Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 May 2020 23:19

The wiping took ages and I got fed up with it half way through. I did it all in the end but hav'nt done all the carrier bags yet they are in one of our plastic boxes and I will do them tomorrow.

I had a nothing day today and did'nt do anything other than pick up a barrow loads of dead sticks from the old ash tree which were all ove rthe orchard and where the snowdrops grow. I was wondering if that why I did'nt seem to have so many flowers on them this year.

Your face to face consultation must be better than one of the phone Jane and I do hope you feel better with it that way. It is so unpersonal over the phone.

Ann you will have to get yourself a smaller watering can so he can't put too much water in it for you. Whenever I want the hose to water with oh has always moved it somewhere and I have to follow the pipe to see where it ends which is usually completely the other way to where I need it and its a very long and heavy one to lug right across the front of the bungalow. I do take cans down to the shed to water the things I have in there.

Vera its good the cake was a nice surprize for oh and that it turned out well today when it mattered for his birthday. Sounds like it went down a treat.Hope you sleep better tonight. Have you tried eating a thiick lettuce sandwich or just some lettuce on its own. That usually makes you sleep. I can remember as a child being given cos lettuce leaves to eat sprinkled in sugar but it was'nt at home it may have been att Aunty Jean's or Aunty Joan's. Aunty Joan used to make lovely spread cheese sandwiches with chopped walnuts in.

Now that reminds me of something I hav'nt seen in the shops for years. I used to buy a cheese with walnuts all around the edge. Does anyone else remember those??

Well its late now and it was so nice to hear from our Jane so I am saying night night see you all in the morning and including Frank I hope.

Morning all,

It promises to be another gorgeous day down here in Devon and we have that forget me knot blue sky again with just the wispiest of wispy cloud.

Asda sent no milk yesterday so I have to go up the shop today for oh's rolls which he did'nt have on Saturday and some milk. Oh likes a mug of milk in the night sometimes so I shall have to get 8 pints to get us through. What a thing to be unailable though. I would be really stuck if we did'nt have the shop up the road and as I only drink milk and water and orange juice I think its a bit bad on there part. We were told by one of the drivers that the people who pick the grocery orders start at 2am and finish at 6am I think oh said. He was talking to one of the drivers last week but you would think they would be out of milk completely would you?

Slept like a log again last night and hope you all had a better night than the night before.

SuffolkVera Report 27 May 2020 10:15

Morning Mel, AnnG and all

It looks as though it is going to be another good day. The sky is a sort of milky pale blue but the sun is trying to shine through.

What a pain having no milk in your order Mel. Good job you have a local shop. I hope your Tesco order is complete Ann. My turn wiping down tomorrow when I have a Tesco delivery.

I’m going to tackle the ironing now before it gets too hot.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 May 2020 12:10

Its blimmin hot here its reading 42.7 C on our weather thing and 20.9 on the inside.

I have been to the shop and just as I drove to the crossrads a Mole Valley van came towards me. I waited and he drove into ours so no phone call to say it was coming today as promised but it has all arrived. Three bags of horse manure compost, three bags of J innes 100 litres of j Innes multi purpose latex gloves for oh and chicken corn and pellets. Paid my sub too so thats the most I have spent for a long time, £65 odd.

Ha ha done my wiping down good luck with yours and I hope it dos'nt take too long to do.

A few puffy white clouds like cotton wool in the sky now but still wall to wall sunshine.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 27 May 2020 13:14

I think your weather thingy must have sun shining direct on it. 42.7 is near enough 109 deg Fahrenheit :-S. That would be an all time record for the UK :-D. The sun never did break through much here. It’s a fairly comfortable 21deg. but it’s overcast.

I got the ironing and a couple of other jobs done and hope to do a bit in the garden this afternoon. I’ve got a very easy meal tonight. OH is having pizza and I’ll probably have something like eggs on toast.

I’ve just had a go at OH. The post came. He picked up a birthday card, opened it, put the envelope down and immediately rubbed his eyes. I yelled at him to wash his hands but he goes into automatic pilot and forgets to think. Men :-|

Mel, I’ve just noticed the date on the first post on this thread - exactly 10 years ago.

Vera the censor is under the plastic roof outside so I think thats why it has such a high temp reading.

Sorry but it isn't 10 years today as thats when we had to start again for the third time.

eg.

This thread was started on 25th April 2008. Has been scrubbed out twice but is still managing to carry on 2 years and one month later.

So in actual fact it has been going for twelve years and I forgot to put up its birthday on the 25th April for some reason.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 27 May 2020 13:43

12years is even more of an achievement :-D

Afternoon all,

Belated birthday wishes to your OH Vera sounds as if you both enjoyed the lovely cake .
Oh dear Colin is the same i have to be behind him when the post comes and make sure he doesn't just lay the post down on the side like he usually does .

