SuffolkVera Report 20 Oct 2020 12:35

Morning Gill, Mel and all

We had a bit of sunshine yesterday afternoon but we’re back to grey and wet this morning.

While OH was in the shower I ran the cordless vac around downstairs but my foot is throbbing now. I probably shouldn’t have done it but I don't want to leave everything to him as he is being very helpful. Yesterday he changed all the bedding on the two king size beds, including changing the thin duvets for warmer ones. Then he lifted several of the geraniums (pelargoniums) and potted them so at the first sign of frost they can be put under cover and he pulled up a load of dead foliage. Our tiny garden seems to need nearly as much maintenance as our old large garden.

That’s good that Sandra is learning how to be a housewife Gill and it sounds as though she is enjoying it. Hope your laptop doesn’t keep misbehaving. These computers are wonderful till something goes wrong, then they are a real pain in the wotsit.

I’m glad you enjoyed your solo walk AnnG. Try and do it as often as you can as it will just give you a little breathing space. Is T feeling any easier this morning?

You sounded a bit chirpier in your last post Frank which was good to see. I hope the tablets are helping you.

Big fortnightly wipe down for me this afternoon as well Mel. I’m not looking forward to it.

I’ve spoken to my neighbour this morning. I knew her husband was being treated at home for blood clots in the leg but he is anyway very vulnerable as he has survived two types of cancer and is also currently in remission from leukaemia. Without going in to all the details he collapsed at home and she called the ambulance. He was taken into the ICU and given a blood transfusion. He is quite disorientated but she has spoken to him on the phone and said he seems brighter. She has been given an hour’s slot to see him this afternoon. I asked how she was going to get to the hospital as it is some distance and buses are not very good round here. She has booked a taxi which she also did recently to go to an appointment for herself and they cost about £60. OH has said if she needs to go again he will take her even though he’ll have to sit in the car and wait.

I’ve just received a copy of the letter the fracture clinic sent my GP. Up till now everyone has given me the impression I had fractured a bone. According to the letter I have third, fourth and fifth metatarsal fractures, so 3 broken bones. The letter also suggests the GP discusses osteoporosis with me, though whether he will ring or not is anybody’s guess.

I started this a couple of hours ago but I was interrupted by a phone call and a delivery so it didn’t get posted and I should now be saying good afternoon, not good morning. Enjoy your day everyone.

Good afternoon Mel and Gil.

Pleased to hear that Sandra is getting on well with all she has to learn. I expect she is wishing that she decided to do this sooner.

I don't know where the morning has gone. Well the usual getting OH sorted and then a quick trip to Tesco (local). Dry out there but very windy, must remember to send you the photos of some lovely leaves (Virginia creeper I think ) that I took on the way from the shop.

garden bin has been emptied so I will have to start to fill it again now :-( :-(
Hope your order was OK Mel. Must write mine for Saturday.

I'm all wiped down and put away.

I must go and have a look on your blog Anng.

O Vera three bones broken in your foot no wonder you have been in so much pain all this time. I hopethey can get you sorted out so you are comfortable again. It seems we must all keep up with probles and get in touch with the docs if anything goes wrong and not leave it like we have in the past.

Where's our Frank this morning?????????

Annx

Annx Report 20 Oct 2020 14:24

Afternoon All,

It's brightened up here since the dull start this morning. Mrs O was out at 7.15am this morning looking at her plants with the floodlight on again. I didn't wait to see if she went up the close after.

Nice to hear from you Gill and hear that Sandra is keen and still learning about looking after herself. IT is fine while it works as Vera says. I hope your laptop is ok now.

Crikey Vera, 3 broken metatarsals, no wonder your foot was so painful. I mentioned about a bone scan in an earlier post, but I see your doc is on the case with saying about osteoporosis. It's important to know, so they can treat it and delay progression. OH can't have extractions at the dentist now, it has to be the hospital as your jawbone thins as well and can fracture. He didn't find out from breaking a bone at all, just from me badgering him to ask for a bone scan as he had been on an antacid for acid reflux for a few years and I'd read there was a risk. These antacids are thought to prevent absorption of calcium. I would ring the doc if he doesn't contact you shortly to make sure it is followed up. Your OH is good getting all those jobs done, including some tidying in the garden! He is good offering to take your neighbour to the hospital too as it's an expensive trip by taxi! Good luck with the wipe down!!

That's good the 'onslaught' is over now Mel. Did you get any subs this time? It's my turn at the weekend and it seems to come round so quickly. I want to look for a few different things to try this time, ring the changes a bit.

That was a good idea to go for a walk AnnG, good for the mind and body. I enjoy the change of routine and scene even when when I pop out in the car with my camera and I see you took yours with you and got some nice autumn shots. The Virginia Creeper looks a treat doesn't it.

I have had my hair cut this morning and was the only customer there. I'm pleased to have got it done before any further lockdown which seems inevitable. No disposable towels now, just lengths of a very absorbent paper towel were used. Payment as before was contactless as I paid the balance above £45 when they rang me the other day.

