Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Mar 2019 23:24

Vera best wishes for your brothers op from me too and hope the funeral goes off ok too.

Mandy the doll is lovely now it has its mane and tail. So Lacey will have the other one you showed me you had started with pink hooves.

I think Frank puts pork in his leek pie as we have asked before. I used to make a bacon and leek pudding. Always a favorite with mum and oh. No tmade one since mum died.

Its just as well your machine did'nt leak Anning if you went out. I would'nt have gone till the cycle was over or is that what you did?

Bet Frank is all tucked up in bed bow. Hope he has a good nights sleep after all that work.

I washed my hair this evening and the bulbs had gone in the hall light so I turned the outside porch light on as its so bright it shines right int o the hallway. WELL the state of the front door took my breazth away. There was a spiders web in the right hand corn INSIDE!! snd I don't know what has been splashed up the outside. Tomorrow I must wash it all down inside and out.

O I meant to say our dentist told us not to wash the toothpaste off your teeth too and to only use a bit of paste the size of a pea. If you use an electric brush thats all you can get on there anyway. I swap between Oral B and a Colgate minty one.

When I was young mum used to get me Gibbs Dentifreze in a tin and it was pink and sometimes the tins were blue ones and green ones. It was like a tabllet in the tin and you had to rub your brush around on it.

Morning all

Cloudy again here, but no rain so that's good.

I've been awake since 3.30am I couldn't get back off to sleep so got up just before 6am.

Sorry to see you haven't slept well either Frank, I hope you managed a few hours after watching the TV and your shoulder and hip aren't hurting anymore.

I do the same thing as you Mel and use the porch light to light up the hall, it's not so bright as the main light, we've done it for years, it shines into our bedroom to. It sounds like you're going to busy cleaning your front door today. Good luck with your blood pressure appointment.

Hope all goes well for your brother's op and the funeral today Vera, I'll be thinking of you.

That's handy your friend being a mobile hairdresser Anne, it saves you having to go out for your perm.

Going to get a cuppa, then I might run myself a bath while Sandra and OH are in bed. I can see me falling asleep this afternoon, I've only had 4 hours sleep.

Morning All

Sleepless night for me too :-S I was up at 2.30 for a wee and let Thomas out.I was just dropping off again when I could see orange lights flashing through the curtains. Then I could hear noises. It was the workmen doing what had to be done with the water pipes.I saw a Milk Van at 4.30 :-D Havent seen one of those in a long time.So that was my night. I shall be like you later Gill.

i can see me being Mrs Grumpy today and said t oChris not to get on the wrong side of me :-D He has been warned. :-D :-D

Vera I too hope all goes well for your Brothers operation tomorrow and the funeral today.

I suppose I had better get in the shower and wash my hair and then go and collect my prescriptions.

FRank,I hope you managed to get some sleep in the end and that your hip and shoulder are not quite as bad this morning. Easy day for you today I think :-D
The sun is shining and its a lovely morning . See you later

Gillx Report 28 Mar 2019 10:15

Kept falling asleep at my laptop while I was running a bath, good job OH woke up. I'm a bit more awake after my bath, how long that'll last though is anyone's guess. LOL.

Sorry to hear you had a bad night to Jane, it's no joke is it? Yes, I can see the two of us asleep this afternoon, then saying we've had another bad night, tomorrow lol ;-). I remember hearing the milkman when I was a child, but like you haven't seen one for years. I didn't even think they were still in circulation anymore. So you've warned Chris you might be a bit Grumpy, I'm okay and don't get to grumpy unless I end up feeling ill through lack of sleep. The sun's out now and the new neighbour is sorting out his shed again, he said the security camera was going up today so that'll give everyone peace of mind.

I've just dried my hair, now I'm going to sort out the bedding, lots of washing to do today.

Morning Frak, Gill, Jane and all.

Got up at 6.15am for the loo and it was all misty outside a proper sectret morning. Went back to bed anddropped off right away. Sorry to those of you who had a bad night but I slept like a log again.