Oh Jane i'm sorry your feeling so down ,not long until Tuesday ,it's good you have the face to face consultation it's much better to ask questions face to face than over the phone .
Have a lovely day tomorrow with your sister and BIL .

We had to pick up Max's Flea and Wormer tablets from the vets today ,i had to ring when we got there and they came out and put the bag on the table .
When i rang to order them i asked about his boaster injection for this year ,they are leaving all boasters for three months after they are due and then they will do them .
When we went to the vets they have road works and the road is shut outside the vets but you can drive into the vets but i had to drive round some metal barriers and it was at a funny angle and i caught the side of the car ,we now have some scratches down the side of the car ,Colin thinks they might just rub out with a bit of luck .

It will seem very strange when we can shop and just put it all away this wiping down seems to take for ever .

Mel fancy Asda not having milk ,i think we use about eight pints a week too as we both have a lot of cereal .

Ann i have a tiny watering can i use ,i usually half fill a big can and then fill the little one from that ,it's a devil to lift a bigger one up to water hanging baskets .
hope your side is feeling a little easier today .

Gill how did OH get on on his job hunt ? hope he soon finds some thing .

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 May 2020 15:02

Mandy if you remember rightly on my first order I asked for 4 pints of semi and they sent me two pints of goats milk!! I sent that back becasue after having my own goats and one was a maiden milker I used to use a lot of goats milk but Katies was lovely milk. The stuff you get in the shops is nothing like it.

I am now going to wsh up and then go in the garden and make some room in my shed for all this compost I had delivered.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 27 May 2020 15:08

ack again. tesco man was on time arrived 10.10 I did an hour and a half wiping this morning then another half hour thiss afternoon and there are a few bit in bags I will leave until tomorrow. Not in carier bags this time just thinner plastic ones that are good for rubbish bags. So they are out in the sun in the conservatory where they will stay for three or four days by which time I won't feel I have to disinfect about 20 bags. Very good, nothing missing, a few subs but all ok and £5 knocked off the total for price match. Next one 9 days time. Trouble is I do have trouble keeping items down to total of 80 with the slots being quite far apart,
After I had done that and we'd had coffee we drove round to the local garden centre to give the car a run and to pick up a few more plants. Got a fe reduced which is good then stopped at a small new shopping centre (only a coop and a hairdressers there so only a few cars. I used the cash machine which was very convenient. No queues and nobody around.

tired now though OH pottering with the plants we bought so I had better go and see what he is doing.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 May 2020 15:08

I have had both the window in the bedopen and the bathroom for a bit of fresh air. Someone is manure spreading and both rooms smell like dung heaps. Needless to say I have now shut both and sprayed the rooms. :-S :-S :-S

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 27 May 2020 16:52

Mel, I did a double take when I read your post. I didn't have my glasses on and read that you had the window in the bedpan open. No wonder the room smelt like a dung heap ;-)

You have to be a canny shopper with the 80 item limit don't you Ann? Things I would normally pick up loose I now buy in a pack e.g. 4 loose parsnips count as 4 items but a prepack of parsnips is only 1 item... and why would a dozen eggs in 2 six packs count as 2 items but a dozen in one box count as 1? OH likes it if I get him some beer but he has to wait till I am sure I've got all the food and cleaning stuff ordered and then see how many items I have spare. I've just completed my order for tomorrow and have got him 4 bottles which brought me to 79 items. I'm trying to persuade him to forgo the bitter and become a lager drinker as I can get a whole box of 24 cans of lager and it still only counts as 1 item. I suppose eventually things will get back to some sort of normality.

I told OH that you had all sent birthday greetings to him and he's asked me to thank you.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 May 2020 18:24

I read out your post to oh Vera he said what happens if you buy a bag of peas? I know its only counted as one item but it made me laugh.

Is that from Tesco as I don't know if I have a limit on how many items I can have from Asda.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 May 2020 18:25

Have tidied the shed so I an get all this compost in . So far there are three bags in there and 5 more to go in yet but I have come in for a cuppa.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 27 May 2020 20:22

Yes it is Tesco with the 80 items you would think they would want you to spend more money but I suppose we do as we buy larger jars etc.
Yes Vera I spend ages trying to get the best selection and I already have to sort the next list while this one is fresh so I don’t order what I already have. I already have over 70 items on the next one.
And I read Mel’s post the same as you. Vera :-D

Annx

Annx Report 27 May 2020 20:58

Evening All,

Another lovely sunny day and not too hot earlier so I got more of my rocks in place after some readjustment. I'd had enough then as the weight of these rocks leave my hands and arms all shaky after a while with gripping them.

