Morning All,

I was still awake when the thunder and lightning started here. It must have been about 1.30am. It wasn't for long though and just a short sharp shower of rain. Then I slept like a log with just a sheet over me and no need for the fan. I did have a quite cold shower last thing though and soaked my hair through. As expected with it still being quite damp after it is kinky and sticking up all over the place now till I shower before we go out for lunch. We are going to the old manor today as they have aircon! :-D

I did think about jet washing the patio this morning as it is in shade at the moment but OH talked me out of it saying I would still be sweltering after a few minutes and it will only be getting hotter, so I'm staying indoors to do some paperwork instead! One job I must do today is wash the filters on the hoovers as they will dry so fast in this weather. There is another load of washing too. I never seem to catch up with everything these days and to think when I retired I thought I would breeze through all the jobs with having all that extra time that I used to be working!

Frank Report 24 Jul 2019 11:16

Good morning all you fair maidens. xxx

That storm was a real "blinder" We had opened the BIG WINDOW, which I don't usually do, being a bungalow, you never know who's about !!!. The rain came down in torrents, around 3.00 am.I was worried it would come in the open window and soak everywhere. So I put on the light to see my way round the bed, to pull the window to. Of course I woke Madam, who wasn't to pleased, but she soon went off again, more than could be said for me I had had three hours sleep, so wasn't tired, laid until 6.00 am and got up. Everywhere is so HUMID.

Ros and Carolyn have gone off for their shopping trip, and wherever they decide to go. which knowing them, could be Milton Keynes or Rushen Lakes. I will see them, when I see them ;-) ;-) ;-)

I had a new shower head and bits turn up this morning, I only ordered them yesterday, so thats a job for me to do.The old shower head keeps falling out of the attachment on the sliding pole. If you know what I mean. So all should be fine again.

There is enough lasagne to fed Ros and I and enough for Tony, if he wants any. I am not one for having the same meal two days running, BUT as you say it will save me cooking.

Ros has to take me back to the opticians tomorrow, for the drops to go in my eyes, and have photo's taken, behind my eyes. The hospital do it everytime I go for my check ups, so I'm surprised that the opticians want to do it also.

Ros has given Carolyn a list of all her appointments for the hospital, over the next 8 weeks.Plus she has an MRI to be done, I think early next week. The Doctor is trying to find if there is anything they can do, to relieve her from this constant pain in her back and left leg.We both know that after FOUR major operations on her back, there is little they can do. The specialist told her a couple of years ago, that he knew of no surgeon, who would be prepared to risk another operation on her back. So it looks like we will have to live with it.

I haven't been through the posts, so just hope you are all well, and enjoying this weather. STAY SAFE. in this sunshine. !!!! xxxxx

Morning all,

We have cloudy skies here this morning and its not so hot thanks goodness. I think the sun is just trying to break through now.

I have to sort lots of things for the show today and get my things in by 8pm tonight.

Sorry you were kept awake with the thunder last night. It only lasted a little while here but I could still see the lightening in the distance and as AnnG said it was sheet lightening. It rained for a while and did the garden good a the lawns are very wet this morning. Oh had a bad night but I slept like a baby after shopping yesterday.

Morning all

Another hot day, OH and Sandra have just nipped out so I've sorted a TV in the living room. The spare one we had, the control doesn't work so Sandra has that now as she can use her control for her set top box so she's not bothered that she can't turn the volume up and down on the TV control. We need a control to work because we have a set top box and Sky connected to the same TV so we need to switch between them. I know the TV Sandra had works with both which is why I swapped them over before they went out but I need to try and remember how to swap between the set top box and Sky now. At the moment I've got Sky working on it, which is what we watch the most. The screen is tiny compared to our old TV as it's only a portable one, so we're going to have to buy a new TV. At least we have one in the living room now, so we don't have to watch TV in our bedroom during the day.

Next door has just cut his hedge, well it's our hedge but we took the branches off on our side and put up the screening. When he started I had to dash in here to turn the water feature off, the last thing we need is parts of the hedge going through the pump. He's finished now so the water feature is back on.

