Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Jun 2020 18:22

Vera I pick up the scripts from our local shop where I get the paper not a chemist so no pharmacist there.

I am wondering if I have had a midge bite near it as it itched yesterday when I noticed it was red.

You sound as though you have got on well inthe garden today Ann. Soon be all done and you can use your new lookout.

I made a posy for mums grave and oh told me I must'nt take it up there as I have to go on Ralph's land to get to the church so I have put it by one of my fairy statues on the edge of oh's pond where mum had a pond once.

After that it had started raining so I came in and made scones.

Oh came in and made a cuppa so I will see if the scones are cool enough to do now.

Dear All

Hello

As of next week, most retail outlets are opening up.

For others quarantine because of pre-existing illness comes to an end.

So there will be more people around.

May I implore you, please take extra care of yourselves and your families.

Travel safely.

Lots of best wishes
Love Elizabeth, EOS

Thank you Elizabeth and I don't think we will be acting very differently to now for a while longer. Take good care yourself too.

The bite does look nasty and a bit swollen Mel. I like your sweet little posey too and your scones look very nice. OH is hankering after more scones so I might make some during next week.

Oh yes AnnG, I have a head like a sieve lately! It is Humbrol paint in tiny tins. I found red, yellow and black and have used the red and the yelIow up to now and will use the black tomorrow. I was amazed that it was still useable, as I brought it with me when I moved here 20 years ago and must have already had it a few years then. The lids were rusty but the contents were perfect. I had an idea that if I can find a suitable stone as we are digging to fix these rocks and slates, I might try painting one as a hedgehog with my acrylics and varnish it. Then again my head is full of ideas I never get round to and it would have to be a suitable stone.

Gill I have had a small soft lump on my gum that I think is an abscess since the lockdown. It is smaller at times and is near a tooth the dentist said wouldn't have a long life. It doesn't hurt so I am just keeping an eye on it for now.

We dropped our prescriptions off in the next village after teatime and OH tried for the third time to use the machine outside Santander to record his cheque and it still won't accept it. It will be out of date soon. They have marked out the one way system on the pavements and widened some of them by putting cones about 2 feet into the road along the edge. As we returned and were about 100 yards from home we saw an ambulance with 'Isolation' printed across the front parked outside a house so it would seem likely to be some poor person with virus symptoms.

We have ordered sunday lunch from the same place again for tomorrow, so we'd better do things in the garden in the morning, weather permitting as we won't be able to bend over after we've eaten it.

The police helicopter keeps circling so it looks like something has happened on the M1.

Good morning all,

Not a bad start to the day but I don't know whats in store for later on. We have sunshine at the mo plenty of blue sky and white clouds but that could all change in an instant.

I am going to ask again if our scripts are in the shop today. The receptionist said they would be there by Thursday. They can either be picked up on a Tuesday or Thursday giving them three days to get them ready for collection.

My arm is still red this morning so I think I shall ring the docs tomorrow and maybe send the pics I took of it and see if I can get some antibiotic.

Hope you all had better nights last night.

Sending love and wishes to EOS and thank you for your kind words. WE don't go out much at all so its not really different for us.

Gillx Report 14 Jun 2020 10:08

Morning Mel, morning all

Your tick bite doesn't look to good Mel, good idea to send the pictures to the doctors, hopefully the antibiotics will kick in quickly. Love the little posy and your scones looked delicious.

My lump sounds just like yours Ann going down then up again, I've had it for a while now, but like I said it doesn't hurt so it can wait until it's safer to go out to the dentist, although I'm not sure if our dentist is open yet. Did you find out what the police helicopter was for? I hope your OH can sort his cheque out soon, has he tried ringing the bank for some advice?

I should think your July appointment should be okay AnnG, if not you can always cancel and re-book it for a later date.

