us a photo of the stall with all your things once you've set it all up i'd love to see it .

Frank hope your keeping those eyes rested .

Chicken curry for us tonight ,i usually use some chicken breast but i have some cooked chicken left over from the roast we had so i'm going to use that up in the curry instead so it will be nice and easy .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Nov 2019 15:04

Mandy, that is what we had last night. OH doesn't cook except for a fry up - he is good at those and a curry cooked from cold meat, usually chicken so that is what he did last night.

Annx Report 21 Nov 2019 17:05

Afternoon All,

I've just lost 2 posts.....so annoying!

The sore throat is improving but I woke up at 7.00am with a cough! Not a dry one though, so that is a good sign for me. No Sneezing or head cold like OH, so I think it must be something I picked up with sitting at the Doctors' for over an hour on Monday. I've been gargling with salty water to see if that will help as the dentist told me that it kills bacteria, so I thought every little may help.

Mel I hope your cold is better in time for the Fair so you can enjoy it. I also hope Frank and Ros's coughs are getting better. What a sickly bunch some of us are!
I find using smaller plates helps with portion sizes too Mel as the plate still looks full! lol

Mandy I'm glad the wiring was easily sorted and that you have the fan back now. It's good you got the box swapped for Katie too! Isn't it nice when you have an undemanding, easy meal to get! :-D

Vera I am lucky in that OH doesn't snore, but he did used to have 'night terrors' from childhood and through his first marriage and when we first got together. He would violently leap out of bed taking the duvet with him and run up the hall shouting as some 'imaginary thing' chased him or be fighting it off! Not easy to get back to sleep after that! :-0

Gill I have the progs on Sky link now too. I googled the pompoms and found the method you mentioned on youtube. It is a quick way to do them but I think I'd better finish my wreath with the method I'm using so they look the same. Thanks for saying about it though as it would be worth a try if I do something else with them.

Well done your grandson AnnG! He must be so chuffed! I expect his volunteering work on his CV will have impressed and helped too. :-) I never sleep well when I have to be up early the next day. It seems once our minds are trying to remember things we can't sleep! What a shame about your neighbour's son. It's so young to die....do you know if he had family?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Nov 2019 18:00

I have glued the two big dragons eggs and gave them their final paint so now all thats left to do is the gold on the glue.

That must have been a big shop Anng for all the 4 and two halves, hope the cupboards were big enough to get it all away.

Hark at you lot having to take garden rubbish down the tip. I just let our blow away around the garden. I don't cut the perenniels down till the spring as I feel it gives them a bit of winter cover. Anyway I'd be out there all day every day.

Wonder how Frank is today and our Jane. We hav'nt heard from either of them.

Got a tray bake in th eoven just carrots parsnips onions mushrooms and a couple of new pots and I am about to chuck the chicken in now and make some stuffing. Nice and easy.

What a cheeky chap your owl is Ann. He'll be glad to get a mate next week.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 21 Nov 2019 18:16

The curry was very nice but i must admit i do cheat by using a jar of curry sauce ,i have made my own curry but as son will tell you when he lived at home they are a bit on the VERY HOT side :-D son likes a hot curry but even he couldn't eat it :-D

Ann i love the Owl :-D he's so cute and i love the little heart button for his beak :-D
Did you have a pattern for him or just cut him out freehand ?
That's good the sore throat is easing ,not so good that you now have a cough though.
Colin's sister always use to say gargle with salt water ,in fact she said to use it for so many things her hubby use to say she must have shares in the salt mines :-D
Those night terrors must have been quite frightening for you and awful for OH
I go into the spare bed some times as Colin can snore for England and Max is not far behind :-D
I had a dreadful nights sleep last night laid awake for ages and when i did drop off i was dreaming all sorts ,one minute i was on a bus that wouldn't stop ,then swimming with my sister in the sea with our clothes on and i had my watch on so i took it off and gave it to a stranger and she them passed it on to some one called Ian who i then had to hunt for in a shop !!! all very odd.

Oh i meant to say DIL was offered a job today at her doctors surgery, she had the interview yesterday ,it's just a little cleaning job ,three hours a day so that will give her a little money of her own .
She now has to change doctors as she isn't allowed to work there and be registered there so son rang the doctors where he and we are registered and she and the children can now all register there so that sorted that out .
