When you go to the car wash again Ann can I come please lol ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D

Pleased to see you had a good nights sleep, I had one to and it does make you feel much better the following day doesn't it? We have air con in the car but OH said it takes up to much petrol so he doesn't use it, normally just having the windows open cools the car down and he only does short trips at the moment so he's not in the hot car for to long.

It's 31 degrees in the kitchen but only 26.5 in the hall, which I find strange as the sun is in the hall and not in the kitchen. It could have something to do with us putting the kettle on quite a few times so far today, or it could be the hot air coming in through the open kitchen door. Either way it's hot hot hot here today. Hopefully my washing won't take to long to dry then I can make the beds up and have a cool bath.

The lawns need cutting but OH said it's to hot to do it today, which I agree with, so they are going to have to wait until it cools down. I've got a bit of a headache with the heat so I've just taken a painkiller which seems to be working and I'm back in front of the fan again. Sandra is watching a programme I recorded for her as it didn't record on her system. We think her aerial has moved a bit in the wind so it's not picking up some of her channels. OH will sort it out once he's allowed to climb on the roof. He sees the surgeon again soon so hopefully he'll give him the all clear and he can get back to some of the jobs he wants to do, so long as he doesn't do to much to soon. I've found some more people for OH's tree so that's coming along nicely and gives me something to do while I wait for the washing to dry.

Morning all

Boy, it’s hot. I feel a bit like a candle gradually melting into a pool of wax. It looked a bit breezier out there so I put on sun cream and a big hat and ventured into the garden. I only did some very gentle deadheading but I could only stand it for 20 mins before I had to come in. Our kitchen is a surprisingly cool room but the temperature in there is showing as 30 deg.

I was supposed to be meeting friends for coffee as usual on Thursdays but I have cried off. I can’t be bothered to drag myself round town today. I had to go into town at 11.30 yesterday and came back with a thumping headache from the sun and humidity.

I had to go yesterday to pick up some forms from our travel insurance people that the doctor had to fill in. The docs have had them for over 3 weeks so I was glad to get them back. Now I can get our claim in and hopefully get at least some of our money back.

It’s a shame your shower still isn’t working Frank. In this weather you could really do with a working shower. I hope you can get it fixed soon. Hopefully the doctor has been able to reassure Ros about the lump and bruise on her arm.

Good luck with all your show entries Mel. I had to google Tinners Rabbits as I had never heard of them.

AnninG, what a performance with your meds. Everything seems to run very smoothly here though I used to have a lot of problems when my prescription was handled by Boots. I moved it to Lloyd’s a couple of years ago and have had no trouble since. About once a year the pharmacist has a general chat with me and about once a year I have a review with the doctor.

Gill, it’s good news that your telly isn’t going to cost you too much. I know you like to watch quite a lot of programmes with Sandra so you wouldn’t want to be without it. Good job that you’ve got other sets in your bedrooms. We both like certain programmes but don’t really watch a lot of TV so we’ve never bothered with Sky. I can’t keep up with all the programmes on Freeview so I’d never cope with even more channels. It’s great that you are finding so much information for OH’s tree. It’s a very addictive hobby isn’t it? I am sure you know this already but make certain you check and check again and again. It can be very disheartening to have to delete a whole tree and start again because something was wrong. I know, because I have done it.

Jorge really has settled in well Jane and Jilly looks as though she has accepted him completely. How old is Jilly? How are you managing in this heat? I keep thinking of you in those stockings. I should think they are quite uncomfortable to wear when it’s hot.

Well, I had better see if I can find something useful to do that won’t require any energy and can be done indoors. We’re promised storms again this afternoon and overnight so perhaps that will freshen everything up a bit.

Yes Gill!!! ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D They are a sight for sore eyes and so polite compared with a lot of the English! I noticed they have a fridge in the part where they dry the cars off and it was full of cold drinks. :-D

We have 3 tvs and sky on all of them. There is another tv in the study but didn't really use it so dropped sky on that one when we renewed our contract. It will be good to get yours back again Gill as I can't believe how we managed with the little portables now, but we did. Your hubby is right about aircon costing more fuel than windows down, but only at slow speeds apparently, which let's face it is all we can manage locally on our busy roads. I do miss my little cabriolet in this weather when I could just lift the roof back and let all the heat out in a few seconds.

Mel you have a good selection of things for the show, so best wishes for success with them. Did you have a tot of the gin to see how it has matured? :-D I bet the Koi pool is nice and cool. Have you been sitting on the edge with your feet dangling your toes or are they a bit big for gentle nibbles now?

Vera, I'm not surprised you gave up on the garden after 20 minutes. The air is so heavy and hot. I changed the bed earlier and was boiling afterwards so have given up now and am sitting by a fan.

Did you see The Works Live Craft Video on FB at 11.30am AnnG? I thought it was going to be about all kinds of crafts but it seemed to be all about card making.