I was busy all day yesterday cleaning my living room and halls carpets, I also washed the bedding and some clothes, it took hours to get the marks out of the carpet where OH sits and it's still not all gone, if I clean it anymore I'll wear the carpet away. OH was asked to do an extra hour at the end of his shift so he was late coming in, he then cut the lawns as the weather forecast was going to be bad, good job he did them when he did as half an hour after he'd finished we had thunder and lots of lightening for ages. I didn't think it was safe to go on my laptop in that weather. Luckily I'd already had a bath, so we watched a programme I'd recorded and went to bed. OH always falls asleep on the sofa after work and I was starting to fall asleep myself, so we both had an early night. My arms are quite achy today, especially the one I hurt when I was breaking up the Red Robin plants the other week, so I'm going to have an easier day today.

The pork is in the oven slow cooking and the last load of washing is on the line. It's a bit cloudy but the sun comes through them every now and then, it's lovely and warm so the washing won't take to long to dry, so long as the rain doesn't come back that we had last night.

I’m here now Mel. Been a bit busy this morning, just general jobs of tidying and preparing dinner which is now cooking. All the week we have our main meal around 7 pm but on Sundays we usually have it at about 2 pm. Today it’s roast loin of pork with roast pots and parsnips, carrots and cabbage, followed by apple strudel and cream. Right now I have a nice glass of Sauvignon and OH has a glass of his favourite red. Just realised I’ve forgotten to take the apple sauce out of the freezer so I’ll have to microwave defrost it.

Your scones look yummy Mel and the posy is very pretty but that tick bite doesn’t look good. Will you contact the doc tomorrow?

Carpets do get very black where we sit don’t they Gill? I’m always trying to clean the two little patches where our feet go. In our last house we had a solid oak floor laid through our hall and lounge and it was lovely. It cost a fortune but was worth it. It looked good and was so easy to keep clean. I’ve wondered about having a wood floor in our lounge here. I thought we shouldn’t have it as we have underfloor heating but i’ve been doing some research and apparently it’s OK, particularly if we have what they call engineered timber rather than solid hardwood. I’ll need to work on OH. It might take a while till he thinks it was all his own idea :-D

I’ve wondered where Frank is too. I hope he is OK. Thinking of Jane as well <3

Meat is “resting” so I need to get the veg on and gravy made. Have a good afternoon everyone.

Afternoon all,

I'm here Mel we had the family here this morning ,well some of them as there would have been to many if they all came so the three oldest stopped at home ,Jake is old enough to look after them and they are all sensible any way .

Mel thank you so much for the parcel you should have seen Max when i pulled the lead out :-D it's a lovely lead and very comfortable on the hand ,the water bowl is outside filled up in the shade and the other bits i have put away in the christmas box ,the little cottage is on the mantel piece so many thanks xx
I thought your posy was pretty the scones looked good are there any left .
That place on your arm looks nasty i hope you can get some thing from the doctors tomorrow before it get any worse .

Ann it's when you see some thing like that it makes you really think about the virus ,i was a bit shocked when that ambulance came for one of our neighbours a few weeks ago seeing them all dressed in the white suits ,luckily she didn't have it it was just a bug of some sort .
Hope you enjoy your Sunday lunch again today and it is as good as last weeks ,it looked tasty .

Hi EOS thank you we will and i hope you and your family all keep safe too .

Oh Vera once the photo's come out its the day gone ,but it's so nice to look back at all the fashions ,have you remembered who the chap was ? maybe it was a photo that got mixed in with yours when it was developed ,we've had odd ones found in the packet when you went to collect them ,i remember having some cows in one photo and no way did we take photo's of cows !!! :-D

Sounds as if you had quite a storm yesterday Gill .
Enjoy your roast pork .

When the family came today i asked Lacey what she would like for her birthday she said she would like an afternoon tea party ,so DIL is doing little sandwiches and cakes and hunting for those little cake stands on line to make it a proper afternoon tea for her :-D i meant what present would she like but she was more concerned with having the tea party bless her so i never found out what she would like for her birthday .

