Mmm Mel
I don’t think I will tell him that as he has been helping me all day today. The thing is tablets are not always suitable for everyone and one of the possible side effects is stomach pain. As it happens today he has only taken paracetamol and has no stomach pain. He is a responsible adult if he has stomach pain it doesn’t cause me any problems only him so I have to let him decide. No way would
I tell him he is acting like a child Inwould not be so rude to him.

Mandy I don’t hold out much hope as my arm will still hurt when I lay on that side.

Yes I thought Frank said they were going to Devon today. Not good day to travel as you say. I think he said he was taking his laptop so we may be hearing from him.

We went to take our scripts to the surgery and noticed the traffic on the ring road was very heavy. Then the penny dropped that I'd read of an accident causing the M1 motorway to be closed both directions. We went home a different longer way to avoid the traffic and I gave up on going to fill my car up near theM1 junction......maybe tomorrow! :-S

I gave OH's hair a trim when we got back and then he did some of his complaints cases and I tidied up and chucked out some old magazines and newspapers. I need to get straight in here ready for the painting course that starts on Monday. I must varnish that flower pot tomorrow as it will need a few coats.

Some of you will remember Will Roe that used to be on the thread and his wife Carmel. He's just come out of hospital after having a pacemaker fitted and is recovering at home. He has asked to be remembered on the thread and for me to let you know.. He's always cheerful, looks after Carmel brilliantly and collects model cars.

Seemed an odd occurrence again this morning. I was awake when the security light at Mrs O's went off at 6.20am, so I got up to look to see if a cat had triggered it. It shines between the slats on our wooden blinds and lights the room up like a disco it is so bright. It was still almost pitch dark, but no cat. Then I spotted Mrs O next to her wallpots doing the usual deadheading. She then walked to the opposite side of the bungalow behind the van but I couldn't see what she was doing and was about to get back in bed when she appeared again in the spotlight and went marching up the close. That is the second time I have seen her do this at that time of the morning, so maybe she takes her exercise then? I wouldn't like to walk up the top end of the close in the dark as I wouldn't feel safe! It is out of sight round a bend and there is a field and hedge one side and a tall fence the other with back gardens the other side of the fence and no lighting. No-one could see you if you were attacked and I won't walk up there alone in the late afternoon in winter to post letters in the letterbox round the corner at the end! She wasn't carrying anything this time. Her hubby left in his van at 7.15am.

I hope all is ok with Gill and that Sandra's return is still going well. I expect M & M won't be happy at losing the extra income they had when she was with them.

AnnG could you prop yourself up with lots of pillows so your sitting/laying in bed and have a pillow to support your bad arm .

That's funny Ann i was only thinking of William the other day and was going to ask if anyone had heard from him lately ,nice to hear he is recovering from his op ,give him my best wishes please when you next talk to him .
Has anyone heard from Shirl lately ?

Mrs O seems a strange one , perhaps she has a nosey about when she thinks every ones asleep ,i don't think i would go wandering about that early in the morning .

Good morning all another grey morning but already 12 degrees so not cold. Had about 6 hours sleep (all together) last night so not bad. Just wish the swelling under my eye would go down it makes wearing glasses awkward.

Morning AnnG and all

I’m glad you managed some sleep last night AnnG. I had a good night for once. I did hear the rain in the night and it’s still pouring now and the forecast is that it’s set in now practically till tomorrow and then rain on and off till Wednesday. Great :-|

We gave in and put our central heating on last night, so the downstairs heating will be on now until about May. I am sure we don’t usually put it on this early in October but we have both been feeling cold indoors.

OH is driving me to the surgery shortly for my flu jab so I’d better get ready.

EDIT. Thank you Elizabeth. I hope you and your family have a good weekend too. Take care and stay safe.

Good morning Vera pleased you had a good night. It is still very grey here but only a bit of drizzle so far. We had enough yesterday to last two days.

My main problem today is that my glasses are off balance because above my scar the ‘pouch’ under my left eye is swollen. Being varifocalsbit makes reading difficult.

Was going to the shop for a paper but decided I can’t be bothered.

I have forgotten to send a list to the shop so I better get one down on paper or I shall forget everything.

Slept like a log last night and was up at 7.52am for the first time!! Oh was still in bed so I went back and then he woke me at 11am!!!!!!!!!!! so no morning for me which will make the day short.

Hope Jane is having a good weekend and perhaps seeing H & G. Sending love and wishes as always.<3 <3 <3

Morning all,

Heavy drizzle here and very gloomy , I think it's set in for the day .

AnnG glad to hear you managed to get some sleep last night ,I suppose it will be a few days before any swelling goes down so your glasses fit better.

Elizabeth I hope you have a peaceful weekend too and stay safe .

