Well I feel exhausted just reading what you have been doing Daff. I haven't put any seeds in my tubs yet, that will be this weekend I think, and T will also put the potatoes in then in the tub. He has cut down so much this week we were pleased to see the brown bin men this morning as we couldn't get another twig in. And out compost bins are pretty full too.

So... a summary of the morning.... pc problems, now sorted, son up early, about to go and play in the garden centre... son is handing cv in... and I shall be taking the opportunity to get the heavy stuff.

The weather is cloudy but warm.... little spits of rain, but the sun is trying to break through... and I slept in til 9.30!!!

Mummo, throw him in?????? lol.... we have some lovely expressions between us all, lolol

I love Chichester... my sons went to school for a while in that area (Arundel)

Maz, Gizmo sounds like he and Jethro would be kindred souls, lolol

Ann, our re-cycling bin goes out today, so I'll have a nice clean one for the rest of the debris over the weekend!!

I had pc problems too, lost my e mail messages but I have found them again. Had problems yesterday as well, pc wouldn't start so had to start in repair mode (whatever that is). Sooo today I have put all my important files on a flash thingy because I just have a feeling there is something going on, I can feel a new pc coming on!!!

T home from golf way before I expected him so I had better stop playing and go and have lunch - I did do a load of washing, clean the bathroom and washed the kitchen floor before going to fetch the papers so feel quite virtuous.

MrDaff Report 17 Mar 2010 16:50

Ann, you had your pc a couple of months after I had mine... and as you know, I have been having problems since before Christmas... and I have had time to think this through....

I go for the conspiracy theory, I do.............

Vista wasn't as well liked as was anticipated.... and the new Windows 7 or whatever is supposed to be excellent... and similar/compatible with xp and xp programmes.... so I reckon all the uploads (or downloads, always get my ups and downs muddled up) are craftily designed to knock out Vista programmes, starting with the early ones... mine was very early (I got it reduced cos the new wave were coming in)

So.... that is my theory.... what do you reckon???? ;¬))

So that is two of us feeling a new pc coming on? Only I have to decide on pc or oven.... and the oven is driving me nuts........... *sighs*

BC, lol... I have lost a couple of plants, too, this year... one I haven't a clue what it is called (well, two, cos I had two of that one.... hope you are following? lol) lost a cordyline, and possibly an abutilon (I think that's what it's called) and a clematis... oh, and possibly a fatsia, that doesn't look very happy at all.....

What colour are you painting the bathroom? I fancy a change... only hubby would throw a fit if he knew what colour I was thinking of, lol... purple, a sort of muddy aubergine shade... the tiles are all white... except the ones with leaves on them, and they are silver-etched... I just think it'll look fabulous.... the alternative is pink... deep fuschia pink.. really blowsy and in your face lipstick, lol

Then I'd need new towels as well......... Maybe I'll just get white towels..... lolol

This site is costing me a fortune, lololol ;¬))

Love

AnninGlos Report 17 Mar 2010 17:10

I too lost a cordyline and we also lost a couple of clematis also a few other plants in pots that are half hardy and would normally survive the winter but not this last one.

My PC has been running slow for ages, I do tend to leave Genes minimised on it while on other things and we proved yesterday that Genes running in the background uses a lot of memory. However several times it has refused to start up properly and there is no apparent reason. Yes, I have Vista, which I actually like but it does seem that it is problematic.
I reckon they have done so many patches and updates etc that the poor PCs have got muddled brains.

With the photos T thought he had copied them once then when he looked he couldn't find anything except programmes on the hard drive. So he copied the photos I think using 'send to' as you would with a flash drive and that seems to have worked.

MrDaff Report 17 Mar 2010 17:20

At the moment.... my pc won't allow me to upload photos from the external hard drive, either... it works perfectly on R's, B's and on my laptop... but not on mine.. so it has to be my pc with an attitude problem... well, mine and yours, lol

I have this image of two pc's with piercings, tattoos and shed loads of bling ambling menacingly off into the sunset, kicking bins as they go, lolol!!

I had been warned by his Mum. I am hoping that is where it stops. He actually only wore one most of the time but 2 when we went out. He has long hair too but tied it back during the day and only wore it loose after he'd washed it. at least he doesn't die it black any more.

Hi there.

My OH grew up in Sussex and knew Chichester quite well. I doubt if he would remember it now, though I have no idea what is going on in his brain. He lived in Red Copse and Halnaker. He went to Boxgrove Church, and on one occasion fell asleep when he was supposed to be pumping the church organ!

What are you lot doing to our cabbage trees? That is the name the Europeans gave to our native Cordylines. The Maori call it Ti. A few years back a lot of them were dying off and the scientists came to the conclusion it was caused by some virus injected in them by a sap sucking insect, but whether that has caused yours to die or whether it is just your extremely cold weather I dont know. We do have a mountain cordyline which would probably survive snow but I dont know if that is the variety you grow, or even if it is a New Zealand variety. My book of native plants says Cordyline is 'a genus found in the southern warm temperate and tropical regions.'

Huia.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 17 Mar 2010 21:07

Hi Huia, the intense frost plus the snow killed our cordyline, we had not tied the leaves up as previous winters had been very mild. The snow got into the crown and the frost froze the snow so that when it melted it was too wet and it rotted.

Good morning all...hehehe..I got in before Maz! Not a bad day here I think but haven't been out yet. Daff, I am painting the bathroom a silvery grey (with bright pink towels etc) and am dying to start it but am having friends for lunch so I had better wait. My whole flat needs painting but it is too big a job for me, unfortunately, so I shall have to settle for the bathroom for now...lol...

I hope everyone has a lovely day.