Love to Jane if your looking in <3 <3

Mandy oh sent Stephanie his niece and aftern oon tea hamper from M&S she loved it. It all came in a little grey basket which she uses to put things in.

Glad you liked the lead. It the one I won at the dog show a few years ago and the dogs bowl was last year. I forgot I was going to send you the lead and found it in a box ready to be wrapped up and I had put it under the bedroom unit. When I got the box out I was surprized to see what was in it.

Sending love to Jane. <3 <3 <3 <3 its this week she sees someone, did'nt she say the 17th.

Elizabeth, hello and thank you for your good wishes. I hope that youtoo are keeping well and staying safe.

Annx a Humbro, little pots used for airfix, not that I have any but have load os large pebbles round the water feature. Mel, did you find out if your scrops were there today, not really good service that you are getting is it.

Gill, do you have a carpet cleaner? That is my OH's favourite toy, it is a wonder he had not cleaned our lounge carpet away. It is a hotel quality one and is 26 years old but is still, although a bit faded, as good as new and gets cleaned often as it is on the through route from the garden to the front door and kitchen.
Hope you enjoyed your pork.

We have lamb shank tonight.

you had pork as well Vera, hope yours was good as well. also hope you feel better today and have more energy. I think this situation saps your energy.

Mandy lovely to see family, lucky you. A tea party sound a lovely idea, I hope she enjoys it and that you can find a suitable present for her.

Gillx Report 15 Jun 2020 11:12

Morning all

Bright and sunny here today, although it's forecast rain later.

Thanks for the bedding Mel, I love it. It arrived at 7.30am this morning, the postman woke me up ringing the door bell. He did appologise for being so early and kept social distance when I went to the side gate to pick it up. He left it lent up against the gate.

I opened the parcel but just before I did I asked OH to turn the washing machine on, everything was in the machine he just needed to switch it on, no problem there I hear you say, well, I nipped to the loo, only gone a few minutes and when I came back into the living room, the bedding was missing........yes, you've guessed it, OH had put it in the washing machine before turning it on. Luckily it was a white wash and the bedding was a light colour. So I didn't have a chance to look at it properly until I pegged it on the line........Men, they do daft things sometimes don't they? LOL.

I'm so pleased you sent me a sheet and two pillow cases as well Mel, I wasn't expecting those. When I washed my bedding the other day I noticed the valance sheet was going a bit thin in the middle and ready to go into holes, so I've put that under the mattress so only the valance shows, it hides the things I have under the bed and the valance bit of the sheet is okay, so when the flat sheet is dry I'll pop that on the bed. The pillow cases were a god send as OH pillowcase never comes up as clean as mine, probably his mucky head lol, so the two you sent me will replace them to. I love the pretty pink flowers on the quilt cover and it goes perfectly with the pink flowers on the bedroom wall paper. Thank you so much for thinking of me.

I'd love a solid oak floor Vera, but like you said it's very expensive. I might look into the engineered timber you mentioned if it's as good as solid wood but cheaper. We have wooden floorboards but they're not good enough to do anything with, we were told when we had one of our floors replaced it wasn't the right kind of wood to stain and walk on all the time. I think it's soft wood, or something like that, I can't remember exactly what he said with it being 12 years ago. Good luck with your photo's, if you're anything like me you'll spend more time looking at them, than sorting them out LOL.

How lovely Mandy, Lacey wanting an afternoon tea for her birthday, just the right thing in lockdown. Have you decided what to buy her as a gift yet?

The pork we had yesterday was delicious, it fell apart and was very tender, there's some over so I'm going to add some veg and gravy to it for tonight's meal. OH is working a night shift 8pm to 8am tonight, all the shift patterns have changed and are now all over the place. On his next shift on Thursday he's on 10am to 10pm for three days, he can't eat a heavy meal just before bed, so I don't know what he's going to do about eating. I'd of thought he could buy a meal at work, but he doesn't know, so will have to ask. If he can't then it'll be sandwiches, which isn't a healthy diet at all.