Frank you did too much yesterday with all the planting etc no wonder your shoulder is giving you jip and your hip with all the bending over. I know mine would be just the same. Iv'e had a bit of neck ache since doing all the cutting back.

Oh is outside rodding the drain I think. He has to do it on a regular basis as we have a bit of a step in the pipe to the tank.

He let the chickens out for me this mroning again so no rush to get around there as they had plenty of food they had'nt eaten last night when I shut them in.

Good morning Gill, Jane and All,

SNAP I want back to bed at 1.30 am was still awake at 4.45. I must have dropped off, and woke again at 7.30, So like you two, I am working on AUTO-PILOT.

I've told Ros she is not working the garden today, I have showered and shaved and got dressed in trousers and clean shirt. So no work for me today. We will go out late afternoon for a bite to eat, but will make sure we are back for CHOIR at 7.00 pm.

We had a visit from John and Carolyn yesterday afternoon. They had just returned from KNARESBOROUGH (sp) Yorkshire with. HOLD YOUR BREATH. A FERRIEA (sp) SPORTS CAR. Bright Red. I didn't bother to go out and see it. I have seen plenty in my lifetime. !!!! He part exchanges his JAGUAR SPORTS CAR. He still has his top of the range RANGE ROVER. Carolyn saw a BENTLY SPORTS CAR while they were there. He said "If you would like it, we will buy it" But she declined, saying she was happy with her RANGE ROVER. Who wouldn't be. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Ros has got my bag of MEDICATIONS on a table, filling up yet another Months of tablets, where do the months go. She did hers, in the kitchen a little earlier. So that's us fitted up for another month. :-D :-D

DON'T FORGET THE CLOCKS GO FORWARD ON SUNDAY.

I must have missed Vera's post about the operation, and funeral. Hope both went alright.

Started off with lovely blue sky's this morning and felling quite warm. There are a few clouds building up now, so I hope the rain holds off, as I am thinking (ONLY THINKING) of going for a walk along the Canal. I know the exercise will do me good.
John mentioned he walks up to SIX miles a day. No way I could do that. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Anything exciting happening for you all today. ?? If like me, nothing. lol lol.

I must ring SIL to see if there is any news about my sister. I don't like to ring Mary, in case she can't get to the phone from her bed, also she might be resting.

Bye for now, xxx

Good afternoon all you sleepyheads. We have done the weekly shop and now I am trying to catch up with a few 'admin' type jobs. (i.e. messing around on the computer!)

It is a lovely sunny day here but a bit on the chilly side. OH is doing things outside. Apparently one of our water features has a rusty pipe that need changing. He is tryin to find one on the internet.

Thanks for all the birthdays and addresses, I have just been writing them in the calendar and in my book I keep in the drawer here by the computer.
I realised this morning that it is our son's silver wedding anniversary next week. Goodness knows where those 25 years have gone. :-( :-(

Frank, hope the aches soon ease. I suspect it is the gardening that caused it after you have been resting for a while since you hurt your ribs.
gill and Jane maybe getting out in the fresh air will keep you awake. It would be a mistake to sleep this afternoon as then you won't sleep tonight.

re the toothpaste, I see it was not just us told that then. Our dentist actually said to put some toothpaste on your finger and rub it on your teeth.

HOME ALONE AGAIN.

Carolyn rang to say she wanted to go to a garden centre down the A 5 towards Milton Keynes, as you can imagine Ros didn't need shoving. lol lol Ros was hoping she wanted to go the Whye Vale as she has some vouchers to spend. Perhaps she will do that on Saturday when out with Jan.

I have just had a coffee and a salmon sarnie. No breakfast again this morning, so was feeling peckish.

Thanks for the email Mandy,I see another has just pinged up in the corner of my screen, will look at that soon.

Don't you dare sleep this afternoon girls. You are better off getting out in the fresh air, the sun is nice now.

