Goodness Gill I can see that is a worry about your OH's teeth. Perhaps when things are more back to normal you could look to changing your Dental Practice? I'm sure you could find one through recommendation.
We're watching a lovely wild life prog about wild life in Arabia. It's amazing what the night camera picks up.

Mel, you have sent the rain here!!!!

All that sounded like more haste less speed. do you have to give post to the postman who delivers to you?

Ha ha Frank I like the seniors one but there is one I could'nt open it just had a blank screen. It was the Magpie one.

We jast had a huge clap of thunder. and the suns gone now.

Just done the Asda order for Tuesday so thats out of the way till I find something else to put on it!

Island

Island Report 25 Jul 2020 15:49

Hi all

Up and down like a deflated yoyo here. As if virus avoidance isn't enough, the gloomy weather continues.
I fear my, still green, tomatoes will get blight. Do I cut my losses and make chutney now or put my trust in August?

It was flying ant day here yesterday. We had no idea that we had a nest in the big pot next to the garden seat. I'm glad it wasn't me sitting there LOL

Stage one of shed tidy complete. Plenty more to go but bite sized chunks gets it done rather than get it all out at once - and put it all back as I have discovered with previous attempts.

AnnG, I have a hospital appointment next week - a step back into the big wide world!. They're only seeing two patients a day, 1xam and 1xpm. They asked me to turn up close to the time and not bring anyone with me. Apart from keeping virus risks low it will stop patients bringing an entourage as often happened pre virus. I would think they would make concessions though regarding 'special needs'. I'd give the department a call to ask them how they can make my appt easier for me.

I hope you are all well and enjoying your day

Oh, sorry AnnG, I haven't caught up with all the posts so thought it was today. I bet you're looking forward to seeing your daughter, have you seen much of her with lockdown? I noticed online this morning that England has an "R" rate of 1 again and some parts of England are above 1, it's quite a worry isn't it? Let's hope it doesn't lead the whole of England back into lockdown again.

Yes, it is a worry for OH FG, he didn't have any abscess's until he had those teeth out, but hopefully if he asked for antibiotics the dentist might give them to him. I hope he does as doctors at the surgery don't give out antibiotics for dental pain, they just tell you to go back to the dentist.

It sounds a bit of a palaver getting AnnG's card to her Mel, nice of the postman to wait though, I doubt ours would have. At least it arrived in plenty of time this time around. I wonder why the other things you've sent in the past took so long and this time it didn't.......very strange It's still cloudy here but thankfully no more rain, they say we could have a bit of a thunder storm later, I'm not looking forward to that.

AnninGlos Report 25 Jul 2020 15:53

Is it a smallish hospital Island. The one I am going to is Gloucester Royal, it is a huge hospital I think we shall both turn up then if he is not allowed in, after I have explained that I won't be able to hear anything without his help due to the masks, then he can wander on up the town and wait in the big under cover bus station.

Island

Island Report 25 Jul 2020 16:06

Possibly AnnG. It only has a volunteer run cafe and a WH Smiths, whereas the one in the next town - which comes under the same umbrella - has what you might call a 'concourse' of shops and huge waiting areas, more like an airport than a hospital!

Gillx Report 25 Jul 2020 16:16

We had a few flying ants mulling around outside yesterday to Island, I had to come in as they were getting in my long hair, OH was pulling them out, so we came in where it was safer LOL. Unfortunately we have a nest under our kitchen floor and for one day a year there are hundreds of them inside our kitchen. I now keep a spray in the bungalow ready for them to appear. The problem is I have to pull the fridge out to get to them, so if OH's in work I'll be struggling myself as he normally helps me pull it out. Then of course when I've killed them all I have to sweep them up and mop the floor....... fun and games lol. ;-) ;-)

Anng after a frist class post to Jane and Ann I thought it best to give it to Tim our postman as he empties the boxes and it seems to get there quicker if I give it to him. Other wise on a Saturday if I miss the 12 noon post it dos'nt go till Monday. He is good at taking mail from me and has done it many times in the past.

Sorry about the rain but its stopped here now for a while.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Jul 2020 16:59

I meant to say when I went to the shop this morning the man in front of me did'nt have a mask on. Then there was me with mine on and a young lad bejind me also had one on and then another man behind him without and the woman from across the road to the shop came after with no mask on so there could have been £400 in fines if they were caught.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Jul 2020 17:01

And that is the trouble Mel, they won't be caught. Yes stopped raining here now at the moment, funny old weather here.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Jul 2020 17:07

Gill why don't you get liquid nippon which you put on a tile of smething like that and keep it under the fridge and perhaps you could kill the nest before it gets too big. Thats if they still sell liquid nippon...........

Island good you have done part of your shed. When oh made me my new shed a few years ago it was twice the size and more of the old chicken shed made into a shed by mum. When I got all the tuff out of it and threw some away it still filled my new shed!!!!