Going to check the bedding on the line now, it's been out since 9am, so hopefully it'll be dry now.

Gillx Report 15 Jun 2020 11:14

I forgot to say, yes I do have a carpet cleaner AnnG, a Vax one, it's quite heavy which is why I think I was so achy the day after. My carpet wasn't very expensive and has been taken up a few times for the electrics to be altered, so now it's got a few wrinkles in it. It's needs stretching back onto the gripper again, but with it being quite old I'm thinking of getting rid of it and putting a wooden floor down instead. It would last longer and be quicker and easier to clean.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 15 Jun 2020 12:05

Morning All,

Gill I am so pleased you like it and the colour matches. Also that it got there safely.

I did'nt check to see if it was the one with a small burn hole in it but hope its not that one!! but that won't matter and now you have a spare set you won't have to worry about getting the bedding dry to put back on the bed. Enjoy..........

I have done an Econsult with the doc this morning and the receptionist talked me through it while I filled it out. I sent 4 pictures of the bite and am hoping to hear from them tomorrow. Its bigger again today and itchy and when I bend my arm it touches the top of my arm and hurts.

Hav'mnt done anything today yet so I better get on.

Hope you all slept well or as well as can be expected. :-)

Gillx Report 15 Jun 2020 12:34

It's on the bed now Mel ;-) ;-) ;-) I used our old valance sheet under the mattress to hide everything under the bed, so I've still got one sheet lol :-D :-D It dried very quickly not like the valance which seemed to take forever. So washing the sheet you gave me and putting that back on the bed won't take long now. I didn't notice a hole in the quilt cover, so no worries, it wouldn't of mattered anyway as I'm so grateful for another set, it's going to save me so much time in the future knowing I don't have to get everything cleaned all in one go. It's not to bad in the summer, but now I don't have a dryer, thanks to OH's fiddling lol, I have to put everything on the rads in the winter, which doesn't help the mould, now it won't take as long, which is brilliant and will keep the mould down to.

Well done talking with the doc online, I wouldn't have a clue where to start, even if I was given instructions. Good idea to send the pictures, I hope the doctor can give you something to clear it up.

I slept reasonably well, but was woken up earlier than I would of got up. It's worked to my advantage though as I managed to get my washing done earlier and now I'm about to make a stew with the left over pork from yesterday. I'm also going to blanch the leeks I don't use today, so they don't go off, I'm one for forgetting about them and I've lost count of the times I've had to throw them away because they've gone off at the bottom of the fridge, this way I can freeze the blanched ones and use them when I need them, knowing they'll be okay. I have trouble buying them later in the year so I'll have some for the winter months to if I buy a few more to freeze.

Going to get a drink first, I let my last one go cold. With being so busy I forgot about it. The sun is shinning it's little head off and it's so peaceful now next door has stopped banging, so I'll have my drink outside and watch the birds for a bit before starting the cooking. It'll give me a chance to cool down after battling with the mattress. OH is out, I should of waited until he came in, but I wanted the bedding finished before I started cooking. I'll sit in the shade to cool off as I'm a bit warm now.

Frank Report 15 Jun 2020 12:59

Afternoon to you all,

Sorry I haven't been around, not been feeling 100%. Nasty headache and sore eyes. So kept away from and reading etc,

Ros has been busy as usual in the garden. This morning she has had the steps out, and is cleaning the gutters and washing down the Plastic boards, and gutters. I have told her to lave it, until Harvey or Lewis comes, and they will do it. The last thing I need is for her to take a fall, and be hospitalised. She forgets she's coming up to 74 and shouldn't be climbing ladders, especially as we have able bodied men who can do it. You women just won't be told, will you.???

Where I had the last of the 12 stitches removed from my forehead, it doesn't seem to want to heal, and keeps leaking blood, if I happen to touch or catch it. Ros has now put a small plaster on it, so lets hope it heals now.

The leg of lamb was a bit tough yesterday, plus I wasn't hungry, so most of my dinner went in the bin. I will slice the remains for tonight, and put it in an Onion gravy with Mash and Veg.

