I want a bit of rain Ann. Not a spot so far here . We must have missed the downpour Frank had over at his. What is it about chocolate digestives that makes them so good??? I like the Milk Chocolate :-D

Poor man getting his hand stuck like that Ann :-( It sounded quite a nasty injury :-(

I have got another 2 bites now Ann!!!! . Luckily I don't get such a bad reaction as you do . But mine are looking a bit angry now. I must stop scratching :-S.. It does feel so good though to have a good scratch :-D

I am so tired I can't comment on all your posts but I do think you must ring someone about Val Frank. She can't be aloud to go on like she is without some sort of help. In sickness and in health comes to mind and for a church goer he said that in church when they married so he should be keeping that in mind while he's in church.

Poor James fancy making him work the week out. Will he get any sort of redunancey money at all? He's done some good work for that firm in the past.

I too am having to go through the numbers of the pages to get to todays posts. As for the Error page its still coming up for me when I post a posting. I am getting really fed up with it all now and sneaky posters.

SuffolkVera Report 27 Aug 2019 20:59

I’m back again now. We drove into town and OH made his way slowly from the car park to the opticians while I trudged around in the heat doing some food shopping and going to the bank. Then I put all the shopping in the car, walked up to the opticians and OH was just ready, so perfect timing.

Tum has settled down a bit thank goodness. I am fairly sure it’s just the heat upsetting me. I hope you and your OH are also feeling a bit better Ann. We could really do with some rain here; the air feels so heavy.

Poor James. He must feel very down at the moment but perhaps before long he will be able to be more positive and look on it as a new opportunity. I wish him well.

Gill I hope OH got his tooth sorted OK and that he isn’t too sore.

Frank, Val’s life does seem awful at the moment. Her OH doesn’t seem to have any empathy. You do have to wonder what happened to “for better, for worse”. I wouldn’t presume to try to advise you as I obviously don’t know the people involved or the full story but I think when my FIL was alive he had access to a dedicated Parkinson’s nurse that he could call if he had problems. I wondered if Val has the same (it is Parkinson’s that she has got isn’t it?). Someone like that could probably drop in casually to check on her welfare without appearing to pry.

Pippyn, I totally understand what you are saying about not wanting to put much family information on here. It is an open site and we all have to decide what feels right for us. I have put general information about, for instance, brother’s operations, daughter’s new job etc but I haven’t given names and specifics. When I wanted to email the folks on here with something my granddaughter had done at University I got her permission first. So no need to tell us anything private, just come and chat generally.

Sorry, I think I went into lecture mode there. This heat has definitely fried my senses. I hope you all get a good night’s sleep tonight. See you tomorrow

I hope youget some sleep tonight Vera. Its still quite warm here but we did have a short sharp shower as I was coming home from Bideford today but it had stopped when I arrived home. Then a little later we had another.

I keep meaning to say did you see the last Poldark last night?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Aug 2019 10:00

Morning all,

Did everyone sleep well last night. It was much cooler here and I slept like a log.

This morning is cloudy and theres a bit of a breeze which is blowing a door somewhere in the house, probably oh's study. Yes the sky is very grey today.

I have a lot of ironing that needs doing and I also need to hoover if my back will let me. I may be safer with the ironing but shall need some steam I think. Everything has dried out so much in this heat and the uti room is the warmest room in the house so its all too dry to iron.

Hope AnnG had a nice day yesterday and enjoyed heranniversary outing.

Magpye Report 28 Aug 2019 10:19

Vera, you certainly weren't in lecture mode! It was sensible sound advice and thank you for it. It can sometimes be difficult to strike a happy medium over personal things, so your thoughts were very welcome!
Not a bad day, cloudy, but warm! Not sure what we're up to, but it won't be too energetic!!
I don't envy your son having to work this week Jane! It must be very dispiriting, but I guess it's all part of the procedure! I hope that once he's gathered his thoughts things improve and eventually go well for him. He should enjoy Portugal, nothing like a break right away to get things back in perspective. I think they still like us there, not so sure about Spain!!! :-(

Gillx Report 28 Aug 2019 10:23

Morning all

Dull and Damp here today.

It looks like next door has the men back to fix his gate, there's lots of knocking and banging going on at the moment right outside Sandra's bedroom window and she's still sleep, not for long I shouldn't think though.

