Gill sounds like you are nearly there with Sandra's lights then. Great, she will be so happy with them, well done for perseverance.

Vera, I wondered where you were. Hope your head has cleared completely now. Is it my imagination or are you getting more migraines at the moment? Maybe it is the horrible dull. dark weather.
Good of you to go all that way to pick up something for your daughter in law's sister's husband. Hope he appreciates how much petrol/diesel that will have cost you.
Blood test went ok I was ten minutes early for my appointment but the can't have been anyone waiting as I went straight in. Needle pricked a bit more than usual when it went in but the bit that hurt most was when she put the cotton wool onto the 'wound' afterwards, it must have had something on it, boy didn't it sting.
I have not had a mammogram since I was 73 Vera, I did try to fins an email address to contact them but they didn't seem to have one and the phone is no good for me so I have not done any more about it.

We drove over to one of the Cheltenham retail parks afterwards for aoffe, then to Sainsbury's for the paper and I bought a pair of pull on trousers in Sainsbury's £14 but 25% off so £11.50, I am consistent in what I like because I have just seen that I bought an identical pair last month?? Now, do I own up or not? Handy to have two pairs though for when one is in the wash, They are more indoor wear as not very thick. Haven't told him yet.

Mel, that is a shame that May is so nervous, hope it doesn't prevent her laying. Maybe the two new ladies will have some identifying details.

Frank Report 24 Oct 2019 12:36

Good morning you all,

Yet another bad night. Got up three hours after going to bed. Sat and watched a bit of tele, and went back. Got out for the loo at 7.30. As I got back into bed, Ros got up. I managed to sleep until 9.00 am.

I was only thinking during the night, that perhaps I would try writing the third part of my memories. Not that a to has happened in recent times.

Last night on the radio, the presenter asked "what are your strongest memories, and when did they happen" That sent my brain whirling around, thinking of the V bombs flying over ur house, and the noise dying out from the engine then the flame going out from the back end. You knew then that it was coming down, and there would be death and destruction somewhere around the docks.

Ros has rung Carolyn, to see if the builder with the lorry is going to bring the Astro turf round. He's not there at the moment. I can see me telling them to forget it, and leave the front lawn as it is. There is no way Harvey can lift and bring it round here. I wish these people wouldn't make these offers, and not carry them out.

Hope the new girls settle in alright Mel, I can see you being "EGG BOUND" before long, if they all start laying together. lol

Sandra will be over the moon now then Gill, with her lights all working

Sorry you have been under the weather Vera, I hope you are feeling better today. xx

Ros had a Mammogram two weeks ago, she, being over 70 has to ring to ask for one now. Everything is good for another three years.

No breakfast this morning, so Ros is getting me a ham sarnie and a coffee. So I had better go and eat it. See you later. xxxx

O dear Frank not another bad night. You really must try and not think about anything when you are laying in bed. Do you still play cards on the pc? I find they send me sleepy and I have to go there and then.

Been to pick up the new girls and they are much darker than the first two so I will know them apart but hav'nt actually seen them out of the box yet.

Had another tiny egg this morning.

MillymollyAmanda Report 24 Oct 2019 18:43

Evening all,

What a dreary day it's been ,so misty and dull then the mist stated to clear a little but it then rained harder ,we've had the lights on most of the day .

Mel that's great getting the eggs the girls must be settling if you have eggs from them and now yo have the two new ones so i hope they soon settle and start
laying.
.
We had the family here yesterday for the day they all enjoyed their lunch and we had the left overs for our meal tonight ,tomorrow we have Chelsea here and she's going to stay over night so we've been busy getting shopping done so we can spend time with her .

Hope you've managed to get the lights all sorted for Sandra and you've had the big switch on tonight Gill she will so excited to see them lit up and glowing pink :-D

LOL AnnG have you told OH about the trousers yet :-D it's easily done i've bought things and went to put them away and then realised i've got some thing like it i had bought and forgotten about .

Vera i hope the migraine has gone and your head feels clearer now .

Frank another bad night for you ,do you still take your sleepers with these new tablets ? maybe the doctor could give you some stronger ones just to get you back into a sleep routine again ,i think you have got into a pattern of going to bed and not getting to sleep . and getting up and so it goes on , i hope you can manage to get more sleep tonight .

Ann i'm sure you'll sort out your felted flower ,the things you make always look good , sounds as if next weeks class will be a good one ,looking forward to seeing what you do .

