Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Apr 2019 13:17

Yes I think it maybe one of the new girls, the one that get picked on by all the others. One settled in well with the other old ones but they chase this one (Chuchy) away from the food whereever it is and even if she is in the way of where they want to go. I have had another egg so three whole ones today.

Just had something to eat so I better get changed to go shopping.

Frank you silly boy making me all worried about if you had hhurt yourself yesterday and today you tell me you slipped in the shower and grazed yourself. Aunty Mel is NOT amused. Hope you feel better now. X <3

Silly old Tony he should know you are quite in the right about having the branches off the Red Robin your side.

We had one in the garden and it spit in two so had two trunks. In some wind it broke one trunk and oh cut the bit that was still attached. It stayed like that for years and then we had another big blow and down it went. This is behind the 10 foot wall we have. Anyway it had fallen into another shrub so oh cut all the top off of it and it is still there now growing on its side.and now its about 6 foot high again.

Frank

Frank Report 9 Apr 2019 14:27

Yes Mel, I know these RED ROBINS can grow to about 16/18 foot tall. That's the last think we want outside our lounge window. Barry has done an excellent job on it. It will take a very long time to get back to the size it was. I bet Tony's green bin is full now.

I forgot to make my appointment to have my Testosterone injection last month. (WHAT AM I LIKE) so when the Drs. open at 2.30 I will have to ring to get it done ASAP. I have given up on ringing the hospital, I will try again later. I was number 5 in the queue, and didn't want to hold for a long time. Why don't they have an answer phone, It would be so much easier.

Ros is making a necklace, to give to Julia tomorrow. The rug she is making is only going to be the size of a cushion, It's done with the hook method,. She has three different projects on, at the moment, so is keeping busy, as she can't get in the garden.

I see in Kettering there has been two robberies. One of a young man sitting on a bench in the Church grounds. FOUR YOBS beat him up and stole his bike. The other was a man who was walking down a street, and pushed into a house porch way and robbed. Both these were carried out in BROARD DAYLIGHT. What on earth is happening to our towns.??? That BOMB SCARE in Milton keynes must have been very scary for the public, who were shopping there. I bet the hoaxer will get away with a SMACK on the wrist. How is that going be a deterrent to others. These people need to be made an example of. (MOAN OVER) lol lol. No wonder the Town Centres are being ignored, and people shopping on line. !!!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 9 Apr 2019 14:42

Yes AnnG, you're probably right and the new neighbours were just having an off day, I think I'd be a bit annoyed by now at the time it's taking to finish the property.
How frightening the bomb hoax must of been, I hope the man who did it is punished and not let off like Frank said happens.

It sounds like once a Red Robin has gone in the ground it grows like mad and is very difficult to get rid of Mel with your's growing on it's side and still about 6 foot tall. I'm wondering now if I may of made a mistake putting one in our front garden. It's right in the far corner so well away from the bungalow and it needed quite a lot cut off it, so it's only small at the moment, but I think I'll need to keep an eye on it and cut it back quite regularly from now on.

The sun's out now and it's warmed up, I've just been sitting outside enjoying it. The weather forecast yesterday said we were suppose to have rain yesterday afternoon but it never came, so OH has had to water all our pot plants as they were very dry.

Jane Report 9 Apr 2019 15:40

Afternoon All

Frank,I bet your low moods are because you missed your injection !. I t hink this has happened before when your levels are not right. Do what you did before and get us to shout out a reminder each month :-D :-D Plus not having much sleep is not going to help . Could that maybe be another side effect of misssing your injection?

I hadnt heard about the robberies here .They are just so brazen doing this in the daytime.I hadnt heard of the bomb hoax either at MK. I'm usually quite up to date too with all that is going on.

I am going to get us a cup of tea now and then get ready for this Information Meeting at Barton Hall. I don't know what equipment was being used this morning across the way but I kept thinking the Police Helicoptor or the Air Ambulance was hovering somewhere nearby. I went outside a few times and looked in the sky before realising that it was the works !!. The sound was actually coming down my chimney,it was weird.
I shall stick a bottle of wine in the fridge to chill as I think we may well need a little something later !!!