It sounds like you have auto correct on your computer Frank, see if you can turn it off, then when you type it shouldn't try to correct you anymore. Fancy taking the wrong bit for repair off your conservatory Frank, mind you these things happen, I did a similar thing myself when I wanted to swap some ties over on my dressing gown, I took them off very carefully then ended up sewing them back on in exactly the same place without swapping them over, needless to say they stayed that way and never got swapped over in the end. I hope it's all sorted now. Is your shower still working, the last thing you need in hot weather is a broken shower.

Have I missed a post about your car Jane, the thought of it bursting into flames must be a worry. Have the garage worked out what's wrong with it yet?
So James did lose his job in the end, I do feel for him and really hope his luck changes for the better. Hope the chrome handle is changed for a white one soon, like you said having one white and one chrome isn't a good look. At least it works, so that's something for now.

Pleased to see your tum is feeling a little better now Vera, let's hope it stays that way. It sounds like your OH is improving more now.

Oh Ann, that poor man trapping his hand like that, it sounds like he was in agony, I hope he didn't do to much damage to his hand. I've let OH know you have plenty of choocy biccies in ready for his painting job at yours :-D :-D Have you had lots of free time to yourself yet with your OH having the programmes to look at, it's going to take him a while to get through all of them isn't it?

I have the last two Poldark's on the planner, so I'll be watching those today Mel. Sandra is looking forward to watching Britain's Got Talent, it's all the winners from past shows and starts on Saturday, which should be interesting to watch and of course I'm looking forward to the F1 coming back on this weekend.

Well, OH did have an infection in the end, so he's now on antibiotics and will go back to the dentist to have the tooth out next month as planned, he said the pain is starting to ease a bit now, so he should be okay in the new few days.

Someone at the door, see you all later.

And now its pouring with rain.......

Frank

Frank Report 28 Aug 2019 10:39

Good morning Mel, and all,

Much cooler here today, a good breeze and clear sky's.

The washing basket is full to overflowing, so Ros has LOADS to do today. I will try to get her to do some, and leave some, for another day. SOME CHANCE OF THAT. ;-) ;-)

Wouldn't you have thought they would have let James have these few days off. I can't think he will put much effort into the job, I know I wouldn't. !!!!

I'm between the devil and the deep blue sea, If I ring someone about Val, and he finds out, there is bound to be trouble, and if I don't what will happen next. He was out mowing his front lawn this morning, so at least he is nome. For how long I just don't know. Perhaps, if I see his car go out, I could pop round on some pretects (sp) to see if she is alright.

Ros will need to go to Tesco's later, I have quite a list of things, we are running short off. How my mother managed all those years ago, with FIVE children under SEVEN to feed and cloth, and no car, to pop to the shops, and a War going on around her. WHAT A WOMAN.

Who's doing what today, ?? I am going to try to mow the front lawn, and if we don't get the promised rain, water the pots and baskets, plus greenhouse and bottom beds.

Outside decorating is something of the passed. Being that I had all new UPVC gutters etc done a few years ago. I don't have to worry about it. Just a wash down when I do the windows. Which need doing !!!!

Now I will do and see what we are going to have to eat tonight. I do wish Roswould say that she FANCIES THIS OR THAT.. It would just give me a break of deciding all the time. Mind you, she never complains with what I put in front of her. lol lol GOOD JOB. !!!!

See you all later, and thanks for your input regarding next door.

Annx Report 28 Aug 2019 11:01

Morning All,

No rain here yet Mel, but it's forecast so will soon be on it's way. At least it is much cooler which is helping my bites and the itch! The worst one on my leg has spread a bit wider again so I took another antihistamine. The ones on the front of my neck have merged into one big lump.....not a good look. OH said the insects must see bacon and eggs when they see me!!?? Despite the itch I slept really well so that was good. I watched the last Poldark, but still prefer the earlier episodes.

It's good your OH got the infection treated Gill and will soon get the tooth taken out. He must be getting quite used to the dentist now.

I hope you enjoyed your anniversary AnnG and had a nice day. Do you swap gifts? I' m afraid we only swap cards and have a nice meal out.