Have you heard any more about the fire Jane ? i expect the poor family will have lots to sort out in the bungalow ,i wonder if they managed to save any thing .

Annx

Annx Report 24 Oct 2019 19:22

Evening All,

It's rained a lot of today here but is dry now. The mud from the big tractors and trailers has made one of the village roads lethal. Big clods all over one half sitting on a sludge of mud.

I hope your migraine has gone now Vera and that you didn't feel too washed out afterwards and that your HW is done now!. That was quite a trip to collect a parcel wasn't it, but I expect they will be very grateful. I had to ring several times before I could book my mammogram this time. Something to do with them extending the age limit and needing letters they were sending to the GP surgeries back before they could book me in. It meant I was overdue which wasn't ideal after being called back for a biopsy last time! Everything was fine then in the end though.

So Big Beryl did the honours this morning then AnnG! :-D Ours is Dozy Karen according to OH as she always seems to be in a dream! They can't use wipes or plasters on me as I come out in a rash. The cotton wool is ok though. That's the sort of thing I would do with the trousers, although a few years ago I started buying two of a top if I really liked it. I got fed up of tops being in the wash if I wanted to wear a particular one so it got rid of that problem.

That's good there is another egg Mel and I expect you have fetched your two new girls now! There will be a fresh sorting of the pecking order I expect, but I wonder which side the last new girls will be on? I've kept the flower petals and will see what I can do with them when I have had a think. I thought I might sew the, petals together first or do a bigger middle bit......I have a few ideas. :-)

Oh dear Frank, another bad night for you! I took ages to get to sleep, but slept right through then till 8.00am. I'm sure you have a lot more memories from wartime and day to day life that you could write about. You have a good way of relating things that makes it interesting to read.

Jane Report 24 Oct 2019 19:29

Evening All

I have been feeling really low and down in the dumps these last couple of daysThis problem I have I think has just got to me. BUT is is just a week to wait now and the endoscopy will be done, I have actually managed a fried egg and a few baked beans tonight :-D. Bit of a struggle but I got it down.

Mandy nothing was salvaged from the bungalow :-(. The forensic chap was there all day yesterday and said the fire started in the fuse box as rain water had most lilely got in. Nothing can be done to cover the roof as if rain was to collect in a tarpaulin it would take the rest of the roof down. They have hired a campervan which is parked in their drive. To be honest I think they are nuts. It would be far more sensible to stay in a house or flat ,especially with the winter coming.Maybe they will change their minds .

Hope your 2 new girls settle in tonight Mel :-D :-D.

I have missed so many posts these last few days as I just have not felt like turning on the laptop.I've just felt really anti social and not even wanting to speak to anyone on the phone. That's not me :-S.. Anyway tomorrow is another day and I may well be tiptop :-D :-D

Going to bed now ready for Eastenders and then later the new Drama The Accident.

I did see Ros is getting good reports on the water infection trouble. That is great Frank. Hope you don't have to wait long for your Mammogram results Ann.I'm sure all will be good.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Oct 2019 21:14

O our poor Jane its not like you to be so down. I do hope you feel a lot better soon.

May have a look at that program you mentioned. Waht did you think of the last Sanditown? I thought they may make another series.

Are you watching the Dublin Murders?

I am going to watch the craft program in a minuet and see if its any better this week.

Ann I liked the first program because the lady who made the things out of Filmo were the kinds of things I like. The patchwork did'nt do a thing for me. I did enjoy the glass makers things last week and quite like some of the plastic melting things but thought the water feature was crap and the price was rediculas. As to the weaving that did'nt do anything for me at all and it seemed the only things she sold were the head garlands.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 24 Oct 2019 21:16

Evening everyone

Horrible weather today, much the same as Mandy's I think. Very misty first thing and then non-stop rain all day till around 5 pm. Quite chilly as well. We met up with several friends for coffee this morning and didn't get back till nearly 1.30. We had a bit of lunch, then I did manage to move myself a bit and did a bit of general tidying up. Then I moved all the furniture except one table from our large kitchen diner and steam cleaned the tiled floor in there and the utility room. I was going on to do the hall but our son rang and by the time I put the phone down an hour and a half later I didn't feel like going back to cleaning so it didn't get done.

We exchange the odd text or email but he also rings every couple of weeks or so, usually at a very inconvenient time, but I never put him off because so many of my friends have very little contact with their children that I am just glad he does ring.