Looking at all the posts I see the storm made it's way up here through the night, we had it about 2am, luckily we were still up, but one flash of lightening and clap of thunder was right above us and gave Sandra and I a shock, you should of seen us jump. OH wasn't in the room so we called him in. We finally got to sleep around 3am after the storm had finished and we'd all calmed down enough to sleep. We had a massive downpour of rain which the garden's loved, even though OH had watered it. The extra water would do them more good than anything with the strong sun we've got again today.

I did really well on OH's tree yesterday and put around 40 new people on or maybe more. I'm not sure where I'm up to now, so will have to have a look before I carry on, so I don't miss anyone out on the part I was on yesterday.

Talking about your hair being all over the place after you washed it Ann reminded me of a caption I saw on the Internet. It was of an orangutan with it's hair all stuck up and the caption read "I love my pillow it gives me a different hair style every morning" It did make me laugh. :-D :-D

What things are you taking to show Mel? Hope it's not to hot when you take it
down there.

That was quick the shower bits turning up Frank, be careful sorting it out we don't want you having any accidents.

Hope it's not to hot when you go to the hairdressers Mandy and Jane. You'll enjoy gong in the pool today Mandy, I do envy you.

No Jane I don't think it was a bug, I had some ham the other day and thought it tasted a bit funny, but instead of throwing it away I ate it........silly me I certainly paid the price for a few days after. I'm okay now, although I'm very thirsty, probably because of the hot weather but it could also be because of being ill so I could still be a bit dehydrated. Pleased to see Thomas is back now after disappearing for a while, you can stop worrying now. :-) How is James, hope his toe isn't to sore and it's healing okay? Hope all is okay with you to.

Going to get a cuppa now, then try and work out where I'm up to on OH's tree. I hope I have as good a day as yesterday on it.

Mandy Yes Ziad (the pharmacy nurse phoned. I spoke to him then passed him to OH who continued the conversation. He had not got any idea why he was phoning me and said I needed a review because it was ayear since I had had my blood check etc. I pointed out it was finally done in January he obviously then looked it up on the computer (according to OH) and said 'oh yes, he obviously had not checked. Anyway, he will give me prescriptions until October (he said) and then until February. No explanation why not all the way through to October and by then OH had obviously decided to 'go with the flow'. I will get an appointment with him in October to get it finally sorted. This is supposed to be a convenient way of getting prescriptions, it has been far from that for me.

Gill gosh you were up late if you had not gone to bed by 2am, I couldn't stay up that long!

25 degrees here now but there is a breeze so it is quite pleasant. Annx sounds as if it will be hotter where you are the East of the country was set to be hotter than the West today.

Frank Ros will be fine shopping as most of the big stores have air con. Was your lasagne nice yesterday?

Jane, maybe if it is hot Thomas has found a cool hedge to lie under when he disappears. Or maybe he doesn't like the fan if you have it on a lot.

We've had some sun and now its clouded over AGAIN. Its not as hot as yesterday.

AnnG I usually go to bed around 2am every day if I go earlier I just lay there and get cross with myself like Frank.

Good you have sorted a telly in the lounge Gill. Shame Black Friday its nearer when you can get bargans on tv etc. Its on 29th November but I don't expect you can wait that long knowing how much telly you watch.

Ordered my scripts online this morning and hope the arrive at the shop on Tuesday next. They only deliver on a tuesday and a Thursday and need three days notice so I hope I have it right this time so I don't run out of oh's pills.

Frank you done the shower yet?

Right must get back to my picture that needs a bit of loveing care if its going in the show.

Gillx

Gillx Report 24 Jul 2019 16:18

I'm like you Mel and go to bed around 2am and I'm normally awake no later than 8.30am in the morning. I've never needed a lot of sleep, although every now and again I find I get very tired and have one day in about a month where I'll go to bed early and sleep for around 10 hours. I've always been the same since I was a child, my mum used to say I was recharging my batteries lol :-D :-D

OH has just took our TV to a repair man, he seems to think it's not a big problem so we should have it back within the next week. I've given up trying to watch the portable TV in the living room, the screen is so small I can't see anything on it with sitting so far away, so I'm back in my bedroom watching recordings off the planner on Sky as I have it going into that room. I have the curtains shut again as it's still sunny here and two fans on, one either side of the room, so it's not to hot.

Yes, Frank have you fixed your shower yet?

When is the show Mel, sorry if you've already said I must of missed that post if you did? How many things are you putting in? Hope your scrips are sorted okay for you. Yes it would of been better if the TV had broken around Black Friday, but I couldn't cope with the tiny screen for that long, so hopefully it'll be fixed soon and we can get back to normal.

