Evening all,

Phew hot here today ,Colin has pulled a muscle in the top of his leg i think it was because he has been painting the shed and being on a ladder stretching up to paint the top so we didn't get to the tip today if he's feeling better tomorrow we'll go in the morning .
We sat out this afternoon in the shade and i nodded off ,i started off reading my book but could feel my eyes getting heavy so down went the book and i was gone .

Oh Vera you had a rough old night with not much sleep hope you managed to get a few zzz in in the end .
I had to smile at your excitement of your trip out to the tip :-D
We don't have to make an appointment at ours but they are not letting vans in or cars with trailers ,i think it's because they have lanes now were you now back the car in and unload and they only let a few in at a time ,they won't help to unload you have to lift every thing yourself which is ok for us as we only have our tubs of garden rubbish .

Mel lovely to have the swallows back but shame about the mess they make .

Ann you'll be finding glass for ages it's surprising how far it goes on a tiles floor ,i drop a little glass coffee pot ornament ages ago and i found a piece the other day when i mopped in the conservatory .
I like nasturtiums but the last lot i had in the garden got loads of caterpillars crawling in them they shredded the plants in a couple of days .

Oh Mel your going to be as stiff as a board tomorrow you'll have to have a day off gardening tomorrow .

SuffolkVera Report 20 May 2020 21:23

Well, I didn’t get back to sleep. I heard OH get up just after 7 am and was just dozing off about 7.30 when there was such a racket outside. It was a couple of men come to replace some fencing for a neighbour. They very quickly got out the old fence panels but decided to break them up before putting them in their van. Their method seemed to be to drop the panels from a height on to the paving and then jump up and down on them. The noise was unbelievable.

At least I got the ironing done early before it got too hot. Then I had a frustrating time trying to order some knickers online. I had a 20% off voucher for a particular company and they had the sort I wanted so I placed my order, went to checkout and put my details in but the dratted site wouldn’t accept my postcode. Every time I put it in it came back with “Please enter a postcode”. I couldn’t proceed without it and I must have put it in a dozen times. In the end I gave up.

I have just had a little walk and now I am sitting in the garden doing this. It’s been so hot all day but it’s a comfortable temperature now though I think it might be a warm night.

You’ve been busy Mel. I hope you don’t feel too stiff and achy tomorrow.

I hope you are OK too Frank after your tumble a couple of days ago.

How did your Echo procedure go Jane? I’ve been thinking of you today..

Lucky you, Ann, with a haircut to look forward to. If this goes on much longer I shall stick a basin on my head and tell OH to cut round it.

Well, it’s beginning to get a bit gloomy out here now and has cooled down quite a bit so I had better go in. I think I might be having an early night and let’s hope we all sleep well.

Morning all,

Slept like a log again but I still ache from yesterdays border session so maybe today I will give it a rest. I also have a sore on my left knee where I knelt on a stone on the grass.

Cloudy here this morning but its not cold and all the trees are very still. they did say we were going to have some rain in the early hours but it dos'nt look like any fell here but I did see two big flashes of sheet lightening last night about 1.15am.

So how are you all this morn ing?? and where's Frank? Keep putting the cream on Frank....

AnninGlos Report 21 May 2020 10:24

Good morning all. nice day again, 17 degrees at 10.15 so looks like it will be another warm one. Not a lot to do today, one load of washing and maybe clean the bathroom and cloakroom. I slept well again last night although woke up at five for the loo and it was very warm in bed.

Hoping I have done the right thing letting OH go off to the local garden centre on his own. He has strict instructions to make sure he uses their hand gel etc but without me watching???? who knows? He wants log roll and the manager has sadi when OH phoned, he will make some up for him. so now I will worry until he gets back.

Annx Report 21 May 2020 10:25

Morning All,

Sun's coming through but it's a bit cooler than yesterday at the moment. OH has watered the pots and seed trays and is at a meeting at the moment so I have to tiptoe if I want to go past him into the kitchen.

I'm not surprised that you are achey after all that time working in your garden Mel. It soon catches my back these days with not being able to squat or kneel. We both have to have a day off after doing much outside now so find some lighter jobs or do some crafting! :-) I hope to do some planting out tomorrow. I'm starting a painting at last now, but later we will drive out to take the big bags of shreddings and leave them outside the gate. I think it should be a bit cooler tomorrow. No sign of rain or thunder here.

