Frank Report 1 Apr 2019 11:09

Good morning to you all,

I haven't been out yet, but the sun is shining and we have blue sky's. I can't see any bushes moving, so I don't think we have any wind either.

We had a lovely day with Harvey and Julia. Lewis came home around 5.00 pm. HUNGRY as a HORSE. Harvey had plated him a meal and he devoured it in no time. We had a FILLET OF BEEF as a beef Wellington. I couldn't believe the price he paid for it £100.00 !!!!! It was absolutely delicious,he is such a good cook, he did a very nice selection of vegetables. And a choice of 4 different sweets.

It's been a longtime since we have been down. They have done so much work in the house, also had their FRONT GARDEN block paved, which means they can get his truck and the two cars safely off the road. Still a lot to do, but it's coming along fine.

I have just been looking for travel Insurance for the holiday. The price frightened the pants of me, starting with basic cover, it costs over £240.00 That is because of Ros's Heart attack. When you think our return flights only cost £169.20. We are seriously thinking of relying on the EU card. and taking our chances. The BIG problem is if I don't declare Ros's Heart Attack, and anything happens we won't be covered.

Ros has given Jan a small toy for the dog. She will take it out tomorrow, when she goes with Ella for a couple of weeks.

John has been on the phone again this morning, about taking me for a spin in the CAR. So I have agreed 3.00 pm today. Just to get it over and done with.

I glad everyone had a nice day yesterday. and pleased your brother in recovering Vera.

Frank that is what it has cost us for our two weeks in Lanzarote, it went up because OH is over 80. Instead of being able to take a yearly insurance we have to take single trip which costs more than last year we paid for the whole year (two trips abroad plus others in UK). It is also loaded because of both of us being on statins and me being on tablets for high BP.

SuffolkVera Report 1 Apr 2019 13:14

Good morning all

Bright and sunny here and the wind doesn’t seem as cold as yesterday.

AnnG, you can still get annual travel insurance over 80. I’ve just taken out one for us which cost about £250. OH is over 80. Admitted he takes no regular medication though I always declare his back problem. I only take daily pills for migraine. The other thing is the insurance we have is “low risk European” which means a few countries are excluded. Mostly it’s places like Tunisia but the list included Spain, so I queried it with them. They said they would include it at an extra cost. It’s because Spain charges medical treatment for visitors at about twice the rate of neighbouring countries like France.

Frank, of course it’s your decision but I wouldn’t rely on the European Health Card. It only gives you the most basic cover that a citizen of that country would get. It certainly wouldn’t cover things like a medical flight home if needed. I’m glad you had a good day yesterday. Enjoy your car ride this afternoon.

Mel, I hope your X-Ray goes well today and doesn’t show anything untoward.

I was amazed to hear from my brother that he is expecting to go home tomorrow.. He is very tired and weak but otherwise OK. Transport is being arranged to take him from the London hospital to his home on the Essex coast. He can then recover at home under the general care of his local hospital. We will go to see him on Wednesday. It takes 75-90 minutes from here but is a straightforward drive.

My grandson will be 19 this week so I texted my daughter to see if she knew what he would like as a present. Money towards a snake! I know he had bought one before plus the correct equipment for it. He shared it with his girlfriend and it was kept at her house. When they parted company recently she kept the snake so he wants another one. I only hope it doesn’t escape and eat his sister’s degus which daughter looks after as granddaughter is at uni. There are two dogs in the house as well so there’ll be quite a menagerie there soon.

Time for a cup of tea and a sandwich now, then off to the shops this afternoon.

Afternoon all,

Blue sky here today and sunshine ,little bit of wind which dried the washing quite quickly so it's now in and all folded .
I have washed a couple of floors and had a hoover up ,we've just had cheese on toast for our lunch ,Colin's still making the rabbit run for the childrens rabbits i think there's just the netting to go on now.

Frank i wouldn't risk taking a chance with the travel insurance you carn't be to careful you could end up having to pay out a lot of money if any thing happened .
What a price for a piece of meat !!!! it sounds as if you all enjoyed it .
Enjoy he car ride ,i hope it's not to low to the ground so you don't pull yourself when you get in and out .

