Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Jul 2020 09:57

Morning ALL,

Grey day again today and its been raining. The old pigeons are cooing outside so I think I better fill the bird feeders up today.

Nothing planned for today except I have piles of ironing. With the nice weather I wash as much as I can but the ironing soon builds up as we both wear cotton things and I love a freshly ironed T shirt. I am having trouble with the fabric softener though. I am using the Comfort Lavender but it gives me a terrible mouth with the smell of it. I used to use Morrisons lavender and that was ok but this one is so powerful and dos'nt really smell like lavender at all. You know me with smells I just can't take certain things and have to tick to things I have been used to.

Ann that was a very early post and I hope you managed to get some sleep last night and don't feel too drained today. Hope you had a lie in.

Mandy what did the doc say about little Lewis? Must be good if he is playing on his tablet. I do hope its just a bug.

Going now as I am having a sneezing fit.

Bit of a grey morning here so have changed the bed and have washing on the whirlygig, bed remade!! Hopefully it will dry before the rain comes and can be put away. I'm afraid I do very little ironing these days really only if we're going out somewhere (posh!!) or away, but as we use mostly Easy Care, things don't need ironing on daily basis.
Yesterday I rang the Dentist as I've got a small abscess on my gum at the back. They were so helpful with advice and what to do if it doesn't clear, so I felt much easier. Luckily I've got a dental syringe that my Hygienist gave me ages ago so you can fill it with 'whatever' and target that straight onto the affected place! saves rinsing your whole mouth and is very effective.
Today is pills and a bit of shopping - it's all go here!!!!
Hope your Grandsons temperature is nothing serious Mandy and that everyone has a pleasant day.

Frank Report 24 Jul 2020 11:48

Good morning girls, Very dull here also.

Here's a funny story. We have a CHAIR BED that we don't use. It was in the conservatory for me to sit on, while I watched football. I mentioned that Martine and Ros had a sort out in the conservatory, and the CHAIR BED was all cleaned and covered and put in the garage, (JUST) Martine put it on Market Place, and a woman called to see it this morning. OH she said, I don't think it will go through the LOFT HATCH. I said WELL it is a bed, what were you expecting ? Evidently something a lot smaller. Silly Moo. I have rung the Heart Foundation shop in Northampton. They are collecting it next Wednesday Morning. So that's out of the way.

Ros bought Tracy next door a box of Choch's. to say "thank you" for putting and getting in the bins every week. Pam has put a notice on them "SHARE" Some hope there, they will be in her bedroom away from her M & D. lol lol

Harvey is off to Bristol to see Jamie and Allison tomorrow, staying overnight. He is taking the box of knitted baby cloths that Ros has done, together with the baby powder, shampoo and everything else she has bought. There won't be much they will need to buy, to get them started, with the new BABY.

Steak, Mushrooms, Onions and chips tonight, with few frozen peas or Baked beans, for me.

Ros has gone to Tesco for odds and sods, that we need. Maureen across the road, called over this morning to ask Ros if she needed anything from WAITROSE. We have never shopped there, so why she would ask is anybody's guess.

Still full of acts and pains. I thought after a nice HOT SHOWER it would have eased, but no such luck.

I am going to send my Nephew Garry my FAMILY TREE and my little story of my life. I hope he will enjoy the read, and also get a lot of information about his ancestors. I am so pleased that he wants to know about his distant relatives. Who knows he might even go back further than I have. !!!

Had I sold the BEDCHAIR, I would have treated Ros to lunch out on Sunday. I still might, and give her a surprise. It will save me cooking also, which will be nice. !!!

No breakfast this morning, so am going to get a coffee and Toast and Pate. (I think there is some in the fridge) If not a sarnie of some sort.

Be good, and stay safe, one and all. xxxx

AnninGlos Report 24 Jul 2020 12:38

Maybe the ladt thought the bed chair folded right down. I think some do Frank.
Ros won't know what to do now the baby clothes etc have been taken to the prospective parents. She will have to find another cause.
Sorry you are still achey Frank, no fun getting older is it?

FG Hope you managed to get the washing dry without it being rained on.
I hope the sore tooth soon improves for you

Mel I have stopped using fabric softener and can honestly say I can't see any difference.

