Mel Fairy Godmother Report 18 Oct 2020 22:14

The begonia I have had for three years. I put it in the shed in the winter but its late to start. This year I fed it with seaweed feed and it seemed to like it as it has never been as big as it is this year.

AnninGlos Report 19 Oct 2020 07:56

Mel ours is still flowering, do you put it in the shed while still flowering?

AnninGlos Report 19 Oct 2020 10:31

Good morning all, very grey, slightly misty 11 degrees and dry here.

Not doing a lot today. cooked some of our apples with sultanas for OH to have with his weetabix, hoping to get things 'moving'. He seems reasonably bright this morning and said he didn't sleep too badly.

Mandy yes it has all been dragging on a while now (from 31 July for his back).

Ann thanks for the suggestions, trouble is even at night he doesn't go to bed and stay there because he has to get up and walk around if he wakes up to relieve his back so a bowl of warm water would only be good for a couple of hours.
I suspect the days of feeling low are also connected to the covid restrictions of not going anywhere. Normally I could pop into town on the bus on one of his good days but I won't go anywhere that I could catch the wretched virus and bring it home to him. I am not actually shielding and we both have hair appointments on Wednesday but I am being ultra careful.

Some of you may have seen Cynthia’s thread about David Irvine who occasionally contributed to this thread. If you haven’t seen it, please read it as David has sadly passed on.

You may not know but he had pneumonia a couple of months ago and was in hospital. It appears that while there he fell and broke his leg again. He went back to hospital the very end of September to have this leg fixed.

Free of pain now David. RIP <3. Thinking of Ellen, his wife.

Annx Report 19 Oct 2020 11:40

Morning All,

OMG Vera! I knew David quite well and knew he was back in hospital but thought it was because he'd fallen again. I didn't realise he'd fallen in hospital. The poor chap, he'd had a hard time of it since his accident, then falling jumping over that wall, also in his personal life in latter years too. How sad. RIP David. <3

Morning all,

O what news for a Monday morning and love and wishes to Ellen. RIP David. <3

Gosh that knocked me back this morning. He did come on the thread a while ago, I just can't get over it.

Dry here this mroning and not much of a breeze but the big pond still has masses of leves on it which I shall have to go and fish out at some time today. There is some watery sun and I hope it manages to come out properly at some time today.

Oh has the digger all together again but the battery is no good and it tried to start this morning but then the battery died.

Hope you all had a reasonable nights sleep.

Ann, I am wondering if I am wrong about David falling in hospital. I’ve just re-read his post about it and it’s not all that clear. What he said was “....I have been ill with pneumonia and hospitalised again. While ill I fell out of bed and fractured my R. femur.....”, so I suppose he could have meant while ill at home. I hope Ellen was allowed to see him and that he wasn’t alone at the end. He had admitted to being scared of going back into hospital for the leg operation. It’s all so very sad.

Now my neighbour has been whisked into hospital. What a day!

AnninGlos Report 19 Oct 2020 12:57

Poor David I did see Cynthias thread and commented on there. I first had contact with him on here many years back on the 'depressions' thread, then on this thread and a couple of others. Ann yes he did have a lot of worries in his personal life many of which were magnified by the fact he spent all the time in his bedroom which left his imagination to work overtime. (at least I hope it was his imagination). I must have actually missed the fact that he'd had pneumonia and that he had fallen out of bed too. Poor fellow. Still he is hopefully at peace now and out of pain. My condolences to ellen.

I have just been for a walk, first down the road to take some books to the recycling people, then to post a letter, then I walked round the little local park, that was empty except for toddlers in the playground with their Mums, and just into the little copse down the side of the park and golf club. Lovely crunching through the leaves. good to see all the little ones and their Mums in the playground and hear their voices. On the way back one of the back garden gates opened and it was Mary who is a U3A member and a member of the photography group so I had a nice 10 minute chat to her. When I got back I dragged the garden bin out ready for collection tomorrow and pulled some weeds up in the front garden. OH was on the bed when I left but got up just as I got home so made him a tea and me a coffee and I sat and read with my coffee in the conservatory

R.I. P David, kind thoughts to Eileen, stay strong at this difficult time. Thinking of you. xxx

Not a lot to report from this end. Ros went off at 11.00 am to Towcester for her hair appointment. Just after she left, there was an Email on the village board to say the road was closed for road works. I hope there were diversion signs up, or she would be in trouble. Her appointment was for 11.30.

