Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Jan 2021 11:00

Happy new year all lets hope its a better one for all of us and everybody everywhere.

Morning all sunny and white here this morning.

Oh has made a nice orange jelly withy manderins in it. its his favorite so thats something for dessert tonight.

All the bird feeders need filling up so he has his jobs for today.

Frank should you not be staying and not venturing out at all at the moment?

Covid-19: Tougher restrictions 'absolutely essential'

SuffolkVera Report 1 Jan 2021 11:01

Frank, if you are in Tier 4, there shouldn’t be anywhere open for you to have a meal. The best you can do is have a takeaway. We shouldn’t be leaving our homes except for certain limited reasons and shouldn’t have anyone in either. I know I sound a right killjoy but I would hate for you or Ros to put yourselves at risk or to get a fine for not sticking to the rules.

Have a good New Year’s Day everyone but take care and stay safe

MillymollyAmanda Report 1 Jan 2021 11:31

Every where will be shut Frank as your like us in tier 4 i think the only places open will be super markets and takeaways ,but not sure they will be today as it's new years day .
All veg done and beef in the tin , we have sorted out the indoor bin as the green bin should be emptied tomorrow .

We got the outside lights down the other day and then I realised we had left the little twinkly stick lights out in one of the shrubs ,they had rechargeable batteries in and needed charging again so they hadn't been on that's why I forgot them .

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE <3 <3 <3

Let's hope this year is a better one than last year.

Raining here today, we never got the snow in the end.

Sandra's phone is still playing up so she's decided to see if she can take it to a phone repair shop on Monday to see if they can fix it. She said she didn't want it in the rice anymore, but I managed to persuade her it'll help. Her phone is working better each time she turns it on but because it's not 100% yet, she gets upset. It's only been in rice for 5 days,

OH and I are sure eventually it'll dry out but Sandra hasn't got the patients to wait. I've been letting her use my phone to speak to people but I have a very old Nokia phone with a green screen....remember them lol. So she can only text or make phone calls on it. It's better than nothing but all she wants is her phone working properly again. Maybe she's learnt a lesson not to take her phone into the bathroom when she's having a bath. Time will tell though.

Going to watch the news now, we're a bit confused over the second dose of the vaccine, so we're hoping it'll tell us what's happening. OH's suppose to be having his second dose on Monday but we're not sure if he'll be given it or not, so far he's not been told not to go, but according to the news people aren't being told until they get there which isn't good for him as he works nights and the queue takes hours to get through, so he doesn't want to be hanging around if when he gets to the front of the queue they turn him away.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 1 Jan 2021 14:10

Gill I think it is highly likely that your OH should get his second dose, I hopw so anyway as in his job he needs to be 95% safe rather than 50%.

Poor Sandra, it must be difficult for her to have to be patient with the phone, it just shows how addicted these young ones get though.

Has everyone still got their decorations up? I will probably take mine down tomorrow or Sunday. They give me a bit of comfort though as they cheer the place up. I certainly don't need any help to feel miserable at the moment.

I have just put the heating on, it is really cold in the house today and sitting around doesn't help.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Jan 2021 15:02

I do agree Anng about sitting about makes you feel the cold. With this arm I am not doing anything but just feel cold all the time.

My arm is a lot better today so I think 9it is getting better slowoly.

Oh did cheese on toast fopr lunch and it was lovely followed by a slice of yule log which Em got me from Tesco and it was frozen which was good so it went in the freezer till last night.

I always keep my decs up till the 5th as I love my Christmas lights. Its going to look so drab and dreary when it all comes down.

Frank Report 1 Jan 2021 16:03

BORED OUT OF MY BRAIN. What a way to spend your day. No where to go, and no one to see.

My youngest Nephew Garry rang this morning. He is brother Bills son. He still lives at home with his mum. He phoned to say he was standing outside my INFANTS SCHOOL (RAY LODGE) He was out walking the dog, and remembered his Mum mentioning this was my infants school. My oh my, did that bring some memories flooding back to the 1940s. Mel might remember that school in SNAKES LANE.

As you all rightly said, everywhere is in SHUT DOWN. I knew that, but thought how nice it would be to get out from the FOUR WALLS.

Ros has made a chicken curry for this evening. I did offer to have a takeaway delivered, but she decided to make this instead.

I can't remember being so BORED, I have come away from the T.V. for a break.

I hope you are all well, and enjoy the rest of your day. See you in the morning. xxxx

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Jan 2021 16:07

Frank I had a boyfriend who lived in Snakes Lane and right by the church. Used to go shopping with mum the other side of the station and my god mother lived just behind snakes lane.