That was a bit of a conversation your OH had on your behalf AnnG. Hopefully your scrips will be sorted now. I can see how awkward it was doing it over the phone, especially if your notes hadn't even been checked properly. Good on your OH for sorting it out for you. Not a very convenient way though, like you said.

I've found a few more people for OH's tree today, so I'm getting there slowly.

Frank Report 24 Jul 2019 16:53

Afternoon all, Still very sunny and hot here. There is a good breeze blowing through and I have bought a fan in from the garage.

The lasagna was very nice last night. I rang Tony to see if he liked Lasagna and he said YES, so I took all thats over round to him, It will last him a couple of days, and say him cooking or eating out.

I started on the shower, but decided the old one, was far better than this new one, even though it was £20.00 I will repack it and send it back,.I tried to replace the bit I needed off the new one, but it was a different size, so I have (I HOPE) repaired the old one. We will see when I use it tomorrow.

Liver and onions tonight, with creamy mash and garden peas. Eos bought a bag of Mussels and has steamed them, ready for a treat later this evening. She also treated me to a bottle of Gin and half dozen tonics. I have plenty of ice in the freezer and a couple of lemons in the fridge, so I am set up. ;-) ;-) ;-) I must admit, I do love a G & T in the hot weather. I see tomorrow could break the records for the hottest day

Your OH must have a lot of Relatives Gill, if you are still finding them. Where do they ORIGINATE FROM ?? I keep saying I must look at mine again, I will one of these days. I didn't know they still repaired T.Vs. I imagined that when they pack up, you just get another one. ;-) ;-) ;-)

These nurses and Drs seem to get mixed up with various check ups. I would have thought with everything recorded on computers these days, that they could programme when you are due for another checkup, and notify you accordingly.

I have just reminded Ros that I have to be back to the opticians at 11.10 am tomorrow. Not looking forward to the drops in my eyes. !!!

Ros has just put the Tele on, it's all about Boris moving into No. 10. As if we are interested, i am certainly not. He is suppose to be in the House now giving his PM speech. I expect the news will be full of it this evening. I will turn over and find something worth watching. :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

I must go and put a few beers in the fridge for tonight.See you all later. xxx

Afternoon Everyone
Its Hot Hot Hot! Too hot. i have been sat chatting all afternoon with a freind from down the road.I t was good to see her as it has been a long time so we had lots of catching up to do. I was sat with my feet on the chilled Hot Water Bottle :-D.It was bliss. It is back in the freezer again now .
Chris has been to the cinema in Northampton this afternoon and enjoyed the aircon probably more than the film. I cant think what film he went to see.He was lucky to get a parking space as it was Graduation Day at the Derngate Theatre. He said there were hundreds of students all floating around in their gowns
:-D.
What a business AnnG you had on the phone :-S Hope your scripts arrive at the shop Mel :-) I must re order one of my pills tomorrow .I always do it on line now and touch wood it has always been ok.
So your Lasagne went down well with Tony then Frank :-D I hope he is grateful for your generosity . Is Val home yet ?
Fingers crossed there are no shower disasters in the morning :-D :-D

It is meatballs and pasta again for us tonight . I am getting a bit fed up with them now. But Chris had bought them so I didnt like to turn my nose up.He would have got the hump LOL I feel quite exhausted ,what with the heat and being awake half the night.
So we all had the thunder and lightening last night .It must have been countrywide which has to be quite unusual.

Gill I cant imagine watching TV on a little portable now. But way back that is what we had and it was fine . Well I say fine there was no other choice LOL . At least it wont be too long before your main tv is fixed and you are still able to watch tv in the bedroom.

Enjoy your G&Ts tonight Frank :-D

Just straining my sloe gin as I am going to put that inthe show this yar. Its been made for ages or shoud I say years and I forgot about it in the corner cupboard in the kitchen but when I saw it on the list I thought I would give it a go. Its not as sweet as I like it so thats why it was still in there.

I have put 8 lots of things in this year. 3 Christmas tree decorations, 2 lots, 2 bookmarks, 2 cards, my horse head drawing, my tinners rabbits picture, 2 felt brooches, my oak leaf with beads on I made a couple of years ago and the sloe gin.
The show is on Saturday Gill and I shall put my stuff in on Friday evening.

