AnninGlos Report 12 May 2020 12:57

Good afternoon, sunny here but windy as well and still only 11 degrees outside.

I had a few bits from our neighbour to wipe down and I dusted and polished lounge and dining room, found a silver cleaning cloth in the cupboard so cleaned a silver tray and a few silver spoons. Other than that just read the paper on line and went on facebook and on here. So not done much really. Going to have lunch now.

Gillx Report 12 May 2020 13:12

Afternoon all

Sunny here but a bit of a cold wind with it, so not the weather for sitting outside with my cuppa today. It's getting cloudier by the minute so I'm expecting a bit of rain soon.

I'm so pleased I did the router yesterday, I forgot I had to submit my metre readings today, so that's been done and I've had a text letting me know their will order my fibre by 30th June. I thought it was the 15th May, that's what it said on the letter. It could be because I'm a bit later than everyone else swapping the routers over.

You've been very busy today Mel, good job you had a good nights sleep to give you the energy to tackle your jobs.

Sorry to hear about your friend's husband passing away Ann. She sounds very active for 77 moving all the furniture out of the room to make way for the double bed. I hope you had a better nights sleep last night. Good idea for your OH not to climb near the greenhouse and wait until the water butt is empty before cutting back the Ivy. With little rain around it won't be long before all the rain water has gone and he can do the job safely.

What a shame you've had to cancel your Diamond Wedding holiday to Lanzarote AnnG, but like it's been said you still have each other which is the main thing and you'll enjoy your holiday at a later date more knowing it's safe to go. Sorry to hear you mum passed away a month before her celebration.

I hope the Blackbird hasn't destroyed all your baskets Mandy, I noticed a Blackbird collecting bits from our border for his nest the other day, the worse is when they take the moss out of the gutter and make a right mess outside the back door. At least it saves OH having to clean the gutters but gives me a job of brushing it all up. Maybe Max was telling you, you needed to re-pot the plant, bless him trying to help.

It sounds like Ros is still busy with her sewing Frank, with everyone needing masks now she might be even busier soon.

I had such a busy day yesterday I didn't have a chance to come back on here. At least the router is working today, so I know I can chat with you all again.

Annx Report 12 May 2020 16:12

Afternoon All,

A day of extremes, bright sun then freezing and windy. I slept like a log last night too Mel, so at least 2 of us had plenty of Zzzzz! I have ordered some lettuce seeds on line and they should arrive by next tuesday and they are the cut and come again mix I have had for a few years now, just like yours! The hearting types tend to bolt all at once don't they so don't last as well as these. I like the variety with some red leaves too. I put my plants outside to harden off this morning but they are all back inside now.

I made 4 meals of somerset pork today with lots of veg in them including a small bag of the spinach I froze before. The 2 I shall freeze will save me time another day. We had bought scones after and I used some of the leftover fromage frais instead of cream in them but they were still very nice.

Oh Mandy those little tinkers pulling your plants out of your hanging baskets! Mel's idea sounds a good one to stop them. You will have to put them their own basket up filled with bits of wool, dried grass and fluff!!

That was a shame having to cancel your wedding anniversary holiday AnnG. Gwyn was right though in that you have the most important thing.....each other. You will have to come up with some new ideas how to celebrate it. My first thought that came into my head was a 'masked ball' at home!! Please excuse my inappropriate sense of humour, it just comes out and I do realise what a terrible disappointment it must be with being your Diamond Anniversary too. It was sad your mum never quite made it to her celebrations. Please let us know the date so I can at least send you a card.

I did a silly thing today......losing my marbles again! There was a sewing session on Zoom like the others I have done, so I signed in and one lady was already there. We had quite a chat and she said she was in Cornwall, but no-one else arrived, not even the teacher. After nearly half an hour she checked the date and we discovered the session was yesterday! lol. :-0

Gill, the lady's husband had a stroke at age 45, so she has done lots of DIY herself too. She still makes lovely dresses, crochets cardigans and is a great cook. She has shown us beautifully made bedding sets with matching curtains. Her garden is long enough for competition archery practice as she represented GB years ago and she does a lot of the garden herself now and grows most veg. She sealed a leak in her conservatory roof herself recently, yet she has arthritis in her shoulder and has had a bone removed from her hand. She was still towing a 16 foot caravan till last year and would have still been doing it if her husband had been well enough. She puts me to shame with all she still manages to do.