Having trouble with a neighbour at the bottom of the garden again. He still wants me to cut down the tree, that he says the leaves are killing his plants when they fall in the Autumn. We have had this conversation recently, I told him then as I did today, to pick up the leaves that fall as when I has a reply from Alan Titchmarsh he said "The tree wasn't the trouble, but the leaves. I have threatened him with Solicitors, if he reaches over, and cuts the branches on my side of the fence. He is allowed to cut any branches hanging over his side, that I understand. He is a right old misery, and would fall out with anyone, at the drop of a hat.

I've just charges up a TABLET that Harvey gave me. The print is just that bit bigger and easier to read the books. So I am well set up.

I'm already for when Rosiest back to go off and get some food. Not sure what she fancies, carvary at Collingtee, or the Queen Eleanor for a steak. I will let her decide. ;-) ;-)

Annx

Annx Report 28 Mar 2019 16:00

Afternoon Everyone,

Lovely sunny day here again and like Mel I slept like a log last night and woke at 7.00am. OH was up earlier than me and took a carload of garden rubbish to the tip. When he got back he set to weeding the back garden after digging a large shrub (cat casualty!) from the front garden and taking that to the tip as well. I went out and pruned the Ceanothus, then a variegated shrub. My back twinged with bending down then, so I didn't push it and went to the border the other side and cut the tips of an Acer back by about foot, so I can reach the top of it in future. The variegated Holly next to it then got a haircut and I got to the back of it this time so I could cut the bit that had started to overhang the neighbour's garden. I did a smaller shrub in front of it and called it a day then as my knees were grumbling.

We have 2 connected water butts behind the greenhouse and I don't know if they went with that bad wind we had a while ago, but OH said the lid off one has just vanished, along with a length of the drainpipe that was connected to the gutters! I haven't had a good look yet though but it is a bit of a mystery.

Vera I hope your brother's op has gone well and is all done now. It sounds like he has had quite a time of it with operations. Best wishes to him. I hope the funeral went well too, at least it has been a nice fine day for it.

I was wrong about which toothpaste I use now as it is Colgate Pro-Relief. :-) I still can't get OH to use a pea size amount despite us going to a talk a few years ago where they said that is all you need. He still sees that long strip to cover your brush from the adverts!! As it is the gums receding as you get older that causes a lot of sensitivity I was told to rub the toothpaste along the gum line as well.

Frank it seems you overdid it a bit yesterday and are paying for it now. Sensible to have a break today.

We went for a ride round a few of the villages after lunch. It's nice this time of the year with the trees and bulbs in bloom. We were shocked to see fields of oilseed rape already bright yellow, the earliest I have seen them! I'd better get the hay fever tablets stocked up. We stopped at one of the churches but could only look around outside as, like a lot theses days, it was locked. An interesting thing they had done was to edge the tarmac paths with granite bricks. Each brick had a name or names carved into it and the date of an event at the church eg baptism, marriage. I thought how handy that would be for future genealogists!

After waiting since before Christmas to get a hospital appointment and being told it would be May at the earliest, for the first time I have gone private through a small insurance I started paying in the Civil Service ( I bet AnnG will know of Benenden!) They could have seen me on April 8th, in the evening, but OH has an important meeting so it is the week after now. I chose a small hospital, so there won't be much trudging down corridors either.

I better get on with some 'admin' now like AnnG. LOL. It piles up so quickly.

I hope Gill and Jane haven't nodded off yet.

For anyone who is interested The Repair Shop is back next Monday at 4.30pm on BBC1. There are 10 episodes. :-)

Jane

Jane Report 28 Mar 2019 17:59

Frank, what type of tree is causing your neighbour grief? As you say he can only cut off anything overhanging his side. I know leaves can be troublesome .When our big Ash sheds it leaves they end up two doors down when the wind blows :-S
I wonder what Ros has bought today at the Garden Centre :-DIs there any room left for her to plant anything else?? ;-) Have a nice meal tonight wherever you go.

