Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Dec 2020 14:25

I have somehow wqrenched my left arm and I* can't lift it up without it hurting. It dos'nt help with this new keyboard as its has a big bit at the bottom and my left hand dos'nt reach the keys properly.

Annx Report 27 Dec 2020 15:29

Afternoon All,

Boy wasn't it windy and rainy last night! Dry now though and still a little sun.I managed to sleep really well though

I wonder what has happened to your arm Mel? Maybe you twisted it somehow lifting pans the last few days. I hope it soon settles down. It might be worth trying a book under the back of the keyboard to create a slope and see if that helps.

It sounds like you enjoyed your Christmas outing Frank.

I wonder when your OH will be back at Stroud AnnG and when they will let your daughter know. I bet she had a bit of a panic the hospital waking her at that time! I hope the rain that came in the conservatory has all drained now. It happens with a friend's conservatory when the wind is in the right direction.

We had a strange combination for lunch today but it was what we fancied..........poached eggs on toast followed by Christmas pud for OH and sticky toffee pud for me! :-)

I see your Turkey remains have bit the dust now Mandy! I used to slice some and freeze it when it was cooked to have on sandwiches despite OH protesting. His eyes are bigger than his tum when it comes to food and there would still be some left to throw away.

There is no sign of my next Asda order yet so I hope it will go up in the next few days or I shall be scrambling for a slot.

Not sure whether to paint or start beading now? The jigsaw hasn't been started yet either and OH has just suggested our Christmas Scrabble match later.

We had no damage from the storm last night but Em has just emailed me to ask if a compost bin that blew into hers last night was mine. She sent me a picture fo it! We had hailstones this morning and then the suns came out again but now it has disappeared and its getting dark and raining.

Our turkey is still in the fridge and there's still half of it untouched. I must admit it was better cold.

Good morning all. We have a light dusting of snow which will probably go soon, nothing on the road. Didn't have a very good night last night, kept waking up and couldn't then get back to sleep so too much time to think then. These long holidays with all the restrictions so we can't go or do much are not good. great in summer but not in winter.

I think they have a bit more snow in The Forest of Dean and probably over the Cotswolds too.

Morning AnnG ,morning all,

No snow here but a very sharp frost so everywhere was white ,the sun's up now and melting the frost away.

Your so right AnnG in the summer we had the garden to keep us busy but now it's to cold to venture out for long,we have quite a few bulbs poking through now and there a few roses still blooming .

I've put some bedding in the machine and now going to have a hoover round then I must find some crafting of some sort to do ,I might get the cross stitch out I haven't touch that for quire a few months I can't even remember what I was stitching.

Hope T had a comfortable night and you hear from the hospital today as to how he is doing .

Mel hope your arm feels a little better today, was the compost bin yours .

Morning Anng and all,

Dull dreary and windy here this morning.

MY arm is no better so i may not be on here much today. I can't ;ift it at all and even if i do it hurts like hell.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 28 Dec 2020 10:46

Mandy yes, I ought to start back on making cards but but have the attention span of a nat at the moment. It is sleeting here and extremely wet under foot, the snow is melting and it is 1 degree out there.

Mel that sounds like the pain I had in my arm after I over reached with it back in March, it is only in the past month that it has eased, still there if I overdo it but if I don't do too much it is ok, mine was my right arm though. have you got any Voltarol or whatever you can use without a reaction? Otherwise Nurofen or similar is best, paracetamol doesn't touch it if it is a muscle problem

Frank Report 28 Dec 2020 10:51

Good morning fair maidens,

Almost a FROST HERE very cold and overcast. Not going anywhere today, so it will be my books and bit of Tele.

Spoke to Harvey this morning, they are in total LOCKDOWN. but are well stocked up. He has picked up Julia's cold, so feeling a bit down.

Ros went onto the patio yesterday and noticed a tree in the flower bed, has been blown over. She tried to move it, and it broke in two. That now sits on the Patio, until someone with a wood burner comes and takes it away. I think Ros will ring Martine. Brian her oh has a van, he can put it it It's not very large, so should be easy to move.

