Annx Report 2 Jun 2020 17:54

Evening All,

So sorry the treatment hasn't worked Jane and I hope the new chemo drug will be better. Hair will always grow back. Just keep reading the thread even if you don't feel up to posting. <3

AnnG I think they are all the same, these men! I have to remind mine to leave the internal doors open when we go out so he can go straight in and wash his hands without touching them after we go to the pharmacy or for a little drive now.

Well done getting the dreaded wiping done before lunch Mel. I must start sorting my next order out before the weekend.

I got an email today and it looks like the local paper may be printing some of my photos. :-) I belong to a FB photo sharing site they run.

I slept well again but was rudely awakened by a skip being delivered next door at 7.20am!!! The neighbour clearly didn't expect it that early either as he appeared in his dressing gown with his now long hair looking like he'd come through a hedge backwards. Then a plumber turned up across the road and then a new gate was being fitted at the asian house at the bottom of the close. As soon as our neighbour started filling the skip they were their and emptying stuff to carry off to their own house. We took the shredded paper this morning and left it at the gate and when we got home OH said he thought a gazebo was being built on the driveway at the end house where the asian couple live. He said they had been taking their old garden furniture from next door so I wonder if it is for the driveway too so we can be watched coming and going in all weathers. :-0

I did another virtual session at lunchtime about making things with clay. I quite fancy it, but as I said to OH we would need another shed for all the equipment needed!!

Gillx Report 2 Jun 2020 18:11

7.20am Ann, that's a bit early for a skip to be delivered and they're not the quietest of things to drop into place and then all the other jobs going on, I guess you never got back to sleep. Hope you have a better nights sleep tonight.

That's the problem with new crafts, all the things you need to buy, just to get started, but if it's something you fancy doing and are going to do quite a lot it might be a good investment. Have you thought of doing a craft fayre like Mel? I used to do them back in the 90's with my cakes and they are great fun, plus you can make quite a bit of money.

If you become a regular like I did you end up with the same people coming to your stall each time, you also get to know what sells and what doesn't, so you know what to take each time.
I can't do food anymore as all the rules have changed, but back then I loved it even though it was hard work and long hours making everything. It was nice to chat to the other regulars that went to.

Well done on the local paper possibly printing some of your photo's, you take such lovely ones. You'll have to let us know what they print, if they do it.

Evening all,

Oh dear Jane i'm so so sorry to hear this news ,i hope this new chemo drug will work better for you .
You don't have to post we all understand ,just look in when you feel like it even if you only say Hi love and hugs to you all <3 <3 <3

Well today we had son DIL and the two little ones here ,not for long as son just came for a ladder so he could put a couple of CCTV cameras up at his house ,some time over the week end some one had tried to get in his back gate and one or two neighbours had some one in their gardens , i suppose now there's less shops open to steal from so they are having a look in peoples gardens to see what they can take .

I had to throw my lettuce plants out they were covered in white fly and ants !!
So now i have new pots to put some new mixed lettuce seed in and also i've got Spring onions and Radish to plant .

AnnG they are pretty cards you've been making and the poppy is lovely too.

Annx Report 2 Jun 2020 19:52

I forgot to thank you AnnG and say that I have the painting progs recorded. I have watched them before and it is the gentle, late Bob Ross doing his mountain scenes which are very good. I love your cards you have made and the free poppy is a beauty!

Mandy I have read that car theft is up too. I hadn't thought with the shops being shut that they would turn to houses. It's a good idea for your son to get security lights in place. What a shame about your lettuce! You will be starting again like me. :-) I contacted the firm I ordered mine from yesterday and they have refunded my money and are sending 2 more packets which is really good service! I checked the tracker to see what had happened with the Wii remote I ordered and it showed it had been cancelled a week ago (but not by me!). Anyway they are going to refund me so I will send off for one elsewhere once I have the refund.