Mandy is certainly getting the weather to use her pool this year. I bet the children have been wanting to come round all the time!

Jane, Jorge has settled in and hit it off with Gilly straightaway hasn't he! How nice for him to find a home with a ready made playmate and best pal! I keep wondering how thos stockings must be in this weather too. I'd be tempted to have Chri's wellies on and plunge my feet in a bowl of cold water.

Love the picture of Jorge and Jilly Jane, they look hot though and poor jilly having jorge laying on her, she must be even hotter. It's nice they are friendly with each other. Hope you're not to hot today in your stockings, I think you're getting the rain first so it should cool down soon.

We've just had a bit of a shower of rain but it didn't amount to anything, luckily I'd just brought in the washing......talk about good timing.

Let me know when you're having your car washed again Ann and I'll be there lol ;-) ;-)

The works Live Craft video sounds right up your street and AnnG's to. I don't pay for the second Sky on the bedroom TV as I have it connected via a wire, it does mean that I can only watch what someone else is watching in the living room, but that never happens as we only watch one TV at a time. It's handy, not to mention cheaper, doing it this way as we can watch TV in bed if we fancy, rather than sitting on the sofa in the winter, it's much warmer that way and more comfortable too. Sandra has her own TV with a freeview box she records her programmes on, so we're all happy.

I don't blame you for only doing 20 minutes in your garden Vera, I struggled watering the greenhouse and it was only a few minutes. Good idea to cry off seeing your friends today you don't want a headache. I had one this morning when I was standing in the sun pegging the washing out, but thankfully it's gone now after taking something for it. Good luck with your travel insurance forms, I hope you get a refund. How is your OH today, I hope he's still improving and managing his walks each day.

Yes, we were pleased with the price of fixing the TV, I said to OH if we had to buy a new one you could probably add a zero to the £68 for a decent one nowadays, so we're lucky it could be fixed at such a good price.

Has anyone got the rain yet, I thought I'd ask as I've just had a bath and have another load of washing to put out on the line, I think it's starting in the midlands area then making it's way up here so I'd like to know if I have time for the washing to dry. The washing machine is almost finished. The sun is out again now, but it seemed to cool down a bit when the clouds came over.

Gillx Report 25 Jul 2019 15:36

It's just started thundering here so I've brought all the washing in, half of it was dry so it's only a few towels and OH's jeans and t-shirt that weren't dry. No lightening yet but I'm expecting it and it's not raining yet either. Everywhere has gone very dark though so I think we may have the rain shortly.

No rain here. stifling in here at the moment 32 degrees outside and we have just had to shut all the windows as the window cleaner has just turned up, that is £15 we had not reckoned on!!

Vera I have not even ventured out to do anything in the garden I have stayed in my room which is reasonably cool (with the windows open) and have made 9 easy cards for the charity box. they are mounting up in there. Shall have to get them down to my friend soon.

No Ann I didn't watch the Works live video, I had seen it was on but was doing something else at the time. I am not too good following instructions I prefer to do my own thing.

Jane loved the photo of jorge, he looks really at home doesn't he?

It's gone hotter than before here, the bungalow is back up to 27.5 degrees and it's even hotter outside. The rain didn't come to anything and we just had thunder no lightening, which to be honest I was grateful of no lightening when they said we may end up with a power cut. The washing went back outside and now it's all dry. I changed the beds today to, but they'll probably need doing again tomorrow.

I'm so sorry to hear how hot it is by you Jane, 45 degrees is an impossible heat to live with. Could you have a cool shower that would help and sit in front of a fan. I hope it cools down soon. Drink plenty of water.

Hope your windows weren't shut for to long AnnG, that's the last thing you need when it's 32 degrees outside.

Looking forward to seeing the picture of you and your OH with halo's Mel. Pleased to hear it's not to hot where you are.

I've just been watching the baby elephants at Chester Zoo on the news enjoying the water being sprayed all over them, they were having such fun.

At the moment we are at panic stations as our freezer alarm has gone off. Not defrosted yet and we are not sure what is happening. It is a wait and see situation.

Just had some thunder and lightening but only a few spots of rain. Chris is out with the hosepipe. We are both grumpy bums today, and it is just to do with the heat.

Oh AnnG have you lowered the temp setting in the freezer? Might be an idea. I hope it doesn't pack up and you don't lose your food. Is it a big freezer?

Ann, you little minx eyeing up the slim hipped young men at the carwash :-D :-D Nice to see they had plenty of cold drinks on hand. I see it is going to be about 10 degrees lower tomorrow here. I might need a coat ;-) ;-).

Mel I really should have just stuck my feet in cold water with the socks on. I do have 3 pairs . My last injection in my tummy tonight :-D :-D. That will be a relief and then the bruises will start to go :-D

Annx Report 25 Jul 2019 19:13

What a thing to happen on a hot day like today AnnG. It might be worth putting a blanket or duvet over it to help. I gave up on the craft video in the end as it seemed to be an advertising wheeze for The Works.