I have had a mammoth task this morning, fitting castors to the bottom of a new pouf, that madam decided she needed. four castor. four screws per castor. Glass's didn't seem to want to focus, on the job. But pleased to say all done and dusted.

I am about to start a Martina Cole book, I have read her books before, snd there is far to much STRONG WORDS. for my liking, so we will see.

I hope you and yours are all well, I will try to pop back later. xxxx

Afternoon all,

So sorry to read this news of poor David ,sending condolences to Ellen ,free from pain now David RIP

Vera I hope it's nothing to serious for your poor neighbour not a good start to the week for them.

AnnG it must have been nice to get the out for a little walk ,bucked you up a bit I should think .

Frank you sound a little brighter today and you've got that little job for Ros done.

It's been nice and sunny this morning ,got all my bedding dry and bath mats .
Colin has been outside painting the fence ,nearly done now just one more section to do.
We should have been having a log delivery on Wednesday but it's going to be wet so we've cancelled it ,we'll sort another date out for next week when son has a few days off and it's going to be dry .

AnninGlos Report 19 Oct 2020 14:59

Vera Oh dear I hope your neighbour is OK.

Yes Mandy it was good to get out in the sunshine and have an hour to myself.
I see you and Colin have been busy again.

Mel I don't think you answered my query re begonias, did you see it?

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 19 Oct 2020 16:28

AnnG I dig my bigonias up when they have nearly finished flowering but before the frosts start , I put them in a tray and when the soil is dry I knock that off gently and store them so I know which is the root and which is the top as one year they got knocked over and when it came to planting I couldn't tell which bit was the root I had to leave them until they started to shoot .
Maybe you could try and have a little walk each day Ann you don't have to go far just so you have a bit of me time as they say ,it's surprising how getting out just for a bit can revive you ,I know when I walk Max it's so nice to be out and feel the air .

Any news on your neighbour Vera ?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 19 Oct 2020 17:10

Sorry Anng. I wazit till they are dying back a bit then put it in the shed but this is supposed to be an annual begonia. Its called Glowing Embers and also comes in yellow but I hav'nt been able to get a yellow one for a few years. I leave it and take off the stalks as they die back and put it in a little pl;astic greehouse in the shed when its all dried out. Start watering it in the spring.

If you have begonias that make a corm like Mandy's you can do what she does and store them in the dry frost free. In March you can put them in a moist plastic bag of compost in the warm soemwhere. You will see them get little new shoots on the tops and then you cna pot them up.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 19 Oct 2020 21:04

I just looked up my begonia and it says they have a tuber which you can treat like a dahlia. I knew there was a lumpy thing on the top of the compost but I have never taken them out of the pot they came in only repotted it on.

My laptop has been crashing lately so I've had problems getting on here and staying on.

Love the watercolor picture Ann, you are very clever.

What a big garden you have Mel, lovely photo's.

Your pic was funny, but very true Vera.

Sandra is still learning new things and is getting along nicely with them now, still lots left to learn though, but she's getting there.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Oct 2020 10:24

Morning Gill and all,

We have sunshine but a very strong wind.

Its the big wipe down day today so I am getting ready for the onslaught.

Hope you all slept well and that all aches and pains are getting better.

Love and gentle hugs to Jane and hope she's feeling better after her tranfusion.

Gill that was only pictures f whats outside the back door and over the fields out the back. My garden stops at the big beech tree but we borrow next doors trees in the distance and the field. Glad Sandra is getting along well with her learning and have you heard anything about her flat yet??? Has she been watching the Christmas films?