I do hope your OH gets this job Gill. It would take a weight off both of your minds. It's good he is getting at least a few shifts in the meantime as every little helps. I do miss your reports about Sandra and I'm sure you must miss her too. She was such a big help to you as well bless her. No I've never done a craft fayre but 2 friends do them, but it's a been a bit hit and miss the last year or two selling things which has put me off a bit.

An early night again for us I think. If it isn't raining in the morning I might plant out the last few plants and get OH to fill the 2 pots he found for me with compost. Then I can transplant more of the seedling Snapdragons.

Awe Jane I am so sorry it has not worked you must feel very down and disillusioned. Although you don’t feel it at the moment, you are strong and have a good support backing so I know you will continue the new treatment and hopefully this one will work. Ok you will lose your hair, that is hard but it will grow back. We understand you holding off from coming on here, maybe look in and keep an eye on us and you might be glad to have a rant occasionally we are always here for you. And if you don’t want to ‘go public’ you can always pm any of us for a chat. I hope you stocked up on Baileys! <3 <3

Ann did you have a look at that art programme? I have just watched it, he is very good, couldn’t believe how easy he made it look. My only problem was no sub titles.
Ooh that was a rude awakening. Lots going on in your road today. Do you mean the Asian people take things out of skips?

Gill that is good your OH has some shifts, it is a start anyway. And good all the stuff has gone to the tip.
Oh yes my OH has perfected the art of telling me your do it so much better than me’,
However he did cook us a very nice curry tonight from the left over chicken. His second claim to fame.

Sorry I missed you Mandy and Annx.
Mandy very useful to have cameras, we have four round the house.
Glad you liked the cards and yes the poppy is lovely.

Ann I had not seen your answer re the painting. I have not seen any of his before, I had not realised he had died, what a loss of that talent.

SuffolkVera Report 2 Jun 2020 21:33

Good evening

It’s been another beautiful day here but is supposed to get a lot cooler with possible rain showers tomorrow. I hope the rain holds off and it stays warm enough to sit outside as our friends are supposed to be visiting for a catch-up. We’re all looking forward to it but they won’t come if the weather isn’t good enough as we are supposed to stay outside.

AnnG, the poppy photo and the cards are lovely. I can’t believe Inara is coming up 4. It only seems a year or so ago you were announcing her birth. Time really flies as you get older doesn’t it? Our youngest granddaughter is 14 today. I think I blinked and missed her growing up. I laughed at T. saying “you do it better than me” as it sounds just like my OH. Every so often I have a moan at always being the one to buy, wrap and post family presents, to book holidays and travel insurance etc. and to generally be the organiser of everything and his response is always “you’re better at it than me” and I usually tell him it’s because he doesn’t get enough practice. I’m beginning to feel like a parrot with the number of times I say “Wash your hands”. Men!! Can’t live with them, can’t live without them lol.

You sound as though you have been busy in your garden again Gill. I bet it looks a picture. It’s good that your OH is getting a few shifts, every little helps as they say, but I hope a definite, permanent job comes up for him soon.

Your son will probably feel a bit more secure with cameras up Mandy, particularly with children in the house. It’s not pleasant to think that someone has been trying to break in. I don’t think anyone in our little Close has cameras but we all have security lights in different positions round the house. The trouble is that they can be set off by an animal or even a strong wind which is a bit of a pain.

I don’t think I would have been too happy to be woken up by a noisy, clanking skip Ann and your neighbours at the bottom sound a bit odd. It’ll be great if some of your photos get printed in the paper but they are so good that they ought to be seen by a wider audience.

We had our family quiz on Zoom on Sunday and one of our granddaughters, the one who is 14 today, had set it and was quizmaster and it was a really good quiz. We didn’t win but didn’t come bottom either. However in a mad moment I agreed to do next Sunday’s. Setting the quiz is fine, I’ve done loads for clubs we belong to, but I’ve got to work out how to host a meeting on Zoom. I know I can register and set it up for free but you only get 40 minutes and we would want longer than that. I don’t want to pay a monthly sub just so I can host one quiz. I shall have to talk to someone who has done it.