MillymollyAmanda Report 9 Apr 2019 16:09

Afternoon all,

Bright and breezy here today .

AnnG the cards you've made are really pretty ,i love the two with the owls .

My head is going round and round ,i've been looking at cookers since lunch time as my oven went off yesterday ,i did manage to get the chicken cooked but the roast potatoes didn't get cooked .
I'd put them in and when i went to turn them there was not much heat that came out of the oven so i think it's the thermostat that's had it and as we've had the cooker for years we decided it's time to get a new one .

Oh look at the time i'd better get some spuds peeled ,at least i can use the hob .

Frank Report 9 Apr 2019 16:45

Oh Mandy what a blow that is, No Roast Pots. Ours started playing up so I bought a new one last year. They don't last forever.

Appointment made for my injection for 3.40 pm Thursday, and a new EYE appointment for next week. The hospital will send a letter confirming the time and date.

Yes I will have to ask you to SHOUT AT ME every FOUR WEEKS for my injection.

Jane that was weird, I bet you thought there had been an accident on the A 14. I agree with you a bottle of WINE is the order of the day. I wish I had a bottle of RED lol lol. I am being a very good boy, and restricting myself to THREE cans of beer each evening.

I was hoping I could get BT SPORT on the TV in the conservatory, as there is a good match on, Manchester City V Spurs. But with FREEVIEW you don't get BT SPORT one or two. I will flick in the match on the lounge TV.T he pub hasn't got it either, and the club isn't open on Tuesdays. I won't ask Tony if he is going the pub in Collingtree that will be showing the match. NOT after this morning's fiasco. lol lol. I think they will be waiting a long time also, before I make them another MEAL

I hope your meeting was a success, and you were given the information that you need. The trouble is with these developers, they tell you what they want, and not what you need. !!!! I hope Chris had an opportunity to have a Q & A session. They would have to TELL THE TRUTH THEN. !!!

Still a miserable afternoon here, cloudy and chilly. Heating is on, so we are nice and cosy.

See you all soon, xxxx

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Apr 2019 17:16

Back but just going to unpack everything.I just needed a little sit down before doing it so Iread your posts.

Frank I was going to say the same as Jane about your moods being because you forgot your injection. You'll have to write in big letter on the calender and tell us when to give you a nudge as to another appointment as we all, well mostly all of us, don't knw what day it is anyway.

I must have walked around Morrisons about three times today looking for things. Every week I go they have changed everything around again its now really getting on my nerves. Even the staff don't know where they have moved things to, its unbeleiveable.

So Mandy a new cooker is in order, hope you get used to it quickly as it took me a while to get to grips with my new one. Its a fan oven but if I open the door it puffs a great clouds of hot steam or air out right in your face. I have to remember to open it a bit first and turn away.

Annx

Annx Report 9 Apr 2019 17:22

Afternoon All,

It was dull here earlier but the sun has come out now. OH had a migraine in the night and not much sleep so he got up in the end and spent an hour and a half writing up minutes. We went to Ullesthorpe Court for our carvery, the old 17th century Manor House and Golf Club and I took him in my car so he could relax and not have to drive. Well, the increase in the low wage threshold this month has started to bite as Sharron told us that is why their prices have gone up!!! They do 3 sizes of plate and luckily for us the small plate has stayed the same at £4.95, but we noticed the meat was sliced thinner this time. We don't need bigger plates as I don't have all the trimmings and potatoes and OH always gets enough by piling his plate higher. I expect a lot of places that pay the low wage will have to put prices up now, so could lose custom and need less staff. Some of those on low wages will then lose their jobs and be worse off than ever. :-( :-(

OH is typing away now and has a training session to do with Health and Safety in schools tonight at the racecourse. I have managed to do a good clean of the microwave, sink and kitchen tops before I needed to sit down and cleaned the ensuite apart from the floor before we went out so am glad I have managed to get that much done. Now it is time for a sit down and admin as AnnG would say!!