Vera hope all goes OK getting your flu jab and you don't have a sore arm like some have ,we don't have our jabs until November so we have a while to wait.

Mel you had a good lay in you must have needed it.

Rang son this morning as our outside light isn't working ,when I went to let Max out last night it didn't come on and it's only just over a year old , he will sort a new one for us and come and fit .
He's really enjoying his job ,yesterday all the teachers were celebrating getting through another week of schooling and were having Bacon rolls they included him too which I thought was nice .
He also came home again with a whole load of fruit and carrots that was left over from the Nursery snack fridge ,he said the fridge is loaded with fruit and there's not so many children this term so they asked if he would like to take it or it would just be thrown away ,what a waste .

Better get my beef in the pressure cooker ,we're having a nice stew today and I usually make enough for two days.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 3 Oct 2020 12:17

Mandy how lovely of the staff to include your son, especially with the left over snacks, I am sure he will be able to use them.
Yes it is just patience with the swelling and probably won't be right until I get the stitches out (ouch) on Friday. And this morning I got a letter saying I am due an annual blood test (which I knew) so have to make an appointment for that now. Certainly all things medical here at the moment.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 3 Oct 2020 13:34

Lovely that the staff treat your son as one of them Mandy. He’s obviously a likeable man doing a good job. It’s great that he is close enough to do little jobs for you as well.

I hope the swelling goes down soon AnnG. It must be awkward with your glasses.

That was a long sleep Mel. I envy you. I thought I did well last night as I put the light out around midnight, got up at 2 am to go to the bathroom but went back to sleep till 7.

We had a little trip around this morning - first the surgery, then B&Q for some light bulbs, then Farm Foods as they had a couple of good deals on. I got 2 huge bottles of Persil non-bio liquid detergent and 12 tins of Heinz baked beans for a lot less than they would have cost in Tesco or Sainsbury’s.

The flu jab was fine. I just have a very slight ache in the arm which I am sure will go off in a day or two. The nurse was lovely but looked about 14. I must be getting old as everyone else looks so young lol. I turned up about 2 minutes before my appointment time and gave my name through a closed glass door to a receptionist who opened the outer door but wouldn’t open the inner door till I had throughly sanitised my hands , then it was temperature taking and sit in the waiting room. This room is very large and only 4 people were allowed in it at a time. After the jab I was taken out through a back door.

I felt sorry for the girls at the door as some people were causing problems. I was only in the waiting area for 5 minutes but in that time 1 woman arrived 25 minutes early for her appointment even though we had been asked not to get there more than 5 minutes before our slot, a man arrived at the door and when the girl asked him if he had a face covering he said he would put it on when he got in the nurses room. The poor girl stood her ground and told him she wouldn’t open the door to him unless he was wearing it (he didn’t have a medical exemption). He was quite rude to the girl but did comply. Then another lady arrived and got through the first part and got to the temperature taking. The girl doing that was standing directly in front of the woman and reasonably close, holding the machine up, and the stupid woman pulled her mask off and stuck out her tongue! I don’t know if she thought this big machine was going to be put under her tongue or what she was thinking but I do wonder where some of these people keep their brains.

Having said that, most people round here are being sensible and careful and yesterday our Council area posted the lowest infection figures in the country, so I shouldn’t really complain.

I hope you are keeping warm and comfortable Jane <3. I also hope anyone else with aches, pains or problems has an easy day.

Time for lunch now.

MillymollyAmanda Report 3 Oct 2020 14:10

I think it's because all of sons children have gone to the school so he knows all the teachers well and the fact that he did the job for a few months before that has helped him settle in well .
Son also went to the school and so did Colin and I but there has been a few extra class rooms added .
When Colin and I went there they had open fires and they thawed the little bottles milk by the fire .

Oh Vera I think I would have had a bit of a giggle when that woman stuck her tongue out ,but she was very lucky that they didn't chuck her out those poor girls have to put with a lot don't they.

I think the rain has eased up a bit now ,when we had lunch it was tipping it down.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 3 Oct 2020 14:19

Vera that woman obviously remembered being aske to put out her tongue at some stage when visiting the doctor and also remembered the in your mouth thermometers that went under your tongue. Wonder where she has been all these years. We felt nothing from our jabs, either at the time or afterwards.

Mandy not quite sure what to do to bring the swelling down, I think it is either a small gland or maybe my sinuses on that side. I have tried holding a cold flannel against it but haven't any other ideas. I can't get the stitches wet.
I can't imagin still living in the town/village where I went to school OH grew up in Buckfastleigh and I grew up in Fareham hampshire and neither of us are anywhere near where we lived and have moved four times since we left Fareham.