The Pigeons and Magpies seem to be in our garden every day now looking for grubs and things, oh and drinking from my little water filled pot with the lily.

SuffolkVera Report 12 May 2020 17:37

Good afternoon all

What a shame you have had to cancel your trip AnnG. You will have to have a lovely little celebration at home with just the two of you on the day and, of course, we’ll all be raising a glass to you. You can then book a special holiday when the time is right.

Ann, I’m wondering what my hair, and OH’s, is going to look like by July as well. Mine is short and thick but as it starts to get longer it tends to go into some very old fashioned waves. It’s beginning to feel too long already. Fancy getting your Zoom day wrong but at least you had a nice chat with someone new. I was sorry to hear about your friend’s husband and hope trying to arrange a funeral at this time doesn’t cause her too much stress. She sounds a very capable lady.

I hope your foot/ankle is feeling a bit better Frank. I bet Ros is still busy sewing - you’d be millionaires by now if she charged for all the work she does. I hope people appreciate all her efforts. Thanks for the sweet video of the little bird.

Have you found out what your pine is, Jane? I guess it’s a black pine but I wouldn’t have a clue what variety.

Well done on sorting your router out Gill.

It’s not been a good couple of days. I woke yesterday feeling very shaky and with the pain in my head back again. It feels as though it’s right in the bones of the skull. I had to go to the pharmacy to pick up my meds. OH drove me so he could drop me right outside. He then went to the nearest car park and I only had to walk back from the chemist to the car. We got back and I spent most of the day in bed.

Then I took a call from OH’s youngest sister to say that her husband had been taken to hospital at the weekend with a heart attack. In the flurry of getting him off to hospital she didn’t think to pack his mobile phone and can’t go to see him at the moment so is having to rely on one of the nurses in the CCU answering the phone and being able to tell her how he is.

Looking on the positive side I think, fingers crossed, that my mouth is a bit less painful today. How’s your sore mouth now Mel?

OH has taken our friend to and from hospital for his chemo today and will do the same tomorrow. I’m not really happy about it but the friend doesn’t trust any of his own family as he says they haven’t been careful enough about keeping a distance and not mixing with others. If my OH won’t take him he says he will have to drive himself and he really isn’t safe to do that - he’s already had one “funny turn” at the wheel. If he drove and had an accident injuring himself or, even worse, someone else my OH wouldn’t forgive himself, so he does the driving and I send him off with hand gel, wipes and a face mask in case he has to get out of the car, which he hasn’t had to do yet. When he gets back the car practically gets bathed in Dettol.

Well the old man is back from hospital and has wiped the car down so I had better make him a cuppa. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll find some happy news instead of making you read all this doom and gloom. Take care folks and stay safe.

Ann at least you had a good chat with someone new even if you both missed the session. I hope you will keep in touch with the lady.

Vera my mouth is still a bit sore and rubbing on my denture. I think it may have been an ulser. I used to get a lot of those when I was young. My grandad always told me to put salt on it. I nearly hit the roof but it worked. Not sure if I am bold enough to do that now. I use te corsodyl.

I have been up in the border this afternoon and just come down for a drink and to feed the chickens and bantams their corn.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 May 2020 18:29

Oh dear Ann a definite senior moment that was. Still you had a nice chat.
Our anniversary is the 27th August.
Masked ‘ball’ :-D many a true word spoken in Jest!
Your pork meal sounds tasty.

Vera my hair has grown downwards and out and up it is so thick now and where it is normally short over my ears it is now ‘wings’. I don’t know what to do with it, very tempting to hack it off but trying to resist.

Mandy naughty blackbirds. We seem to have bathing parties in the afternoons, the birds almost queue up to have a dip in the water feature. In a very short time blackbirds, sparrows and a Robin all had a dip.

Annx

Annx Report 12 May 2020 19:38

My hair is beginning to develop those 'Marcel' waves Vera. My hairdresser always smiles when I tell her they are coming. :-) I also have the start of a 'wing' where my fringe is swept to one side like AnnG describes and I've started to tuck the sides behind my ears. Hubby has offered to trim the back, but would you let a man loose on yours when he can't even get the suction soap dish level in the bathroom? :-0 That'll be a 'no' then! What a shame you are getting this head pain and were shaky and had to go to bed. I hope you feel a bit better now. I went a bit dizzy in the shower the other day. The only recent change was keeping up my hayfever tablets and when I read the leaflet it said they could cause it. I've seemed ok since. To be honest I think we are all under some stress for one reason or another with the circumstances just now.