Frank I worry that you will do yourself some worse damage with falling one of these days. Could you wear some of those all plastic crocs in the shower and slip them off to do your feet when you sit down and put them back on to get up and walk out again? It is why we worry when we don't hear from you. Do be extra careful when Ros is out and keep a phone with you at all times. I do when I'm on my own. It will be nice to have Biggles staying with you for a short while. :-) The rug with the hook method sounds like the ones I made years ago. I used to enjoy it and must admit the rugs were really good and lasted years. One was white and would come up like new after a gentle wash in the washing machine. That's good Barry managed to cut back the Red Robin. Maybe I should be glad our Tiny Robin stays small after all.

Gill that's unlucky you possibly having Thrush now as well as your OH needing a hernia op. I know what you mean by falling apart. It's just what we keep saying too! lol. Those sack barrows are good for moving big pots without hurting yourself. Your OH will have to be careful for while after the op too. I know OH couldn't do much to start with.

Little William sounds quick witted Jane........speedwalking!! lol. I wonder what your neighbour has done with his spare key for the lock!! It sounds like he has lost both. I wonder if he will have to destroy the steering wheel to get it off? He should have at least written down the number that's on the key so he could get another. Hopefull y he will sort it soon and move the vehicle.

Next door's Shih Tzu has been yapping all afternoon so I think she has gone out and left him. Luckily little Fleur the other side has ignored him.......sensible girl! She didn't bark when I walked up the path next to the fence last night either which is good. She was on the lead in the field at the back this afternoon, transfixed and watching the new calves. lol

I wonder if the new hen you think is the problem is a bit stressed and harassed by being picked on by the others Mel. Hopefully they will get bored and leave her soon and she will be more relaxed. I see the pompoms are finished now. Will you use string to fasten everything to?

Mandy I meant to ask if it was a particular kind of dog you are making for Lewis or just a loveable Heinz one? :-D I look forward to seeing it, it must be nice having a change after doing the unicorn dolls.

Jane

Jane Report 9 Apr 2019 18:18

Well that was a total waste of time .The only thing that is a positive is that there will be a pedestrian access to get to the top of the road. Chris said there was now new info at all since the council meeting 2 weeks ago. It was very busy already by the time we got there and I reckon once people finish work it will be heaving . There was not one happy person there and we were all having a good moan and grumble.I felt a bit sorry for the chaps really who were there to explain and answer queries . They were getting were getting right grillings and plenty of bad tempers fired at them . I saw Chris chatting to a chap and so went over thinking it was someone from out road who I didnt know.I asked him who he was .He was from BBC Radio LOL and wanting to interview us.We declined and I said he needed to find someone who would be far better at putting their views across :-D. All in all we are going to just have to grin and bare it for many months :-S. Work will go on roads closed ,miles of diversions and lots of very frustrated and cross folk.Hey Ho! .Don't bother coming to Kettering Frank :-D.Barton Rd will be only one way at a time too (past your old house) I think people going to work etc in the morning are going to have to leave home an hour earlier !!!(at least for some) Enough of my gripes.

Mel it does sound as though your little hen is stressed .She probably wants to have a good peck at the ones who are bullying her so has to take it out on an egg :-(
I hate it when they keep moving things around in the supermarkets. You go in thinking you know exactly which isles things are in only to find you have to go searching.

Oh dear Mandy. New cooker it is then. I know when I got my new one you said then about having to think about changing yours. Thank heavens the chicken was cooked through properly. No Salmonella :-D.

Gill, I hope OH can get his Hernia op done soon. I am sure as you have done so much wth your garden over this last year you can probably be able to just make do with light work for some time.I am sure it will still look beautiful with all your lovely plants and flowers. There will be no lifting for sure for OH for many weeks .I am sure too that Mum will understand if all the decorating can't done until a little later.

Ann I think everyone in the 'food/pub type industries will be affected now since the low wages have been increased. It is a shame if they have to lose some staff . Custom too.But I still think most places do have some good deals on meals.

