Good morning all, slept reasonably well last night but do keep waking up early. I have showered and washed my hair and stripped the bed and it is only 8am. The trouble is that makes it a really long day. Can't really see what the weather is doing as it is still dark but it is1 degree out there. I really need to go to the post office today but I will see what the weather looks like.

Morning all
Raining here, we never got any snow yesterday but it was very cold.
Sandra said to say thank you for her Christmas presents Vera and Mel. Yours arrived today Mel, so she's only just opened it.
Sandra's a bit down in the dumps at the moment, she accidentally dropped her phone in the bath yesterday and now it's not working. I've put it into some rice so hopefully once it's dried out it'll work again, but she's not a happy bunny at the moment as she's normally on her phone all day.
I recorded a film so I might see if she wants to watch it, I asked earlier and she said no, but she might change her mind and watch it now. I'm watching a programme on the 80's and so far it's really boring, so it'd be nice to watch a film with Sandra instead, while OH's in bed off his night shift.

Good morning to you all, Ros has gone to the hospital, After a very restless night, I got up at 8.00 am. Sitting reading with the T.V. on MUTE. John GRISHAM. is the author of my book which is called A TIME FOR MERCY. As mentioned last night it's about a boys trial for shooting his Mums boyfriend, who he thinks Murdered Her. Very good read.
Nothing to report from this end, I haven't even been out doors yet.
Will see how the day goes, so I might be back later. xxxx

Back from the post office, 20+ minutes in the queue I was number 13 when I got there but all but 2 of us were outside and well spaced, all wearing masks. goodness knows why it was so busy, possibly people posting returns I suppose, anyway that is done now.
gill have you goy an airing cupboard, if so put the phone in there as well as in the rice. such a pity my OH is not here. The last GR phone to suffer like that he had sent to him. Sometimes he could fix them but sometimes not so be prepared for more tears when it is not fixed and tell Sandra there is a lesson to be learned there. Mobile phones and water do not mix. hope it dries out for her though if only for your sake Gill.
enjoy your book Frank.

Another grey, gloomy day and only 2 degrees. OH went for a walk at 9 o’clock this morning and came back looking frozen. I’ve done the ironing and had a coffee, now I’m trying to summon up the energy to clean the bathrooms.
That was a long queue at your PO AnnG. I should think it was a bit nippy having to stand around.
Poor Sandra. I hope her phone dries out OK but, as AnnG said, it might be a good lesson. Leave the phone outside the bathroom!
I hope your arm is feeling a bit easier now Mel. I wonder what you did to it.
You’ve got a good memory Ann, remembering that it was a metatarsal injury I had. I broke the 3rd, 4th and 5th metatarsals.
Our neighbour has her ironing lady indoors at the moment but we are in Tier 4 and she shouldn’t have anyone in. She knocked for something a couple of days ago and said to OH that she hadn’t seen us around. That’s because we check she isn’t outside before we venture out. Isn’t that awful? I really feel guilty but she has so many people in and stands so close when she talks to you that we try and avoid her.
Sainsbury’s are delivering this afternoon and apparently there is nothing missing but there are 4 subs. That’s really unusual as I seldom have more than one with them or Tesco’s. Two are fine, one is going back and I’m dithering about the other one.
OH has just brought me a glass of wine. That’s unusual in the middle of the day but we are having our main meal at lunchtime today so I expect that’s why he thought of it.
Take care and stay safe everyone.

Gosh that was a long wait Anng at the PO but you got some nice fresh air.
Vera oh is cooking our main meal as i type. We are having a nice fry up with new pot chips. Arm is still very sore when i lift it up but i managed to have a nice wash this morning but it took mr ages. After that i unplaited my hair and redid it so i feel tidier now.
Your neighbour sounds a very naughty lady having people in and expecting you to go and talk to her.
Gill Sandra should know not to take her phone in the bath with her, silly Billy. Hope the rice works or she will have to get a new one. Is it a pay as you go?