Yesterday I went a bit mad on housework. Did all the normal washing, including everything stripped from 2 king-size beds and changed the duvets on them from medium to light ones as it has been so warm at night. I also did lots of those jobs I’ve been meaning to do for ages and OH, who is normally fairly good at helping, spent the day on the computer and didn’t help at all. That annoyed me so by the time of our evening meal I had a real migraine coming so I couldn’t eat. I went to bed very early and took one of my “proper migraine” tablets rather than my painkillers. These do help the migraine but I hate the side effects. I think they work by dilating the blood vessels but I always feel as though I’ve gone 10 rounds with Henry Cooper, my head feels so bruised and battered. They also give you such a dry mouth that it’s as though someone has stuffed the sweepings from the stable floor into your mouth. BUT they do often get rid of the migraine.

This morning I was a lot better so I got all the ironing done and spent the afternoon gardening so I feel I’ve got a bit of my mojo back now.

I can’t believe that just a few short weeks ago I was sitting up at midnight desperate to book delivery slots and now I’ve got them coming out of my ears. I have a delivery from Iceland tomorrow morning and then Tesco on 9th and 21st June. It looks as though Tesco have upped their 80 item limit to 85.

Oh, and I have a hair appointment. My hairdresser is opening on 6th July and I have the first appointment at 8.45 am. The staff have all done the various hygiene courses and there will only be two customers in at a time, in two separate rooms. If OH picks me up, as he often does, he will not be allowed on the premises to wait. I also need to have a mask and on the ones we have the elastic goes round the back of the head so I shall have to make myself one where the elastic loops over the ears as she can work round that.

I must stop or I shall go on typing for ever. Wind me up and I just go lol. I must tell you this though. My neighbours – the ones who are “shielding” but have had their fence replaced, a new lavatory seat fitted and their oven cleaned – now have a decorator there! He’s been there for 2 days so far. They are taking advantage of the supermarket priority slots given to the clinically vulnerable but acting almost as normal. They are normally nice, intelligent people so what is it about shielding that they don’t understand? It beggars belief. And with that I really will say Goodnight.

Good morning all

<3 <3 <3 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY FRANK AND ROS <3 <3 <3

Take is easy, rest and relax both of you and have a lovely day.

Grey and overcast here. I hope the weather is good enough for my friends to still come and sit in the garden. Without going into details, as we were asked to keep things to ourselves, we had another bit of bad news last night and could do with a bit of chit-chat to cheer us up.

My Iceland order was due between 8 and 10 am and they say they send a text half an hour in advance. I haven’t had a text and it arrived at 7.30! Good job we were up and dressed. OH carried it in and put it on the kitchen floor so I had better go and start wiping. It’s only a small order to tide me over between Tesco deliveries so it shouldn’t take long.

Have a wonderful day.

Morning Vera and all,

Overcast here this morning too Vera grey skies and we have had sixpence worth of rain in the night. Our road is wet and the alchemilla mollis has all droplets on the leaves like little diamonds.

When I looked out the bedroom window this morning there were 5 Jackdaws, Phil Pheasent and his wife on the chicken run fence, mummy rabbit and two baby rabbits, one washing the others head, two Magpies at the end of the back field behind the chicken run and a blackbird.

Aawe Mel seeing the babies I am sure even you didn't want to run for the gun!

Latish start this morning although not really! OH apparently looked at the clock 08.15 so got up and put the kettle on for tea (we keep a tray in the bedroom to save carrying it upstairs half awake). then looked at his watch Oops 0620, switched off kettle got back into bed but left the curtains open which confused me when I woke at 0800 and he was sound asleep beside me. Anyway I made tea and by the time we stripped the bed for washing bedding and had showers look at the tine 0940!! Better go and have breakfast.

very grey out there, still warm indoors 13 degrees outside apparently but no rain to speak of.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY FRANK AND ROS Havr a lovely day <3 <3 <3 <3

Vera, yes doesn't seem possible she will be four and this is the first birthday we have not been up there with her.
I am sorry you have had bad news and do hope your friends are able to join you for a chat to cheer you up later. (Umbrellas ready maybe?)