Oh Vera what a racket breaking the fencing up and so early too! Surely they could have done that part a bit later on. Mind you, the noisy dog nextdoor was let out at 6.00am this morning and he comes to the gate only a drive width from our bedroom window to have a good bark at everything. The little sweetie, Westie the other side ignores us completely in the garden unlike the noisy Shih Tzu and apart from a little growl if she sees something in the field, she does just one quiet bark when she wants to g in and then waits patiently outside till she is let in. I see you got your knickers in a twist last night, so I hope it works better next time! I had much the same with the 'new' upgrade of the free sessions linked to zoom and couldn't see where to join the photography one last night so had to miss it!

I slept well last night and must have fell asleep in the middle of the Great Sewing Bee so will have to watch it again tonight!

AnninGlos Report 21 May 2020 10:33

I missed you there Annx we posted at the same time. I can just imagibe how tense it is with your OH at his virtual meeting. do you usually take shreddings for them to use? I don't think anyone takes shreddings round here so ours either go in the compost (if a small amount or in the waste bin if larger.

I don't think there is much gardening here to day so I will just potter out there later to enjoy the sun.

Vera, I missed yours, How thoughtless of them to make such a row at that time of day.

Frank

Frank Report 21 May 2020 10:41

Good morning Mel, and All.

Sorry for a no show yesterday, BUT. Was up fairly early, got showered and shaved, as I had to go the the Hospital for my eyes.

I knocked the glass shower door off it's runner, so the door didn't seal properly, hence a puddle outside the shower cubicle. It was a WET ROOM from when I had my Stroke, so no damagedown to the floor coverings. I fixed that when I had finished showering.

The Hospital appointment was for my LEFT EYE, that has gone very misty, and I can't focus anything. After drops in both eyes, and a lot of questions. The nurse started taking Photo's of behind my eyes. She managed three photos of my right eye, but couldn't get any for my left eye. When I was called in to see the doctor. She immediately put MORE DROPS IN MY EYES. which STUNG like HELL. She then proceeded to shine a bright light into both eyes. She admitted she couldn't see behind my left eye, and started asking more questions and filling out a form. They will write to me with an appointment date, to have my eye lazered. This has been going on now for well over a year. So hope it gets sorted soon.

The nurse had to lead me out to the car, as I was as blind as a bat. They wouldn't let Ros stay in the hospital, she had to sit in the car. When we got home, I sat for the rest of the afternoon, sitting with my eyes closed. BORING or what. !!!

F & C man was here by 6.30 so I had a nice piece of cod, and Ros did ham and eggs with a few of my chips. The fish cake she had last week was far to BIG. she could barely eat half of it.

I am still as blind as a bat in my LEFT EYE, so again it will be a day of resting the eye, and doing very little.

Ros has just finished "SCRUB BAG" 405. She is stopping now, and will only restart making them, if she gets a request to make more. She will now be able to concentrate on her garden while the weather is nice.

I hope you are all keeping well, I will get back later today, if I have any news. xxxx

Morning all,

Hope everyone had a good night's sleep last night ,it's quite muggy here this morning, we have been to the tip ,seems to be lots more working there to keep things moving ,we only had a five minute wait if that and when Colin got out of the car there was a young lady worker who said if you like to get back in the car I'll empty your tubs for you so that was nice .

Just had a coffee and then on to the next job .

Mel I would have a rest today you don't want to over do it .

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 May 2020 12:08

I think I am going to work in my shed today. I have some things to repot and need to put my runners in their big tub as I have enough up now to fill it. There are three plants from last year coming up in the tub already so I will leave those in as they may be my Benchmaster ones from two years ago. I also need to sort out the plants around the patio outside the kitchen door as a lot are over and I need to repot some of those too.

At least the inside top of my legs is easier today. I must have stood funny working on the border yesterday and used muscles I had forgotten I had.

I have at last found a box to send something to Mandy in. It was in oh's study and he said I could have it so when I get it wrapped and get up the postvan it will be on its way but I can't guarantee when it will be. One thing is for the Christmas hamper and thats all I am saying.