No it's not a pay as you go phone Mel, it's an expensive Google smart phone, I asked her if she got any insurance with it but she said no. I don't think the warranty will cover accidental damage, she's had the phone for less than a year. She's still in a mood but watched the Alvin and the chipmunks film I recorded and now we're going to watch Grease. Hopefully her phone will dry out by tomorrow, if not then she'll have to buy herself a new phone, which won't be cheap. I'd of thought she'd of learnt a lesson, but she's still going to take it into the bathroom with her, so maybe not.
Your neighbour sounds like my mum Vera, she had people at her's on Boxing day as well as Christmas day. There were three households on Boxing day, this is why I don't visit her or let her visit us, we talk on the phone, but until we've all had our vaccinations they'll be no physical contact it's just to risky. Don't feel bad about checking she's not outdoors before you go out, after all you're doing the right thing keeping your distance and can't be blamed for following the rules and keeping yourself safe. We're so close to being vaccinated it's just not worth taking a risk this close to hopefully the virus ending for everyone.
Your book sounds interesting Frank, is it a true story?
20 minutes is a long time to be in a queue AnnG, but I suppose with social distancing all queues are going to take that little bit longer. At least you know you're keeping safe which is the main thing right now. I don't have an airing cupboard so I've put it on our bedroom, it's south facing and the sun is out, plus it's near a radiator, with the heating being on it's quite warm, but not to hot to damage the battery. With a bit of luck it'll dry out okay, maybe if she's without her phone for long enough, she might learn a lesson. Time will tell I suppose.
Well, I've got the film on pause and Sandra's waiting so I'd better go and press play.

Evening All,
I was still awake at 3.00am, mostly because of ASDA! I thought I'd check if my next recurring slot was showing and it was at last, but not when I expected it on 3/1/21 but just the one after that on 17/1/21. Well I was really annoyed and looked at the email they sent a while back and it clearly said there would be no recurring slots between 19/12 and 2/1 so why wasn't my slot due 3/1 showing? :-S Anyway, I panicked as I thought all the other people with slots on the 3rd that had been let down as well would be grabbing the slots you have to book! I managed to get one on 4/1 thank goodness and proceeded to put some items in the basket as the slot was only saved for a few hours. I managed to complete it but then found I had filled the basket for the 17th instead!!! I called it a day and hoped for the best then as the tablet I was using doesn't show you your orders as there is a banner across the top blocking it. This morning both slots were showing though so Phewww!!!
I didn't wake up till nearly 10.00am and OH brought me a cuppa so it was nearer 11.00am before I was up and showered. There was snow outside when I drew the curtains, not much but it had settled on the rooftops. A parcel arrived (my new jacket!) and hubby fetched it in and wished the postie a Happy New Year. He said that the Postie must think he spends all day in his jim jams as he is usually still in them when he calls. :-D
Neither of us have done much today other than nibble at things. OH got stuff out to do his tax return but that's as far as he got with it! I did a pan of pork steaks simmered with onions, apple, mushrooms and garlic and cider to make a Somerset pork casserole for New Year's Day. Some cream that needs using went in at the end and I can freeze it then and freeze the rest of the cream to have with Black Forest gateau after it on the day.
Who was a silly Sandra then having her phone in the bath. I wouldn't trust the battery after it's been wet as they can set on fire like a camera one can even when dry.
Frank that sounds a good book you are reading at the moment. I like those kind myself.
It seems quiet here at the moment. The last 3 nights there have been fireworks going off. No doubt warming up for the New Year!
AnnG that was quite a queue at the Post Office but at least they were being sensible.
Mel I hope your arm starts to settle down now and that the swelling goes down. They say ice for swelling don't they?
Vera we do just the same with our neighbour one side of us! He stands far too close to people he sees to chat to and even bends his head down to talk through their open car windows if they stop. He got into the habit of hanging around in his front garden when he was keeping an aye on what the builders were doing a few years ago and now he has a dog he's always out there! We look through the bedroom windows for him before we set off and if we see him down the close on his way home when we come home ourselves we scurry inside before he gets to the bottom where we are. lol.
I wonder how Mandy is doing with the jigsaw?
OH has gone for a lie down as his arms are achey and he has buzzing in his ears.
Better do a bit more drawing now. It's gone really chilly here so I think there will be a frost tonight.