Only another two days and James won't need to go back there Jane! I would just want to slip away but I expect there may be a leaving speech and gift? At least he can look forward afterwards. I was made redundant when dad finished his business and it's an odd feeling because you are being finished without having done anything wrong. I realised being older that getting another job might not be easy. It was the days when office jobs for women usually stipulated ages 18_22. But I got a job in the Civil Service before I finished working my redundancy. It turned out to be the best thing that could have happened, so I hope it does for James too.

Our tums settled quickly Vera so maybe it was the heat after all. Good that your OH managed the opticians ok. Is it new specs now?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Aug 2019 12:23

No breeze at all and the rain is falling straight down like stair rods.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Aug 2019 12:33

If I send the rain up to you lot you won't have to mow the front lawn Frank.

Just stopped for a coffee. Still ironing though so I better get back to it.

Good you slept well Ann. Its not at all nice when two bites turn into one big one and the itch is still there. The Antihystamins should kick in and take them regulary and they should help a lot. I am not saying much about bites as I have been very lucky so far this year and the only one I had was just above my eyebrow so not too bad. Its when they get you in warm places along the bra line or pants line that they really itch so.

I wonder how Jane's bites are today, gone now I hope.

Frank

Frank Report 28 Aug 2019 12:50

You are the lucky one Mel, IT IS NOT MY DAY TODAY :-P :-P :-P :-P

First I decided to get the mower out. As I went to the garage it spotted with rain, so came back in doors. As the basket of ironing was sitting there I got the ironing board and iron out. THREE TIMES, as I put the iron on a item, the trip went in the fuse box, I reset it and tried again and again. Finally I unplugged the iron, and left it. Still not sure what the trouble is, but Ros is home and got the SPARE IRON out and is ironing away happily. So I can only put it down to the iron. I will check the plug, and if it's O.K. it must be the iron itself, so that will go in the BIN.

The sun is out again now, so I might try to do the lawn in a mo.

Val's son is next door, while Tony was out, I was able to talk to him over the fence. He has his suspicions of how Tony is treating his MUM. He was telling me, that Tony said he was spending FOUR HOURS a day at the nursing home with Val. Where in fact, he was going there PUTTING DOWN HIS PAPER, and going off to visit another woman who was in a different part of the home. Making it look like he had just popped out. The son said he took TWO WEEKS of work and was going to the nursing home to fed and care for his Mum, and Tony was nowhere to be seen. He is seriously thinking of taking his mother, back to Rushden to care for her, at his home. THAT WILL REALLY PUT THE CAT AMONGST THE PIGEONS. He and his brother are contenplating, having it all out with him.. He couldn't believe that his Mum had to ring Ros for help the other evening. I told him exactly what I thought of Tony, and in between Effing and blinding, he agreed with everything I said. He is going to sort out the carer situation, so some good should come from this.

This endeth the latest episode. !!!!

AnninGlos Report 28 Aug 2019 13:16

Good afternoon all. Had quite a bit to read there. Our internet is on and off it is the Wifi and we hare having a new router tomorrow. I am on line at the moment so will try to get this done quickly while it lasts. No time to answer all the posts but, thanks yes we had a a lovely day for our anniversary. We spent over three hours at Hidcote garden, including having lunch. Goodness it was lovely and sunny but very hot in the morning, lunch was outside with the company of plenty of wasps After lunch we crossed the road to another garden called Kifsgate, this one is a private garden that has been designed and managed by various families of women and it is beautiful. We have been before but just love it. Not quite as sprawling as Hidcote and much more formal but very pretty and so much to see. We were at the furthest place from shelter when there was a sudden heavy shower, needless to say we got wet but it was warm and soon dried. We stopped for a cup of tea and a piece of shared cake before driving home. No meal out in the evening as we had had lunch (chicken and vegetable hotpot and granary bread). But we had a couple of G&Ts with our special blue Saphire gin, and then shared one of the half bottle of red wine that son bought me for my birthday with chicken and dalad sandwiches.
Jane Poor James, I suppose in a way it was a relief to get it sorted and he probably knew it was going to happen. At least if he works the week it is another weeks pay so he can grit his teeth and look at it that way. I hope he is able to find something to his liking and that it will prove to be a good move for him.

Ann & Vera glad the tums have settled down.

Frank good that Val's son was there and you could talk to him, hopefully he will get something done now.