405 scrubb bags!!! phew frak Ros's machine will be smoking if she carries on. Tell her to go in the garden and have some time to herself. Hope the eye clears a bit for you today. Mum used to have all those eye srops and she said one lot stung and one lot made her wee bright yellow.

I have been stung by something on my forhead and it itches like mad.

Hope Jane is ok today and sending love and wishes. <3 <3 <3 and a gentle ((hug))

Annx Report 21 May 2020 16:02

Riding ponies after a break would find those forgotten muscles too Mel! Good idea to work in the shed. It was really hot outside when we had our lunch. We didn't have time to take the shreddings today as I had forgotten OH has another meeting which is about to start. Sometimes he can go on mute unless he has to tell them they are suggesting something that will be breaking the law AnnG and I don't need to tiptoe then. No-one can see me walking through as the back of his laptop is towards me, which is a good job as I seem to be living in old clothes all the time with doing jobs!

What we did have time for was to pop and collect our prescriptions from the new chemist. More problems as they didn't have any of mine, just OH's!! They should have mine in this afternoon they say so we will pop back tomorrow. :-S What I can't understand is that we left it a week, so why do they suddenly not have any of my medication? None are out of the ordinary things. I'm beginning to find this prescription business nothing but stress!! :-(

Back to my painting now. I have a session on zoom later on how to make a face mask! I already have a pattern I cut out from one of the papers and we have 2 each I sent off for. With needing to wash them every time you need a few! It was good to see a young girl at the bus stop with one on when we went out. Some people were still not moving off the pavement to pass each other and were only inches from each other when I was waiting in the car while OH was in the chemist.

SuffolkVera Report 21 May 2020 16:24

My goodness, it’s hot again today. I’m sitting at the table in the garden with a big canopy up and a hat crammed tight on my head and covering the back of my neck. It’s not a good look but hopefully the sun won’t give me a headache. It was a hot sticky night and OH had had a glass of red so was snoring fit to burst so I migrated to the spare room at 2.30 am and read for a while but I did get about 4 hours sleep and feel OK so far.

I’ve been wondering how Jane is coping in this hot weather. I know she feels the heat. If you’re looking in Jane I hope you’re feeling OK and I’m sending lots of good vibes your way.

Thanks for the poem Frank. I had seen that one before but it made me laugh again, and made me think of the sixties with my little short dresses and pointy toed shoes. Sorry to hear the problems with your eye are still ongoing. I hope they can sort you out soon. It must be very frustrating for you. Ros deserves a medal for all those scrub bags she has made. She ought to have a bit of me-time now.

Did your OH get safely back from the garden centre AnnG? We ought to get out to our little local one but I am finding I no longer want to make the effort to go out. Somehow staying in seems normal now which is odd as before lockdown we were always out and about.

Colin was lucky to get help at the tip Mandy. At ours the staff are nor allowed to help at the moment and you can only have two people doing the tipping if the stuff really is too heavy for one person.

Ann, where do you take your shreddings? We haven’t found anywhere round here and we aren’t allowed to put them in the recycling bin so I think ours go to the tip. I must check that out with OH as he always deals with them. You do seem to have a few problems getting your meds. Is it Boots you go to? I used to have endless problems with Boots and several of my friends have trouble with them. I changed to Lloyds. When I collect my meds I tell them what I will want next time and 4 weeks later I go in and they are there waiting for me.

I did a couple of hours in the garden this morning sorting out stuff in pots and then I came in and had another go at ordering my undies. This time my postcode was accepted first time and I placed the order only to find they are now out of stock and won’t deliver for about 6 weeks. I’ve gone ahead anyway so that I could take advantage of my voucher for 20% off and free delivery.

I’m feeling a bit sticky so I think I will get a drink and then have a shower. Enjoy the rest of your day whatever you’re doing.

Jane Report 21 May 2020 16:29

Afternoon All
I hope OH is back from the garen centre now AnnG and followed all the correct procedures there :-D. I bet he wouldn't tell you if he didn't ;-)

Frank, I wonder if all your tumbles and bumps are to do with not being able to see out of your eye properly.it makes sense really. We will have to call you Mr Bump after the Mr Men :-D

Vera did you get your pants sorted and ordered? I had trouble ordering a Bra the other week but got it in the end .Was it M&S with the 20% off?

