Morning all

Dull here, it looks like we've had some rain in the night, but it's dry now.

I hope you can sort out the alarm on the car today Frank and you managed to get some more sleep last night.

Sandra's light is really bright and has the pink she wants. We put it on in the living room and I nearly blinded myself lol, we had no idea it was going to be that bright, so we're going to point it downwards when we set it up for her so it's not lighting up the neighbours garden as well as Sandra's planter. We will buy the extra cable we need and waterproof connector tomorrow, on route to OH's mum's, it's her birthday and we pass the shop on our way there, so it'll save OH time today. It's forecast to be dry over the weekend so we can set it up for Sandra then. The light only came with one metre of cable on it, so we'll have to buy a bit more than we first thought. Sandra is thrilled with it and can't wait to see her pink light . I must admit for the price, it's a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

There are 16 colours and when you click on the modes they are going around in a sequence, but it's quite fast and looks a bit like a disco light, so we're just going to put it on the static pink one for her, which is what she prefers.

It's stopped raining now so OH wants to finish cleaning the patio, it got to dark to finish it yesterday, so if the rain keeps away it should all be done today. It looks so much cleaner down the side and around the front now. I can't believe how dirty everywhere was, with all the building work around here for the past year, so it'll be nice to see it all clean again.

Morning Frank, Gill and all.

My, you were posting early this morning Frank. They always say if you can’t sleep you should do something relaxing like a jigsaw. I am not sure sorting out a car alarm counts as “relaxing”. I hope you managed to get some more sleep and you can get the car fixed today.

It seems to be the week of alarms, with Ros’s car and our neighbours. I think you are right Mel. They only set it if they were out during the day and at night. Also it had been in less than 2 weeks when they went away and we hadn’t had much sun during that time. We had no problems resetting it during our “practice run” but it seems to be when it has gone off and it senses something wrong that it is hard to reset.

Anyway, today is wet and grey (again) so hopefully we won’t have any problems, assuming OH is right about the sun causing it.

Sandra must be chuffed she has got her pink lights Gill. I bet she can’t wait to see them in her garden. I would love to see it all set up if you can manage to get a photo.

I hope Jane gets on OK at the doctor’s today.

I am off at midday to a birthday lunch with our group of ladies. The birthday girl is the oldest of our group and is 87 today. She’s just a tiny bit forgetful at times but apart from that she looks and acts more like 67. It’s a pub lunch, then back to her house for tea and cake. We’ve been celebrating each other’s birthdays for years and we generally buy a small gift for around £10 but it gets harder and harder to find a suitable present. I know most people will give today’s birthday lady a voucher for a local shop or a plant so I have found her an ornament, a china giraffe that’s a bit twee for my taste but I think she will like it.

Just noticed the time. I must go and shower as my lift will be here at 12. Have a nice day everyone

Morning Frank Gill and all,

I just typed a great long sentance and nothing came out!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its a nice bright morning today and oh has just ogne out on the mower but I still think the grass is much too wet to mow and he will only make a mess but you can't tell him anything.

Was soooooooo whacked out yesterday evening and I only did the one shop not two or three like sometimes.

I am pleased Sandra like her ight Gill. I bet she can't wait to have it up and running.

I had a crow in the chicken run again this morning when I got up so I shall have to have a look and see if we have left any holes and if not we may have to put some of the bean wire over the other way to make the holes smaller.

Frank Report 16 Oct 2019 13:25

Good morning again girls, Finally got back to bed and slept until 8.00 am. Ros got up and I turned over until 10.30. I can't remember the last time I was up that late.

Plenty of BLACK clouds around today, with the promise of rain and possible thunder. Tony has washing on the line, so I will look out for the rain, as he will be flat out on the sofa reading a book. lol lol

I asked Ros if she fancied anything special for tea/dinner tonight. Instead of the usual "What ever" she said, HAM, EGGS and CHIPS. So I have done a jug full of chips. So a nice easy meal with little clearing up.