Nothing to report from this end, so I am off to get shaved and showered, and get dressed. (still in my dressing gown)

Take care of you and yours. xxxx

SuffolkVera Report 28 Dec 2020 12:46

Afternoon everyone

Weatherwise it’s been very strange here. Last night the temperature was supposed to drop to -4 and we expected to wake up to a heavy frost, if not snow. In fact it was so warm that we threw a cover off the bed and when we got up at 7.30 there was no frost and it was just grey and wet as usual. Then it got foggy but quickly cleared and now the sun is out. Talk about 4 seasons in one day!

Good to see that you are doing OK at the moment Frank. Shame about your little tree.

Sorry that your arm is so painful Mel. I hope it recovers quickly. We don’t realise how much we use bits of our body till they are out of action. My foot seems to be getting better at last. It still gives me some pain and I only have one pair of shoes that I can comfortably wear but I managed to go for a walk yesterday. It wasn’t far but at least I got beyond the postbox at the bottom of the road.

I hope T is comfortable and being well cared for AnnG . Today is a bank holiday isn’t it so you might not get much communication from the hospital today but I hope they keep in close touch with your daughter. As you can’t go and see him you need that communication. Sending you a gentle (((hug))).

I’ve got a Sainsbury’s delivery tomorrow and I have just thought of a couple more things to add to it so I’d better do it before I forget.

Take care everyone.

Annx Report 28 Dec 2020 13:02

Morning All,

No frost here, but I did sleep till 9.00am so maybe it had melted by then. Yes we were saying much the same thing the other day AnnG. It was so much better in the summer when we could walk around our garden and see what was flowering and sit out there watching the birds. It is much more restrictive being indoors all the time. I must get stuck in and do more sorting of cupboards soon. I looked at the butter curler the other day and thought I will probably never use or need it ever again so why am I keeping it!

We are having a jacket potato with fish and a veg assortment today for lunch followed by Viennetta with cream.

Oh Mel you've done a nasty wrench or twist somehow with your arm. Is it the lower arm or down from your shoulder? Unfortunately we can't have ibuprofen with our beta blocker. You could try your heat pad next to it or one of the heat patches if you have one. It sounds like you will need to rest it too, not that there's any choice with the pain being so bad. I hope it starts improving soon.

Some cross stitch sounds a good idea Mandy. I think I have sorted out what to paint and what size will fit a frame so I might sketch out a picture after lunch.

It's a shame the tree blew over Frank, but it's lucky you have someone who can take it away for you. What book are you reading now?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Dec 2020 14:12

ann i have just taken an ibuprofen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 28 Dec 2020 14:34

Daughter managed to get through to the AMU where she was told he had been transferred yesterday (thanks for telling us) to a ward. L then managed to get through to the ward, basically no change, catheter not re-fitted yet, confused, passing blood in urine and probably another infection. Consultant to see him sometime today to agree the plan, and she promised she would contact L with the report but nothing yet so not holding our breath. so more wait and see. Hope they will be able to make him comfortable. I have my doubts about him returning to Stroud but we'll have to see.

Ann what is the subject of your next painting?

Vera, good that you can walk further now, no doubt you will soon be able to get on a different pair of shoes. Is your foot swollen?

Mel are you not supposed to take Ibrofen, I am not but very occasionally I have taken one or two without a problem.

Frank, that was a pity about the tree. Ros will now have to buy something to replace it. I am pleased that you had a good Christmas.

Annx

Annx Report 28 Dec 2020 15:12

Taking them once shouldn't hurt Mel. As far as I can remember they stop beta blockers working so well, but you will have taken your beta blocker a few hours ago so it should have already had some effect before you took the ibuprofen. At the worst I expect it could be like forgetting a beta blocker tablet. Don't take anymore though!

I'm glad your foot is getting better Vera. These things take a long time don't they! When I had plantar fasciitis I bought some gel heel inserts for my shoes and they helped a lot. It's good you can walk a bit further now. My limit is the post box at the end of the close too, but I said to OH that I need to go twice as far to the M1 bridge next! I've restarted with 100 pedals a day on my exercise bike, but have to be careful not to hurt my knees or the cook will be out of action for a while! :-S

At last they have let your daughter know where T is AnnG. I feel so sorry for him as it will mean more new faces I expect. I hope they soon let you know what the plan will be and that they are keeping him comfortable..