Ann I thought how lucky you were to arrange a hair appointment so have messeaged my hairdresser to see if he might be taking provisional bookings if as hoped they reopen in July. Havent had a reply though .

I hope you have your toilet trouble sorted now Gill. What an inconvienience !!

Mel you sounded like you really suffered after all that time on the border.Hope all the achy muscles are easing up now.

Mandy how is OHs leg after straining it up on the shed roof.I see you did manage to get to the tip . Vera will be loooking forward to her exciting trip out to her local tip :-D :-D

Yesterday Chris and I popped down to see Fitz for an hour which was so nice.Everything felt just normal for a while. We sat well apart from him but he was a little slapdash when filling the crisp bowl and then sticking his fingers in them to grab a handful before pushing the bowl over to us.I don't think he noticed that we didnt havev any :-D Georgette is working from home still but she managed to come out and sit with us for a few minutes. She is completely recovered now and looked well.

It is too hot for me to sit out really and MEL I have had that neck fan on this afternoon :-D It is really good and has 3 speeds and quick to recharge from my laptop. That was a smashing pressie :-D

I am still having trouble eating and it is so annoying and uncomfortable .Last night I just ended up with a Complan.I need some new Summer tops as last years are too big now and hang off my shoulders or hang too low under the arms. I would just love to actually see what I want rather than trying to guess how long /short or loose something might be by seeing pics on line.

Chris has a click and collect tonight for Waitrose between 6 and 8.I hope it can be ealrier like last time (4 hours early) but no phone call yet to say it is ready.

Oh yes I knew there was something else....Thomas for the last 2 nights has got into James 's bedroom through the window. The first time it frightened James half to death .Thomas must jump from the side gate up to the gutter and onto the bay window roof.
Little devil. He better not get in the habit of doing this because once the hot weather is over James will not have the window so wide open.He might find himself stuck up there all night lol

Annx

Annx Report 21 May 2020 18:58

Well that was good that a member of staff emptied your rubbish Mandy and meant you could stay in your car.

Vera it was Lloyds chemist that we changed from recently as we were always going back for things or they got things wrong. They were always slow and never had things ready and worked at snail pace. The big queues were the last straw so we changed to this private pharmacy. I just hope they have everything for tomorrow morning as it isn't in the spirit of mostly staying in if we have to keep going back. Ha ha, I have a flowerpot garden hat and have mostly been wearing my stetson type hat with the shady brim lately. OH says his flowerpot hat makes him look like one of the Diddy Men but he also wears a baseball cap outside sometimes to shade his eyes. I find they ruin any attempt at a hairstyle, especially now we have longer hair and just press mine into more waves still. :-S

Oh Frank Jane's suggestion that it may be your eyes not being good that is causing more falls is quite probable. I hope they can sort them out with some lasering. OH always has to start the eye drops that sting before he sets off for appointments now as he always needs at least another lot when he gets there so they can see into his eyes. He is funny since his cataracts and lasering were done. He is quite squeamish about watching things on tv like injections or those mummies we were watching on the Egypt programme. He said the other night that it was alright before his cataracts were done, as he could take his glasses off and couldn't see then. Now he says it's no good doing that, as his eyesight is so much better he can still see the things he wished he couldn't! :-)

Jane I often wish they would state the actual garment measurements as the 'fit' can vary so much with the style or make. Often I need a smaller size in one thing but bigger in another. It is a shame you are having trouble with eating, but maybe they will be able to suggest something when your results come through. At least the complan is giving you nourishment. I had to smile at Fitz and the nibbles and you avoiding them! lol. It is good Georgette is better now and able to work, but from home just now.

I have just done an online session making a face mask which was good. You can thread a wire in the top to grip your nose to stop your glasses steaming up and there is a slot to fit a quarter folded sheet of kitchen roll to help as a filter which you can renew each time. Apparently there is a shortage of elastic now, so jersey material that rolls up when you cut it is suggested as the ear loops.