Better look at my list of jobs and homework now. The watercolour class yesterday was good and about still life so we have to paint a grouping of fruit or veg to send to her now. OH is watching an HMRC seminar online about business expenses, then has a meeting later!

AnninGlos Report 20 Oct 2020 15:04

Vera you crept in while I was not looking so I missed you. Oh quite a shock to know there are three broken bones. How weird when you didn't really do anything. And there was me last year fell in Wales hitting my foot and although it ached for a few weeks I am pretty sure I didn't break any bones. Luck of the draw I suppose.
OH seems brighter today, could be that he achieved one ambition this morning. He will still have the prunes though as I have bought them now!!
At the moment he is tottering round the garden looking to see what jobs need doing (at my request) so I have to keep looking out of the window to check he is atill upright.

Annx I enjoyed the walk and was pleased I thought to take my camera, nothing momentous to photograph but I do love trees and leaves so it suited me. the virginia creeper I took with my Iphone.

Our hair appointments are tomorrow it will be good to get them out of the way.

Found him down the garden. I had mentioned that his tomato baskets were too heavy for me to lift down. He had lifted them down and emptied the plants out so one less job for me to do. I had pulled up all the other tomato plants earlier and the french matigolds. He is so pleased with himself bless him that he has done a bit in the garden.

Frank Report 20 Oct 2020 16:01

Afternoon to you all.

I have had a phone call from Mental Health department at Daintre Hospital. Daventry. They have arranged for me to have an ECG and blood tests, at my doctors next Monday at 9.30 am.Then I have to go to the hospital on the 2nd November at 11.00 am. For whatever reason, I am not sure. I will ask the Dr or nurse on Monday, what's it all about.

Simon called over this morning, we had a good chat over a coffee. It would appear they have bought a two bedroom house in Cromer, Norfolk. for a holiday let business. From what he says, it's in a prime position, with potential rental of over £600.00 per week in the high season. From the photo's and description he showed me, it looks a nice place. He is retiring from FORDS on the 27th November. and taking redundancy and early pension. At 56 I say GOOD LUCK TO HIM. He will find a little job for two/three days a week. To help with the outgoings.

The Norfolk Council are offering £91,000.00 a year for a property like his, as a place for the undesirables, getting back into society. NO THANKS was his remark.

Ros has just come in with tea and cake, so I had better go snd eat that. xxxx

What lovely colour leaves AnnG, they must be a delight to look at each morning.

Sorry to hear you have three broken bones Vera, my mum has osteoporosis and has broken one of her bones in her foot, all she was doing was walking to her car, she now has to wear a big boot thing for six weeks. I hope your foot heals quickly.

My laptop seems to be behaving itself today, although I've probably spoken to soon and it'll crash again now. I still don't know what's causing it.

OH had a tooth out this morning so is in a bit of pain at the moment, he fell asleep on the sofa and has just woken up so I'm going to make him a warm drink.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Oct 2020 18:40

Trouble with those Viginia Creeper leaves they don't last long once they have turned red then they all fall off so you are left with bare stalks.

Oh's new battery arrived for the digger as he was'nt getting anywhere with the old one. Its now on charge overnight so we will see in the morning if it starts the digger. I hope it does after all the work he has done on it. we use it for so much in the garden.

Frank hope the ECG and blood tests go ok on Monday and they can do something for these attacks you keep having. One step nearer to finding the answer.

Pizza and chips for us tonight so nice and easy. I add a few bits to the topping too like peppers and chillis and a bit of peperami.

Annx

Annx Report 20 Oct 2020 18:53

Sorry to hear your mum has broken a bone in her foot as well Gill and I hope it is better soon. Six weeks is a long time to be having to wear a special boot though. So your poor OH has got rid of his troublesome tooth now. I bet it will feel much better in a day or two and the toothache will be gone which is great.

That's good they are checking you out and doing tests Frank. OH took early retirement at age 57 and has never regretted it. He found totally different work to what he did before, but nowadays more work comes looking for him than he wants, so Simon should have no trouble finding some part time work.

SuffolkVera Report 20 Oct 2020 19:24

Lovely photos of the Virginia Creeper AnnG. I know The leaves will drop soon but they are such a glorious colour at the moment. I haven’t looked at your photo blog yet as I need to do that on the desk top which is upstairs and I’m aching too much to go upstairs tonight.

It sounds as though the doctors are doing their best to get you put right Frank. I’m sure they will sort you out in the end. Cromer is a good spot for a holiday rental. Simon could do quite well there. It’s quite popular. I think it’s one of the few towns, might be the only one, that still has a proper end-of-the-pier variety show.

Sorry to hear your Mum has a broken bone in her foot Gill. I honestly don’t think my problem is osteoporosis but if I haven’t heard from the GP in a week or two I will get in touch with them and get it checked out.

Foot hasn’t been helped by standing and doing the wipe down this afternoon. No subs and just one item not available and that was only for the store cupboard. OH tried to help but I’ve got my system going and he was just getting in the way. I’m resting the foot now while OH is cooking our meal.

If you remember I did a swab test in August as part of a government survey. As that worked well they are doing it again with a much bigger sample of people and OH was selected so he did it this morning and a courier came to collect his sample. I hope they are getting some useful information from all these surveys as it must be costing a fair bit.