Annx Report 3 Oct 2020 14:59

Afternoon All,

Steady rain and gloom here and no sign of it improving. I slept well again and feel much better for a good sleep. OH has gone to a match near Nottingham and has wrapped up well and has his big brolly. One of his older footie pals rang yesterday and was going to go to the same match and offered OH a lift!!!!! OH said no, but I wasn't happy about him seeing his pal there.......would social distance be kept from his friend if he didn't even know about not sharing his car? OH said with big brollies they would keep distance and he would wear a mask and that his friend would have been careful with being the age he is and his wife being vulnerable too. I said no he hasn't, not if he has been giving other people lifts or having lifts in their cars. Anyway, his friend had decided to go to a nearer match with an artificial pitch by this morning, as he doesn't like a wasted journey if a match gets called off if the pitch is too wet, so I was glad about that.

Oh Vera I couldn't believe that lady sticking her tongue out to have her temperature taken!! It sounds like they were well organised at your surgery, even if some of the patients weren't. It's good you have that job done now and did your foot hold out ok going in there and back out again?

Thank you for your good wishes Elizabeth and I hope you have a peaceful weekend too.

AnnG it didn't sound as if your OH gave the irritation in his stomach from the old tablets time to settle before giving up on the new ones as well. They may not have been the cause. Still, at the end of the day it is his decision what to do. That's a nuisance the face swelling affecting your vision with your glasses. Roll on Friday when the stitches will go and when it should fully settle down.

Mandy it sounds like your son is enjoying his job and it was nice he was included in the bacon rolls! It's good he was able to take the snacks home to save them being wasted. I expect the teachers had taken what they wanted too, but what a waste if they had been thrown away like you say. Someone hadn't been on the ball with what they ordered knowing there would be less children in school. At work we would have had 'public money being wasted' trotted out if something like that happened. OH has seen similar things happen at some of his schools. I hope you get your light fixed soon now the darker nights are coming and that Max could see what he was doing. :-S

I'd better see if I can write up my photography notes now so they make sense. I started to do it in the conservatory but got distracted watching a flock of Great tits and some Blue tits working their way through the shrubs and fences looking for food.

I hope Jane is comfortable and that our other absent friends are all ok.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Oct 2020 15:45

I ment to say thanks for the info on our William Ann. Its good that G's friend decided to go to another match so no problem there with social distancing. Its lovely when you see a load of birds together foraging for food. I wonder if they talk to each other because as soon as I fill up the feeders they all seem to appear from nowhere. Either that or they are watching me all the time. I know the Robins do that.

Anng I hope your swelling goes down soon as it can be a bit annoying when your glasses are in the wrong place for you to look though. Can you not put tem down your nose a bit and miss the swelling? You just have to move your head a little more to focus properly. I have to do that sometimes if I get a swelling under my eye.

We hav'nt heard from Frank????? Hope they managed to get down here ok.

Mandy that was nice of the teachers to include your son in the bacon roll party and what a lovely idea to give him the fruit for his children. I am pleased he is enjoying the work once again and it is'nt so bad if you know the people you ar eworking with. Fancy you all going to the same school!!

No Gill again. Hope she's ok.

I ordered some wreath rings the other day and ordered the wrong size!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was using 8" rings but when they arrived I can see they are smaller than the rings I usually use. Sould have ordered the 10" silly me. Anyway I can use them for other things.

Still not started that garland yet. Can't seem to get motivated.

Its still pouring with rain and windy here and it dos'nt give you any get up and go.

I did get up at 7.23am for the loo and oh was still sleep so got back into bed. He will leave me too late to wake me and then it puts me all behind for the rest of the day. There's not enough hours in the day anyway but that just makes it worse.

Fancy that lady sticking her tongue out to have her temperature taken. Must have been a long while since she had that done to think it was going under her tongue.

Annx Report 3 Oct 2020 15:45

That's amazing how you all went to the same school! 4 of the schools I went to have been knocked down since and another one is the Richard 3rd Visitor centre now.

This is the 10th house I've lived in across 2 counties. With mum and dad I lived in 7 places and 3 more since I was first married. Grandma's cottage, then a prefab, detached 2 bed bungalow, a flat for a year, a semi, a mid terrace in the city with a workshop for dad's business, a 3 bed detached house. Then when I was married, a 2 bed detached bungalow, a 4 bed chalet bungalow and now a 3 bed detached bungalow.

As for schools I went to 6 in total. It would have been 7 only I made such a fuss at the last school as I was in the middle of '0' levels, that my parents let me stay at the city grammar school I was at even though it meant 2 buses and an hour and a quarter journey either way including a half mile walk from the bus stop down an unlit country lane to home. Dad had a workshop in the city then and the way to it was near my school at one point so he would drop me off in the morning and I would catch the 2 buses home after school.