We have taken the paper shreddings to the little smallholding for many years. They breed those little pygmy goats and used to have miniature horses. From time to time they sell Jack Russell pups and guinea pigs. There is always an assortment of poultry in the field at the side of the road as well. Normally they have wheelie bins at the side of the road and request vegetable peelings as well as shredded paper which I presume they use for bedding.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 May 2020 20:07

Gosh that was a bit naughty of Fitz to handle some crisps before offering them to you or at least letting you take some first. I'm glad Georgette is better now and Fitz managed not to get it.

Vera if you have an animal center near you I am sure tye would welcome your shreddings or My friend used to tear up newspapers for her horses bedding. Some horses can have aa bed of straw because they eat it and it causes problems. some are kept on wood shavings but Julie always used newspaper for hers. When I had the pet shop I used to tear up papers for her too and she would collect the bags when she came in for horse and goat food or her hubby would collect them when he came in for bird food.

Talking of ear loops for the masks Ann oh suggested that you could put those hair bands on them for round the ears. The ones like a bit of knitting that rolls up.

I used to get my scripts from Lloyds chemist in Holsworthy and they always took such a long time to serve one customer you would have thought they would have had at least two people serving. Now we changed surgery to the next village they seliver our scripts to the local shop so I pick them up from there. The only thing is I asked if they could give me gastro asprin for oh and they said yes but still sent the disperable ones.

We have motarella and tomato sausages tonight with cheesey potatoe bakes and sweetcorn. Nice.

Annx

Annx Report 21 May 2020 20:37

They sound nice sausages Mel. I think I would enjoy those and the rest of your meal! I'm getting a bit fed u with coming up with ideas now. That was a good idea your OH had. The lady also showed us how to use a plastic milk carton to cut a band for the back of your head to hook the ear loops onto. By making several slots it could be adjusted and is easy to disinfect each time. All these things have to be washed after each use and used by not touching the mask part if you can. We will avoid public transport as we mostly do anyway, but it would be useful to carry one to use in a shop once we go in one as not everyone obeys the rules and they are supposed to help, even if only a little.

Come to think of it, I used to use sheets of newspaper in the trays in my canary cages when I bred them years ago. They were so easy to clean out by just changing the paper. Of course at one time the Chippie would use them! They would line it with greaseproof paper or plain paper so in most cases.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 May 2020 23:26

they are nice Ann I used to get them in Morrisons and had these in the freezer. We finished off the blackberry and apple crumble after with Kellys clotted cream icecream.

It turned coudy again late afternoon and tried to rain big spots at about 9pm but it has'nt come to anything. They forcast high winds for us 40 to 60 miles an hour so that'll knock all the new plants down. Must go and tie up the peonies in the morning as I can't get their wire holders in the ground its so hard and some I can't get out cos its so hard. Can't win can I?

AnninGlos Report 22 May 2020 09:15

good morning all, dry partly sunny and very windy here which is a shame as it is blowing the petals off the roses.

Not good putting crisps out Jane and then putting his hand in first. Maybe little individual dishes would be better at this time for everyone but especially for you. Typical man though, sometimes their brains just don't accept everything it should,

Mel those sausages sound interesting, did you enjoy them. We don't ever shop in Morrisons unless we are on holiday in dorset.

Annx could you let me have instructions about the head band from milk cartons (and anything else that you know. with hearing aids it is difficult to put the elastic on my ears as well as the hearing aid arms and glasses.

The plumbers here, hopefully we'll have a working toilet soon. I must remember to flush it rather than pour water into it.

I've not read any posts yet so hope everyone is okay. I'll try and catch up with them later.

I've been so busy this week sorting the bungalow out, the decorating is done and the room put back to rights and all my craft kits have been put away, so that's two room back to normal now. I've given the whole bungalow a good clean and got rid of all the cobwebs around the ceiling, they seem to build up quite quickly, I had to get a chair to stand on as our ceilings are quite high.

I can hear the toilet, so think the plumber is almost finished. BBL

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 22 May 2020 10:24

Gill, I can't believe that your bungalow needed a good clean. You are always cleaning so it must be the cleanest one in your road. I am sure you would think our house was filthy if you came here. I have never ever enjoyed housework and always prefer to be doing other things so the house is clean as long as you don't poke into corners :-D

Pleased that you have got a plumber in to fix the loo anyway.