Mandy, there is nothing on my appointment letter to say about getting in to the hospital. we actually go into a large main concourse with a costa coffee shop and W H Smiths shop first so I hope we are able to access that and hope OH is able to wait for me there. It is all very open and is where I need to go for batteries for my hearing aids. I really need OH with me to interpret what people say behind masks as I can't hear them. You have me worried now, didn't think of him not being allowed in with me.

Annx Report 24 Jul 2020 20:36

Evening All,

I had a bad night as you noticed Mel and did have a lie in till almost 10.00am and yes Mandy I feel like my battery is run down today! It sounds like Lewis is not feeling too poorly so I hope it is just a bug and a mild one at that.

Gill I have recorded all those progs so will be watching it soon! There have been some lovely things made haven't there.

AnnG, the garden centre that we see into the kitchen and them washing up at the sink has a 5 star hygiene rating too! :-) We have decided when we do eat out it will be at Ullesthorpe Court, which is a Great Western Hotel now (your OH would like it as it has a golf course!). There are plated roasts instead of carveries now.Seating was already well spaced and they have a large outside decked and partly covered area too, so we could sit outside even if it rains. They introduced hand sanitisers weeks before the lockdown and their Lincoln's bar seems little known as it was never busy during weekday lunchtimes. It is also out in the sticks and far from the city. Like Mandy's sister, OH wasn't allowed to take anyone to his hospital appointment with him. I would ring them and explain about your hearing as there must be exceptions for various reasons.

Jane I think your hair looks smashing and think I prefer it......looks youthful!! :-D Do you like it or does it seem a bit strange at first? What did Chris and James say?

I bet Alison will be thrilled with all the things Ros has bought or made for the baby Frank. Do they know the sex of the baby or has Ros stuck to neutral colours for the clothes she's made? Perhaps Maureen thought you might need some basics like milk or bread that everyone sells? It was nice of her to offer to help. It's good you have someone collecting your bedchair as they take up useful space. Good idea to get Garry working on your family tree too! He's bound to get the bug if he's like us!

FG I am interested to know what advice your dentist gave you about managing your abccess as I have had a small one too since the start of the lockdown. I have just been rinsing with salt water.

It was my zoom meeting with my friends today and the one who lives alone in a flat and is still under lockdown is getting quite fed up now which isn't surprising. Another is off to Norfolk next week to stay with friends for a few days.

Our local paper is asking for examples of what people have been inspired to do during lockdown, craft, photography, painting, sculpture etc so I have sent the picture of me with the pony that I painted to see if it is accepted. Successful entries will be put in an “Inspired In Lockdown” exhibition, which will go on show when New Museum and Art Gallery reopens to the public.

My eyelids are dropping so I think an early night for me.

good morning from a wet Gloucester. Annx hope you slept better last night, I s;ept ok until 5am then laid awake, always happens when I have a hospital appointment to 'look forward' to.

Not doing much today, just a trip to local Tesco for the paper with the TV in. Meal tonight is supposed to be barbecued but can't see that happening if this rain continues.

Annx that sounds like a reasonably safe place to eat. I am sure that would be ok when you feel you can do it. I do realise that it is different in your area though so maybe wait until the rate of new infections has gone down to your satisfaction.
Are you working on the latest task of the flash fiction?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Jul 2020 09:35

Morning AnnG and all,

Rain rain and more rain here this morning and its wet wet wet.

Its one of my boys next doors birthday today but I can't remember if he is 10 or 11. I think he must be 11 as I had a pic sent of the first day at school and the last day at the primary school. It will be strange for Sam when his brother is'nt there anymore and odd for George when he has so many more pupils around him in the next school as our school is quite small in the village.

Oh can't get on with his shed painting as its so wet today and I don't think its going to be any better till Monday maybe.

So not a bad sleep last night then AnnG. I was nearly dropping asleep at the table yesterday so went off to bed about 1am for a change.

flappergirl Report 25 Jul 2020 10:57

Cloudy here but warm, so I'm sitting outside for the minute!!
Are the boys next door your Grandsons Mel? I tend to forget how old mine are sometimes particularly the youngest on!!! :-(
Annx, I was able to talk to a dental nurse which was lucky! She advised me to use Corsodyl three times a day. If possible use a syringe and direct it straight onto the ulcer, otherwise a cotton wool soak squeezed directly onto the spot will do, spit out the fluid after 2mins. Don't rinse! Don't have anything to eat or drink for an hour, also you shouldn't use it for an hour after cleaning your teeth as it doesn't work with toothpaste !! Apparently even when your ulcer is healed it's best to go on treating it for a couple of days just to make sure!! Bit like taking all your penicillin even though you feel better! If the ulcer doesn't clear, ring back and the Dentist will look at it and advise accordingly! Obviously this doesn't necessarily app!y to all dentist's!
I hope this isn't too much of a rigmarole, but it has worked for me and my ulcer has started to clear really well!
I think it's getting colder so I'm off indoors!