I didn't know Jane was at the hospital today. (must have missed it) I hope she gets on alright, is it to do with the hip operation. ??

Carolyn has just rung to say the men are there laying the ASTRO TURF on their back lawn. There is enough over to cover our FRONT LAWN. I will get either Harvey or Barry to remove the turf, put down a liner, and relay the lawn with the ASTRO TURF. No more mowing, which will be great.

No trouble with the car alarm as yet, so it might have just been a glitch. If it does start to play up, I will get my garage man to disconnect it.

Will try to catch up later today, until then enjoy your day. xxxx

Afternoon Everyone

I saw the GP this morning and he is sending me for an Endoscopy.I should hear later today when it will be. It will be within 2 weeks so not too long to wait. Bloods to be done on Friday. So i have taken the first step now :-)

I have just had a message from the daughter of my friend Sue to tell me Sue passed away peacefully this morning :-( :-(. I'm just so glad that I got to see her and spend a liitle time with her . As I am sure you will realise I am a bit upset right now, but relieved that she is no longer suffering.

A nice easy dinner for you then tonight Frank. I was going to cook some steak and kidney for a pie but forgot we had a pasty for lunch and I had a mince and onion pie!! May do sausages and do the pie for Friday if I cook the meat it will be ready as tomorrow is F & Cs day.

The postman has been and I have had the most wonderful card I have ever had from Sandra.

Sandra you are getting really good with your card making and I was amazed when I opened it just how many stickers and diamonties you have manage to get on there. Thank you very very mush and it will go with my little collection. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Caught another rabbit today and shot it. I am sorry but I have so many in the garden it is untrue the damage they do.

AnninGlos Report 16 Oct 2019 16:06

Good afternoon all. sorry another late one. This morning was a tip visit with all the garden waste that wouldn't fit into the brown bin, then Tesco for coffee and a visit to B&Q for a couple of electrical bits.
This afternoon was the U3A monthly meeting which was a talk on our local Sue Ryder hospice. We learnt a lot that we didn't know about the place starting with the fact it is in the second oldest building in the County. They have 16 beds for in patients where there are also room for relatives to stay. Pets and families and children can visit, no restrictions on visiting 7 days a week 365 days a year 24 hours a day. There is also in a separate building a day visit centre where treatments, therapeutic and clinical can be taken, beauty, massages, social, craft/art And finally they have Hospice at home, 3 teams who visit patients at home to care for and treat patients and look after their families. It really sounds a wonderful place to go when it all gets too much for both patient and family.
The young lady who gave the talk was very pregnant, baby due in 2 weeks and she stood for about 40 minutes talking even though she was also suffering from a cold.

AnninGlos Report 16 Oct 2019 16:20

I posted that before I lost it again, it was the second time I had typed it all out.
Hope you enjoyed your lunch and afternoon Vera, it always sounds fun when you meet up with your friends.

It is lovely here today, bright sun, pity it couldn't have been like it yesterday for Batsford.

Mel, how strange the crows are getting in they must be able to shrink them selves very small to get through the netting, amazing what they will do when they are hungry.

Well it will be good for you to not have to think about mowing the lawn Frank. I can't say I actually like Astro turf but I can see the attraction. Our grandson has it in his garden. I think you do have to rake it occasionally though.

Oh Mel I don't know how you can shoot the rabbits. I know they are pests but I just couldn't do it. I suppose it is what you are used to.

Jane <3 <3 <3 <3 Please accept my thoughts and sympathy on the sad loss of your friend, always hard, even when you know it will happen. However, how wonderful that you managed to actually spend time with her before she died, that must be some comfort.
You guessed the doctor would send you for an endoscopy didn't you? Hopefully that will identify the problem and hopefully it will be something with a simple solution. Have you been given anything for the discomfort meanwhile? And are you managing to eat anything at all?