AnninG, I do seem to have had a few migraines lately but, in fact, they are a hundred times better than they used to be. I was told they would improve when I got older and they have. I used to lay in bed, not even able to sip water because I would be very sick, and in such excruciating pain that I would just drift in and out of consciousness and not know whether I was praying to live or praying to die. The worst one ever was when I was 60 and it put me in hospital for 5 days with stroke like symptoms and loss of memory. This is cheerful isn't it? Let's move on to something happier.

You did make me laugh with your identical trousers. Have you 'fessed up yet? It made me think of the time some years back when OH gave me a parcel on my birthday which contained a very nice red jumper. When I didn't immediately leap for joy he thought I didn't like it and said "I was sure it would be OK because I could just see you in it". My reply? "That's because you have seen me in it. I've been wearing an identical one for the last year". Bless him. I had to give him 10/10 for effort and I did manage to change it for the same style but a different colour.

I am sorry you had another bad night Frank. Do you think you have got into a cycle where your brain keeps you awake because you subconsciously expect to be awake? I got a bit like that but then I just stopped worrying about it and just think if I'm awake, I'm awake, so what. I sound a bit as though I'm lecturing you but it's not meant like that. I do sympathise. By the way, please go back to writing your memories down. I'd love to read more.

I'm sorry you are feeling down as well Jane. I'm not suprised. This weather is enough to make anyone miserable but if you are in discomfort and can't eat well you are bound to feel lethargic. It's not long now till the endoscopy and they can find out just what's wrong and sort you out. Then Chris will think he's got a new woman lol

I don't envy your neighbours living in a camper van on their drive. You do wonder why they need to do that. If they can't live in their bungalow and they had adequate insurance, then the insurance company should pay for rented accommodation. I do hope for their sake that they haven't skimped on house insurance.

Pleased to see you have your new ladies Mel and that you will be able to distinguish them from your other two newbies. Will you name them? How about Flossie - that definitely seems a chicken name to me (I hope I haven't insulted anyone who has a lovely Mum or Aunt called Flossie).

I am now going to get a nice cuppa and watch something on telly or on iPlayer. Have a good night's sleep everyone.

PS I have just realised how long this is. Once I start writing I do tend to go on a bit so please tell me if I should make the posts shorter.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Oct 2019 22:01

No don't make posts shorter Vera we love reading them. I for one are not a person of many words so its nice to read your words.

As we live in a very secluded spot we can't see people go past the hose at all for the high wall all around. We only see people if we go out and we do'nt do that much either so there's nothing to talk about.

I did go round to Em's in the week and took her a load of eating apples but hse had no news or gossip to tell me and when Di popped in the other week she did'nt have anything to tell me either!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Oct 2019 22:26

So you rely on us for gossip Mel! I am sure we provide you with plenty. How about Maisie for one of the new ladies?
I am sure you will think of something.
Vera don’t cut your posts short, I love reading them and often have a chuckle.
This will make you chuckle again. I did fess up and he said, didn’t you hear me tell you that you had a pair like it. I did but didn’t believe him! Oops.
I think you made up for not doing any housework with your marathon steam cleaning session.

Oh poor Jane, this year must seem never ending and one thing after another. At least you got your hip done but it does seem to have brought after effects. As Vera says not long before the endoscopy and hopefully a solution. Hopefully you are managing to get some sleep and it is good to hear that you managed a light meal.

Mandy hope you enjoy your day with Chelsea and that she enjoys her sleepover.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Oct 2019 10:07

Morning all,

Yes I do rely on you lot for a bit of gossip!!! Ha ha ha.

Miserable morning here today and very wet with it.

The good bit of news I have to tell you this morning is that I have heard from our Anne but not with good news I am afraid. She has had several falls in the night going to the loo.So she had blood tests and a water test. The doctor said she had a bladder infection and prescribed antibiotics then an ECG which showed she had had a heart attack but not when.It came as a complete shock to her. She said Ruby is well and giving her lots of cuddles. She does look in and read our posts. So keep wishing her better on here please.

Hav'nt seen the new girls yet. AnnG I think Maisie is a lovely name but a bit to near to May and May could be called Maisie at some point but it was a good suggestion. How about Bella and Beryl?

Jane

Jane Report 25 Oct 2019 10:35

Morning Mel and All

Thanks for letting us know about Anne Mel. Oh Anne I am sorry you are not so well at the moment. Hopefully the antibiotics will soon sort out your infection and that will stop you having falls in the night. Ruby sounds as though she is keeping a good eye on you :-D :-D.

