Morning all

Dull and cloudy here today and not very warm, you can certainly tell summer is on it's way out.

Good news for Colin Mandy with his hip. That was lucky getting the appointment for his ears, not long to wait until the end of the month.

Love your latest make Mel, the acorn leaves are a lovely colour. You come up with some really good ideas and they always look so professional. Hope your OH is out of pain now and doesn't over do things again.

Oh dear Ann, it's not nice when you're covered in bites, try not to scratch them, easier said than done I know but they'll just end up worse. Do you have some cream you can use? Hope they feel better soon. I see you are getting your fence sorted, hope the quote isn't to high then it'll be done before the winter arrives. OH forgot I needed help starting the screening today and promised a couple of friends he'd help them over the next two days, so I'll have to wait now. The weather was suppose to be nice to. Mind you it is Friday 13th tomorrow and I'm very superstitious, so wouldn't of wanted to do it then anyway.

Talking of Christmas I've bought two tins of Quality Street to put away for Christmas. Tesco's had them on offer, 2 tins for £7. Has anyone noticed how small the tins of sweets are now, compared to the larger ones years ago and the price has doubled......talk about cheeky.

We're going to give one of the tins to OH's friend, he's on his own with no family and doesn't have anything for Christmas so over the past few years we've started buying him presents and sweets so he has something to open on the day. It's his birthday sometime in January (he won't tell us the exact day) so we buy him a birthday present to. We've offered to have him here on Christmas day, so he's not on his own, but he always says no. Maybe one year he'll change his mind. He's 80 years old and a lovely kind man. OH met him when he was caring for his late partner in the nursing home and they've remains friends ever since.

Good morning all,\

Fair to middling sort of day here, a strong breeze with plenty of clouds.

What a waste of time is was for Ros yesterday. She picked Carolyn up around 1.00 pm so left plenty of time to get to the hospital at Kettering. When she went to reception and gave her details, the receptionist said "SORRY" your consultant doesn't come on duty until 4.30 pm. Ros's appointment was for 2.00 pm. So home they came, not very happy as you can imagine. She has rung this morning and has a new appointment for 4.30 pm the 4th October. So I just hope they don't COCK this one up.

The new plug arrived this morning, fits like a glove, and holds water, whereas the old one leaked the water out. Also Ros's BRACELET arrived from QVC. It just leaves a couple of ornaments to arrive and for me to order flowers for next week. I rang Lewis at work yesterday. I want him to pick a cake for his Nan's birthday, from all the cakes that they sell at Valeries. He is bound to pick a nice one. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Ann, We are fighting a MASSIVE RAIL TERMINAL , they want to put at Junction 15a on the M1. It will affect. Blisworth, Milton Malsor, Collingtree and Gayton. It ,like yours will have hundreds of acres of buildings, and you can imagine the traffic it will bring through the villages. I think it's at the stage where a Government Department is involved. together with petitions and backing from the local South Northants Council. At the end of the day, it will come down to how big the "BACK HANDER" is, and whose palms get greased lol lol

Jan is coming today to stay with her daughter Kerry, and coming here Saturday at 1.00 pm to take Ros and Carolyn to the Cinema to see "DOWNTOWN ABBEY". Then of course she will be here Sunday for lunch at the "GREYHOUND" with Simon and Sally, for Madams birthday bash. Then it all happens again on Thursday, which reminds me. I HAVEN'T BOOKED A TABLE YET" Must do that this evening when they open.

I see Colin has come along leaps and bounds now Mandy. He will soon have you out dancing at the local dance hall. lol lol

Gill that's very kind of you and OH giving that old chap presents, and the offer of Christmas day with you. You never know he might accept this year. When we had a Widow living opposite, Ros and I would cook her, and her visiting brother, a Boxing Day Roast of Turkey and all the trimmings, unfortunately she passed away a couple of years ago. We also cooked, and Ros did the washing for Joy, who lived next door but one to us. Again she passed away two years ago come Christmas, and her daughter hasn't been to the bungalow in all that time. The gardens both back and front are a wilderness. Pam and Denis, have complained to the local Council, but nothing had happened.

I've decided not to cook tonight, so will go to the Collingtree for a bite to eat. Ros is back at Choir tonight at 7.00 pm. So I will record her soaps as per usual, for her to watch when I go to bed.

Still no sunshine, but plenty of drilling and banging next door !!!! see you later. xxx

Gwyn in Kent Report 12 Sep 2019 13:24

Just popping in to say Hello and it's nice to catch up with your news and read about your talented crafts.