Mel the 'wipe' days take ages don't they. Then the bin days are wipe days too.

OH has come out in a rash on his lower legs. He sat out in the sun in some ancient shorts he found a couple of days ago and it has happened before in the past so he must be allergic to the sun. It never seems to happen on his arms though. As we have bungalows either side and he often pegs out washing in his jim jams early in the morning I told him to make sure his 'giblets' are well covered if it is sunny!!

Gillx Report 12 May 2020 21:02

Wow what a woman Ann, amazing all the things she's done and I thought I did a lot, she puts me to shame. Fancy getting the date wrong for your session, at least you and the other lady had a good chat.

Oh dear Vera you've had a time of it lately, I hope things improve for you soon and your headache goes quickly.

I hope your mouth starts feeling better soon Mel, putting salt on will help but if it's to painful and you can't bring yourself to do it then the Corsodyl should work.

Did anyone watch Keith Lemon's Fantastical Factory of Curious Craft? , Eamonn Holmes was choosing which one he liked for his garden, he chose a table with a water feature in the middle, I like the blue plastic one that reflected the picture onto the floor when the sun shone through it. I don't really like Keith Lemon so I thought it was going to be rubbish, but it was really good, I'm looking forward to the next one now. It's on Sunday 8pm channel 4 if anyone's interested.

I don't like Keith Lemon either but I have watched a bit of some of his shows. I think he is sooooo rude but the young ones seem to like that sort of thing.

We had chinese tonight and it was lovely all from Asda.

Morning Mel and all

Alternate sun and cloud here and it still looks very breezy. OH has been out and came back with very cold hands so I guess it’s still quite chilly. I’m just about to put some sheets in the wash as I think it might be a good drying day.

I’m glad your mouth feels a little bit better Mel. I think mine does too.

Enjoy your day everyone

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 May 2020 10:10

Glad yours too is better Vera. It makes it so hard to eat anything and enjoy it.

Very breezey here too and its cold. It seems to be coming from the east here and I know Suffolk can get that very cold wind fromt he east. It used to blow across our garden when I went down to feed the chickens when I lived in suffolk.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 13 May 2020 11:29

good morning all. dry (could do with some rain again actually for the garden) windy and only 8 degrees out there. OH is pottering, he said earlier he didn't have any jobs to do but he seems to have found some.

I have prepped the meal (slow cooker) for tonight and have got washing in the drier, just made coffee and afterdrinking it will give the bathroom a bit of a clean.

Might make some scones later. (when I am sure OH is staying outside.and won't be underfoot).
Glad the moths seem better this morning.

Annx Report 13 May 2020 11:31

Morning All,

Looks warner than it is here, nice and sunny but still chilly. I haven't put the greenhouse plants outside yet till it gets a bit warmer.

Glad Vera and Mel's mouths are less sore this morning. I was watching Health live yesterday morning and they were saying what to do about dentists. They suggested ringing your dentist for advice with problems. They said to keep your mouth clean and mentioned salty rinses, so your dad was right Mel. Seeing the dentist is a no no yet, but they seemed to suggest that antibiotics could be issued so it might be worth trying a phone call to see what advice they have.

No real plan for today, but I shan't be dashing to a garden centre as they are bound to be busy. I see already, people have been ignoring the rules about public transport and sitting next to each other! With the incubation period average being 5 days I expect we won't know if the easing has caused an increase in the spread till next week.

I have already done some shredding of old papers in my filing cabinet but better sort lunch now and get the washer on. We are getting our own lunches today, tomatoes on toast for me, then rhubarb sweetened with stevia and custard made with skimmed milk powder and stevia so I can cut down a bit to make room for the last 2 scones later! :-D I need to start shifting a few more pounds again! I expect OH will have sardines on toast and the same pud as me. It's a shame not to use all this free rhubarb in the garden.

Frank Report 13 May 2020 12:23

Good morning to you all, I see I wasn't missed yesterday. lol lol

My you have had a lot going on in your lives.. Not good that you have to cancel your 50th Anniversary holiday AnnG. One conciliation is that you might well do it later, but just not quite the same.

I can't believe it will be our anniversary on the 3rd June. 43 years this time. Had I stayed married, I would be celebrating 62 years in Oct.