Frank Report 3 Jun 2020 13:29

Good afternoon to all you lovely people. THANK YOU for your kind wishes. I am waiting for the flowers I ordered to arrive. I have tracked them to the local Post Office distribution centre, so just waining for the POSTMAN in his van.

As we are unable to go out for a meal tonight. I have got TWO RIB EYE STEAKS OUT. Done Mushrooms, Onions. Chips, made the peppered sauce, Ros will make Coleslaw later and a bit of Salad.

Pam and Dennis have given us an unusual present. It's A VERY LARGE TEA CUP AND SAUCER, for a plant to go in. It has a drainage hole in the bottom of the cup. I've never seen one before. !! Simon left us a card and Garden Voucher. So Ros will buy something for the garden. We haven't heard from either Harvey or Conrad which seems strange.

Poor you Jane, I know exactly what you must be going through, having been through all this with my Dad, and Ros's MUM AND DAD. My thoughts and prayers are with you. xxxx.

Good news about your OH Gill. Lets hope he gets taken back permanently.

Ros has left messages with both her Hairdresser and Nail girl, asking for the earliest appointment they will have when they re-open. After treating her hair agin yesterday, it has gone a much lighter GINGER. So hopes it won't be long before she gets it done.

I am pleased to see you are all able to get to the shops, or getting delivery slots. I have started a shopping list, and will place it with Tesco before the weekend.

What a great idea Mandy. These Bl@@dy TEA LEEFS are everywhere. We have reports of garden sheds being broken into in the village, and reports of STRANGE WHITE VANS being driven round to see what's being left on doorsteps,(That's what I think) as it has been reported of things going missing.

Take care and STAY SAFE. xxxx

Afternoon All,

:-D <3 <3HAPPY ANNIVERSARY FRANK AND ROS <3 <3 :-D I hope the flowers arrived and were nice! Have a nice rest today.

Oh I love baby bunnies Mel, they are so cute as babies with their short little ears.

The workmen at the Asian house were still hammering and banging after 9.00pm last night....so much for wanting an early night. They appear to be building some kind of slatted enclosure but it isn't really clear yet. This morning an electrician arrived at 8.00am across the road and there were decorators at the top of the close when we went out later. The skip next door is now full! We decided to go to one of the 'out in the sticks' garden centres that we knew already had the entrance and exits at opposite ends of their building. They were all set up for big queues but no-one was queuing so they let us avoid the long walk and go straight to the door. The girl there disinfected a trolley for us which was good. I found the geraniums I wanted and we got some feed for the tomatoes and pots. Disappointingly one member of staff was blocking our way because she was nattering to other staff further down and after we had waited a few minutes OH had to ask her to move from the narrow gangway to give us enough space to pass as other people were catching up behind us. I said to OH it wasn't relaxing shopping having to keep an eye on other people and where they were going. but we got what we wanted and didn't have to use chip and pin with the amount we got so that was good. We were covered in sanitiser so went for a little detour home past High Cross which is reputed by some to be the centre of England and enjoyed the great views from there.

We had poached eggs on toast earlier and are having scampi with some savoury wedges I am doing soon, also some roast peppers and courgettes.

I have been refunded the money for the Wi remote that didn't turn up so have ordered another now that should be here next week.

Vera I have emailed you about hosting a Zoom Meeting! I am sorry you have had bad news and hope you get to have a chat with your friends. We get spiders and their webs triggering our security light at the front too and yes the local moggies often get me up in the middle of the night when the light comes on unexpectedly. Crikey you did go a bit mad on the housework yesterday! It could do with someone going mad on it here and know it won't be OH. :-S

I'd better go and get these potato wedges in the oven. I haven't done them with semolina on them before so it should be interesting to see how they turn out. :-)

AnninGlos Report 3 Jun 2020 14:41

gosh Vera that was a lot of housework. We changed the beds this morning and washed the bedding but that is all I have really done today. spent a lot of time finishing my book.
Goodness that was an early Iceland delivery. We would not have been awake. Nice to get the order early but they really should stick to their time.