How maddening for Ros to have a wasted journey. They could have let her know before yesterday. They are quick to moan about wasted appointments and rightly so, but that was a waste of someone's valuable time too.

I've been into school this morning volunteering. The weather was so nice that the teacher took the class out onto the playing field to work at their task. I had a short sleeved T shirt on and could feel the sun burning into my back.... What a contrast with yesterday, when it was blustery, damp and cold. I even wore a coat to go into town... The first time in months that I've needed one.
The forecast is good for the weekend, so this late summer sun is a real bonus. I will probably have a good go at the garden, before our garden bin is collected on Monday.

Evening All
I have just sent a few pics from today. It was so hot !!! Had another lovely paddle :-) This one was much nicer than the one the other day .No big shingle bank to clamber over. Just down some steps onto the sandy beach.Again the water was quite warm and so refreshing.

We are starting to pack up now ready for home tomorrow :-( I could happily stay another week here.Last night we had drinks with the owners in their own little bar in a converted barn. They have done a really good job there. We didn't have to pay either for our drinks as they said it was a thankyou for choosing to stay here. How nice is that. The lady owner makes candles, toiletries ,and scents.,and she brought out the newest scented candle that had just been made yesterday .Not on sale yet . But I did buy 3 of her other ones .Again they are new ones and not too scented ( I am like Mel and can't do a lot of highly scented things) .She has quite a business set up here and making a bomb !!.

Frank that was really bad with Ros going all that way to the Woodlands only to be told the Consultant wasn't on duty unil later. So-one made a right blooper there :-S
Do you know the name of the Orthopedic Surgeon? Wonder if it might the one I or Fitz had.

Hi Gwyn, nice to see you back with us again. :-D How lovely for the children to have their lesson outside.I hope they had plenty of sunscreen on in this heat :-D. I remember often having lessons out doors at Primary School.

Oh Oh Dotty Dog has just shot in the door !!!!!. I have a feeling that people might have turned up for another cottage and so she is all excited and being daft. She is just being a little bit bonkers right now LOL

I found a Cornish Pasty Co shop today :-D Now I have been hankering after a Pasty for so long ,so bought 2 big ones which we will be eating tonight. They smell the real deal so better taste the real deal too :-D I think Dotty has sniffed them out as she was mooching around in the kitchen :-D

Evening all,

What a beautiful day it's been the sun has been so warm ,i went to Norwich with DIL as it's Chelsea's birthday next week and i wanted to get her some clothes and bits ,my poor feet i really need to get in the sea like Jane has done today ,it's years since we've been to Southwold ,i seem to remember going on the car park and the beach was just over the path ,it's a lovely beach .

Gill i bought two tins of sweets from Morrisons last week Hero's and Celebrations ,they had them two tins for £7 too, i bought two tins or son and family.
I think it's a lovely idea to buy a little some thing for the elderly man friend

Frank if Colin goes dancing he'll have to go on his own i carn't dance for toffee :-D
What a waste of Ros's time going to the appointment that wasn't the right time ,you would have thought they would have realised when they gave out the appointment that the consultant wasn't there at that time .

Yes it should be nice weather for weekend Gwyn ,sounds as if you've been busy again helping out at the school .

It's been a bit windy here too AnnG ,i love watching the waves when it a rough day .
Tomorrow we need to go shopping i have quite a list of bits and pieces to get ,so it's Aldi and Tesco and fruit and veg from the warehouse shop.

Evening All,

Warm and sunny here with a bit of breeze today. We went to the old manor for a lunchtime carvery and the turkey was delicious today. We never book, but since a few weeks ago, Sharon has reserved our favourite table for us and sets it out anyway with our water jug, cutlery and 2 biccies. She said if we don't turn up by 12.30pm she will let the table go so it works well. :-D

Mel the leaves and acorns are so realistic and fooled me! The bites are getting red and hot now with the biggest one of the nine about 3 inches across. I've been putting antihistamine cream on but have now read that the tablets might interact with my medication and lower blood pressure which might explain me feeling dizzy when I took the Benadryl one before and had to change to the Loratadine I usually take. I think I'll mark the edge with a felt pen. I was going down the road to look at cards tonight when it is less busy at the retail park, but there's a lake opposite and the canal and river behind which these biters like so changed my mind.

Frank, poor Ros isn't having much luck with her appointments lately. It's such a hassle to find parking spots as well. Yes I can't believe the size of these rail freight depots. Apparently within 50 miles of this one they hope to build 3 other large ones are being built! It makes you wonder where all these goods are going.