I have four toms ripening in the shed. Hip hip hooray. Island don't make your chutney yet as there's plenty of time for them to ripen. Put an apply under them or a banana.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Jul 2020 17:22

Ages since I have seen liquid Nippon Mel, I always used to use that and it worked well, I don't like the powder it is so messy.

Island, tomatoes will go on ripening until October if the weather is good. We used to go away fro the whole of September and come back to find ripened tomatoes. :-)

Gillx

Gillx Report 25 Jul 2020 17:45

Thanks for the advice on using Liquid Nippon Mel, I've never heard of it before so I'll keep an eye out for it. That's naughty not wearing the masks, the rule's there for everyone's protection.

I've finally got one tomato ripening, unfortunately one of the toms that hadn't ripened was inside the pot so I think the trapped bird may of knocked it off when she was flapping her wings trying to get out. It's very small but I've put it on my kitchen window sill to see if it'll ripen.

I've been asking OH to have a sort out of his shed Island, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. He has to keep taking things out to get to the lawn mower. Why do men make things so difficult for themselves lol.

flappergirl Report 25 Jul 2020 17:49

Gill, just an idea! If your OH doesn't get any joy out of his Dentist on Tuesday, it might be an idea to go to the Chemist and have a word with the Pharmacist to see if he can recommend a mouth wash to help settle the infection. Meanwhile rinsing with warm salt water certainly brings relief, but not always a cure as these things can often need something stronger to shift them permanently! Its only a thought as mouth ulcer are so painful and can really get you down!
Miserable evening here! So supper, telly, bed in that order! We certainly won't be late tonight!

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 25 Jul 2020 18:03

It was a mixture of sunshine and grey skies till about 3pm but it has been pouring since then and still feels very heavy and muggy.

I wanted some milk and fresh veg and don’t have a Tesco delivery till Wednesday so I braved Sainsbury’s early this morning. OH said he would go for me but I’ve got to buck my ideas up a bit so I gritted my teeth and we went together. I was shaking before I went in but, of course, it was fine. There weren’t many people there and I went straight to the things I wanted and was out in less than 15 minutes.

Everyone seemed to be wearing face coverings. Do you think the people without masks at your shop,Mel, might have been exempt for medical reasons? I know someone with a lung problem who can’t wear a mask and also know of someone who is autistic and can’t cope with a mask. They are both exempt but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at them.

Like Mel I only got a blank page when I tried to open the Magpie video on the desktop PC but it opens fine on my iPad which really seems strange. Frank, you brought back a memory for me with your story of the boat trip from London to the Kent coast. When I was little we often had a few days in Margate in the summer and my grandad used to get the Golden Eagle in London, possibly at Greenwich, and come for the day. I don’t think he could have had many hours with us before getting the boat back but he enjoyed the trip. Happy memories.

I hope Lewis is OK Mandy.

I was reading at 3 am and I wondered if Ann was still awake and if Frank was up reading as well. Fingers crossed that we all have a good night tonight.

Gillx Report 25 Jul 2020 18:37

Thanks FG I didn't think of that, I'm open to any ideas at the moment as he's in a lot of pain and isn't sleeping properly.

Pleased to see your trip to Sainsbury's went well Vera, it is a bit of a worry but at least it didn't take you long and there weren't many people around. I was watching a programme on the Thames before, it was very interesting, there was an old ship going down the river and they had to open the draw bridge to let it through. I've never been to London so it was interesting to hear all about the river. Nice to hear of your childhood memories to. I hope you have a better nights sleep tonight.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Jul 2020 22:52

O that is good news Mandy. Thanks for letting us know.

FG I think there is a difference between ulcers and abcesses. I used to suffer with mouth ulcers as a child probably because I was always playing in the dirt somewhere in the garden and remember scratching my gums but my abcesses come from loose teeth and degeneration of bone. Corsodyl is the best remedy I have found. Its a bit like what they give you in the dentist to wash your mouth out with.

Brave Vera going in the hsop but it did'nt take you long did it. Hope you have more sleep tonight.

Frank I sent that thing you have to read to Ed next door and he said he could read it all as well. Mind you he is a publisher and has to read loads of books but he said he enjoyed it.

Gill is G working again now?

Morning all,

There's quite a strong wind this morning which is blowing the clouds across the sky but I can see lovely blue sky and the sun keeps peeping through,I think we should have rain later.

We are having a lazy day today we seem to have been on the go all week doing one thing and another ,we're having a curry tonight so that's nice and easy to do .

Shopping day tomorrow but I think it might be a rainy day so if it is I'll go Tuesday instead and hope it's not to busy I find Mondays are quiet and the best day to go.

Hope all those who have had bad nights had a better one last night ,Vera you did very well going in the shop yesterday ,little steps and you'll get there.