Annx not good that you had to ask a member of staff to move, we had to avoid a couple yesterday but they were not chatting just setting up a sale area, it was still a bit awkwad though. that and trying to sort out an elderly lady who couldn't work out the one way system in the store.

Frank, your meal for tonight sounds nice. I hope the flowers have arrived and Ros is pleased. Our post here is awful I am stillw aiting for something daughter posted to us last tuesday. And the post has been today.

I hope Vera was able to have her friends in and sit in the garden chatting. It will be a nice change for them both to have visitors.

Anng you'r not the only one who has'nt done much today. I just can't seem to get going. All I have done is one bit of washing and forgotten to put it out and fed the chickens and made lunch and eaten it. I hav'nt even washed up the lunch plates yet.

I hope Ros's flowers arrived and that fthey are having a nice day together even if the weathers a bit dull.

I could just throw myself onthe bed now and go to sleep but I know if I do that I shall sleep too long and be cross with myself for wasting the rest of the day so I think I will wash up and do some ironing.

Annx Report 3 Jun 2020 18:01

Well, despite us getting up early to be at the garden centre for opening time, we haven't done much today either so I'm glad it isn't just us. By the time we had our late lunch and did a crossword and word wheel and slumped in the conservatory chairs and chatted, it was time for the daily update! It started with fine rain here but has rained more steadily since and will be doing the garden good as it badly needs it. It will be softening the soil on the other island bed with my lookout post so that I can get on with raising the height of the steps for the lookout once it stops! There's a dwarf Hebe planted there that is no longer dwarf anymore and needs a haircut so that will get done once I can start on the garden again. I need to move some of the alpines and want to build the soil up once the steps are done and are higher. I can't believe how fast the cues and tomatoes have grown in the recent hot weather, but I have had to put some slug bait down round the cues in the greenhouse as I spotted a silvery trail across one of the leaves.

I forgot to say OH heard a bit of a thud on the bedroom floor last night as he took his jumper off and thought it was a twig that had got caught on his jumper. No......it was an enormous spider that scuttled where he couldn't reach it behind a bookcase! Every night now I shall be wondering where it is and scanning the ceiling.

SuffolkVera Report 3 Jun 2020 18:07

We haven’t had any rain here yet though it’s come over dark a few times, then brightened up again. The weather forecast said the rain would be hit or miss in this area and I think we’ve been missed. It did get quite chilly this afternoon but our friends came and we sat outside with jumpers on and had a good chat and a laugh. I think it perked us all up.

I hope the flowers for Ros arrived safely and she was pleased with them Frank. Your meal tonight sounds good. We had one of those giant cup and saucer plant holders years ago. I had a lovely small leaved trailing plant in mine but eventually the cup cracked and I had to dump it. I still use the great big saucer as a sort of bird feeder. I put it on a garden table with bits of cake or fat or fruit in it and the blackbirds and thrush in particular perch on the edge and feed from it. They love it if I put some mealworms on it.

I don’t seem to have done much today either Mel and AnnG. OH hoovered through for me while I wiped and put away my delivery and had a shower but I can’t think what I did with the rest of the morning. I was just busy doing nothing.

There seems to be a lot of work going on in your Close Ann and that’s really inconsiderate of your neighbours to be hammering away so late in the evening. You shouldn’t have needed to ask a shop assistant to give you room to pass, they must have had distancing hammered into them by now. When OH was out for his early morning walk he was on a narrow pavement with someone coming towards him. He could see this chap wasn’t going to move so OH stepped into the road. As they passed the chap said to him “You don’t have to give me space. I’ve had Covid” . Well, OH hasn’t and will continue to give people a bit of space.

OH has had a couple of beers this afternoon and some cake and now he’s drinking a CoT but he’ll still be looking for his dinner in an hour or so and I haven’t prepared anything yet. I did take some gammon out of the freezer this morning but that’s as far as I got so I’d better shift myself and get some veg sorted.