I am hoping with a little artistic licence to see if I can do a painting of an old house I like, but in a snowy, village setting! It is a lodge at the entrance to Desford Hall about 3 miles from here. It came up for sale a little while after I split up from my first husband and I could afford to buy it, but maybe not have paid for any updating it needed so resisted temptation! I think it was a bit soon to be making big changes at that point anyway, but I always think to myself that I could be living there when I drive past it! It had a very small garden which put me off a little, but which would be a big plus now whereas the stairs wouldn't! lol. Anyway I shall have a go!

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 28 Dec 2020 17:01

Mel, you’ll be fine. What the NHS site says about taking Ibuprofen with beta blockers is

Non-steroidal, anti inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen may increase your blood pressure so they are best kept to a minimum

Somewhere else it says that if you need to take Ibuprofen regularly or frequently your doctor can adjust the dosage of the beta blockers, so you won’t come to much harm by taking one or two. I’m never sure how I stand because I have beta blockers, not for high blood pressure or angina but as a preventative for migraine. Be careful of things like Voltarol as that’s based on Diclofenic which is also an NSAID.

I’m glad your daughter managed to speak to the hospital AnnG. It’s still very unsettling for T (and you) but fingers crossed the consultant can sort out some sort of care plan for him.

Ann, the problem with my shoes is pressure on the top of the foot. Loafer styles or “court” shoe types press too hard on the toes and the bones of the arch. Trainers or lace ups are OK because I don’t have to tie the laces too snugly. As we’re not going out much I haven’t tried my boots yet but I hope I will be able to get them on OK. I’m looking forward to seeing your picture of the old lodge when it’s done

Annx

Annx Report 28 Dec 2020 18:38

So it sounds right then that they stop the beta blocker working properly and let your BP increase. That's interesting Vera as I don't take them for high blood pressure either. I was prescribed them when I woke up with my heart racing (after other brief episodes) which may have caused a panic attack or vice versa. They could find nothing wrong but my heart rate hadn't gone down by midday the next day so they prescribed the beta blocker. The migraine doctor at the hospital a few years ago suggested I may not need beta blockers anymore, but the whole experience was so frightening I'm reluctant to reduce/come off them unless my BP is that low I start to often feel faint. My BP is usually around 100/55 and pulse around 60 so quite low. Before I had any problem, my heart rate was always in the 80s.

I see what you mean about your foot pain now. Of course it was the metatarsal wasn't it and not your heel that was causing the pain. It sounds like your boots might be ok.

We have drawn equal in our scrabble games now!

Slept all afternoon. don't think the tablet helped with the pain as i still have and its bad. thanks for all the advice girls. The other thing is i can't make a fist with my left hand and the fingers are swollen and the back of the hand a bit. fingers feel all tight.

I sha'nt be taking anymore. having to type with one hand so its taking me ages.

Poor T i do feel for both of you and it must be so confusing to him to be taken from pillar to post all the time. Sending you a gentle (hug).

Annx Report 28 Dec 2020 21:44

You poor thing Mel. It doesn't sound right. I wonder if you've sprained it somehow. The swelling must be making the fingers feel tight. As AnnG says phone the doc if it's no better tomorrow. I hope you get some sleep tonight.

Frank Report 28 Dec 2020 21:45

Had got fed up with T.V. so went to bed 9.00 pm, couldn't settle so got up. The bungalow feels so warm, when I mentioned it to Ros, she said "YOU MUST BE JOKING" So I expect it's me. I am sitting here in my underpants, and feel like a furness.

I treated us to a takeaway this evening. (CHINESE) All very nice, apart from the spare ribs. I rang to complain, and the will give me the next lot FOC. Ros said I shouldn't complain, but if you don't, they don't know.

Madam is at hospital in the morning at 10.20 am. She is picking Carolyn up, she will go with her, then they will find somewhere to look around before going Tesco's and then home.I will get back into my book which I haven't read since before Christmas. It's a novel by Graham Greyson. or Grenson. I have been reading it for two/three weeks now. It's about a young boy who shot his Mothers boyfriend, who he believed Murdered his mum.

Martine hasn't called to pick up the tree, which isn't that big, and in three pieces, ready to go in either her boot, to her oh's van.

For the first time, that I can remember, I have run out of beer. Ros will get some more tomorrow.

Well girls, I think I will try to get back to bed and get to sleep, before madam comes and disturbs me later. Sleep tight. xxxx