Good morning from me.............Had a lovely day yesterday, don't think Ed would agree with me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! had a quick look round the market (didn't buy anything) and then went out and had a look round the main street in Chichester, well what a bumpy ride he had but got through it ok, lol.
Afterwards we went to Bognor Regis, drove along the front, there was a few people sitting on the beach, mind you they did have their coats on then went and had some lunch, even had some lovely pancakes with sugar, lemon and cornish ice cream, mmmmm.
Weather was good, l only had a t.shirt on with trousers and l was quite warm.
Not doing anything today, Eddie has the rehabilitation lady coming this morning to see how he washes himself, that should be a laugh.
BC sounds more like a nightmare than a dream, lol.
Well ladies speak soon, take care, x

It is a bit grizzly this morning, weather-wise.... still, it isn't actually raining, just threatening to, if anyone dares to upset it.... so I shan't say a word!!

Ouch, Mummo, lolol.... poor Eddie!

I haven't got much planned for today..... some more seeds to be planted up.. I bought the tumbling tomatoes and strawberry seeds yesterday, and they will go in the stacking container I found, eventually... oh, and I bought a small polytunnel, too, so we can put the rest of the seeds out over the weekend, and they will be protected from a hard frost. The tomatoes are for in here, but I have cucumber, courgettes and some other more delicate plants, so they will all go in the conservatory for the time being. I shall have to tidy away some of my craft stuff for a couple of weeks!

I also have two new clematis to plant in....... one yellow, and one pink and white.

Other than that, I am going to doss around... I have a busy weekend planned, so don't want to be knackered before I start.... oh, and I start physio next Tuesday. :¬((

BC, that was scary.... oh, and my bathroom is already silver grey... it just needs brightening, I think.... it doesn't really need painting, I just fancy a change... but R and B would be horrified if I painted it pink.... Maybe I'll just get some new pink towels for me.... we have a deep burgundy red at the moment.

~~~~~~~ to Ann.
Huia, my cordyline went the same way as Ann's.... it was in a very sheltered spot, too, and seeing as I haven't lost any of my delicate plants.... and all this gumf about climate change and global warming, lol.... anyway... I have yet to see if I have lost all my half hardy fuschia... I will be gutted, as I have had them since... well, since about 2001, which isn't bad!!
I will have to google it... our cordylines, or the ones I know, are like swords, not cabbages, lolol!!
Have a lovely day, everyone, however you choose to spend it.
Sorry I am going to repeat myself here for those who read the scrap book thread.
I have been instructed by the gardener not to plant my seeds until after the weekend as apparently we are expecting heavy rain which will do the seeds no good but will be good for the compost. So i am sitting here while himself renovates the garden furniture. we were in town this morning, offloaded another pile of books to the charity shop and spent £20 of M&S vouchers and they had a sale on!! (Oh I added a little bit extra to the vouchers!)
Had brunch in Wetherspoons at 11.45, vegie breakfast which I prefer to the meat one and COFFEE, no wine today feel very virtuous. Place was heaving, I think we have more Irish in Gloucestershire than Ireland!!!
Weather here is overcast but warm and dry.
If you have tumbler seeds Daff have you checked when they should be planted, the expert is not here at the moment but I am sure he said it was too early to plant them yet. And, you don't get many of those in a packet so you don't want to risk losing them.
MrDaff Report 18 Mar 2010 15:39
Afternoon all... I have just had a bowl of oxtail soup... home made, found it when I was rummaging in the freezer for something tasty...... lovely!! I have been freezing today... with odd little flare-ups of *tropical moments* lol... sounds funny, but they are damned uncomfortable!!
Ann... I think they are for April, so not intending them to go in just yet... got all the bits ready for them, though.
Just checked.... indoors Feb to March, outdoors April onwards... we will do them next week, I expect... same as the strawberries, they can go straight into the containers in here... and just be put outside to harden off as the weather gets warmer, no more transplanting to do, just thinning out.
I haven't done a great deal... had two long phone calls, one from my brother, the other from the young lady who used to own Peg/Jess... she only lives a few doors away... and to be honest she sounded really fed up, full of cold and her little girl was crying in the background....
my instinct was to say come around, and we'll entertain littlie together... but I had to stop myself! So I suggested she come around next week for an hour or so... her little girl is the same age as my Littlie, so hopefully, they will hit it off when madam comes to stay.... and they will be company for each other... it will be nice for S to have a friend her own age when she comes to stay.... there aren't many youngsters here, they are all older, or even grown up, so this little one has no neighbourhood friends, either.
Son has had final notification from uni that he has got onto the Masters course he wanted... in fact he has been accepted for the one (a taught Masters) and also had it pointed out that he also qualifies for the research masters, which if he chooses to do, they will ensure is structured to suit his own interests. They are interested in him expanding on his thesis for his degree... so that is a huge relief... he had been told verbally, but hadn't had it in writing.
It is now chucking it down with rain.......
Ann, R and I had a conversation last night, and I am sure I am right, lol.... we moved down to Glos on 10th March... and all the years we lived there, I am sure that Cheltenham Gold Cup week was the week that had the 10th or 12th in it.... is it late this year? I used to try and get annual leave when I was on the community/worked in Tewkesbury and the other side of the racecourse to our side...... I am sure I am right!! lolol!
Sounds like you had a good haul at M & S lol...... and sooooo virtuous, too, lolol
I am not in the mood for doing anything else... might take myself back to bed, lolol.... it is either that, or turn the heating on... in between flushes I am freezing!
Wonder if BC has finished eating her friends and started on her bathroom yet??? Or maybe locked her friends in the bathroom and not let them out until they have decorated the *throne room* lol