How about Betty and Flo for the new girls? I hope they had a good night.

I am just going to TKMax to have a browse and get out of the house :-D It is a dull morning and I think rain is due later.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Oct 2019 12:06

Its raining here and there's quite a wind too. It has just blown the exracter fan door open.

All these names and I hav'nt really seen them yet. They are in the house because of the rain and wind. I have put food in the house but the water is outside. I tried to put it in the house but the wind keeps blowing the two front door open so I hav'nt enough hands to hold things and pick things up so the water is just outside the house.

Are you feeling better this mroning Jane? It will do you good to get out of the house and have a browse.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Oct 2019 12:27

Well a first for a long time, I had to log in to reply. Probably because I cleared my history yesterday.

Mel you need to have a good look at them before you name them, yours and Jane's all good suggestions so see what they look like.

Jane a trip to TKMax is just what the doctor should have ordered :-D A bit of retail therapy should do you good.

Anne, Oh I am so sorry that you have a water infection that can make you feel rotten and probably causes you to lose balance when you get up in the night. Try sitting on the side of the bed (it is what we do) before walking to the loo to get your balance. Sorry too about the heart attack although if you didn't know about it hopefully it was a minor one. Will be thinking of you and hoping you get well soon. Lucky you have Ruby to give you cuddles.

We just popped to Tesco for the paper and managed to spend over £15 for all the things I didn't know we needed.
Too wet for golf so OH is steam cleaning the kitchen and shampooing the lounge carpet. Which makes it too damp to walk on so a good job we are out at photography group this afternoon.
It is a really nasty day here and tomorrow is forecast to be the same.

Gillx

Gillx Report 25 Oct 2019 12:52

Afternoon all

Raining cats and dogs today......that's an old saying lol :-D :-D

More problems with Sandra's lights, after spending 14 hours yesterday trying our best to put the two lights in, we ended up only being able to put one in as they won't connect to each other. OH tried all sorts of different ways and even ended up doing it after dark, we didn't finish until around 11pm last night. It even started raining so I put an umbrella over him as he knelt down over the planter.

He couldn't leave it as the wires were exposed so had to carry on, luckily it was after we'd worked out we could only do one light at a time so once that was connected I then lent over the planter and put lots of waterproof tape over the connector. The wire OH bought was to big to go through the connector so he had to strip the outer bits off so he just had the wires which fit the connector but because the outer bit had to be taken off I needed to cover it with the tape.

Anyway that one is in and Sandra is thrilled with it, but it definitely needs the second light. OH came up with an idea of taking the wire the opposite way and bringing it in through the air vent in the spare bedroom, luckily there is a socket right there so she can plug it in and it'll save us drilling through the wall again.
That was another problem we had, OH's drill bit wasn't long enough so he had to nip to his friends and borrow his.

At least Sandra has a bit of her pink light and she was also thrilled with all the sparkly butterflies I bought her when I attached them onto the screening. She stayed in her bedroom and told me where to put them, the only problem was I'm not very tall so the higher ones took me a while to wire in.

Everything, apart from the final light and some more plants are in place now, so once we buy the correct size cable and another connector it shouldn't take to long to finish it off for her.

She sat on her bed with her bedroom light off just looking at the pink light outside for ages..........bless her, then she gave us both a massive hug and said thank you.

She had the biggest smile I've ever seen on her face.

Unfortunately OH and I aren't well today and think it's because we were close to a toxic plant for to long, our eyes are watery and we both have a sore throat. Hopefully it'll go soon now we're away from the plant.

So that's why I wasn't online yesterday. I haven't caught up on the posts yet, I'm just about to have something to eat as I haven't eaten anything for almost 48 hours and I'm starving. We're going to catch up with all the programmes I had to record last night, so I'll read the posts later. Hope everyone is okay.

SuffolkVera Report 25 Oct 2019 20:58

Hallo all

Another grey day, raining on and off.

Anne, I was so sorry to hear that you have been really unwell. I hope you are starting to feel much better. It’s lovely that you have Ruby for comfort. They can be very consoling and loving, can’t they. Take care of yourself.

I hope you enjoyed your trip out Jane. There’s nothing like a bit of retail therapy to perk you up. I like your name suggestions for Mel’s new ladies but Mel needs to see them moving around a bit and decide what suits them.