Pippyn and Vera, sometimes it is good to chat about things in the family to people that are not close to the situation. I know I have done it, but unless somebody knows me personally (and my family), I doubt very much if family members mentioned could be identified. I rarely use names. I have to say that most of my family are on Facebook so are aware of how people do chat on social media but mostly nothing really persona; is said. I look on GR as a sort of safety valve Lol!! And have done for 16 years now. So some people have been with me and my family for quite a while. :-) :-)

I suppose it's just a matter of personal choice AnnG and what we as individuals feel comfortable with! Neither of us are on facebook, twitter or anything like that as we simply don't choose to be. I am on a history forum which is very interesting and informative! Its free too which is an added bonus!
Dull here now and looks like rain! Saves watering, which is a good thing!!

Me too!

Frank I'm so glad you got to speak to Val's son. It sounds like he will do something as he sounded as annoyed as you at her lack of care. Well done!

Well OH did some impromptu ballet moves on the patio, almost the splits too he said when he was coming in from the garage this afternoon. I usually jet wash the patio but haven't managed to do it yet this year, so with a bit of rain on it it was slippy and he does rush around. :-S He'd really banged his knee hard, but has managed to go to a local match this evening! I think he will be feeling it by tomorrow though.

AnnG it is nice at Hidcote isn't it, but I didn't know about the other private garden. I wouldn't have liked the wasps though, but your lunch was nice.

I wonder if Jane has her car back now, hopefully it wasn't too expensive to fix. Was it this week she was having her first bath since her operation? How are your bites now? Mine are quite hot to touch but not getting any bigger. The cold hot water bottle on them was a good idea to stop the itching.

I found a nice new shiny Sherlock Holmes 50p in my change today so I have kept that for now. I have a little collection of special edition ones including a few Peter Rabbits, but not the sought after coloured ones. I hardly use any cash now, but you still need it for most car parks and the car wash.

It would have been first OH's 74th birthday today. I can't believe it's been over 8 years since he passed away.

Jane

Jane Report 29 Aug 2019 09:40

Morning All

Ann, I finally had a bath last night :-D :-D. Got in and out on my own although slowly and gingerly and had a luxurious soak in plenty of bubbles :-D. It was heaven.I was so tired too as I had not had a good sleep on Mon night after having a message from my friend in hospital. From her words and saying her Daughter was in bits it seems that she has most likely been told that there is nothing that can be done for her. :-(
I will get my car today. It was a huge bit of Metal that was stuck in a rear tyre that set off the warning sign !!!!!. So thankfully it is nothing electrical . Just the tyre to be replaced :-D

Off the the Vets shortly with Thomas for his annual vaccination and health check.

Frank, I am so glad you had the opportunity to speak to Val's Son.He is obviously very concerned about her too.You will feel better now you have put him in the picture as to your worries and concerns.

Must fly. ..At least it is much cooler now,its such a relief :-D

Gillx Report 29 Aug 2019 09:58

Morning Jane, morning all

Bright and sunny here today.

So you've had your first bath since your op now Jane, I bet you slept well last night after a nice soak in the bubbles, I know my OH did. I can see why babies have a bath before bedtime now ;-) Pleased to hear it wasn't something electrical on your car and you just needed a new tyre.

It sounds like you had a wonderful day out AnnG, the places you go to sound lovely.

I bet Val's son was pleased you told him what has been going on Frank, although I think he had a pretty good idea what Tony is like. I hope something can be done for her now.

I see your OH managed a slow walk to the opticians Vera, he's coming on nicely now isn't he?

Your bites sound nasty Ann, keep up with the antihistamines they will help with the itchiness.

My Internet was off again yesterday but this time they didn't tell me and I only noticed when my laptop asked me to log in again.

Mum called around yesterday with a funny looking skirt of her friends that needed altering, I couldn't work out how it had been made so thought it best not to do it myself, so I suggested she took it to a professional. I'd of never forgiven myself if I'd of done it wrong and ruined it.

I've just heard workmen next door and when I looked they are having what looks like a 4 foot fence built between us and them along the front to where they are putting their gate. I'm hoping we can take our broken one down once it's finished and just leave his fence, it should look better than the little one we had put up last year. I wonder what type of fence they're having done, they're just putting the posts up at the moment.

OH has gone to make a start on mum's painting, she's out all day with a friend so he thought he'd do it while the place is empty. He'll probably finish it off tomorrow.