Ann, I noticed the Oilseed Rape yesterday on the way back from Rushden Lakes. My heart sank as I hadnt expected to see it in flower just yet. I got a big pack of Piriteze just the other day. We used ot hae Zirtec but they dont seem to do that any longer. The tablets with cetirizine works best for us.
I am glad you have managed to get an appointment quickly by going privately . Not too long to wait now :-)
I bet your lid and guttering from the water butts got blown away in Storm Gareth. They could be miles away now :-D You have managed to get a fair bit done today in the garden.Do you ever manage to get a nice relaxing bath ? I can't remember if you said your knees prevent you having one. I dont know how I would survive with out a nice bath .I used to have one at night but now it seems to be in the mornings. Not every day ,but I do think it helps loosening up stiff joints a bit after lying in bed all night.
I waddle like a duck when I first get up :-S,all straight legged, stiff backed :-S I remind myself of my Mum!! But she was in her 80s then !!!

Chris has just found the remains of a Rabbit by the side hedge. He said it wasn't there earlier. I wonder who might be the culprit :-| :-| We finally got around to doing Thomas's worm treatment this afternoon. He is getting more difficult now to do. Some of the drops ended up over Chris's shirt when he tried to scrabble out his headlock. At least that job is done now and not needed again for 3 months..It will be the flea stuff again soon though :-S Mel you said the other day about worming the chucks . How do you do that?

I managed to stay awake :-D :-D. I watched MotherFatherSon,Escape to the Country and some silly things on YouTube. ARE YOU AWAKE GILL? :-D

Gillx

Gillx Report 28 Mar 2019 19:44

Yes, I'm awake Jane :-D I did the same as you and watched a few programmes off the planner, although my eyes were drooping a bit so I paused it occasionally and went outside in the fresh air, that woke me up again.

I really should make a start on some gardening, but I'm really not in the mood yet. I know once I get started I'll keep going until everything is finished. Luckily there isn't much to do. I would like to take a conifer up out of the front garden to put behind our water feature in the back, but apart from that and a bit of tiding up and weeding there isn't much to do in the ground. The big job is re-potting a few plants that have outgrown their smaller pots. All in all it should only take a week or two to do all that, so there's no rush.

We're out to see both mum's tomorrow to give them their mother's day cards as they are both out on Sunday, so we've decided to buy our tomato plants as they are in a garden centre half way between the two mum's. Sandra needs a few things so we'll be buying for her as well. We bought her some felt tips for Christmas so she has been busy colouring for months and the felts have almost ran out, hopefully I'll find a bigger pack for her and I'm going to see if I can find some more colouring books for her too. We decided to see my mum in the morning nip into town by MIL's then call in to MIL's on the way home, then we're not clock watching to get to the shops. My mum is going to her lunch club which is why we are going to her's first.

It sounds like you've all been busy again, I changed the bedding and did loads of washing in between watching TV which helped keep me awake. I'm planning on having an early night so I'm not to tired tomorrow when we go out.

I wonder where the lid and guttering ended up Ann, maybe you could ask your neighbours incase they were blown into their gardens. We heard some banging last night so OH went to check the fence behind the shed and it was loose, probably from the storm the other week, so he's tightened the screws and it's okay now.

Pleased to see you managed some more sleep Frank, how is your shoulder and hip now? Did you go for your walk along the canal?

How's Colin getting on with the rabbit run Mandy, the children are going to love it when it's finished?

It's been lovely weather here after a cloudy start, but it was spoilt a bit with the new neighbour knocking and banging trying to fix his new shed roof. None of the workmen turned up today, so much for the security camera going in. We did noticed the bedroom wardrobes being delivered, apparently they are fitted wardrobes so they'll be going in soon, or maybe not at the rate the jobs are being done. The boss tends to say one thing then do the opposite. OH said he noticed Lynn sitting on a deck chair by the shed while Kevin was working on it, she's got the right idea hasn't she lol. :-D

Annx Report 28 Mar 2019 19:48

I haven't been able to kneel or squat with my knees for over a decade Jane, so I can't have baths. I used to love a warm soak after working in the garden or a day out on holiday and with a glass of white sometimes! Now I don't do either. When I used to have more panic attacks years ago I felt them start a couple of times while I was in the bath and had to get out fast!! That has made me bit wary and not too fussed about having them anymore as well. Strangely I am hardly stiff in the mornings, yet if I sit for a while my knees get stiff when I stand up. They did today after lunch! I have the other Hayfever tablets with something in like Loratadine. I know they are ones that don't make you drowsy.