A blind chap sitting on a bench in the city with his guide dog waiting for his girlfriend had his lunch at the side of him stolen. How can people sink so low! A kind man at a city takeaway has given him two free lunches to show him not everyone is that unkind.

Nice to hear from you Gwen! I used to love it at school when we occasionally had a lesson outside in the fresh air.

Gill you and your OH are so thoughtful. I bet even if the man doesn't come at Christmas it will give him a warn glow to have been invited and you giving him presents will let him know you care about him and that he is remembered too. Will Sandra do him one of her lovely cards? :-)

I would enjoy watching the waves and the windsurfers too AnnG. It sounds lovely and relaxing. Pity about your battery going though.

Gillx

Gillx Report 12 Sep 2019 21:38

Talking of wind surfers AnnG reminded me of when we lived by the sea and could sit in the dining room overlooking all the wind surfers and jet skis. That the bit I miss about living there. What a shame your battery ran out on your watch, hope you can get another one.

So Dotty is being dotty Jane :-D :-D How were your pasties? Did Dotty have any? It sounds like you've had a great time away, just what you and Chris needed. How nice of the owners not to charge you for your drinks. Do you think you'll go back there one day? It sounds like it was easier to get to the water this time with walking on the sand.

Everyone's been lucky with the weather today, we've had the heating on all day it's been that cold and cloudy, they said it was going to be nice but we ended up with a light shower of rain, so I guess they got it wrong.

How bad was that Frank with Ros's appointment time. Maybe next time she should ring them just to make sure. It would save her a wasted journey.

How lovely for the children to have lesson's outside in the sun Gwyn. Have fun in the garden over the weekend. OH and I had to move a very large tree we have in a pot today. It's very windy here and we were worried it might be blown over, so it's now in a more sheltered spot. OH is hoping the weather is nice here over the weekend so he can clean our drive and around the bungalow where the flags are, they are pretty dirty with all the work that went on next door when he had an extension done, so they could do with a good clean before the winter arrives.

Fancy someone stealing the poor blind man's lunch Ann, what is the world coming to? That was nice of the other fella to offer him a free lunch though. Sandra hasn't made OH's friend a Christmas card yet but will probably make him one this year now she's got to know him. He doesn't have any family of his own but is sometimes invited out for Christmas lunch by his partners niece (his partner passed away a few years ago) but she never buys him any present for Christmas. Maybe because he isn't family might be why she's never bothered. He does keep in touch with his partner's son, which is nice, but he lives in Germany so it's not very often they meet up and never at Christmas time.

When OH told me a few years ago about his situation I felt bad for him, that's when I suggested to OH to buy him a little something, his friend was thrilled and last year he bought us a tin of sweets, which was nice of him. It was funny as it's was the first year we decided to buy him a tin of sweets, so we ended up with the same thing for each other.

He loves books and anything to do with the war and over the years we've found a few things along that line for him, which he said he's loved. He said he's got used to being on his own over Christmas and that he's used to it now, but we still offer him to come to us.

He's the same friend who had problems with a water leak in his hall, I think I mentioned that he ended up with a big hole in his floor and left like that for months, well he gave up with the people who were suppose to be fixing it and claimed on an Insurance he had, so the job has finally been done after months of leaving him in a dangerous situation. We offered for him to come and stay with us until it was fixed, but again he declined. I think he's a very independent man, so we don't push it with him, he knows we're here if he needs us.

Morning AnnG, morning all

Sunny with a bit of cloud here to AnnG, although it looks like we've had some rain earlier, as the bench is wet.

Safe journey home today Jane. Thomas will be pleased to see you. When are Hannah and James home?

So everything is sorted for Sunday I see Frank. Have you booked somewhere for Thursday now? It sounds like Ros is going to have a lovely birthday with the family.

I spent all day yesterday washing, although the weather wasn't good enough to peg anything out and it was bedding so I couldn't put it in the greenhouse. Luckily we had the heating on so it went on the radiators. I've asked OH to go back to the man who said he could fix our dryer to find out the name of the part it needs so I can ring the insurance we got for it and let them know what the problem is, that way it won't cost us anything to have it fixed. I did ask OH a while ago to ask what the part was called, but he forgot. Hopefully he'll remember today.

I nearly set fire to our bungalow the other night. Sandra hates daddy long legs and two had come in through the window, she was in a bit of a state so I grabbed our feather duster, well it's not feathers more like fluffy nylon and started trying to catch it in there as it was flying to high for me to grab it. I thought it had gone on a tall lamp I had so tried to get it out not realising the bulb was hot. I didn't give it a thought and while I had the duster I thought I'd carry on and get rid of the cobwebs.

