Pippyn you have just reminded me I need to pick Runner Beans !!!!!! Off down the garden :-D
Lovely surprise to see your Grandaughters, with a nice cake too :-D :-D

Frank Report 20 Aug 2019 16:32

It's only me again.

I have been a good boy and rested this afternoon, my back and legs still ache, but my bottom doesn't feel so sore.

I have just checked on the steps, without going on them and they look fine. I certainly hope they stay cemented in this time. If not, Harvey will have the job of cleaning them off and relaying them. A few years ago I wouldn't have thought twice, about going out and doing jobs like that. Another job I have to do, is fit the door catch back on the fence. It came off in all the wind, when the door was open. and pulled the screws out.

How nice that your G'children came to visit today Pipyn. Do they live far away from you ?? We would love to see more of our Lewis, but what with his "LIFESTYLE" and working, he doesn't have a lot of time for us old folks. lol lol

Ros is out tonight as I said. She has bought me a Cottage Pie to heat up in the oven later. That will suit me, and I have some Prawns that she has bought, if I fancy those later.

Carolyn was telling Ros today, that this exertion they are having done has cost £200,000.00 so far. They still have to carpet and furnish it. This is all because John wanted bigger OFFICE. Not only that, but they have had to move another part of the building down stairs to accommodate the extension. They have also extended up stairs also, making a bedroom bigger and the bathroom, that Carolyn uses. Considering there are only the TWO of them, it does seem a BIG WASTE OF MONEY. They will never stop spending. They are off on a Train trip around South Africa next month, for nearly a month. So GAWD knows how much money they must have. ??? ;-) ;-) ;-) Good luck to them, but I know they are not a very happy couple with each other. So it's true, money dosen't necessarily make you happy. :-| :-| :-|

It has been a nice day today, we can only hope it continues into an INDIAN SUMMER.

Jane

Jane Report 20 Aug 2019 17:05

Glad you have had a good rest Frank :-)

My goodness why on earth is Carolyn and OH spending so much money on the house when it is just the 2 of them!!!!. They have money to waste by the sound of it. But the sound of the train trip in Africa sounds brilliant.

I have just been texting my friend Sue in hospital . I asked if it was ok to ring her. But she can't do without the oxygen mask as her sats will go down. I said I hoped she was being a good patient as I know what a stubborn old so and so she can be :-D

It was Hannah who suggested I send her a text, and it worked :-D

Afternoon All,

What a lovely day! We had decided to make an early start go to Rutland this morning to the nice garden centre with the log burners in the restaurant. As soon as I got up I had to dash with the trots, so we had to wait a while to see how I was. I really wanted to go there, so after a couple more visits to the white friend, I decided to go, with a few precautions like a change of underwear in the boot! We had breakfast when we got there and had a quick look around the indoor area, but things got no better, so I decided to have a quick look at the Garden Rooms outside and come home. Getting any prices from the salesman was like pulling teeth! I told him I couldn't find their prices online, so he said they were updating it. I asked if he could tell me the prices and he started giving me chapter and verse about how it varies, so I cut him short by asking for a basic price on just one to work from. He then brought a brochure over and started chapter and verse again, so I cut him short again, asking if all the details were in the brochure and could I please take one if so because I was in a hurry. At last we escaped. Phew!!

Frank, I know how frustrating it is not being able to do things yourself. Even I laid crazy paving at my old house, but can't do it now as I can't kneel. It is hard waiting to get things done by other people but you must be careful. If you hurt yourself you could end up in a worse state. Like Mel says, don't forget and make sure the cement has hardened before you tread on them. I still think you should get something you could hold onto when you use them. What a shame......another bracelet to go back! Fancy what they sent not being like the picture or matching the description.

The train trip sounds great and it sounds like John and Carolyn are spending plenty on their house to have it how they want. If dad thought someone was wasting money he would say 'they must have money to burn'. I never dared say anything, but It always secretly made me chuckle and look away with it coming from a heavy smoker!! lol.

Jane, your Hannah comes up with some good ideas! :-) How nice for you and your friend to have proper contact that she can manage at the moment. I just had this picture in my head of Chris and Thomas lying on their backs together while you brushed them both to get rid of the garden bits!!

I hope your hubby isn't too sore after having the rest of the broken tooth out Gill. How many people do you have on his tree now, as it isn't long ago that you started doing it but seem to have found plenty already?

Vera it makes all the difference when you get a good speaker with a bit of humour thrown in. It sounds like the talk didn't disappoint and it's great you sailed through your dental checkups.

I've just been and picked some runners and toms and noticed one of the fence panels at the bottom is leaning outwards where some rotten wood has broken so that looks like our next thing to fix.

My split ring pliers came today, so I can finish putting the clasp on that pretty bracelet now. :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Aug 2019 19:17

That was nice to be able to send a text to your poorly friend Jane. What good ideas Hannah has sometimes.