Gillx

Gillx Report 16 Oct 2019 16:24

Sandra said to say thank you Mel, she said she didn't realise you kept them all and it was really nice <3 <3 I agree and have noticed her card making is good, she takes a lot of time over them and tries to make the cards the way she thinks the person would like it, with of course lots of pink as well lol. I'm pleased it arrived okay as Sandra was worried you might not get it with what happened with her parcel. It arrived quickly though, it wasn't posted until late yesterday afternoon.

Sorry to hear about your friend Jane, I can imagine you would be upset, but like you said you got to see her which was lovely. My thoughts are with you at this sad time <3 It sounds like the Endoscopy should show up what the problem is and also the bloods, lets hope the problem can be identified and sorted for you soon.

I wonder what was wrong with the car alarm Frank, maybe you didn't have one of the doors or the boot closed properly. At least it's okay now so that's the main thing, let's hope it stays that way. So you're having Astro turf in your front garden, that'll save you having to cut it. My mum's had it for years and said it was the best thing she ever bought. I think some of them look so realistic compared to when they first came out, I thought they looked very plastic back then. The one my mum's got looks just like real grass. We've had lots of sun today, so OH managed to finish cleaning the patio and the windows, it's looks brilliant now against the white paint he put on the bungalow the other month.

Another interesting day out AnnG, you do find some good places to visit. We have very little around here. I do envy you.

How nice to celebrate each other's birthdays Vera, your present sounds nice I'm sure she'll like it. We're hoping to put Sandra's light in her planter at the weekend, OH is going to buy the extra cable tomorrow on our way to see his mum for her birthday. Sandra can't wait, I just hope the weather forecast is right and it's going to be dry as it's suppose to be raining for the next few days.

Evening all,

Jane i'm so sorry you have lost your dear friend today <3 it must be a comfort for you to know that you managed to get to see her before she passed away ,thinking of you as it's hard to lose a good friend <3
You thought the doctor would send you for an Endoscopy ,it's good they are not going to keep you waiting to long ,have they given you any thing to help the acid ?

Gill i bet Sandra can't wait to get the new pink light up in her garden ,what a shame you can't take a picture and get it on here ,i'm sure we would all love to see it .

Frank the Astro turf sounds just the ticket for you so you won't have to cut the front grass any more it will save a lot of work .
I wonder what went wrong with the car alarm ,hopefully it was just a blip and it's sorted itself out now .

I hope the alarm at your friends house has been quiet today Vera you'll be glad to see them home at the weekend so you don't have to keep going round trying to sort it out ,it could have been worse i suppose if it had been the middle of the night when it went off :-0

Colin went to the doctors a week or so ago as he has had a very sore groin both sides ,they gave him some cream but it still hadn't cleared up and was getting really fierce looking so off he went back and they gave him more cream and took a swab ,the doctor just rang to say it's a bug of some sort but they are now waiting to hear back as to what sort of bug ,so he might need Antibiotics , goodness knows where he has got that from .

We're off to the tip tomorrow as we've pulled all the runner beans up and i've sorted out the old cucumber plants and a few tomato plants from the green house so we have quite a few tubs to take .

AnnG that sounded a good talk about the Sue Ryder Hospice and a nice place to go as you say when it gets to much .

Mel i wonder how those crows are getting in with the girls ,i take it the two new ones are nicely settled in now ,have you heard any more about when you can get two more ?

How sad Jane but at least you met up again and she went peacefully knwing she had seen you. <3

My card is on my desk and I keep looking at it it is so pretty and it has a flamingo inside!!

Evening All,

Sorry to hear your sad news about your friend Jane, but it's good she didn't suffer a long time. It was good she got to see you as well as you see her too. <3 It's good the doctor is sending you for an endoscopy to check you out. <3

Frank I said before when you told us John was having artificial turf that I would have some if we had lawn again now. How lucky is that that there is enough left over to do your front lawn!! :-D You will be getting the hoover out instead of the mower and far less often! What a lot of work it will save you and no edges to trim! :-D I hope you sleep well tonight after your early start and that Ros's alarm has stopped playing up. I get beeping in my car at times but no screen message to say anything's wrong, but it makes me jump and start worrying!