Jane I bet you had a lovely long chat to your friend and had lots of catching up to do if you had'nt seen her for a while.

Oh put my small protable telly outside in the old shed and thats where it stayed till we threw it out. He did the same iwth the one out of the caravan that also played dvd's. They both went in a skip in the end. I was so cross.

Frank shame the shower fitting did'nt fit. Thats the trouble with different makes they make different sizes on purpose.

Gillx

Gillx Report 24 Jul 2019 20:30

It sounds like you've made lots of things for the show Mel, good luck for Saturday, are the things judged? If they are I hope they all win.

OH's family come from Gloucestershire Frank, mainly Cheltenham, although a few of them ended up in America. His direct line came from Bristol though, so way back the family must of split and gone in different directions. What a shame you couldn't use the new shower fittings, I hope the job you've done works for you.

That was lucky your OH was with you when everything was being discussed AnnG. Good idea to print everything off so he had the answers to hand.

How nice to spend the afternoon chatting with your friend Jane, it sounds like you had lots to catch up on. It's been very hot here today and they say it's going to be even hotter tomorrow. Poor OH had a headache with the heat, so I hope it's not to bad tomorrow. I don't suppose it helped when he had to take the TV to the repair man in the car, he said even with the windows down the car didn't cool down. Good idea to have a cold hot water bottle, I might suggest that to OH, or even try it myself. Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to watching TV on a portable, but we're closer to the one in the bedroom so it makes it that be easier, hopefully it won't be to long before our larger TV is fixed and we can get back to normal.

I've just checked the temperature in our bungalow and it's 27 and a half degrees, I hope we can sleep tonight, I wouldn't mind but I have two fans going and the window open and it's still hot.

Hope it's not to hot for everyone and you manage some sleep.

Tomorrow is suppose to be even hotter, needless to say I won't be going out anywhere. I heard on the news we're suppose to be having thunder and lightening again and could end up with a power cut, I hope that doesn't happen or we'll end up with no fans to cool us down.

I feel sorry for the animals, they must be so hot in this weather. Hope everyone's pets are okay and keeping cool.

Good morning all It was another hot night here, when I woke for the loo it was so hot I couldn't get back to sleep. It is Senior Captains day at the golf club so OH has gone to play, luckily he had a start time of 0800 so he will have had the first couple of hours in the cooler temperature. But he won't be finishing until mid day, I was asleep when he left but hopefully he will have put sun cream on, will be wearing a hat and will have plenty of water with him. He is quite sensible about those things. It is already 26 degrees here.

I don't intend going anywhere, I have a packet to post but that will have to wait, I will just find things to do indoors. :-) :-)

Gillx

Gillx Report 25 Jul 2019 10:26

Morning all

Sunny here but not to hot YET, they say it's going to be 33 degrees today.

I've done three loads of washing, watered the toms in the greenhouse and picked some to put on the kitchen window sill to ripen, pegged a full line of washing out and now I'm waiting for it to dry so I can put more out before the thunder storm and rain arrives.

At the moment I'm in the living room sitting in front of a fan. There are a few clouds around so that's keeping it a bit cooler and all the doors and windows are open.

That was a stroke of luck having an early start on the golf course AnnG, he'll be grateful of that when he's finished. Good idea to put on sun cream and a hat and of course drinking plenty. Yes, I think it's wise to leave the parcel for today and stay indoors. When OH and Sandra nipped to the shops yesterday they said it was lovely in Tesco's with the air con, but it made the car feel twice as hot on their journey home. I can't even stand in the garden with the sun on my head. Me and hot weather don't mix. I much prefer the winter.

I did well again on OH's tree yesterday and I'm hoping I do as well today. I'm determined to finish his side even if it takes me months to do. Luckily it's not that big compared to my side of the family.

Going to get a drink then check the washing on the line to see if it's dry yet, then I can get the next load pegged out. Sandra is sitting in the shade outside reading her book and OH is sitting on the sofa in the living room by the open door of the kitchen, so we're keeping as cool as we can.

Hope everyone else isn't to hot, especially Frank and Jane, I noticed it's going to be around 39 degrees by you, keep as cool as you can and drink plenty. It looks like you're getting cooler weather than the rest of us Mel today, only 28 degrees, although that's still hot. They do say it's going to cool down by the weekend though.