Afternoon All,

Another damp, dreary day today to start the New Year! We have drawn the curtains already.

This was on the BBC News site 8 hours ago Gill so it looks like we will all have 12 weeks to wait between our 2 vaccinations now.

'The UK will give both parts of the Oxford and Pfizer vaccines 12 weeks apart, having initially planned to leave 21 days between the Pfizer jabs.

The British Medical Association said cancelling patients booked in for their second doses was "grossly unfair".

But the chief medical officers said getting more people vaccinated with the first jab "is much more preferable".'

Frank what are you thinking, trying to book a meal! You can't travel out of your area to a lower tier either so a takeaway is all you can get. We are in Tier 4 too and can only go out for essentials and for permitted exercise.

Glad your arm is improving a bit Mel. So is my knee and I can walk carefully and slowly now instead of limp! Your OH is good doing the jelly with mandarins. I used to do trifles like that with sponge in the base, custard and then whipped cream on top of the jelly. We are having the mint Viennetta later today.

Mandy my jigsaw is of a house with trees and lawn. It is a Perfalock puzzle which I haven't tried before and the box is quite small. It's supposed to not come apart easily when you are doing it, but it sounds like it may be a fiddle when you take it apart to put away instead! I'll let you know!

Afternoon all

Damp, dreary and cold!
I had planned to start the aforementioned art/craft challenges but just not in the mood sadly :-( I don't mind not going out as the weather is so dismal.

Annx, yes it was that tiny oval button that had me in flight mode but nowhere online was there any mention of it. My fella eventually spotted it on my laptop and tried moving it and Voila!
I've also been switching off annoyances on Outlook too. Fingers crossed.
Now I'm having trouble finding instructions on how to disable the touchpad - google is not my friend there :-|

Tomorrow is another day.......

SuffolkVera Report 1 Jan 2021 17:59

I'm afraid you are not alone in being sick of the same four walls Frank and being bored rigid. If it's any consolation to you I think you have visited, or been visited by, more people than the rest of us. I do know what you mean though, somehow it's hard to snap out of the lethargy and get motivated to do anything.

I feel privileged that I was able to spend most of Christmas Day with my daughter and granddaughter but I haven't seen my son or other grandchildren for over 14 months now and haven't had a meal out since last February. I am also sick of shopping online all the time.Oh well, moan over; it's the price we must pay to keep well.

I'm not surprised Sandra is missing her phone Gill. I sometimes think that the younger generation have grown phones on to their hands :-) They certainly don't seem to be able to manage without them for more than 5 minutes at a time.

AnnG, we don't put our decorations up much before Christmas but then leave them up till 12th night. We don't have many decs up at all this year. We just have the cards displayed in the hall - 72 this year - a wreath on a garden gate and the tree. I hate taking the tree down as we always have a fairly large, bushy one and it looks so pretty with the lights and all the decorations in red and gold. I do hope T. has had a peaceful day and the medical staff just let him sleep now.

HELP, I've just seen the time. I told OH that dinner would be at 7 pm and I haven't even started any preparation yet. I'd better fly.

Annx Report 1 Jan 2021 18:03

Do you mean the touchpad to move the mouse on your laptop Island? If so, I just plugged in an ordinary mouse in one of the ports on the side and it works without needing to disable the laptop touchpad. We are now wireless, so I have a wireless mouse that has a small plug in bit that fits in a port in the same way, but no wire to the mouse. Those touchpads are so slow and frustrating, much better with an ordinary mouse.

I just opened the parcel with the jacket in that was one of my Christmas presents. I really like it. It's black with a little fabric Robin brooch you can unpin from the lapel. It is a bit tight as I wanted it to be, but it will soon fit as most of the choccies and cake have been eaten now!

Well I meant to say the fireworks didn't last very long at midnight which surprised us! I think there were as many the previous few nights.

I'm back to the painting for a while now. OH beat me again at Scrabble. He's won 3 out of 4 games now and today he scored over 400! I can't compete with that.

Island

Island Report 1 Jan 2021 18:47

Ann
I have a wireless mouse but plugging in the dongle(?) doesn't always disable the touchpad. My previous laptop had a tiny light which, allegedly, disabled the touchpad - it didn't so I resorted to sticking one of those card guards over it. :-|

Annx

Annx Report 1 Jan 2021 19:39

My touchpad isn't disabled Island, so swiping it still works, but if I move my hand to the seperate mouse, that will work instead of the touchpad and move the cursor. I hadn't even realised the touchpad could be disabled, so I did some googling! It suggests you can do it under 'touchpad' in the settings. There is a Youtube video.