Mel they might even have their T shirts off now for us!! ;-) ;-) :-0 :-0 lol. I wish I was with you and your 27 degrees with a breeze.

We have had 2 showers each today up to now. We went outside to see if there was any breeze this afternoon and couldn't believe how much hotter it was than inside which was 31 degrees. I went in the greenhouse and topped up the tomato and cue pots with water as the cue was wilting and couldn't get out again fast enough! We have had ice lollies and fizzy drinks out of the fridge and just flopped around. It's hard to think it is supposed to be 10 degrees cooler tomorrow..

Fingers crossed we put a whole drawer plus a bit in next doors freezer lucky they had space and it seems as though it might be working ok. It is vulnerable as we keep it in the conservatory so with excessive temps there is possibility of a problem this is the second freezer we have had here but only the second problem in 27 years.

No storms here yet but I wish the weather would break as I am really struggling now. Our kitchen temperature is now showing 34 and that’s by no means the hottest room in the house. Should be a bit cooler tomorrow, they reckon about 27 here.

I hope your freezer is OK Ann. Fingers crossed that it’s just a blip. Our window cleaners turned up today as well and I had to dash around closing doors and windows. £20 for us.

I’m not optimistic about getting much sleep tonight. I think it will be so hot and sticky that I’ll probably fall asleep when it’s nearly time to get up. I’d better set an alarm as we have to be out early tomorrow. OH has got a physiotherapy appointment at 8.30 am.

Right, I had better go and water a few pots. Hope you all get a decent night’s sleep.

I hope you're freezer is ok and it was just the heat that was making the alarm go off.

It cooled right down this evening as it clouded over. I went up and got F & C for sinner so no cooking for me.

My washing I put on he line this morning was dry 20mins later when the next lot went out! I hope its not too dry to iron as most of it is my cotton shirts. I have to wear something on my arms or I come up in spots and I don't like wearing sun tan lotion s it makes me feel closed in. I have strange skin..........bit like the rest of me really.

Jane thats what I meant for you to put your stockened feet iin the pool they would be nice and cool then.

Going to watch the rest of Escape to the Chateau now.

We don't expect to sleep much tonight either as there is no breeze yet and it is stll so hot!!! If it isn't a lot cooler tomorrow I shall give beading a miss!

Your eyes should be much better tomorrow Frank. Poor OH always has to have 2 lots of those drops in his eyes as his pupils don't dilate. I don't know how he found his way out of the hospital on his own last year when I couldn't walk all the way to the eye department with him.

Good news on your TV repair Gill, and the cost. Much cheaper than getting a new telly. Yes I always expect to be told things are obsolete and the parts can't be got.

I hope your freezer is still ok in the morning AnnG. It sounds like it just had to work too hard with the heat.

Frank

Frank Report 26 Jul 2019 11:09

First on today. !!! Good morning all,

Was in bed NO ON TOP, at 9.30 pm didn't try to read, and was off to sleep quite quickly. Woke at 2.00 am absolutely baking hot. Didn't manage to get back to sleep so got up at 5.00 for Cup of tea.

Eyes are better this morning, how nice to be able to see everything. It makes you understand how difficult it must be for the people with sight problems. It's the first time the opticians have put drops in my eyes, I always have them every six months, at the hospital.

The choir rehearsal went off well last night. The only trouble was, there is scaffolding all around the church and some of the pews are covered in Plastic. This is due to Roof repairs, after last years leaking roof. Ros thinks they will have to remove the plastic today, to accommodate the public tonight, They have sold over 100 tickets all in aid of the BRITISH LEGION. So that at least £1,000.00 for their funds. GREAT. !!

I don't know if Ros is on Statins Mel, I know she has to take 16 tablets every day, which she hates, but needs. Where I am lucky, only having to take 12. !!!

Conrad called last night. Both Jo and Kerry (Jan's daughters) have been out to Spain. Kerry went home on Wednesday with Alexander. So it now leaves him, Jan and Ella there, until Ella wants to go home, or when Jan has had enough of her. lol lol.

NO RAIN HERE YET. But very HUMID and overcast. The lawns badly need cutting. Barry should be here today or tomorrow, so that will tidy them up. RINGO hasn't been to repair the steps on the front or back of the bungalow. The ones out of the conservatory are really lose, and rattle about when you step on them. Fortunately when I had my STROKE, the Council put a very sturdy handrail out there, so I make sure we hold on to that, when going down the steps. I don't like to remind him, as he is a very busy man, and working in this heat, can't be pleasant.

What are you up to today folks, ?? I am going to sit on the patio, while there is a breeze, then if it rains (as promised) it will be in the armchair, with my book. HOW BORING !!!

I trust you are all well and hearty, xxxx