Oh Vera a snake !!!!! :-0 not my choice for a pet but young ones seem to love them .
That's good news for your brother being allowed home there's nothing like your own bed when your poorly and need to rest .

Mel your little Robbie has found a nice little place to nest :-D

Jane Report 1 Apr 2019 14:17

Afternoon Everyone
Another lovely day here and warm enough for short sleeves (for me anyway :-D)
Vera your Brother has done so well hasn't he to be going home so soon.I think just being back home again always helps with recovery.No-one wants to be stuck in a hospital bed. They are uncomfortable, and it is always too hot and noisy.
Ooh a snake. That is one pet I wouldnt fancy. What kind of snake does your Grandson want to buy? Are Degus like Chinchillas?

Mel I love your pics of Robbies nest and it is good you have the Hogs back again.
I would like to have a camera or CCTV set up as I often wonder what I must miss in the garden .That was nice to see the Fox AnnG.Is it a route that it might take each night? I know we have lots of Foxes around here as neghbours have said there are Fox Dens at the bottom of their gardens. These are gardens that back on to the field behind all our houses along this road.

Love the second Unicorn Doll Mandy :-D. I am sure the girls are really happy with them :-D
Janice said that the Warthog costume was a success. It was a 10 year old boy who wore it.I dont have a pic to send though because he was on stage with all the other children and these days it is a no no to share photos of children unless you have permission from parents. It looked good though :-D

Frank, Vera is right. You really need to have proper Health Insurance when you go to Spain.Especially with what Ros has gone through. If something was to happen and you aren't covered I dread to think how many thousands of pounds it would cost you for hospital costs and possiblty flight home with a Nurse or other medical professionals. It isnt worth the risk.
I am glad you had a great time with the family and seeing Lewis. Good job that Beef was good at that price !!!!!!. How big was it??? . I do say though I never buy a cheap joint of Beef.I think I have said I buy a larger one ,cook it, use what we want and then slice the rest up cover in gravy and freeze.

It seems we did well wtih Mothers Day flowers and pressies. We had a lovely time in Cambridge. It was so busy there it is such a vibrant place.People having Punt trips on the Cam....NO FRANK NOT ME :-D..... Not after my last 'trip' ;-).. There was a Rolls Royce driving around with tourists doing a tour of the place in style.
We did the Park and Ride and had thought the bus stopped very near the pub we were going to. Wrong :-S.. I left my stick in the car thinking I didnt have to walk too far so was glad to be able to hang on to James :-D as it was about 10 mins walk. I know that is nothing but my hip was not great and I did need something to lean on. Today I would have had no bother. The meal was ok .Nothing really special just nice Pub food. Hannah had found it hard to book anywhere as most places were already booked up for Mothers Day.
I had a lovely pair of Earrings ,Flowers and Chocs :-D I did laugh at the message in the card James gave me.
He said Happy Mothers Day Mumsy ,You are still rocking it after all these years.10 out of !0 for effort(and a big smiley face ) :-D :-D

We have total wall to wall sunshine here now. Looking forward to tomorrow as I will be having lunch with Ann and Fitz :-D :-D

Jane Report 1 Apr 2019 14:42

Missed you there Mandy
I didn't know OH was making a Rabbit Run for the children.I didnt know they had Rabbits....I wont tell Thomas ;-) How many Bunnies do they have?
You have just reminded me about washing.I have a load i nthe machine that must have been finished a couple of hours ago !!!. So I best get that hung out now.
James has gone to see Denise(Johnny's Mum) as it was her 71st birthday yesterday. He had bought one of those flowers on a big stake to put in her garden .I think it is a Daff.He said she has some tall plants so it would look good amongst them. He was going to buy flowers but I said I bet she had plenty . I am going to have to move my Mothers Day Flowers this afternoon as the scent from some of them is getting a bit much and making my eyes itchy .I will put them in the window in the front porch. I also ned to get rid of my vase of Tulips as they have all flopped now . The Irises I bought last week are looking great still :-D
When I think these days how much money is spent on buying flowers for Mothers Day it just reminds me of when I was a little girl and Dad would take me and Janice out to pick the wild flowers for Mum. I don't think that can happen these days as you aren't allowed to pick them :-( We would go down the woods and pick Primroses ,Iris (by the stream) and Bluebells. Children sadly these days don't have the enjoyment of doing something so nice and simple and feeling proud.