I hope Colin soon gets some antibiotics to get rid of the bug Mandy. OH had a rash there in the summer that took two lots of cream before it went. You are ahead of me getting your toms cleared. I must look tomorrow and pick any toms that are left so they can be cleared. OH has taken the beans down.

AnnG your talk sounded very useful and interesting, but that poor girl should have sat down to do it being heavily pregnant.

Your birthday girl sounds great for her age Vera and I'm sure she will have enjoyed getting your surprise for her birthday!

Mel we had it bright and even sunny this afternoon. You must be plagued with rabbits where you live and I can understand you shooting them. Although I had pet rabbits and would find it hard, I know shooting them usually means less suffering for them than what foxes and cats do to the poor things. Did you see my question about when it's best to stop feeding hogs as a friend has asked me?

When I fetched the papers this morning an old boy got in the car next to me in the car park and just drove off without putting his seat belt on. Then as I drove out of the car park and needed to cross the road I waited while a woman in a car came from my right. She had her head leaning over her left shoulder with her mobile clamped between and her right hand with a fag in her fingers hanging out of the window while she turned right!

We met for lunch at Ullesthorpe as OH had a Council meeting earlier and a woman accosted him going to the toilets to tell him how smart he looked. Then she wandered over to our table and started joining in with our crossword. He wasn't impressed with her rudeness and we ignored her till she went away. I've told him he's got to get that twitch in his eye fixed!! ;-) ;-) When I went out after to where my car was under one of the trees the white paint was covered in bird S##t!! The others next to it weren't as OH checked, but there were over 15 splats on mine so that was another job when I got home!

About the other new girls I rang the man today and he said they just have to have their vacinations and I should be able to have them by the 23rd Oct. Thats a Wednesday.

The others are mixing mor ewith the old birds but the oldies are still picking on them if they try to feed with them. I walk up the end of the run and the old girls follow me so the new girls can eat in piece but today when I did it they all walked up the end of the run to see why I was up there. You can't win can you?

Had a bit of a funny tummy tonight so I think its an early night for me.

Gillx Report 17 Oct 2019 09:10

Morning all

Sunny here today, if it stays that way OH might put Sandra's light in for her.

I've not been very well since yesterday lunch time and had an awful night, so OH has gone to see his mum on his own. Sandra is still sleep (she never wakes early, unless it's Christmas Day) OH is hoping to be back home with the cable and waterproof connector by 11am, so hopefully, weather permitting, it'll give him time to put the light in. I was going to put the cable clips up ready for him while he's out, but really don't feel up to climbing on ladders with a hammer. I've got a headache and don't want it to turn into a migraine, it's probably a bit of dehydration with being sick in the night, so I think it's wise to leave that job to him.

I see you have a date for getting your new girls Mel. It sounds like the old girls are still a bit unsure of the new ones, but I'm sure they'll settle with each other soon. Yes Sandra put a flamingo inside your card and when she told me, she had a big grin on her face.......bless her.

How rude of the woman to come over and interfere with your crossword Ann, I bet that felt very uncomfortable? Loved the comment on you saying to your OH to get the twitch in his eye fixed lol ;-) ;-) Hope you managed to get your car cleaned. Some people say it's good luck, but having to clean it off isn't very lucky lol.

How is Colin today Mandy? I hope he feels better soon, it sounds like a nasty bug he's got. Let's hope if he needs antibiotics, they work quickly and he's soon on the mend.

I've been thinking of you Jane and hope you feel a little better today.

How did you sleep last night Frank, I hope you managed a good night and feel more refreshed today. When are you getting your Astro Turf? Do you have to get someone in to lay it for you? It'll look lovely when it's all finished.

Going to get a cuppa now, I want to keep my fluids up in the hope it helps get rid of my headache.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 17 Oct 2019 10:15

Morning Gill and all,

Sorry to hear you have a headache Gill and I hope it soon passes so you can get on with Sandra's light. She will be over the moon when its all fixed up won't she?