Pippyn your hedge trimmer sounds like something my oh bought lst year. His one is batery operated so he can go anywhere in the garden with it without worrying if he gets the wire in the way and its much lighter to hold than the petrol one. He bought me a little battery strimmer too which is great.

Fancy spending £200,000 on an extension. Most people would buy a house for that much. Whatever job or business does her husband have?

I still can't get my head round this Morrisons shop. It dos'nt matter which way round I go I always forget something. Whilst putting the shopping in the back of the car today I suddenly thought I had'nt bought a lettuce or a pepper for oh's lunches. I had to back back into the shop and get them. There are no bags of grapes anymore only ones in punnetsand all the veg is not in one isle but the packeted stuff in one isle and the loose stuff in another. Its all upside down and backsyfore.

Magpye

Magpye Report 20 Aug 2019 20:18

From what you say Mel, they are the probably the same. OH is changing most of our garden equipment to rechargeable battery models. His big strimmer, chain saw, electric drill! Even our vacuum cleaner is rechargeable. My mower and strimmer are still electric, but its only a matter of time!!!
That's great that you are managing communication with your friend Jane, I'm sure she will be very comforted to know that you are thinking of her!
Money to burn!! You could say! I'd enjoy the African trip though!! OH and I love a train journey, although we haven't had one for a while now :-\
Our granddaughters live about 30 miles away Frank, like you, now they are grownup (nearly!) we don't see anything like as much of them as we used to. The elder one starts University in the autumn with a view to joining the police force, the other is starting at a 6th form college to begin her A levels. She wants to go into medicine, so its going to be a long haul!!

Sun shining here too and I had a slightly better night so all’s right with the world :-D

I don’t have much planned for today but will clean the bathrooms (2 en suites, main bathroom, downstairs loo), and maybe do a bit of gardening or pop into town for a few bits and pieces.

Morning all

Sunny here today and quite warm, I've just been sitting outside having my morning cuppa.

No error page so far today, I had trouble signing in then couldn't get to the end of the thread and when I sent my post nothing happened so I wasn't sure if it had gone through, it was like that for hours so I gave up in the end. I noticed today that my post did go through yesterday but it stayed as I'd typed it in the little box at the bottom, so I thought it hadn't been posted.

OH can't claim compensation Pippyn as he signed a form to waiver his rights, it makes you wonder if anything serious had happened, got forbid he'd of died what would of happened. I always thought if something went wrong like them knocking his front tooth out they would cover the dental costs, but no they don't. Never mind it's done now and he's putting a coat of paint on the bathroom ceiling as we speak. He's using the paint he used outside, it's a smooth white masonry paint, so hopefully it's work and won't flake off with the damp from the bath like the normal emulsion paint does. We've tried all sorts of different paints designed for bathrooms and nothing has worked, he was getting fed up of having to sand it back and repaint it all the time. If this paint can withstand the bad weather it should be okay with a bit of steam........time will tell though.
How lovely to see your granddaughters. That was nice of them to bring cake.

I hope you are less stressed now Mandy, did the patches work on the pool? I hope the police could see who it was from the Church camera's and they have been caught now and punished. That's the thing with insurance, you pay them for years but if you make a claim they expected you to pay more the following year, so basically you'll have paid for the damage yourself eventually through the extra payments to the insurance company, it doesn't seem very fair does it.

I see you've done your steps Frank, hope you're not to achy today. We have the same problems as you where people say they're going to help then don't bother. If we'd of lived closer to you we'd of done the job for you and not let you down. Like Mel said though keep off them until they are set, you don't want them coming loose again. Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having trying to find a nice bracelet for Ros. Did she find one she liked at the shops?

I'm pleased you have been in touch with your friend Jane, at least you know how she is now and can chat via text.

I started OH's tree around 15 years ago Ann then went onto my side of the family, we thought we'd finished his side but then remembered a Will I was given, which is why I started his tree in the first place, and when I took another look at his tree this year I noticed I hadn't finished most of the people on the Will, that's what I'm doing now and between his and my tree we have almost 8000 people now, most of them blood relatives with the exception of a bit from one of his ancestors wife's family.

The reason I did her side is because there is a secret in the family that no one will tell us about and we think it's to do with the children of this couple and that they may of given them to his wife's sisters to bring up. It's still a mystery and most of the people who would of known the story have passed away now so there's only one person left we can ask but unfortunately she has early stages of Alzheimer's.

We think her husband knows the story but whether he'll tell us or not we're not sure. So we may never find out the truth. All we know is this couple moved to New Zealand and he never saw his mum again, he didn't even attend her funeral. The couple were born in the late 1800's and had their children before they left the UK, they married in New Zealand. They both mention two girls who they refer to as their nieces in their Wills but don't leave anything to any of their other nieces and nephews which we found very strange.

Once the woman with Alzheimer's said they had two boys so we know they had two children, but we're sure they were the two girls mentioned in their Wills. I don't know why everyone is so secretive about this couple and their two children, OH would love to know the full story, but like I said no one will tell us. OH's late uncle asked me once if I'd found any children for them and nearly slipped up to tell me something, but kept quiet at the last moment, which has made us want to know more now. Maybe one day she'll tell us the whole story or her husband might.

