It was fantastic Daff *thinks will that satisfy her ego?

AnninGlos Report 12 Feb 2010 14:21

Fingers crossed please. OH and next door neighbour went out and belted the boiler and it fired up (there seems to be a problem with the ignition), and at the moment we have very weak heat creeping through the rads.

*glances suspiciously at Ann.... now was that heartfelt, or was it pandering to my ego? Mmmm* lol

Fingers are crossed, Ann xxxxxxxxx

AnninGlos Report 12 Feb 2010 16:34

I have put this on a thread on chat but thought I would pop it on here as well, with the heating problem I had forgotten all about it.

We were a bit concerned yesterday evening as we were going for the bus around 7pm in town. We were approached by a couple, Mum had baby in buggy and 'Dad' had toddler carrying her. He approached us and said something along the lines of 'I know this is going to sound extremely stupid but we find ourselves stranded in Gloucester and we are basically trying to raise enough money for my partners fare home with the children', he was extremely well spoken but had a look about him that I didn't like and she stood with her back to us so I never saw her face, couldn't put my finger on it. So I said, 'no I am sorry'. I would put money on it that they were just begging for money and it may have been for drugs, I am 99.9% certain they were not stranded but there is always that little niggling doubt. And I was disgusted that they were using the children. I noticed that they didn't approach any younger couples as well.

Thankyou all for your good wishes today for Eddie, l have added to my thread on chat as to what happened today but a short version is that he doesn't have to wear the full body brace anymore.
Thanks all xx

Wonderful Mummo. Well done Eddie.

And guess what, the heating has gone off again. Three calls to three heating engineers and nobody has replied. No wonder the country is in the state it is. I appreciate they probably can't come out but they could answer the phone.

Oh dear Ann.... you'll be frozen... let me know if you need my heaters..... and what about hot water???

That couple do sound suspicious, don't they? How can they be stranded when there are banks nearby.... they surely didn't travel with two young babies without money... and if their purse/wallet had been knicked, then again... police would have been involved, and their banks would have helped out, probably. They were begging, like you said, most likely.

Mummo, that is brilliant news.... I shall pop over and have a look at the full report in a mo!!

We have the immersion heater for hot water. And duvets and blankets for sitting around, and extra clothes for moving around. I am quite warm at the moment. It would be OK if we could just get hold of somebody and know they were going to come. Wont hear from anyone until after the weekend now I suspect. Obviously these people have so much work they are not bothered. serves us right for trying to employ local tradesmen.

I will let you know if we do get cold, thanks Daff.

Oh Ann, how awful for you, I do hope you get it sorted very soon, its terrible when something like this happens, wish w lived nearer, you could have come and had a warm.....

Daff , you are romantic at heart, I am sure the card will earn you lots of brownie points, when we were much younger, J was always forgetting to get cards, for special occasions so for three years I sent him the same valentine card...lol.... he never sussed it.... I also remember I was looking to but some cards, and he said" get yourself a nice one from me" my reply is unprintable...lol... a lady near us fell about laughing.....

have a good weekend everyone...

Morningall, a bit grey and fuzzy this morning.... me and the weather, lolol!! I have just finished the card, and put a nice little verse in .... made up all on my ownsome, and which is why I added the extra bit of bling.... symbolic, lol!

Jean, I can be romantic, but that does not go hand in hand with card buying in this house, lol..... I am dreadful for it, and often forget.... I never used to, but the last few years I have been dreadful for it... so he will have a shock tomorrow!!

Ann, maybe they will contact you today? That is naughty, when they don't get in touch... I would have thought they would have been keen for work, with a recession on... clearly that is the job to advise youngsters to go for, these days!

I am having a quiet hour before R and B get up for their day of sport.... I shall be getting the conservatory into a right royal mess... I have 2 scrap book pages to finish.... not keen on the layout, but I bought more stuff, lol, and think I might be able to sort it..... and younger son's girlfriend has e-mailed me some photos of the children on the day they went to see Holiday on Ice in Liverpool.... it was part of our Christmas present to them, and they had a wonderful time there, so I shall scrap those if I have time...... well, I shall start the layout, anyway.

Off to make another cuppa, and some breakfast, see you later!