Yes William is a bright and witty little boy.You would all love him .I asked him if he enjoyed school and he said Aunty Jane I just love it ,I am in year 2 now and my best friend is called Delphine :-D :-D.He is such a lovable little boy . He knows his Mummy is in heaven . Sadly he never knew her as he was only 3 months old when she died. She would be very happy to see what a great job Michel has done with William.I know Janice and Larry have had a massive influence too .Michel would never have been able to cope as well as he had without them.

That rumbling noise I heard earlier was apparantly a Chinnook (wrong spelling) helicopter!.
Time to get some dinner started.

Oh my head ,i'm going from one model of cooker to another :-S
We did go and have a look in Hughes this morning ,there was a Belling ,i think they have been about for years i remember mum having a Belling ,there was another one i quite liked but i've never heard of Leisure cookers before ,oh well i suppose i'll find one by Christmas !!! :-D

Jane we get those Chinooks coming over here some days ,i think they go into the Barracks at Swanton Morley .
Oh little William he sound a dear little boy ,has he still got his good head of lovely
hair ?

Ann i think the dog will be a loveable Heinz one :-D i'm having a bit of trouble sewing his legs in the right place ,i keep moving them about ,and his ears i need to move them again too , i'll send a photo when he's done .

Mel i had to laugh :-D when you said well mostly all of us, don't know what day it is anyway. :-D :-D
I know it's Tuesday as you'e been shopping LOL
Yes your right about the steam from the cooker puffing into your face when you open the door ,that's how i knew mine had packed up when there was no steam .

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 9 Apr 2019 19:27

Hello everyone

Mandy, sorry your cooker packed up on you. Leisure are a well known brand. I can’t remember who originally made them but they are now owned by Beko. My cooker is a big range style Leisure. I don’t think it would have been my first choice but it was in the house when we moved in. I haven’t had any problems with it.

Frank, do be careful in the shower. I haven’t been on the thread for long but I worry as well if I don’t see you posting.

I’m sorry you are still getting some broken eggs Mel. Perhaps the chuck will settle down soon.

It doesn’t sound as though your meeting was very reassuring Jane. What a pain in the wotsit it is! I laughed at your little William. I reckon he’ll go far.

You are going through the mill Gill, and now OH needs an op. Just take it easy and don’t try to have everything just so in the house and garden. It will still be there when you are both feeling better and you can tackle it then.

Today, we met up with our next door neighbours from two houses ago. About once a year we meet at a pub about half way between us and have lunch and catch up with all the news of our families and friends and neighbours we had in common. We had a very enjoyable few hours with them and, when we left them, OH and I popped into Freeport which was nearby. This is one of these discounted shopping villages. I got a pair of trousers and a pair of summery trainer style shoes. I also dithered for a while over a Radley handbag which I really liked but decided I didn’t really need another handbag.

OH has just made us a sandwich and brought me a glass of wine so bye for now..

Jane Report 9 Apr 2019 19:37

Mandy, William has had his hair done in little squirly plait things. They look like little snakes LOL . His hair was so big and he loves it big but Nits are around at school and trying to go through that great mop is a nightmare :-D. I was just looking at a thankyou card I had from William and he did a little drawing of himself with BIG hair :-D
Just taken a pic of it . I also have a nice pic from Sunday with William and his snake hair with his half Brother James. They make quite a pair :-D To see Williams hair now you could not imagine how big it is when let loose !!!