Afternoon all,

Went for a drive with John in his FERRARI What a beast it is. 4.2 litre engine 500 BHP with a top speed of 200 mph. He did take it up to 100 mph on the duel carriageway. I thought he was taking a risk, but he didn't seemed bothered. It's 4 years old and only done 7,000 miles GAWD ONLY KNOWS WHAT THAT COST. !!!
It frightens me to think about it. lol lol
Ros is weeding the bigger bed beside the lawn, and thinning out the snowdrops. I am going to put them in a box ,on the front drive for anyone to help themselves. I have put a note on the BLISWORTH Notice Board, and said don't take them all, let others share. I must go and put them out.

I have been thinking about the Holiday insurance and like you I don't think we dare tack a chance. Remember last Sept. She had her Heart Attack on the Saturday as we were flying out on the Sunday. :-0 :-0 :-0

Might take a chance and see if I can cut the lawns, my back and shoulder are painful but if I leave it to Barry, it might be another week or so, before they get done. The weather is suppose to be in for a change, so I need to get going today.

So you had a right Burn up on the roads this morning Frank :-D :-D. As you say that car sounds quite a beast :-D. I bet you enjoyed the thrill .At least if the speed was caught on camera anywhere you weren't the driver :-D :-D . He does like his cars doesn't he. Bit like my ex Brother in law. He probably has about a million pounds worth of cars. How many can you drive at once???? It is all for show :-S

I haven't put the washing out as my neighbour who had the big tree cut down is havign a big bonfire. I know she will be fretting about the smoke and worrying about us neighbours. It actually smells quite nice :-D. Not like the other people next door who seem to burn a lot of very noxious smelling stuff.
We have just a couple of weeks left now before our road is closed off for 18 weeks(at least). I saw Fitz's wife earlier and she is going to keep a diary of her (extra mileage )
2 trips a day will be an extra 20 miles!!!!

Did anyone watch Line of Duty last night?

AnninGlos Report 1 Apr 2019 16:10

Vera, I think when we did this insurance OH was in a hurry and we were already with the same insurance company and never had a problem with them, just renewed it each year. However because we were taking out a single trip one the girl insisted on going all through the application form again not just copying over as nothing as changed. He tried to tell her (as they always noted before) that, despite me being on BP meds my BP had not been high for at least 18 years as they regulated it. And also the statins our cholestrol is not high it is regulated. I do also have the basal cell carcinomas (rodent ulcers) that I have had removed over the past 10 years. Each one has been benign and caused no further problems once removed. And even if they flare up they are not likely to make me end up needing medical attention until I return home. OH has a hernia, but he was told he didn't need to have it operated on but that apparently is still a risk that costs money. To be honest we have always gone with this company because our son is quite high up in one of their other divisions (i.e. not life insurance),We know that, should we have a problem he would be able to help us sort it out. did you mean that with low risk European Spain isn't included so you had to pay extra. Seeing as mostly when we go abroad it is Canaries or Spain!!!!
Great that your brother is going home, I think the general thinking these days is that people recover more quickly at home.
Ugh, snakes, no, no ,no!

Mandy going by the forecast I think this is the last of the sun, it is lovely and warm in our garden.

Jane, glad you had a good lunch and enjoyed your day yesterday. I do like Cambridge although it is about 30 years since we were last there. When we lived in Bedfordshire it was a short journey.
Ye children today don't know the simple pleasures of picking flowers for their mums do they?