Fancy getting no milk Mel! I think with us having just skimmed milk they are less likely to run out of that. I haven't noticed a limit on the number of items with Asda either. They limit the amount to 2 or 3 of some items but I had 177 items on my order last Sunday. I don't think 80 items is much and just means people will need more slots.

We had just started our lunch when a chap arrived next door with a chain saw and started cutting the hedge and saplings at the bottom of their garden. What a racket and then the other side a chap arrived and started putting new fence panels in, so we gave up and went inside. OH had a meeting on line soon after and had just got into it when the chainsaw started up again in the front garden this time to trim the neighbour's trees by his caravan. Not only that, the shredder close to our bungalow screamed into action next so I had to whizz round shutting windows, doors and drawing curtains to dampen the noise down, so OH could hear his meeting! Next thing, because their barbecue area had been cleared of the overhanging saplings, they decided to light it and the fumes were awful and came straight into our conservatory and lounge. It has been even worse since they moved their barbecue to our side of the garden and I felt so ill and wobbly I had to go and lie down for an hour.

That's good you got your sacks Mel and the sack barrow will have helped you move them! We don't disinfect our baskets and the thin carrier bags Asda use either. OH has gloves on and puts all the thin bags into one bag and puts the bag into one of the baskets. We don't touch them then for 5 days by which time the virus has died. The thin bags are then used as bin liners in the kitchen bin. What a good idea to get smaller watering cans! ;-) ;-) We need a couple more so I shall make sure they are SMALL! I have just the same trouble as you with the hose too, with it never seeming to be where I want to use it! I did have a short hose direct from the water butts into the back of the greenhouse that I could use direct into the tomato pots but 'you know who' managed to break the connector at the beginning of the year......to be fair it was old so not surprising.

Good luck with your wiping down tomorrow Vera! These men are all the same aren't they......just don't think what they are doing! I couldn't believe mine when he was using a squirty bottle of disinfectant to spray a cloth to clean the bin lids. It was one of those pump bottles and he was holding it with the bottom of the bottle up in the air and expecting it to work and was telling me it was no good!! :-S :-S I could just imagine him rubbing his eye too! I have been sent a video by Zoom to help you get the most from it I think. If it tells you haw to set up a meeting I will forward it in case you want to try.

Mandy my side was much improved till I whizzed round reaching up to shut all the windows for OH. It is still improving though and I was careful doing the rocks. I see the vet is being careful too and delaying the boosters and that Max will still be wormed and de-flead to keep them at bay. What a shame those barriers were in the way though and scratched the side of your car. I hope some polish will buff them out for you. It only needs the slightest touch to leave a scratch.

I'm off to bed early again now as I want to be up early again in the morning and put a few more plants in before the sun beats down. I must slather some cream on my arms and shins as the skin is so dry from the sun I shall soon have the skin of a Rhino!! lol. :-)

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 27 May 2020 20:59

I laughed at OH’s bag of peas Mel. I imagined standing there counting them out.

I don’t think Asda have any limits. Tesco say that the idea with their limits is so that everyone gets a fair share. I don’t usually find it too bad but I am still trying to get my head round veg and fruit and to an extent meat. Till lockdown I used to have a Tesco order of tinned and dried goods etc about every 4-6 weeks and buy all my veg etc fresh each week. It was easy with several other supermarkets around and a twice weekly market but now everything has to come from Tesco so I have to get my head a bit more in gear.

I can’t remember if I already said that our window cleaners have started work again this week. It’s wonderful, I can actually see out of the windows again.

I’m sure it’s none of my business but I wondered why you needed to draw cash AnnG. No-one round here will take cash. It’s card or nothing. The paper delivery and window cleaners are paid by online bank transfer as they always have been.

Gillx

Gillx Report 27 May 2020 21:01

Just a quickie to let you know I might not be on here tomorrow it's switch over day for my broadband and BT have said my Internet will go off for a while. I'm hoping to fix some screening in the garden so I won't know if the switch over has happened until I try to come online, so if I'm not on here you'll know why.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 27 May 2020 22:03

Vera the window cleaner takes cash, no card reader. Our neighbour who gets small amounts twice a week of milk, veg, bread etc which come to about £10 a time takes cash. We don’t go to shops but have always used cards then before anyway. I had cash saved which was used for the grandchildren when we saw them. And I have used that so wanted to replace it. I would hate a time when we can’t use cash. I actually read that cash is not a problem with the virus, it won’t live on there long. Put it away, wash my hands. Can’t be paranoid about everything.