I have had a fan oven for donkeys years now and know to turn my head away when I open the door.It don't half steam the specs :-S My new specs are hurting behind one ear so I think maybe a little adjustment needs doing

I had Belling cookers for ages Mandy and they were always good. I got like you and a bit dizzy trying to look at all sorts and in the end just plumped for the one I kept going back to look at on line. There are just too many to choose from these days .MIne is a Zanussi now .I am quite happy with it :-D.. needs a clean now :-S

Annx

Annx Report 9 Apr 2019 19:54

:-) :-) :-) Mandy. You sound like me and my painting with moving legs, ears etc!! You will know straightaway when they look just right though. My first cooker was a Belling Compact 3 with 3 rings. To be honest I think it was about the best I've had for temperature and timings being accurate. Mel is right about these fan ones nearly taking your eyebrows off when you open the door. They make my glasses steam up as well. Mine seems to have a lot of heat escape around the door when it's shut too but it's best feature is cleaning itself, but I wish I'd had it fitted higher off the ground so there wasn't so much bending. That would have meant less worktop though and I don't have a lot.

Jane, when we went to meetings about the big development here, the developers were quite smug and complaints/concerns were like water off a duck's back as they were laughing all the way to the bank. OH said when he went to one of the meetings where the big units to be built at the back of us were mentioned they were quite gleeful at the extra jobs and no doubt council tax they would bring in. No-one seems to care about the effect on the local residents. We passed through a little village called Frolesworth on the way to lunch today and they have closed off the main street through the village there. OH worked out that it has been closed since last November, so that is nearly 5 months up to now. The daft thing as well is that it is a direct route to a main road and the next village down to cut through to the main road has only just opened the main street after weeks of tarmacing being done.

I meant to say how nice your cards are AnnG. You seem to get them done quickly too, so practice must make perfect as I take ages with whatever I do. :-S

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Apr 2019 20:23

Good evening all.
Mandy, glad you like the cards. I like the owls too.
Oh what a pain for the cooker to pack up halfway through the meal. I hope you can find something you like. When we were looking for the washing machine I didn’t recognise half the makes. They seem to keep changing.

Jane that is the trouble with these developers they arrange meetings but don’t do anything to alleviate any problems. They just intending going their own way. I hate that kind of disruption it is horrible.

Frank, hopefully you will feel better and have better balance once you have had the injection. Strange how you can get to know people without meeting them to the point that we worry when people are missing.

Annx that is good value for lunch. Small plates suit me too these days although when we went out last Saturday I ate a whole streak plus most of my chips.

I had my annual eye check today, had my current glasses two years as they didn’t need changing last year however they have got a bit worse for close work so, new glasses ordered at £444. The actual frames are £100. He is very thorough, the only real concern is a small dark spot this time in the macular but he has said next check up 18 months so he can’t be too bothered.

So that this afternoon and this morning two new tired for the Lexus £187. Expensive day.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Apr 2019 20:29

Annx some of them take longer than others but glad you like the cards. Your jewellery is more fiddly that would take me ages and I am not a very patient person.
Jane love the sound of hair in squiggly bits.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Apr 2019 22:51

Mandy mines a Leisure cooker, range style. Theonly trouble I have had with mine is I used the top oven a lot and it made the grill thingy bend becuase I used foil over things I was baking. When I read the instructions it said not to use fil in the top oven. Oh ordered a new one and fitted it for me and its been no trouble since and I hav'nt used foil in the top oven.

Mmandy will you know what other days of the week are though?? I have to think sometimes when I wake up and must admit to sometimes getting it wrong to start with but the pc usually tells me.

Hope you get the legs in the right place in the end. I know you will work it out right.

I had three eggs in the end today. I shall have to get up ealier and get out there first thing and let them out. I used to leave them till nearly 12 to let them out but I can't do it with the new house. They say most hens lay before 12 but I often get some in the late afternoon.

This hen is one I picked as she came up to me when I went to get them and she had quite a few feathers missing. She talks to me whenever I go to them and she's so sweet. Her new feathers are coming through nicely now she is getting good food. I must give them all some bread soaked in olive oil tomorrow. The other old hen who I said had a sort of hen dropsy looked much better today and was'nt so low to the ground and was walkking around much more.

Jane I never think these meeting so much good and think they only put them on to shut people up and then do nothing about the gripes people have anyway.

Well at last last night I found those programs I had missed, Our Yorkshire Farm, on channel 5 so I have now seen the summer one and have one more to watch so I'm pleased about that. I had looked on ITV and channel 4 but never in a million years would have thought it was on channel 5.