Gill, you are a very naughty girl. As Ann said, you really must not go so long without food. It’s very bad for you and hunger is often a trigger for migraine. Sandra seems to enjoy helping you in the kitchen and would probably prepare something for you, even if it’s just some bread and butter with a banana or apple. You must look after yourself. Lecture over :-). You do work so hard. It’s great that Sandra is seeing the results of all your hard work now, even if you haven’t got the second light sorted yet. I would love to have seen her face when it was switched on.

Where is Frank today? I hope he is not feeling unwell or down in the dumps.

As we were just about to leave for a funeral today a neighbour knocked on the car window and told us that the lady on the corner of our close died this morning. That’s the third local lady this month. I do hope it’s the last.

The funeral today was lovely, if you can say that about a funeral. Everything just seemed right from the choice of music to the tributes paid by one of her three daughters and two of her adult grandchildren to the venue and food at the”wake”. I kept feeling Rita should have been there as I know she would have approved. Her three girls did her proud.

It sounds as though the wind is really picking up here now. I hope it’s not going to be a very blowy night as it tends to set off some of the security lights on our neighbours house and the one on the side of our garage. They all shine into our ground floor bedroom and it’s really annoying when they are going on and off half the night. I might be sleeping in a spare bedroom upstairs

As we had some food mid afternoon at the funeral we decided not to bother with dinner tonight so I am just going to get us a snack and a cuppa. Hope you all have a good night tonight.

Annx

Annx Report 25 Oct 2019 21:12

Evening All,

Winds getting up here and seems to have put an end to the fireworks! It's been a drismal day with fine rain. The friend whose hubby had the heart attack called to see us on her way to the hospital to see him and I got it wrong with 4 stents before as he has 8 now!!! There were 3 Squirrels in the garden and different birds on the feeders so plenty of distraction for us.

We went to Nuneaton this afternoon and OH looked in 3 opticians for some new glasses but didn't see any that he really liked. He couldn't do anything about getting any anyway as he had forgotten to take his prescription with him! He really likes the ones he has so I think he should check whether he can still get the same ones first. He can't have new lenses put in them as he doesn't want to be without them with the work he does typing and reading. On the way home by a different route to avoid traffic I told him it looked like there was a bull on it's own in a field we passed at the side of the road. After a moment or two he said 'Ah, that will be bully no mates'. lol. :-D

Vera I enjoy your posts, long or short, so don't you change! If you don't mind me asking, what kind of steam cleaner do you use (also AnnG) as my steam mop tends to lose it's cloth and does the job but you have to move it very slowly. I lose impetus if I get interrupted in a job too, but as you say it's good your son rings and he wouldn't know if you were in the middle of something. That sounded like a scary migraine that put you in Hospital Vera. OH had one that gave him double vision and I had to drive him to hospital in the early hours. He used to get ones years ago that made him sick sometimes, but now he doesn't get them with headaches at all.

Thanks for letting us know about Anne Mel. I bet it was a shock for her to find she'd had a heart attack. Hello Anne, it's nice to know that Ruby i s giving you cuddles. I expect your kitties are doing their share too. I hope you are feeling a bit better now.<3 <3
I'm not surprised you have been feeling down Jane and it will be good to get this endoscopy over and done with so you know what is wrong and can be treated. Not long to wait now though and it was a good idea to go out for a while and have a change of scene. :-) It sounds as if your neighbours may not be sure about payments for lodgings of some sort if they are using a campervan.......unless they are worried about people stealing anything?

An easy meal tonight then Mandy. :-) What does Chelsea like to do now when she stays with you? I know she made scrunchies before.

Gill you and your OH have worked so hard on Sandra's garden and lights so I hope there won't be any more snags with the pink lights. It's nice she can lay on her bed and see the first one you've fixed tonight though. :-D :-D That was a long time to be without food Gill, at least have some regular snacks if you don't want to stop.

That's good Daisy gave you another egg Mel. :-) We only occasionally stand and chat to one or two of the neighbours, usually in the summer. Mostly it is just a wave and hello as we go out or come back if any of them are out on the front. I did have a chat with a young man in the Co-op this morning though as he came up to me and started telling me which he thought were the best wraps in the chiller cabinet. (see what an exciting life I lead!) I didn't like to tell him I hate Chilli though and had to wait till he went before I chose a cheese and onion sandwich to take to the Christmas beading workshop tomorrow for my lunch. :-) Having gone out to work every weekday for nearly 40 years, I find it so hard to stay in for more than a day or so and have to do out, even just for a stroll round the shops!