Morning all,

Sunny here now but it keeps scudding now and again .

AnnG I didn't mean to worry you saying about the hospital ,I'm sure your OH will be allowed in with you if you explain.

Mel it sounds as if the workshop is going to look good with sun flowers on ,how is the cutting out going ?

The Covid tests came yesterday ,DIL had to do one too although she has no symptoms but I suppose as she works at the surgery she had to do one.
Lewis seems much better so we're keeping our fingers crossed .
How long before they get the results I don't know.

I picked a load of Toms from the hanging basket ,a load of runners and more peas ohand four huge cues .

Gillx Report 25 Jul 2020 11:31

Morning all

We've had some rain but the sun is out now, plenty of cloud still around so I'm expecting more rain before the day's out.

I hope the Covid test come back negative Mandy, OH's only took a few days so hopefully it'll be the same for Lewis and his family. You're doing well with all your veg. I noticed one of my toms is starting to turn red at last, it's only small so I think the plants mum gave me are cherry tomatoes. We still haven't had anymore since we gave them tomato feed, but it's early days so maybe some of the flowers will eventually give us some more tomatoes.

Yes Ann, watching my Aunt on "Home is where the Art is" was really strange, I haven't seen her for ages and couldn't get over how much she's aged. She's very chatty now, I remember her as being quite quiet, she still has her sense of humour though. I hope you had a better nights sleep last night and feel better for it today. Good luck with your painting, I hope it's chosen and put on show when New Museum and Art Gallery reopens. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Fancy asking if a bed chair would fit up in the loft Frank, what a silly question. At least you have someone to take it now so it won't be in the way anymore. It sounds like Ros has been very busy with all the baby clothes, they'll be so grateful of everything and all the shampoo, powder etc.. I hope you're feeling a little better today and your aches and pains have gone.

I think if you explain things AnnG your OH would be allowed in with you. Hope the weather improves for your BBQ

Love the pic Jane, the hair cut suites you. It sounds like you've had some fun times with your family and managed to eat a few things to.

That was good advice off the dentist FG, my poor OH has two abscess's and is in a lot of pain with them, each time he goes to the dentist, he just cleans them out. He has another appointment on Tuesday so he's going to ask him for some antibiotics as they don't seem to be going and it's keep him up at night now. I hope it works for you and your mouth is better soon.

Happy birthday to George Mel, hope he has a lovely day. I hope I've got the right boy, I had to work it out from your post.

I had a bit of a shock last night when I went to shut the greenhouse door, a female Blackbird had got in there and couldn't find her way out, she kept trying to fly upwards and was hitting the greenhouse roof. I opened the door fully and kept an eye on her from a distance, she eventually found the open door and after a few minutes flew away. The poor thing must of been terrified when she saw me, she was flapping her wings all over the place, thankfully she didn't break any of the glass in her panic to get out. I was very worried she'd hurt herself, but she seemed okay when she flew away.

Frank Report 25 Jul 2020 12:27

Good afternoon all (just)

No rain here yet, but the forecast is we will get some later today.

Ros is outside with the hedge trimmer, cutting back the Wisteria, It's grown so big over the years, and is now growing down Pam and Denis's garage. I think Ros is going to cut that back also.

Maureen across the road has had her ROOF completely cleaned back and front. The people who did it have also treaded it with something to stop the moss growing. At the moment the roof sticks out like a "PIMPLE ON AN ELEPHANTS BUM." I hope it fades as it weathers.

Another IFFY sort of night. Kept waking with the cramp in my left leg, (BOY DOES THAT HURT) My calf is very sore this morning. I'm all showered and shaved and dressed. For a change I have put on a pair of Black Slacks with a blue shirt. Was thinking of trying to walk to the pub for a pint, but I think it will be to much for me, to walk that far., and I don't want to bother Ros. So will look at my Family tree instead.