Ros is out in the GARDEN this morning, weeding the pots down the drive. She bought two new ones this week, so I have drilled the holes in the bottoms for drainage. Our "DOBBIES" open today, so she might go over later to get a few bedding plants. Yesterday we went to B & Q. I can see where the "Q" comes from. There were people queueing half way round the car park. There was no way we were staying there, just for a few BIG POTS for her Tomato plants. We then went to Tesco's. As I walked up to get a trolly, a young man pointed at a chap who was handing out CLEANED TROLLIES. I took one and Ros got another. I followed the arrows around the stores one way system. Managed to get my paper and a couple of cases of beer. I then tramped off looking for Ros. After what seemed an hour, I gave up and payed for my paper and beer, and went back to the car. A Tesco's staff member asked if I was O.K. when I explained what had happened , he said he would get a message put out over the TANOY . The next thing I know is Ros walking down towards me. She had been searching for me also. But with the ONE WAY SYSTEM there was no way we could bump into each other. With that all done and dusted, we went on to a little shop for SELF RAISING FLOUR. It's the little shop that always seems to have things, that are out of stock at the supermarkets. The stupid thing is, the flour was for CAROLYN not us.

We then drove to Towcester to B & Ms. where she was able to buy her Compost and large pots. Their bedding plants were none existent, due to everyone buying them. After this MARATHON day out for me, I was glad to get home and have a COT.

I put some old bed sheets over the runners last night, as they said there would be s frost. Not that I noticed it, again I slept until 10.00 am this morning. Mind you I did lay awake for a long time during the night. So that's my excuse, and I am sticking to it. lol lol

Very bright afternoon now, with blue sky and a very light breeze. I am hoping for rain later, that will save me going around watering this evening, and RAIN seems to do so much better than tap water.

My oh my, I have been on here for over 45 minutes. OLD GAS BAG I hear you say.

As always, stay safe my dear friends. xxxx

AnninGlos Report 13 May 2020 14:02

Frank I expect you presed the wrong key but it is 60th not 50th. Our 50th was great and well celebrated, a long weekend at daughter when son and family turned up as well. They sprang a surprise on us. Train tickets to London and a super hotel overlooking the Thames booked for three nights plus £100 spending money And tickets for a show.. The actual anniversary we spent in Jersey for a week.

You and Ros are certainly taking a lot of chances going out and about and there is me really worried because Oh is talking about going to B&Q as he needs some wood to fix the back wall of the shed.

As not everyone reads the garden thread on hobbies board I thought I would repeat this,

I thought this was a quite interesting message from our local council after they esumed the garden waste collection.

Since the garden waste collections resumed last Monday, the crews collected over 222 tonnes in the first three days which is more than one quarter of the total collected in May last year. Its quite clear you all like your gardening!

Frank

Frank Report 13 May 2020 16:06

Hi AnnG, What am i like, hitting the wrong key.

When we do go out we are very careful, wearing masks, and keeping our distance from everyone. It has been a real treat for me, getting away from the bungalow for a while.

Today has been spent reading, while Ros has been in her GARDEN. She has been on the front today, digging out all the DANDELIONS from the centre bed, where Tony seems to cultivate weeds. He has no flowers in his garden. As he doesn't bother with his garden, he never thinks of weeding the area between us. It's always left to Ros.

We have decided to have F & C tonight. If he doesn't have Fish Cakes, and pineapple fritters, Ros will do a couple of eggs for herself, with some Ham and a few of my chips.

Blisworth Stitchery Do has announced they have made 400 plus "SCRUB BAGS"for the local Hospital. Considering that Ros has made 350 herself. It dosen't seem that the rest of the group have put themselves about. !!!! They have set themselves a target of 1,000. So at this rate, if Ros has a break, it will take them into next year to reach THE TARGET. I'm SORRY but the women who run the group, always wants all the praise and thanks, when she basically does SOD all. MOAN OVER.

I haven't heard any news yet, about the CORONAVIRUS figures today. I expect it will be on the Evening News later. Ros is indoors now KNITTING more baby cloths. She never seems to sit still for a minute, she always needs to be doing something. I'll have to SCREW HER FEET DOWN. to make her relax, and do nothing.

What have you all been up to today. Pam and Denis went to a Garden Centre this morning, they were queuing for best part of an hour to get in. They came home with NOTHING for the garden, so what a waste of time. !!!!

I'll sign off with my favourite phrase. "KEEP SAFE" xxxx