Is it this week that Jan has her new treatment. I do hope everything guest plan, and she starts to feel better after it. xxx Thinking of you my love. xxx

What a bolt from the BLUE. How are you and yours Liz, so nice to hear from you.

Jonathan called round yesterday afternoon, and sat out on the patio with a few beers having a good old catchup. Nicola and the boys were out for a cycle ride. Mason is 17 this year and is starting Driving Lessons, WHERE DO THE YEAS GO. It seems only a couple of years, when he and his brother would call me to spray them when I was watering the garden, when they lived next door.

Coffee and sarnie time. Care care and stay safe. xxxx

AnninGlos Report 15 Jun 2020 13:00

Good afternoon all. Lovely sunny day here and quite warm. We decided to brave it this morning and drove out to one of the larger garden centres, a blue diamond one. It was very well organised on the way in with one way in the car park and lines like the airport check in, which they obviously need for weekends. There were not too many people going in when we went and ther is a separate entrance and exit doors which is good. Inside other than at the start and end there is no one way system but it is a big place and people were reasonably good at not getting close, I wouldn't say they were 2 metres away though more like one. However they say you have to be close to somebody for 15 minutes for transfer of the virus and nobody stood still that long. There was the usual hand sanitizer and paper to disinfect trolleys at the start. and some in the store. We do miss having a coffee and chat about what we want to buy. and I find it hard having to stay together with the trolley as I am used to letting OH potter and me go off on my own looking. It is definitely not as relaxing leisurely outing but it was a morning away from the house.

glad you have some new bedding Gill. I always though the valance sheet went under the mattress anyway, both mine are, the flat part is not as strong as a sheet I don't think.

Mel, I hope that you can get help with that bite it is beginning to sound nasty.

Annx Report 15 Jun 2020 14:35

Afternoon All,

More lovely sunshine but it is a bit muggy here now. We did a half hour stint getting the first step level and filling in around it and had had enough. OH did a little watering, but swore blind it will rain here today, but I thought they said we wouldn't so we'll see what happens. :-)

Best wishes for tomorrow with the new chemo Jane. We shall all be thinking of you. <3 <3

It was a good idea to go to the garden centre today AnnG. I said to OH we ought to go tomorrow while everyone is more interested in all the other shops that are opening today. Did you see them queuing at Cheshire Oaks before 9.00am? One minute they are pleading being short of money with the lockdown, the next they can't wait to start spending. Parents wanted their children at school at the start, now they don't. All the trouble the schools are going to, yet already some of the children are hanging around together with no social distancing once they are out of the school gates. :-S We do the same as you and mooch about separately so things are very different as you say and it's nice to call and have a coffee too.

Mandy I did laugh at Lacey wanting a tea party for her birthday. They come out with such unexpected things don't they! Have you started the rainbow bag yet?

Your solid oak floor you had must have been lovely Vera and very hard wearing too. Ours is imitation oak planks by Amtico and that cost enough, so I can imagine what solid Oak would cost in comparison. Still, you only have to do it once!

Don't you just hate these bottled sprays and feeds for the garden plants that have those labels that disintegrate and the bits prefer sticking to you like limpets but not the bottle they came on. I must remember to keep ours in the shed or garage instead of the greenhouse. I have a few now that I couldn't begin to guess what is in them. That's why we need to visit the garden centre as I want something for the cues and also for some scale insects on one of the Hollies.

That was nice of Mel to send you the bedding Gill and it goes with your wallpaper too. I must say I have always put valances under the mattress as well so they reach the floor. Your pork sounded delicious and enough left for tonight too!

Mel I hope the doctor will issue you with some antibiotics soon as you will have to wait for them and your bite is not going away on it's own.

I hope you soon feel a bit better Frank. Ros sounds like me in wanting to not bother other people and just get things done. You can't expect her to do as she's told if you don't!! :-D :-D lol.