Dinner’s nearly ready so I’d better hobble out to the kitchen. I hope everyone has a good night’s sleep tonight. See you all tomorrow.

Annx Report 21 Oct 2020 09:11

Morning All,

You were up early too AnnG! I got up at 6.30am as OH's car had to be at the garage for 8.00am and I needed to give him a lift home. It's rainy here and dull so not a pleasant day. I'm arranging my veg for the still life painting at the moment and they keep falling over so I need to prop them up! The car will be ready at 11.30am so we will pick it up then. They rang a few minutes ago to say it needs 2 new tyres.......MORE EXPENSE as Frank would say. Mrs O was out in the front garden with the floodlight on at 6.30am again but I didn't wait to see if she went up the close

Morbing two Ann's and all,

Miserable old day here today grey and its been raining that fineish stuff that makes everything wet.

Ann I only had to have one new tyre when I had my MOT but other things too.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 21 Oct 2020 10:32

Morning both Anns and all

Grey and very wet today, just for a change! I had an atrocious night eventually falling asleep sometime after 5 am. OH brought me a CoT at 8 so I am feeling a bit heavy headed today. I am going to do some ironing and that might be enough standing on this foot for today.

Our neighbour has been given another slot this afternoon to visit her husband so OH is going to take her. She doesn’t drive and can’t keep paying £60 for a taxi so OH will don his chauffeur’s cap again. He’s getting very used to waiting in the car in hospital car parks. He says he’ll take a book but I bet he’ll doze off.

EDIT. Morning Mel. You just sneaked in ahead of me

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Oct 2020 11:24

Morning Mel, Annx and Vera. Still pouring with rain here.
Yes Ann I was up early as I got up for the loo and OH wanted his bed sorting out and his wheat bag heating, once up and about I stayed up, didn't have a bad night until 5am but then couldn't get back to sleep.

Hope all was well with the car. I had to have two new tyres for my MOT I blame all the potholes.

Vera a short stint of ironing and then rest. I have two shirts to iron downstairs and keep forgetting. I did dust downstairs earlier on before OH was up. We have hairdresser at 1200 so will need to start getting OH moving soon, takes ages to get his shoes on and done up. At least I can't do any gardening today so won't feel guilty.

Morning all,

Rainy old morning here quite a steady rain and the wind should get up a bit later .

Oh Vera three broken bones :-0 you don't do things by half do you , Do you think the boot would give you more support when you stand , you must have been in agony
Your OH is doing his good deed for the day taking your neighbour to the hospital, it's getting a bit chilly to sit in the car has he needs one of those insulated mugs or a little flask so he can at least have a hot drink .

AnnG the creeper on the fence is a real splash of colour in the garden ,I'll have a look at the blog later .

So not to bad with just two new tyres for the MOT then Ann .
Oh your no good at this Miss Marple thingy we still don't know what Mrs O is doing in the dark LOL

Son and DIL popped in this morning ,son was saying the teachers had orangnised bingo and sausage and chips night yesterday and included him again ,it was on zoom in the school with each teacher in their own class and he won some celebration cchocolates and a pot plant :-D he said he actually would have won a third time but he said I let it run so somebody else had a win .
Apparently they do lots of things like that through the year for team building .

The Gingerbread house is coming along nicely so far I've done the Base ,two ends and the roof ,now doing the front and back and I've also done some snow to go on the
roof :-D

Love to Jane as always <3

Frank Report 21 Oct 2020 13:01

Good morning AGAIN. (JUST LOST MY POSTING)

Same weather here, rain in the night and drizzle this morning.

The RAF Association have requested copies of Ros and My Pension entitlement. So I have copied them and Ros has just posted them. So things might be moving on the scooter finance. We can but hope.

Ros has a basket of washing to iron, so I have got the Ironing board out.. and the Basket of washing down from the top of the Fridge/Freezer. So that will soon be out of the way.

We have been thinking of CHRISTMAS. It's only 8 weeks away. Conrad and Jan. have suggested coming here for Christmas Dinner, then going on to Kerry's. I am thinking, that rather all the cooking and MESS. It might br better to book a table for the four of us, and eat out. It's something I have never considered, but it's just a thought.

I'm starting to get a lot of discomfort, on my left side, under my ribs. I can't think of anything I have done to cause it, so will keep an eye on it. If it persists, I will mention it at the surgery next Monday.

Time for a bit of lunch and a read. See you later. xxxx

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 21 Oct 2020 18:28

Very quiet on here , still raining but I don't think it's very cold out.

Fingers crossed you soon here about the scooter then Frank.

I should think it will be quiet in the restaurants this Christmas ,I see where they are fattening up more Turkeys then ever this year as they think there will be more people cooking Christmas dinners at home, I do hope these regulations change so we can have family here ,it seems silly that son could bring three of the children here and take them home and come back again with the other two all in the same day if they want but we can't have all of them together ,we'd still be mixing with them .

Shopping day tomorrow so it's wiping down day ......oh deep joy :-( :-D