Ann I keep meaning to say about the hogs. Tell her to put the food out until it stays there over night. Its usually about the begining of Nov but I have stopped feeding mine as I have'nt seen any sign of one for over two weeks now. You never know with the foxes around here whether they take them or not. When I had an Alsation she brought one in the house once and wiped it up my SIL's leg onthey way through the door and Frances said "O she bit me on the way in". Then Holly deposited a prickly ball on the white kitchen mat which was good as we picked the mat up and put the hog outside.

Gillx

Gillx Report 17 Oct 2019 11:44

The painkillers are working slowly Mel, the sicky feeling has gone and the headache's not as bad now.

Poor Sandra, she really isn't having a good week where her light is concerned. OH went to the shop to buy the connector and cable, to be told they haven't got any in stock and won't be buying anymore until they've done a stock check at the end of November, so OH is going to go back to his friends to see if he can order what we need off Amazon. In the meantime he's going to put all the cable clips in place and make the stand we need for Sandra's light while the weather is dry as it's forecast to rain later.

I feel so sorry for Sandra, all she wants is her pink light and to see it in it's box knowing we can't connect it yet must be upsetting for her. Sandra being Sandra through said it was okay and she doesn't mind waiting......she's so thoughtful bless her. At least we know they will be getting it in December if it can't be ordered from Amazon and we'll have everything in place ready to connect it quickly for her. I just hope we don't have a foot of snow by then.

I'm glad you mentioned about feeding the hogs Mel, we weren't sure when to stop either as we don't always see the hog,. Having said that we did see one last night so we're still going to feed them. The one we saw looked really big so we don't need to worry they're not getting enough food for the winter months, when they hibernate. It's a good job we're got you to ask for advice isn't it ;-) ;-)

After a lovely sunny start I went to feed the girls and oh said go now cos its going to rain. He was right just as I was round the big girls putting another tie on the netting down it came. I gopt soaked but now the suns out again. Funny weather just like April with the showers.

Gill get yourself a small pack of go cat chicken and put a few of those out for the hog its sure to be back for that. It must be chicken duck turkey or rabbit. No beef lamb or fish of any kind. Glad the headache is lifting now. You should be able to get the things you need on Amazon and they usually do next day delivery if you pay the extra but if you are a prime customer lots are free delivery. Search Amazon and put in outdoor connectors and they have lots.

Good afternoon all, that is the Tesco shop done. 10p a litre off fuel with an over £60 spend, and they also have their wine offer on if you buy six bottles. Good if you want to put some by for Christmas.

Gill, hope you continue to feel better now. A shame that Oh couldn't get the stuff he wanted, have you checked that it is not sold anywhere else in the area? Sandra is wise knowing she will get it in the end I think.

Mandy sorry to hear about OH's bug, sounds like a fungal bug, hopefully when they know it will soon be cleared. Have you changed washing powder, softener or anything else that might come into contact with his skin?

Lovely morning here today, real autumn weather, bright sunshine and a bit chilly, at least it has encouraged OH to clean the cars, mine was muddy from the tip visit yesterday.

Ann all our tomato plants and a lot of the hanging baskets have been pulled out now. We had the last tomatoes last week, not bad considering we have been eating them since July.

Does anyone hear from Anne these days, seems ages since she popped in.

Oh Mandy poor OH .It must be most uncomfortable for him . The groin is a perfect place for bug /fungal problem. I hope that he can soon be given the right thing to clear it up swiftly. He will have to go commando :-D

Astoturf for you then Frank :-D. I reckon it will be top quality if John has bought it.I cant see him going for the cheap stuff. One less lawn to mow :-D :-D

I have had a call from the hospital and I have my Endoscopy at 8.15 tomorrow morning !!!!!!! EEK!. I am going to keep myself busy this afternoon so I dont think about it too much.

Mel heard from Anne a little while ago. I wonder if Annes subs have run out and maybe she has not renewed .