I have put the garland together but not glued the bits on yet but I did take a pic and I shall send it tomorrow.

I am due an eye test in May but I shan' be buying new glasses as the last ones cost a lot and I have'nt worn one pair at all.

Bright and sunny but there is a bit of frost on the grass so it must of been really cold in the night.

Good luck with finding a new cooker Mandy, I was the same when I bought my new one, there are so many to choose from it can take a while to find the right one.

So the meeting didn't go to well then Jane, it sounds like it's very noisy around your way, lets hope the work doesn't last to long. Love William's hair he's grown a lot hasn't he.

I hope your little girl settles soon Mel and the other's stop picking on her. How sweet that she comes up to you like that. Looking forward to seeing the pic of the garland.

How nice to meet up with your old neighbours Vera, what a good idea, it's something you can all look forward to and have a good old catch up.

Hope you had a better nights sleep Frank, there's nothing worse than being tired all the time. I see you have booked an appointment for your injection, hopefully you'll feel much better then.

Morning Gill and All,

Another grey day here. It gets you down when you wake up and its all dreary again.

Blood test at 12 so shan't be around much this morning as I have to get everything fed and watered and get myself showered before I venture into Holsworthy. Such a nuisance as it would have only taken me half an hour in the surgery up the road. Now its takes nearly half an hour to get to Holsworthy AND its market day so there will be tractors and trailers all over the place.

Frank Report 10 Apr 2019 09:47

Good morning all, Biggles arrived before we were up 8.10 am. Most unusual for me, but I must admit, I was so tired last night, that when I went in for a read at 8.30 and to listen to the football on the radio.I took a sleeper. By 10.00 pm when the football finished I was still wide awake, so took another tablet. I was asleep before 11.00 and slept till 5.00 for the loo, and was still dead to the world when Anne bought Biggles.Even after two COT and a walk down the garden, I feel I could go back to bed and sleep the day away. I MUSN'T DO THAT AGAIN. !!!

Mandy We have had a Leisure cooker and hob for years, I have always found them to be very good. When I changed the cooker last year I bought a newer version, and am well pleased.

I will be really pleased when Ros goes out today. The moment she gets up, on goes that Bl@@dy Television. No matter whats on. It's L K. then J KYLE. then Phillip and HOLLY. I just want a bit of peace and quiet when I get up.So the moment she leave the house it will be off. She doesn't like the radio, but doesn't like the house to be quiet, that's why the T.V. is on.

Dull and cold here this morning. Sorry the meeting wasn't very good Jane, It's typical of these meetings. We are having the same problem with this "RAIL CENTRAL" Development that want in Blisworth, Milton Malsor, Collingtree. Everywhere will be affected with 1000s of lorry's going in and out of the couplex. The warehouses will be the size of 100s of FOOTBALL PITCHES. So you think you have trouble. lol lol

Mel, I am pleased to see you are getting more WHOLE EGGS from the girls now. Perhaps she will grow out of that habit ±!!.

Yes, These new Minimum wage levels, are bound to effect the retail trade. I think back to when I employed shop assistants, when wages went up, I had to do away with one of the girls. I expect the food trade must feel it even worse, as the pubs/restaurants, aren't packed all day, but they need the staff, when they are busy.

I don't think I have seen the photo of William, as I haven't opened my emails yet today.

Lewis will be at his Patisserie supervisors job this morning, when Ros and Julia go to Milton Keynes. I forgot to tell you he has been made a SUPERVISOR, and they want him to do more days, which he can't because of University commitments, but I think he will be doing longer hours. He's been there for years, and loves the meeting of the joe public. He earns up to £40.00 a day in tips, on top of his ages, so the pays for his Car insurance, servicing and running costs. I'm so PROUD of my boy. <3 <3 <3

I think I will put a coat on and take Biggles for a trip round the block. It will give me a bit of exercise and let him have a SNIFF or two !!!