A few minutes later we could all smell something burning, I'd caught the hot bulb with the duster and it had melted some of it which had stuck to the bulb, I quickly turned the lamp off and when it had cooled down changed the bulb. I couldn't believe how stupid I'd been, we were so lucky I realised what it was. The lamp is about six and a half foot tall so you can't actually see the bulb as it's an up lighter one.

At least Sandra was pleased in the end as the new bulb wasn't as bright, but it was a bit scary when I could smell the burning and didn't know where it was coming from. If you remember I was in a house fire when I was about 12 years old so wouldn't want to be in another one.......definitely a lesson learnt there, I think.

Good morning all,

Blue sky here also, you can see where the planes have gone across the sky, with the slip stream, or whatever you call it.

One good thing Gill, is you have learnt your lesson, DON'T DUST hot light bulbs. Did you manage to the them out in the end. Thanks for reminding me, I HAVEN'T BOOKED A TABLE YET, for Thursday.. I will phone this morning and leave a message on the answer phone. What am I like ???

I think all Children like to get out of the classroom, and get the feel of nature around them. When the frogs were laying their spawn, our teacher would walk us to a spot that was covered in frogs spawn. We had an aquarium in the class room, and would bring some back in jam jars. Oh what lovely childhood memories. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

That dog seems to have the perfect name Jane. "DOTTY" by nature and dotty by name. How lovely for the owner to offer you drinks FOC on your last night. You have made my mouth water, even at this time of day. A Cornish Pasty, I could just sink my teeth into one now, with a bit of mustard or Branstone Pickle. Safe journey home today, and I hope Thomas has been a good boy

I had another bad night last night. I woke from a dream of me helping a young woman giving birth prematurely, and I just couldn't get it out of my mind. Where did that come from ?? Anyway, I dropped off again around 7.00 am until 9.30. Eos was already up and had me Aspirin and COT waiting from. "BIGGLES> was there to greet me when I walked in the lounge. Carolyn has offered to give him a long walk each day. until Sunday when Ann and Alan are back. He has prostate Cancer, and isn't coping very well by what Ann said yesterday. He had just come back from treatment. How he can go off to London singing in a CHOIR over the weekend, I just don't know. I expect it helps take his mind off his illness.

It's Tony's birthday today, so one of us will have to take his card and present round. Eos is in the shower and washing her hair. So I will nip in for a quick one, then get dressed.

Have a good day everyone. Take care, and I will see you all later. xxxx

Got on well this morning. Fed the girls and did some washing and thats out on the line. Cleaned the big bathroom and hoovered the bedroom and sucked up all the blooming spiders again. Just sitting here taking a pill and then I am going to do the little loo. O tidied a bit in the study while he was doing the filter on the pond.

I expected a comment like that from someone Mel, I again, can't remember the last time I had a "QUICKIE" I think ADAM was a boy lol lol

What a beautiful day we have had. The sun has shone all day, and it's sooooo WARM. in fact it was too hot to sit out.

Ros has made a leek pie for us tonight. Pam next door popped in earlier and in conversation said, What have you been cooking, as the window was open, and a nice smell wafted over to her kitchen. She didn't know what a Leek pie was. But being PORK with it, Tracy couldn't rat it, as she has an allergy to pork.

Carolyn has just taken Biggles for a walk, she absolutely loves all dogs, so is in her glory walking him.

Both the garden ornaments have arrived, and I have ordered her flowers, and booked the table. I had a call back at lunchtime to confirm it. So I am job free now.

It's TWELVE MONTHS tomorrow that Ros had her HEART ATTACH. Where does the time go. ?? When she mentioned at choir last night that she wouldn't be there next week as she was being taken out for her Birthday. The woman who runs it said is it the BIG 70. ?? Ros said she wished it was. lol lol

Have just had a big box of Brochures turn up addressed to Conrad. They must be for the exhibition next weekend at the NEC. Jan did ring to say the were coming, PLUS she will be bringing some cloths and a Jacket over tomorrow, that he has asked for. I don't know if its for next week, or he might be feeling a bit chilly after being in all the heat in Spain. Talk about being pampered. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Was thinking about walking up the football club tonight, but I expect after my dinner I won't feel like it. I can drink before a meal, but not much after one.

I expect our Jane is home safe and sound now, and would have made her re-union with Thomas, I recon he will get spoilt tonight. !!! I bet she will be looking forward to sleeping in her own bed also. It's nice to go away, but much nicer when you get home.

Enjoy the rest of the sunshine, whatever you are doing. xxx
