Mo in Kent Report 26 Jan 2013 13:19

Hello girls,
We became great grandparents again this morning, with the birth of baby Zoey at ten fifteen, weighing in at 6lb 3oz.
Our grandaughters waters broke at 8.30 a.m, and after being rushed to hospital, they took her straight down for a C section.
Both Mum and Baby are doing fine.
The most heart breaking thing in all this, and our grandaughter doesn't know yet, but her other grandad passed away, at 2.30 a.m this morning, in the same hospital.
So we have joy, mixed with sorrow.
Bye for now my friends. Love Mo xxx

Congtratulations to you Mo and the family, we wait with baited breath for our little boy to make an appearance any time now,
sorry to hear about grandads passing, we were just saying, in our local paper there are numerous death notices in this week, so much sadness, and also much Joy at new life....wonder what Lily will have to say when she sees the new baby.
We have had an amazing amount of snow overnight, couldnt believe it when I looked out . now its begining to thaw, but it will all have had to go before I venture out.....take care all, no slipping and sliding about....

love and hugs to one and all Jean xx <3

Congratulations Mo on the new Gt Granddaughter. Welcome to little Zoey. How sad that her other Grandfather died the same morning. I don't remember, was he ill for long?

jean, it was a lovely sunny morning here, a little rain overnight but otherwise dry at the moment. Went to Dunelm and The range this morning. Dunelm seemed to be selling off lots of craft bits, got 11 A4 sheets of card for 10p a sheet (colours I was missing). Then a few bits in the Range plus an inexpensive convector heater for the conservatory. Right back to the scrap book.

Sallie Report 26 Jan 2013 20:00

Mo congratulations to both you and Roly on the birth of your new gt granddaughter Zoey.
As you said, tinged with saddness on the death of her other grandad. Had he been ill for long or was it sudden?

We had to go down to Richard's yesterday, to sort out an electric heater that he bought three weeks before Christmas the heating element had stopped working. To make matters worse his car is in the garage having a job done on it and he has also had a virus over the last few days and is quite poorly. Alun and I bought him a new heater and took it down for him and we then took the broken one back to the shop and got the money back.
Had a snack in Richard's and then came home, by the time we got to Tamworth on the M42 it started to rain which had turned to snow by the time we joined the M1. Alun and I were glad to get home as it was snowing heavily by then, we had between three and four inches overnight.

Ann, we have also been to The Range today and as Hobby Craft is very near we went there too. Mind I don't need much of an excuse to go there anyway.lol!!!

Jean, I see that you had snow last night too. Mind you probably had a lot more than us with living so close to the Pennines. It started to rain here about an hour ago, so let's hope that the snow will get washed away.

Hope D didn't have too much of a problem getting to work over the last week.

Sylvia, hope that all is well with you and your OH.

Marie, also hope that all is okay with you and your family.

Huia, how are you getting on at the shop? Hope things are going alright with Phil.

Well girls I'll speak to you all tomorrow.

Take care everyone.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Huia

Huia Report 26 Jan 2013 21:11

Good evening ladies.

Sallie, Phil is always the same when I visit, rarely looking at me, rarely saying anything, sometimes falling asleep. I just hope he is aware that I am a familiar voice.

Our shop is going well. On Wednesday we took over $1000, which doesnt happen very often. I have a holiday from the shop tomorrow, as it is Auckland's anniversary day, so the shop is shut.

Today I am going to do some washing, then I might go over the hill to see if I can get any photos. The photoclub competition for March is for panning. I want to see if I can get any of bikes/cars. And if there are any groups that appear to be celebrating, the Feb. comp is for 'celebration'. I do have 2 or 3 that might suit for that, but always looking for something better.

Better get on with the washing, it is past 10 a.m.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 27 Jan 2013 16:45

Hello Huia, gosh, that was a good total for the shop, did you sell something big that day?

Did you get your photos? Good luck with the comps. Haven't done it for years but always found panning quite hard to do, you need a group of cyclists really to get the effect right.

Thank you girls, the baby is lovely, but then we all think a new born is lovely don't we, as when it's a family member we are biased.

