Any power pylons over the area, Daff?

What was the source of water?

I am sure that there is a connection with asbestos and prefabs Daff, I seem to remember there was a problem when they were demolishing them.

Well we knew R should not have gone to work didn't we???

T has a thick head this morning, I feel fine. I should add that the large drink we had at Meme's was not the first of the day. We shared a bottle of cava before we went out, then at the restaurant there was a complimentary glass of dry sherry and we had a half litre of house red (which is quite a light wine). Good job we are home Saturday, my liver wouldn't stand much more.

Huia, I am not too sure about the pylons, I can't remember any... but there are beauties here, within spitting distance of my back fence, lol but we have only lived here since Sept 05. I am not sure what the water supply was... but it was Welsh water at the time, and probably wasn't contaminated.... if it was, most of Birmingham would have been ill by now, lol Edit: I have just thought.... actually there are masses of power pylons not all that far away, but it is a mile or so, I wouldn't think it was that. But... we all used to play there. I would like to know if it was just our little street or whether there were more that we did not know about spread over a wider area. This lady's mum still lives in the house, so maybe she'll know better.

Ann, you are right about the asbestos... and I know that the coalhouse roof was made of it. Also, I think it was used in the wall linings to insulate.

I don't actually blame anything... it is almost certainly been a series of triggers, which switched on the faulty gene... and nothing can now change that, it happened, and was going to happen. I can't be doing with the *why me* and never could.... although that is not to say I haven't felt sorry for myself and poorme.com, lol

But if it can be prevented for triggering the process in other children, then that is only a good thing, so I will do all I can to help the specialists understand how it all began.

Ann, tsk tsk.... poor T!! ;¬)) That is what holidays are for... enjoy the last couple of days!

As for R... I took GREAT delight in saying *I told you so* lolol...... so he won't be going back in tomorrow, either.

Daff, not sure where you grew up exactly but there were cases of childhoos leukaemia around the Severn Estuary area I am sure, this was back in the 70s, I seem to remember the power stations being mentioned. It is interesting, as you say not to lay blame but finding a possible cause is half the battle for future generations.

Ahhhhhh!! The Severn Estuary... which is a quarter of a mile from us here... and a little bit further along the coastline....a quarter of a mile from where I lived as well.... and an area known as the lambies was where we used to go on hot summer days with our jam sandwiches and bottles of pop.... the lambies is where the estuary floods at high tide, some areas only at the highest of high tides (I live in what used to be one of those areas now, reclaimed) My mother always said the air was bad there... and that is where I started with all the strange rashes and sensitivities/allergies.

I will look carefully at that, thank you.... it sounds very very interesting!!

I know there were cases in the Lydney area and I believe also on the Cotswold side.

And Chepstow... and there have been clusters all along the Estuary.... it makes sense, actually. I have always said that all my silly little niggles were caused by something in childhood.... I used to play on those mudflats, and there are about 6 powerstations pumping in on both sides at that point....

I was tough as nails, I reckon, so avoided it in childhood... but have had other triggers which have all been about wrong place wrong time. But the foundation stone for this was almost certainly from then... I lived there from 4 until age 11, so just as my body was developing. I used to go swimming in the little *pools* of tidal flow... a whole load of us did... of course, we were banned from going, which all added to the thrill!

I have e-mailed my consultant with all the references and the numbers who have had cancers. We would have been the first generation growing up there.

I find it all very fascinating... almost from an academic rather than a personal position. I will keep dredging up info.....

Hi all,
Have finally admitted to myself that l am suffering with depression and have made a doctors appointment for Tuesday am...........am so fed up with crying.
Daff l wondered about a certain area in Southampton where my sister used to live as she told me she lost both her next door neighbours when they were quite young then my sister died at 48 and her OH was 67 when he died and all died of cancer, did make me think.
Got quite cross yesterday as Eds firm came out to tell him that he is now finished with them, that did upset him but we knew it was coming but what annoyed me was that just before the accident he was paid 8 hours overtime for the extra day they have to work for the run up for Xmas and seeing Ed never worked it they were going to deduct the hours from his final pay packet................shame on you Morrisons Ed was a bl@@dy good employee, put his heart and soul into the job.
BC so sorry that l never got the chance to wave my hanky ( whoops haven't got one ). lol.
Daff hope OH feels better soon.

As far as cancer is concerned, they say that one in 3 of us will have it at some stage in our lives... but when they happen in clusters like that..... yes, it makes you think.

Mummo, good on you for admitting to depression. That is half the battle, to talk about it, and the sooner the better. If you bottle it up it just gets worse and harder to climb out of. Best wishes to you and Eddie.

Mummo, I would be very surprised if you were not depressed, you had the shock of Eddie's fall, then supporting him while in hospital, coping with everything with little or no help from those who should have given you support and now coping with a move forced on you by circumstances which is traumatic and upsetting. I am surprised you lasted this long.

I sooo admire you and you should feel proud of yourself for coping so well, many would have fallen at the first hurdle. So, well done for making a doctors appointment and admitting how you feel. You can pm me any time, but you already know that I'm sure. Try and snatch a few minutes for yourdelf if you can to collect your thoughts. I am thinking of you both. Take care.

Mummo I so agree with Ann, you and Eddie have been through so much in a short space of time and you have coped with looking after Eddie and keeping things going and now the move which is stressful enough when it has been planned for some time how much more so when in your situation.

hi there well here we arae a week off its Half term
hope everyones journeys are event free and enjoying their breaks .I am really going to slow right down next week and enjoy myself have a couple of jobs to do but they will be easy enough .

Ann and T have a lovely flight home.... and the rain is awaiting your arrival. It is chucking it down here! Still, the gardens really need it.

Daff I am very well thank you for asking, we have finally got around to buying the paper and paint etc for the bedrooms just have to empty the wardrobes and move them. Why do we have so much stuff? lol

Hello Ladies,
thankyou so much for all your hugs, pm's and lovely thoughts for me these last few days.
I have a afternoon on my own as my son has taken Ed over the flat as last week the hallway was painted a beigey colour and to me it looked more like a pink/ peach colour and l wasn't happy with it so my son is now painting it old faithful *magnolia*.
Hopefully we will be in the flat on Thursday/ Friday so that will help me.
I am trying to sort out the shower controls at the moment as would you believe there outside of the shower so have O.T. coming out on Wednesday to take a look and get it sorted.
We are not going far this weekend as weather is yuk, lol,.
Really do hope you all have a nice long weekend and Ann sorry the sun isn't shining for your return.

Well we are home, flights all on time and uneventful.
Daff I think I have topped all your absentmindedness/losing things etc. I left my netbook on the security desk in Madrid. Don't ask we if, when or how I will get it back, Madrid is not the most honest of places and it was heaving so somebody may have had a windfall. Luckily it is only mainly used for note taking, keeping in touch while away, nothing of importance stored on there.

Anyway back to the jungle that passes as a garden!