Wow Frank that was a fast drive, a bit naughty of him and a good job nobody did something unexpected.
I hope people are sensible and thoughtful about the snowdrops, you always get some who are greedy.
I am pleased to hear that you will take insurance very sensible.
such a nuisance when you want to dry washing and bonfires are lit isn't it? I could smell one outside just now but it wasn't close by.

at about 12 the sun came out and this afternoon it has been really warm out there so I have done quite a bit of weeding and tidying up, pulling out the dead bits from grasses and, with OH tackling the mass of celandines that have suddenly spread over the garden. Pretty flowers but a bit of a pest.

Back home now and had a cuppa. We went past Brookes Nursary on the way home and noticed it had changed to Homeleigh Garden Center so we popped in to have a look as I wanted to see if they still had the Bonmarch shop in there. Oh said he would buy me another pair of jeans for my birthday and I liked the pair I bought in there and they had the 27" leg fitting. He bought me two pairs, navy and blue deneim. I also bought some little plants I wanted, Diacias and Nemesia and two tom plants and some spray for the new chicken house. On the way out across the car park I found on the ground a Fitbit, showed oh and said I woud take it in the shop incase someone asked if they had it. Oh said he would drive round and meet me outside. He was'nt there so I walked back to where the car was parked and he was talking to a man with a BIG 4x4 type VW. He's only hit it backing out!!!!! There was hardly a mark on the VW but the man said it was'nt his so we exchanged names and addresses. To be honest I think it was more that he hit oh as the mark on his car would have come out with a polish where as my poor little old girl has a big black mark on her behind and some of his white paint.

I hav'nt read any posts since Anning at 11.47 so will do once I have posted this.

It's been a lovely sunny day today, but I've been feeling a bit off colour so have stayed in doors, I'm very tired so think I'll be having an early night tonight.

Yes, Mel Sandra's birthday is on 28th April, she's starting the countdown already.....bless her. How nice to see the hogs on your camera, good place to watch them from your kitchen where it's warmer and there isn't a chance of disturbing them. Oh dear Mel, it's not nice when you have an accident, I hope your OH can sort it out with the other man. Love the photo's of Robbie's nest, it's very posh isn't it? LOL.

Another lovely Unicorn doll Mandy, you are clever, was this one the same size as the last one you made?

The travel insurance was very high Frank, but I can see why with Ros's heart attach. I see you enjoyed your spin in the car with John?

That's good news your brother coming home so quickly Vera, it sounds like it'll be a lot easier to visit him now. I don't think I'd like a snake, what type is your grandson looking at buying?

Evening All,

Yes, it's best to have travel insurance so it's good you have decided to get some Frank and not take a chance. It would be such a worry if something happened and you weren't covered. I get free travel insurance, breakdown recovery and mobile insurance through my bank account, which is also free, but the travel insurance ceases at age 80 so I shall have to shop around too then! So you got your spin and in a Ferrari as well!! I would have loved that, especially if I could drive it!! It must have cost a lot, as you say, but I bet it purred and had slick gear changes with all that expensive engineering that would have gone into it. :-) I would think the insurance for it would be eye watering too. I bet folk you were passing were looking to try to see if you were a 'celebrity'!! lol. Was it Rowan Atkinson that wrote his off?

Jane and Fitz are meeting me at a new place this time Mandy, so I shall have to keep my eyes peeled and set off a bit earlier, as I don't know the area. You did well splitting a big grass as they are really tough to divide. I think I have resorted to a pruning saw in the past.

More good news on your brother Vera if he is well enough to go home. It will be much easier for you to visit him too which is a great help.

Oh no Mel, I bet your OH was annoyed at doing that. It is so easy though as cars go far too fast in car parks and appear from nowhere. Hopefully the other car's owner will think the damage too small to bother with.

I've done nothing but yawn all day so I think I shall be off to bed now.

I had some lovely Mother's day presents yesterday, lavender tree from Paul, flowers from Richard and Mark sent me a M&S voucher I had them all round to Sunday roast which was beef and all the usual veg etc, Mark being in Hastings of course wasn't there and because of his Aspergers much prefers his only company, sadly

I can remember when Abbie had a snake she had a photo on face book with it wrapped round her arm, she had a different boyfriend then and he kept it at his house along with a lot of reptiles.