Gill there is nothing worse than a bird trapped in a Greenhouse or shen, Even worse is when one falls down the CHIMNEY and fly's around and around, banging into the windows, and SH@@@ing everywhere. Thank goodness it's only happened here twice.

I will have to start thinking of presents for Ros's Birthday, I know it's not until Sept. but time seems to fly past.

First time ever. I went to my draw to get a clean handkerchief, and there wasn't one there. I do tend to keep a clean on on me, especially if I am going out. Just something I have always done ,since being a young man. OLD HABITS DIE HARD. lol lol.

What are you all up to today. ?? Whatever it maybe, do it with care, I don't want to hear of any mishaps. See you soon. xxxx

O dear I knew I had'nt put my name on it and I made the postman wait while I addressed the envelope and found a stamp but at least it has come in good time. I was worried if I put it in the post box it would take a week and two days like Ann's and Jane's birthday cards did.

So I will now say Have a great day what ever you are doing on your special day

Lots of love and wishes Mel xx

Thank you Mel, I shall leave it in the envelope until we go to daughters where we will be for our anniversary. You have written in it just not put your name. I did guess it could be you but we have good friends in Newton Abbott and the post mark was Exeter and they have been known to send cards unsigned as well.

Oh dear Gill. I can't understand your dentist not giving your OH antibiotics when the ulcers obviously weren't healing! Perhaps we're just lucky with our Practice as they're very thorough and always check for various ailments every time you have a checkup or see the Hygienist.
Raining now!!! We were so lucky with last w/end, I think this one will be very different! Mr Fg has just prepared our lunch so better go and eat!!!

Gillx

Gillx Report 25 Jul 2020 13:38

I'm a bit concerned over the hygene at the dentist FG as OH didn't have any abscess's until the dentist took his teeth out. They were taken out one at a time over two weeks and each time he ended up with abscess's which are keep him awake at night. I think he might insist on antibiotics when he goes back to the dentist on Tuesday as he can't carry on like this, he's sleeping sitting up on the sofa every night so not getting a proper nights sleep which is making him a bit grumpy......poor man.
It looks like you've got the rain we had earlier, it's sunny now but still quite a bit of cloud around.

I see the mystery of who sent the card is solved now AnnG. I didn't know it was your Anniversary. Happy Anniversary, hope you have a lovely day with your daughter.

You're right Frank it's quite a disturbing experience seeing a bird trapped, the poor thing looked terrified. You brought back a childhood memory when you mentioned birds being stuck in the chimney, I remember one being stuck when I was very young, probably around the age of 6, I can remember a man coming around and putting a big sheet over the front of the chimney and trying to catch it, the bird was black with soot and managed to fly around the sheet and flew around the living room leaving black marks everywhere. The man eventually caught it in a big net and let it loose outside, but poor mum had quite a bit of cleaning to do afterwards. Luckily it only happened once, but for a 6 year old it was quite scary watching a bird flying around in doors and I was not able to open the door to get out as it had to be kept shut until the man had caught the bird. It made such a racket to, probably because it was so frightened and it kept flying towards the window which was a fixed one so couldn't be opened. Thankfully it was okay, unlike our living room which took mum quite some time to clean. I hope your leg isn't to sore after the cramp, there's nothing worse is there. I was woken up with hiccups of all things last night, so I got up and had a drink of fizzy pop, that always works and I managed to get back to sleep straight away. I hope you have a better nights sleep tonight.

Nothing much planned for today Frank, I'm just catching up with some programmes off my Sky planner, it's quite full so I need to watch some of it now. With all the rain we've had this morning, gardening is off my to do list for today. I still have a bit more sorting to do, so I might do that later, once I've cleared some of the planner.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Jul 2020 14:22

gill, thanks for the good wishes but our 60th anniversary is not until 27 August and we are not going up to stay with daughter until 16th August. Mel was worried the card would take a long time to get here.

Frank OH gets cramp in his legs, painful isn't it? I get pains in mine but it is not cramp.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Jul 2020 14:35

Anng I had just written inside the card when the postman came and I had to rush out the front door before he left and ask him to wait while I wrote the address on the envelope and then I picked up the wrong book with the addresses in and then I could'nt get the stamps out of my purse so it all took about 5 mins so thats why I forgot to put my name in it.

Its been raining all morning and now its brightening up a bit and I can see a bit of blue sky and the suns sort of out.

Off to write Georges card now and find something for a present .