I managed to wash and dry 2 loads today so we are up to date now I think. I have also ordered a nice big modern wall clock for the lounge. :-)

OH was weary this afternoon so he's been doing work stuff on his computer. We had a mushroom and cheese omelette earlier and think we will be having an early night tonight. I feel ready to go now.

Good Evening all

Another lovely day here, had the usual Sainsbury delivery this morning then met up with three friends for a coffee and chat which was nice to catch up with all our news.
There is face book but I'd much rather talk face to face as do the others..

I do hope you brother's op went well Vera.and is now being made comfortable.

Frank I hope you had a good meal out what did Ros buy at the Garden Centre? Your garden will look a picture with all the plants that have been put in.

I'm also looking forward to seeing the Repair Shop next week I have been watching Money for Nothing in the afternoons also Escape to the Country. Sometimes there are better programmes in the afternoons, I usually watch Doctors when having a bite to eat for lunch.

I have to start taking Piriton tablets again as the silver birch are out again and it causes me sore eyes and runny nose.

I hope everyone gets a good nights sleep with no discomfort tonight.

I'm lucky at the moment the only aches and pains I get are in my thumb joints. I do get the occasional bad night due to restless legs not much I can do about it.

SuffolkVera Report 28 Mar 2019 20:47

I’m only gone for a day and there are so many posts to catch up on.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts for my brother. He is staying tonight in accommodation provided by the hospital and has the operation tomorrow. He has had a tough time over the last couple of years but has been an inspiration to us. He has stayed positive and upbeat throughout and I am sure his attitude has helped him recover well from each setback.

We have just got back from the funeral we went to today. It went as well as these occasions can but the whole ceremony, including a eulogy, bible reading etc was conducted by the priest with no family involvement at all. That might have been OK, if a bit impersonal, but he had a very soft voice and mumbled into his chest so we hardly heard a word he said.

We knew it would take about 1hr 45mins to get there but we allowed ourselves nearly 3 hours as the roads we had to use regularly have hold ups and delays. Of course we sailed straight there and were there much too early. It was different coming back; it took 2hrs 30mins. I am now tired and hungry so I am going to make some toast and then read for a while.

I hope you all get a good night’s rest and everyone’s aches and pains are easier tomorrow.

Vera what a journey you had coming home after the funeral. Shame the priest talked to his chest rather than the congregation. best wishes to your brother for tomorrow and we will all be thinking of him and hope it all goes well.

Frank your garden is going to look really super this year, you must try and get some pics to send us as you used to. We all love to see what Ros has planted.

Ann you hav'nt told us if your knees are any better after your injections. You tld us the first one was better but did the other one come out as well? Are you still getting pain in them?

Well not good news at the docs today. I have to go back for bloods nd snother pressure test as it was high again today and she took it again and it was worse! Asked if I had a blood pressure machine at home to which I nswered yes a little one and she said to get oh to do it for me. I don't understand the reading but he does. Our blood pressure monitor goes on your wrist and its a bit of a job to get on so oh will have to do it for me. Mine today was something over 157 I think. I was so upset about what she was saying to me I tried to think of a nice calm river we went to once and it was so clear we could see the little trout in it and all the pebbles were different colurs and the beech trees overhead had all their new leaves on them with the sun shining through against a lovely blue sky. It did'nt work......... She also said I have to go for a chest x ray to Stratton hospital and she will send me an appointment for that or ring me with it. So thats two more days lost going to hospitals and doctors. I don't like this getting old. :-| :-| :-P

I could have been in the garden this afternoon too doing what I want to do but I did go to Mole Valley and got myself charged up with plenty of potting compost. 2 abgs of multi purpose, one JI's no 1, 1 JI's no 2 and 1 JI's no 3 so now I can pot till al thats gone. I really must plant my sweet peas too as they have been waiting to go for over a week or so now.