Loved the photos of Robbie Mel are you expecting babies soon?

Vera that is good news your brother is home now much more peaceful than hospital.

Mandy another cute unicorn toy for the girls I wish I was that clever [I have trouble getting motivated to sew on a button]

I haven't got used to the clocks going forward yet not helped by the fact Ruby wanted to got out in the early hours and after doing a wee decided to chase one of our cats and I had to go at the top of the garden with a torch to get her back in again, so I haven't felt too good all day. I did water the garden I didn't realise that rain was forecast for tomorrow

Frank that sounds like a hair raising car ride, reminds me of Top Gear when they show off for the cameras.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 1 Apr 2019 23:48

Good evening everyone.

Only now I'm having a quick skim through this thread. I've had another really busy day, either at school or shopping, so I've not had time to myself.
Yesterday I went for a lovely pub lunch on Romney Marsh with my three children. It's always great to meet up all together. On the way, we saw some really young lambs. They are so cute, especially when they get just a little older and go off all together on mad chasing games round the field. Traditionally lambing locally is around end of March beginning of April, so soon there will be more lovely sights as we journey around.

Jane,
I remember country walks to pick wild flowers. Little violets were favourites and we were particularly thrilled if we found a few white ones in the hedgerows. Mum had a special little vase, which they always went in and had pride of place.
Later, I can remember buying a small bunch of flowers from a market gardener. She was lovely to young children at Mothering Sunday and kept a supply of simple little cards, which we could write to include with our posy. Often she would go out and freshly pick a few extra flowers, so that we had a lovely gift to give.

Yes, insurance is not worth taking a risk about.
My friend had a heart attack, when abroad and couldn't fault the way she was looked after. She was hospitalised for a while abroad, her husband being helped to move hotels, so that he was closer for visiting. Once well enough to fly home,on landing, they were met at the airport by a UK doctor, who gave my friend a medical check and then accompanied her home to inside their home, where she was checked again on arrival, observed for a while then given a final check before doctor ensured she could be left.

Another busy week, but school term finishes this Friday, so maybe next week will be less frantic. If it's fine, the garden could benefit from some much needed attention. 3 cornered leek is trying it's best to take over. We never used to have any, but once 'in' it seems difficult to get rid of. The flowers look pretty, but that's about all that can be said in favour of this invader.

Frank Report 2 Apr 2019 10:57

Good morning to all my dear friends,

Rain here, I watered the front garden, the pots and baskets down the drive, the patio, and the greenhouse and the seeds I put in. I had just put the sprinkler on the garden, when it pack up.So I have ordered a new one this morning. It was only a cheap one, so the saying is right. "BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE" I was so pleased I did the lawns as well yesterday. The rest of this week doesn't seem very promising, weather wise.

We have the HOG around as well. He has left a trail down the drive, and on the patio, dirty little devil. lol lol

Thats a pity about the little knock on the car Mel, will yours need to go into the paint shop for repair, or can you polish it out ??

Ros has just had a delivery, from QVC a pair of white slacks, they look very nice on her.Our postman ADAM, who delivered the parcel, said to me "YOU flash GIT" he saw me yesterday in the car with John and we gave him a blast on the hooter.

Nobody has taken me up on the offer of snowdrops. I offered some to Adam, but he's not a gardener, and thought they were SPRING ONIONS. I said you can eat some if you fancy them !!!! ;-) ;-) ;-)

Ros had a very long conversation with Julia yesterday. They plan on meeting up in Milton Keynes soon for a day out. Now that she is retired, she has a lot of time on her hands, and I think she is bored. She had a responsible job in schools, organising the schools finances. She was made redundant a couple of months ago, and install being paid until September. She will be off to their holiday Caravan in the south of France quite soon, and will stay there until Harvey drives down and picks her up in August/September.