I hope yours is whatever you wish EOS.

Just read that the Police issued £74,000 in fines here between 7.00am yesterday and 7.00am today for breaking Covid rules. Mostly for gatherings in houses for New Year parties. A friend of mine said fireworks were being let off last night in the middle of the road where she lives.

AnninGlos Report 2 Jan 2021 09:23

Good morning all, bright and sunny and 0 degrees here. I was awake at five until gone six then went back to sleep and just woke up

Doctor phone daughter again yesterday, getting annoyed with this one. It seems every time he is moved into a new ward with a new doctor, they start all over again. Daughter had to point out that she had answered all the same questions every time he moved (apparently the paperwork had 'not caught up yet'). thought this was the digital age. Anyway, this is a female junior doctor, (who is quite pleasant), She wanted to talk about 'what happened when he was in Cheltenham'. Well that was 7 weeks ago and that is where he caught Covid. Basically it seems their aim is to get poor T on his feet and walking. (remember she told us the day before he was not eating, was sometimes delirious and was sleeping a lot. Previous doctor (in Stroud) told daughter he was deteriorating a lot and losing weight, his voice was very weak etc etc.
Anyway, now this latest doctor is getting the physio team to look at him to se if he can be rehabilitated. If they think there is a chance he can they will try and send him to Stroud. If not (and here she was going to suggest home but daughter repeated that our house is not convenient unless he can walk some steps without a zimmer). (daughter luckily does have some patience as this should be documented somewhere). So if not home it will have to be a nursing home or hospice. (I guess the latter will be full).
So now we have to wait until the next visit and report from the physio team. Pity they moved him to gloucester from Stroud for treatment. It seems we go round in circles and end up back at square one. (is that mixing metaphors or something")

Better get on and get dressed.

Gillx Report 2 Jan 2021 10:59

Thanks everyone for letting me know about the second injection, OH hasn't been told it's cancelled yet, so unless he is he's going to go to the hospital and see what happens. I noticed online that they were cancelling the second jabs after Monday, but knowing the way things go it's probably changed by now. All he can do is go and hope he has the second dose as the home he's working in are hoping to have visitors soon, they are building something to make it safe, but nowadays nothing is 100% safe which is a bit of a concern for him.

Poor T AnnG, it all sounds very confusing, I hope the physio team can help. Moving him from hospital to hospital isn't going to help with his confusion. Fancy the doctor's not letting each hospital know what's already been done. Let's hope their communication with each other improves soon, your daughter must be fed up of repeating herself all the time.

I had to smile at a comment my mum made yesterday Ann. She said if it wasn't for people gathering at Christmas then the virus wouldn't be so bad. She's one of those people who invited people to her house over Christmas, including Boxing day, which wasn't allowed. She's always inviting other's to her house and she's always breaking all the rules, going into other area's just for a game of bingo. I never said anything, it wasn't worth it as she never listens anyway.

Mum's having problems with her phone and insisted when she rang me a few times yesterday that I'd hung up then turned my phone off, I said three times my phone hadn't rang, it wasn't until Sandra said my phone had only rang once, which was the call we were on, that she believed me. It's her landline phone that's playing up and she had decided to ring me on her mobile, which is why she'd finally got through to me.

Sandra's phone is still playing up so she's decided to take it to a phone repair shop next week, she's fed up of waiting for the rice to work and said she wants her phone back now. I don't think she realises she'll have to leave the phone at the shop and all they'll do is dry it out and then charge her. She thinks they'll sort it out there and then. The fuss she's making about her broken phone is rediculas, I feel sorry for her and I'm doing all I can to help, but anyone would think she'd had her arm cut off the fuss she's making and it's starting to annoy OH, he had to tell her to stop shouting at me yesterday as it was her own fault and not mine. Let's hope it's fixed soon, then things can get back to normal again. I wouldn't mind but she's using my phone to speak to people, so it's not like she's totally cut off from the world.

morning Anng and all,

What a time you are having with them sending poor T from pillar to post.Talk about the digital age being quicker, they just can't keep up with him the way they are moving him about. Its enough to get anyone in their right mind muddled let alone a poor confused unwell man.

Weathers not that good here today. It was bright earlier on but its clouded over now and we are back to dull and dreary and drab. 4.8 degrees out there and still a tiny bit of ice and snow here and there.