Jean, I don't think Lilly will take much notice of the new baby. She may be slightly jealous, when we hold her, but generally she is very good with babies.
You and J stay inside the house, till the snow completely goes. Don't go practising for dancing on ice purleeze, if you fall down and hurt yourself, you wont be able to skate in front of Robin Cousins and the ice panel, and I know how much you are looking forwards to it. ;-) ;-) ;-)lol

Ann, you will be nice and snug with the new heater in the conservatory. Is that where you do most of your card making and scrap booking?
The grandad that passed away, has been house bound for many many years, with both mental and physical ailments.
Nanny P, bless her, has been carer for both her husband and son, for such a long time, when the funeral is over, she can perhaps get her life back on track, but will find it so hard to fill her days, after running around for the two of them for such a time.

Sallie my little flower, it's good to hear from you.
I bet you were glad to be back home from Richards, the snow on the motorways, is causing such havoc for drivers.
I read in the paper today, about the hold ups on the M6, where traffic was held up for hours on end. It was so bad that people were able to build snowmen on the hard shoulder, whilst they waited for the traffic to clear a bit.
Is Richard any better now? There are a lot of different viruses about at the moment, and everyone I speak to has either had a family member down with one thing or another.

Good grief Huia, the shop did brilliantly raising over $1,000. You must have been extremely busy. Were there furniture items sold to help raise this amount.
Two of our local charity shops sell furniture, as well as clothing and other goods.
I hope you have a lovely Auckland day, and get loads of photo's for your competition in March.

We had a fabulous night out last night. there were loads of us dressed in 1950's clothes.
A few of the men, had been to a fancy dress shop, and hired teddy boy outfits. It was really funny seing them dressed in their drapes, and crepe soled shoes. A good night had by all.
When I get sent some pics sent through on Face Book, I will post them so that you can have a good laugh at my expense, lol

Got to do some tea now, so I will say bye for now. Love to all Mo xxx

Sallie Report 27 Jan 2013 18:15

Huia, pleased to know that the shop is doing so well, that was a very good amount to take for one day. Well done to you and all the others that work there.

Ann, we've been to the garden centre this afternoon. the one that has the craft centre, although I couldn't get what I wanted there.lol!!! Only money we spent was in their coffee shop for the usual tea and coffee and a scone between us.......the scones are really big so we always share one.

Mo, how are things with your granddaughter and her new baby today? Hope that all is going along as it should. Do she know about her other grandfather now?

Jean, how are things with you and your family today. Hope that you are all ok.
Let's hope that it won't be too long before your gtgrandson is born. Looking forward to hearing the good news of his birth.

Sylvia, I hope that your toes are getting a lot better by now.

Marie, also hope that all is well with you.

Jean and Ann, I am just wondering if you use wax paper when you use the more intricate dies in your GC's, BigS machines? If you do, is it easy to use ot not? Sorry all questions to both of you. Thanks.

Sallie I use it all the time with the intricate dies, I actually won fabulous prize from hunk- thingie for sending in a tip saying save the waxed paper inners in cereal boxes, its great and a freebie too.....Baking Parchment is good too....
use the left over wax die too.....sometimes you need to add a thin card or I use an envelope as further shim....

Sallie

Sallie Report 27 Jan 2013 18:39

Oh Jean, that sounds good, thank you. Never even thought of the waxed paper in cereal boxes, as you say a freebie.lol!! I always have baking parchment in and Michael suggested today that it might be okay to use that, so I will give it a go. I looked for the wax paper in the craft centre this afternoon, but they didn't have it there.

Thanks again for those suggestions Jean.

Hi girls,

It's one of those days I'm afraid, I was going to do the irorning today, but have been playing around with GC, made a couple of cards, watched the craft programme and now on here.lol!!

Mo are you off to play darts tonight? If so, hope you and your team will have a good win.

Jean, just thinking that maybe I can get some waxed paper at HobbyCraft ot tThe Range, although I can't remember seeing it there, but then again I've never looked for it in either place. Might get Alun to take me after we've had our dinner this evening. I'm a bit impatient tonight now, I'm afraid.

Ann, I see on Shaun's thread that you and a few of the others have had some bad weather overnight and this morning. Hope it has got a lot better for you by now.

Must go and try to get a couple of jobs done, I'll look in later today.

Take care everyone.

Hi all,
Yes Sallie, I am orft to me darts tonight. Thankfully the venue is in a pub just round the corner from home, so not to far to travel.

Jean, I hope that one of the children will come and see us soon, so that hopfully I can get them to show me how to send you photo's of last saturday night.
Oh and by the way, Robin Cousins, is head judge on the Dancing on Ice show on the t.v. He was one of the U.K's greatest ice skaters, apart from Torville and Dean that is.