You all seem to have been treated well by your children. with flowers and presents. Poor Sally (Simon's wife) was working. Not sure what her hours were, but didn't allow her time to spend time with her children.

I had another terrible night last night. I just couldn't be bothered sitting watchingT.V. so went to bed to read. I finally came out at 11,00 pm to say good night to Ros. I slept until 3.45 am and was then wide awake. I had no intention of getting up at that unearthly hour, so laid staring at the ceiling and the curtains. Finally got up at 6.15 am Made my tea, took my tablets, and prepared a Chicken Casserole for tonight.

Denis and Pam have had Three new windows put in the side of their bungalow, two in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. I wouldn't have thought they needed replacing, as they looked in very good condition and were the plastic, doubled glazed ones. More money than sense, comes to mind ;-) ;-)

Hope you enjoy your meet up Anne and Jane, I see Fitz is going also. Where are you going ?? One of thee days, I will surprise you, and come along to meet you Anne. !!

Carolyn will be picking Ros up shortly, for their mooch around the shops, and garden centre. She has her vouchers in her bag, so I expect there will be more bits for the green on her return. Carolyn has just pulled up.

I am going to get myself something to eat and a coffee, so will try to get back later xxx

Morning all,

Sunshine and white clouds and then the wind blows over grey clouds and showers of rain. The wind is really cold too.

Robby has been feeding his wife on the decking and I have been trying to get a pic but I am just to slow the capture the event of the beak open and him popping the worm in.

Have a lovely lunch with Jane and Fitz at the new place Ann and we want to know what you all ordered.

Gwyn, we used to go and pick primroses in the spring and bring bunches of them home. The gypsys used to come around the houses selling buches of primroses with their leaves wrapped around them and sometimes little baskets made of hazel twigs with a primrose planted in them in moss.

WE have hailstone now so no wonder the wind is so cold.

Going back to the primroses, when I first lived sown here we have loads of primroses in the little wood just outside the wall and I used to pick them and do them in the little bunches wrapped in their leaves and sell them in the market in Bideford. They were always greatly received and snowdrops too wrapped in ivy leaves marked up as "Fair Maids of February". It took me ages to pick and bunch those but I did enjoy it. 15 to a bunch and I used to take about 20 bunches. People would buy them in two's.

We used to have a Nature Table at scool and I always remember taking in Sticky Buds to watch the leaves come out and the promiss of many conkers to come in the Autumn.

Must get on as its shopping day and I am all behind today like a ducks tail.

Afternoon all, Just popped out for the paper then a quick run round to the local garden centre looking at trellis, bought a few bits and came home, we have just remarked that the air and wind is so cold it feels like hail is on the way Mel. Really very cold.

Gwyn how lovely to be with all your family on Mothers' day. Makes me feel even more down as our daughter said yesterday they are thinking of moving further north in the Lake district, which is where her new husband comes from. That puts at least half an hour on our journey which is already 4+ hours and which is already proving a bit of a strain for us. so we will see even less of them then. I do so wish she and her late husband had never moved from Hampshire, that used to take us an hour and threequarters at most.

I remember once when I was about 18 and we went to stay with OH's Dad in Buckfast in Devon, we walked up the lane to Holne and the banks were covered in primroses. I picked a large bunch and wrapped them well and packed them in a cereal box and sent them to my Mum in Fareham Hampshire. She got them the following day in perfect condition. that was spring 1959. Thinking about that they would be dead by the time they arrived these days. My Mum also loved violets and I used to buy her them for mothers' day.

No change here with the weather. I have put the heating on, and it still feels chilly. My hands just don't seen to get warm. I think a nice HOT bowl of soup is the order of the day. ;-) ;-)

I have forgotten about looking at the various sites for Travel Insurance. I am going to do that this afternoon.

No body has been to [pick up any Snow Drops, but with the rain I don't blame them.

Hope you didn't get to wet shopping Mel, and the girls and Fitz enjoyed their lunch at the new place. I will be interested to know where the went. NOSEY. !!

Still no idea what we are doing about BREXIT. It get more boring, the more you hear about it. :-( :-( :-(