I’m not surprised you had a bad night Ann if shopping and delivery was on your mind. I’m glad you got it sorted out ; perhaps you’ll sleep tonight. I don’t think my OH understands how much time and effort goes into feeding us now. You can’t do anything on a whim or just pop to the shop if you run out of anything.
My Sainsbury delivery came late afternoon and I was not very pleased with it so I’ll be sending an email in the morning. Quite a lot of the stuff had a Use By date of only a day or two ahead so I had to freeze some bits that would normally go in the fridge. I ordered just 2 loose Granny Smith apples for OH and one of them had a chunk dug out of it and was going bad and a bag of carrots and a bag of radishes were both”best before” today. With the best will in the world I don't think we can munch our way through a kilo of carrots and about 20 radishes this evening! In fact the carrots will be fine for a while in the fridge but they shouldn’t have been put in the order. Moan over.
AnnG I saw on another thread that poor T has tested positive again. What is going on here? You must be at your wits end but keep your chin up and stay strong. <3
It is all food today. OH has just brought in a sandwich and a piece of cake for us so I’m going to eat that now and then relax for the evening.

Vera we are not too worried as the doc warned us it could happen more than one but he said he was not infectious I think it is just something stays in the body.. They have mentioned him going back to Stroud but no movement on that yet.
Sounds like both you and Ann have had problems with the on line shop. Such a nuisance as if it was not tiring enough.those dates are not good are they. I bet they hope you won’t notice.
Ann glad that you managed to find a slot.

Whats this T has corvid again? how can that happen? they should be being more careful. Anng i do so feel for you and not being able to see him too. I meant to ask what the present was that he managed to get you?
Funny old day here. oh thought it was Thursday and the rubbish goes out then and we put it out the night before so he was working himself up to get it out and i told him it was Tuesday. he would'nt believe me and made me show him on the pc. So he will have to do it tommorow now.
He has been so good over the last few days doing all the cooking and feeding the chickens for me. I just wish this arm would get better quickly as i feel so useless.

Hopefully it will get better with rest but if it doesn't you should still maybe speak to your GP Mel.
If you read my reply to Vera below Mel You will see that it does happen after someone has Covid they can test positive again because of traces of it left in the body, the doctor explained that. He also said he would not still be infectious. But who knows with thsi weird disease.

No Mel didn't sleep that well, went to sleep ok but woke at 0330. Got up around 0415 for a walk around to see if it would send me back to sleep, overactive brain I think, dozed on and off so don't feel too bad this morning. Just waiting to hear if they have decided to send OH back to Stroud, or if his bed has been taken, so much activity around these hospitals with the high number of Covid patients in Gloucester.
Sun is shing so it looks lovely out there it is 2 degrees though so very cold.

Morning AnnG, Mel and all
I noticed your early posts as well AnnG. Will you be able to get a bit of rest during the day?
I got up at 3 am because I couldn’t sleep and it seemed so bright that I thought an outside light had been left on but it was moonlight. It was such a clear night and there was a full moon shining right on our garden, lots of stars and what I assume was Venus as it was big and bright and low in the sky. It was beautiful. A good photographer or painter could have made a lovely picture of the scene.
This morning was very cold and frosty. At the moment it is sunny but the temperature is only 1 degree.
Sainsbury’s seems to have got in a right muddle. Now they have refunded me for goods that I didn’t return. I am going to complain about the dates on some of my products so I will be honest and tell them about the refund at the same time.
The only bird attack here Mel is from the starlings who have eaten all the mealworms I put out, so the robin who has his in the ground feeder and the blackbirds and the thrush who have theirs in a dish on a table are going to have to go without. Does Sandra still watch the birds Gill?
I’m going to make a coffee and then phone my neighbour so I can be friendly and chat with her without having contact with her. Then I must get the soup maker going. I’ve got some leeks to use up so it’ll be leek and potato soup for lunch for the next couple of days. Nice and warming :-)