Good morning all, just catching up on the threads as have sent my visitors off to Portobello and then on to Madame Tussauds. It is icy cold right now and I would be right cranky if I had to schlep round those places (again!) lol...so all is well. I am delighted to hear that Eddie is now out of the full brace and I hope Mummo is getting some rest. Hope Ann's boiler has been fixed so she can shed a cardi or two and glad to hear that our lovely Mr Daff will get a handmade card in exquisite taste and with no glitter at all at all....pmsl....
I am delighted as I have won the WDYTYA tickets from Ron! Maybe I shall be lucky on the Lotto as well so I suppose I had better buy a ticket:-)

Mwahhh for now. hope you all have a lovely day. XX Bc

Morning everyone:o))

Its quite bright this morning :o))

Been watching the opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics....wow amazing:o)

Apparently the last time Canada held the w/olympics it took 30yrs to pay the debt....lets hope it does'nt happen again. It was mentioned this morning that alot of the dances were performing for nothing:o))

Ann....do hope you have the heating sorted soon, its abit warmer here this morning, hope it is in Glouc !!!?

A neighbour knocked the door yesterday and as l opened it she burst into tears, her hot tank had sprung a leak, water was dripping from the ceiling light fittings and from the corner of the tank in the loft. She turned the water off and drained the tank. Oh bless her she was upset though, so much has gone wrong for her recently. Between us we kept an eye on another neighbour waiting for him to come home. He's been in and got water running again....pheww.

Daff....l'm sure R is going to be overwhelmed with your card, bless:o))

Have a good day everyone:o)

Afternoon all. well been out all morning, warmer out than in Lol!!! Two of the engineers have phoned back, but not our usual ones. Anyway we accepted the appointment from the first one to phone at 08.30 while we were still in bed. He only got home last night from Tenerife so I guess he was keen. Just hope he is OK. He is coming late morning on Monday.
So I still have five layers on and am not too cold. Yes Jude it is a bit warmer outside today but when the heating stays off the house does get chilled. It is OK in the evening as we shut the lounge doors and put the electric fire on and it warms up OK, I also have an old sleeping bag that the kids used to use on the single air bed (don't throw anything away me!!) I opened it out and used it as a throw over me while watching TV.

This morning we went to Costa coffee then T went to Comet and bought a phone, ours in the bedroom has packed up!! I went to Homesense and got a storage box for 12x12 paper.
Then (your fault Daff, I blamed you), we went to Dunelm in Gloucester and I spent £14 on craft stuff. They don't have a lot, but enough and I got some reduced bits as well!! Quite an impressive place, not easy to access and exit so hopefully will get T to try the Cheltenham one.

Hello to all,

Gosh today has gone quick and I don't seem to have done a lot, but have done some h'work so that kept me warm for a bit lol. We don't have central heating just gas fires but I think because we are in an inner terrace the house is warmer than a semi or detached, not so many outside walls. Well that's my theory anyway lol.

Daff, now you have the crafting bug you'll be making all your cards as well as scrapping. Beware though once you send people a handmade card they always expect one or as in my friends case her m.i.l. asked "couldn't you afford one from the shop" lol. It was a lovely card as well,I don't think she did her one again.

Mummo so pleased to hear about Eddie.

Well I am going to add some more info to my tree, I had a cert today that confirmed that my great uncle had a different name on the 1901 census to that on the 1911, they did it on purpose to confuse us all didn't they?
Next I want to find his marriage( if any) and his death.

Bye for now.

Lol Ginnie.... I have really enjoyed this one.... and I might make some *special* cards.... Mother's Day is coming up, lol... but it took me ages, this Valentine card..... if they all take this long I won't have enough time to make them all, lolol!

I have almost completed a Military page... just need to stick the last bits down, tomorrow..... hubby has seen it... and likes it... no bling, either ;¬))

S'all right, Ann, lolol........ my shoulders are broad, lololol.... That Dunelm in Gloucester is in a really strange spot, isn't it? It is sort of in the middle of a massive roundabout... and to get out you have to go right across 3 or 4 lanes of traffic, as I recall!!

Jude, I hope your neighbour's water is ok, bless her.

He'd better like his card.... I shall dish it up for dinner if he doesn't, lolo That'll learn him. I'm sure he will, though.

Hope you had a lovely day out with your friend, Maz..... it has been quite a nice day here.

Congratulations on your win, BC..... did you win on the lottery as well?? Did the wine go down a treat? I have never been to the Portobello Road..... have been to Madame Tussaud's though..... I didn't like it much... I found it a bit well, spooky, lolol.... it was years ago, I was 15 and 11 months old...... lolol

I am off to bed early tonight.... I am kernackediddly.

Night all, sweet dreams

Love

Daff xxxx

Getting into Dunhelm is lethal, the drivers on that roundabout which is more of a longabout are manic. First you have to cross to the centre to get onto the roundabout, meanwhile avoiding cars hurtling out of Bristol road going towards Ross and back to gloucester, then coming out you have to cross the traffic going toward the docks. Glad I wasn't driving, I think it is even worse than the Elmbridge roundabout.