We are waiting for a phone call, to tell us what time our grandaughter is home from hospital, so that we can go and see the baby, and I can get some cuddles with her.

See you all tomorrow. Love Mo xxx

AnninGlos Report 28 Jan 2013 15:07

Sallie, a lot from you since I last posted. Horrible journey you had back from Richards.
Mo Yes of course all babies are gorgeous.
No I don't do craft work in the conservatory, even with a heater it would be too cold in winter (and too hot in summer) as it is a glass one, not a house extension type. I do my craft work in what would be the third bedroom which is craft room come office (for me) and TV room (for Tony in the evenings when he wants to watch sport). The fourth bedroom is small and is his office and repository for lots of my books and old photo albums.
I hope Nany P can now have a pleasant life doing what she wants to do.
Your 50s night sounds great - you didn't tell us what you wore :-D

Sallie again Garden centres are great although our local one is very small really and doesn't have a lot of stuff not garden related to look at. We usually share a scone or cake, feel more virtuous that way Lol!

I haven't seen waxed paper in Hobbycraft but I wonder if it is more likely to be in the cake decorating/making section?
It does help to remove all the little bits.
I have to admit to not doing the planned housework today. We walked round for the papers, managing it before it rained. It is now blowing a hooly out there and raining hard so good job we did. When I came back I did the last page of grandson's scrap book. Still too dark to take photos of the pages Jean. But it was Ann Cardiff who had really bad weather overnight, we had rain but no hail or thunder.
Jean thanks for the card photos you sent I must have another look at them I was a bit rushed last night as it was quite late when I saw them.

Sallie

Sallie Report 28 Jan 2013 15:47

Hi Girls,

Ann, pleased to know that I'm not the only one who hasn't done the planned housework today........must say it's so much nicer to do what we feel like doing.lol!!!

Yes it does look as though the area where AnnC lives had it pretty bad last night.

Thanks, I'll look in the cake making part of HobbyCraft for the waxed paper. There are a couple of Craft sites that are out of stock and expecting more in, but one not having anymore until end of February. Of course, I'm too impatient to wait until then.

Mo, it's good that you haven't got to go far to play darts tonight. I don't know about you but this time of the year I don't want to go to far, unless we have to of course.

Like Jean I'm not on FB either, but would love to see your photos of Saturday night, if it's possible.

Enjoy your visit to your granddaughter's and cuddling your new grtgranddaughter, as I'm sure you will.

Jean, how are things with you today? Hope you and your family are all okay.

Going to make a cuppa now as it won't be long before Alun gets home.

Take care.

Hello ladies terrible weather here pouring down and very windy, but at least the snow is almost gone....forecast same for tomorrow, wouldnt you know it I am off to the hairdressers , needs cutting....I have been cutting lots of butterflies dies. its a new one and am very impressed with it .Lace wing butterfly. very delicate very much like Memory box and cheaper too. but so easy to use especially with the waxed paper...great minds think alike Sallie I have just put some waxed paper in the post for you to try....

Mo when I used to do Ice skating, Robin Cousins was a little lad so only pulling your leg..lol... ;-) ;-) look forward to seeing your new littlie, ours still hasnt made an appearence, but at least we know he will :-D :-D :-D

Sallie Report 28 Jan 2013 17:07

Oh Jean thank you so much for sending me some waxed paper, I'll owe you a small fortune.

Lace butterfly sounds lovely. What make die is it? I really like the Memory Box dies, some of them are very pretty.

Mo, Torvill and Dean were great, I was never too keen on watching ice skating until they came along. So many people around this area think a lot of them and of course with them coming from Nottingham.....they come from just five miles up the road from here, so are classed as a local couple.lol!!

Might see you all again later on.

Hello ladies.

I didnt get any panning photos, I was more concerned with wandering round the camp ground checking that nobody had any open fires as there is a total ban on such things at present, due to the drought we are now experiencing.

Our hospice shop sells all sorts of things: clothes (including handbags and shoes), furniture, old tvs (but they dont sell so well), books and mags, toys, china, glassware, golf clubs, a folding zimmer frame!, videos, cds, you name it, provided they are in working order and not too tatty. Forgot to add linen, cushions. Dont forget that $1000 = about 500 pounds.

I had a holiday from the shop yesterday as it was closed for Anniversary day. Today I am going to do some shopping and will call in at the shop as I like to meet the volunteers who work on other days.