Good morning Annin Hlos, and to you all,

A very hot morning again here. Slight breeze so it might be better out than in today.

Ros was lucky to get a Dr appointment for 10.00 am this morning. She has a nasty bruise on her forearm. and there is a lump under the skin. Better to find out what it is, than to ignore it.

After getting shaved I put the shower on. NO WATER PRESSURE. Gas knows what they are doing, I don't know. So it was a good old strip wash, which I must say I haven't done for years. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Thats a lot of items for the show Mel, I am sure you will get a prize if not more than one, with all your clever work. How is OHs back today. ??

Ros has just come in, so I will see how she got on at the Dr. BBL. xxxx

Morning annG and Gill and all,

I stepped out to put something in the bin and wow its hot out there. I am now in the kitchen with all the doors and windows closed as the house stays cooler that way. The kitchen side of the house is north and the bedrooms and lounge is facing south. oh's study is in the front as is the bathroom.

Its George's birthday today, the little boy next door and they break up from school today and they are going to have a BBQ in the garden and lots of friends around so we should hear them enjoying themselve later. I must do his little gift up too and pop it round so its there when he gets in from school.

The sky is clear blue but there is a bit of breeze.

Gillx

Gillx Report 25 Jul 2019 11:11

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GEORGE hope he has a lovely time. How old is he Mel?

I was the same as you the other day, it was hotter outside than in so we left the door shut to keep the hot air out, it seemed to work, although it was the other way around yesterday so the bungalow was hot all day and night.

I hope all went well at the doctors for Ros Frank and it's nothing to worry about. What a shame your shower didn't work and today of all days being the hottest day of the year so far. Hope the little wash you had helped to keep you cool. We have a bit of a breeze which was good this morning, but I've just swapped some washing over on the line and it's boiling in the sun now, even with the breeze, so I'm back indoors sitting in front of the fan again.

Just had a text off the TV repair man, he's found the fault and can fix it for £68 which is much cheaper than buying a new TV. He's going to text us when it's fixed. We had to pay a £25 deposit so we just need to pay him a further £43. So that's a bit of good news as I had visions of him saying it couldn't be fixed with it being such an old TV.

Annx

Annx Report 25 Jul 2019 11:19

Morning All,

I slept like a log again with just a sheet over me and the window open as usual. I woke up quite early and as I didn't feel shattered from any lack of sleep I nipped into the village car wash for when it opened at 9.00am. There were 2 cars in front of me already!!! I can't believe the slim hips and waists on those young men, no fat on them, yet they still have muscle from doing the car washing. I must get my car washed more often! lol. The car was showing 30 degrees when I got there, but inside it is 28 degrees now.

AnnG I remember one night a few years ago when we both were so hot we went and stood outside in the dark in the early hours in our birthday suits to cool off! We have also been known to have a cool shower in the middle of the night. When I had hot flushes as well when it was hot I used to put a hot water bottle in the fridge all day and take that to bed with me. It sounds like T is very sensible about playing golf in this heat, OH takes a bottle of water to matches now and always wears a hat. He tends to cover up with long sleeves rather than have sun cream as he comes out in rashes on his arms and legs with the sun. He also sneezes if he looks at the sun, just like his dad used to! His face doesn't get burnt as he has a beard.

OH had a dentist appointment first thing and he has to have his tooth with the loose crown out. He also has to have 2 more teeth out that are cracked. He's being referred to the hospital as he has osteoporosis so the dentist can't do it. :-S I just said to him that it is lucky he knows he has osteoporosis, as so many must be walking around that have no idea and are having dental treatments like tooth extraction. He only got tested after me chivvying him for ages after I read a few years ago about the risk of osteoporosis after taking acid reflux tablets for a long time.

I hope Ros got on ok at the docs Frank. It's best to get these things checked as you say.

Gill, we go out for a ride in the car when it's this hot sometimes as it's the coolest place with the aircon. Luckily more and more shops are air conditioned now and the frozen food aisles are a good place to linger as well. lol. It's good you are doing well with your OH's tree.

Jane that was nice having a chat with a friend. Has the wound healed now? How is Fitz doing now? Once you can both walk further you will be able to rendez-vous down the lane.