Good morning fair maidens, xxx

Nice surprise this morning. Door bell rang, it was Parcel Express with a box for me. It was a NEW Qulcast Electric Mower from Harvey. I rang him to thank him and ask how much I owed him. It wasn't a lot of money Dad, so have it on me. He has already paid for the New Boiler. We are determined to pay him for the new shower, when he brings it up tomorrow.

He has had a recall on his Nissan Truck. The chassis's are corroding, to the point that some are collapsing. He will take his in after his holiday. They will clean the truck and check the chassis. If it is bad, they will scrap it there and then, and replace it with a nearly new one, or a 50% voucher off a new one. So watch this space. !!!!

Ros had a pleasant evening last night. They drove out to the Banbury area, and ended up at the Pub that the landlady of our local took over recently. The food was not up to scratch, and a lot of women sent the door back. So we won't be popping in there anytime soon. I was in bed and asleep by the time she got home around 11.00 pm.

We are going to have the rear tyre checked this morning, hopefully it's only a slow puncture that they can repair. Also to B & Q to see if we can get a new washer for the "POP UP PLUG" in the bathroom sink. If not I will have to buy a new one, as this one keeps letting the water seep out.

Ros is ready for the OFF, so see you later. xxxx

Morning all,

We have sunshine too at the mo but there are clouds in the blue sky so we may get some showers today.

I want to pick more blackberries today up the border. They grow in the corner of the west wall and I can't get in there to remove them so make use of them each year and cut back what I can reach.

I shall also go up the top field and pick some nice big cookers (Bramleys) for Di and Emm and some plums if there is any left on the tree that the wasps hav'nt munched.

Pork loin for tonights dinner with homemade apple sauce runners and new pots nice and easy then the apple and blackberry crumble for dessert with custard.

I know Gill that you always have to sign a waiver before any operation but I'd have thought that your OH's situation would have come under negligence and not be subject to the waiver! As you say though, its done now!!
Lovely day here so we shall be in the garden. This evening we're going to supper with friends. They tend to be a bit (very!!!?) political, It should be a bit (very?!!) lively!!!? So that's our day sorted!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Aug 2019 12:46

gill I agree with Pippyn but I also think if it was negilgence you would have to claim it and probably through the small claims court. Maybe a smallish bill is not worth the hassle. Hope this paint works on the ceiling. Does your bathroom get very steamed up then?

Mel, lovely to have Bramleys to pick. My parents had a lovely bramley apple tree that was still going when Dad went into the residential home. It was about 60 years old and still producing apples. Our apples this year are very small and some are going rotten on the tree while not yet ripe.

Vera pleased you had a good nights sleep last night (or a better one). Goodness all those bathrooms to clean. We only have one main bathroom and one cloakroom and this is a 4 bed house. Good job there are only two of us.

Frank hope Ros managed to find a bracelet she likes. Have you checked on Amazon or was that where you were buying from?

Afternoon all,

Nice sunny day and we've been shopping .

The pool patches that Colin put on were holding lovely ,came down this morning looked out the window and the water was down again .......another great big slash under the patch and it looks like they've stabbed at the patch too. :-(
Back on the phone to the police we're given another crime number, not much they could do as he said they carn't get any prints from the wall ,when we came back from shopping there was a message from the police asking us to ring them as they would like to speak to us so we now have an appointment tomorrow evening at half past seven .
We now need to ring the insurance company as there's no way the new slash can be patched

Frank what a lovely surprise having the new mower from Harvey ,i bet you carn't wait ti try it out .

Have you checked CCTV again in the area? Is the wall damaged again. Is there any chance it is a neighbour maybe objecting to the noise of the children in the pool? There are some strange people about.

Have you thought about getting a camera yourselves? They are not expensive on line.

Afternoon all,

Well our day went almost as planned. We went to get te tyre repaired. It was a very small TACK stuck in the tread. He took the tyre off the rim, cleaned all inside, put a sealant round the alloy rim before replacing the tyre, after repairing the puncture of course. He then checked the pressure on the other tyres, All at the great expense of £10.00, lol lol. They are Eastern Europeans, and we always go there for our tyres and any problems. They are so polite as well.

Ros also wanted to go the HOBBY CRAFT. I thought she was buying the shop out, I sat in the car for half an hour with the sun beaming down on me. Not a HAPPY BUNNY. We then went to get some "0" rings to replace the one one the bathroom sink pop up plug. I have fitted a new one, and figures crossed it's holding water now. !!! Onwards to Tesco for a few bits, then lunch in the "COLLINGTREE PUB" Always a good welcome and the food is always fresh and served with a smile.

I have watered the front garden, patio and greenhouse. We must pick some Cherry toms, as there are lots ready to pick.

Mandy, when we had our shop, and having it refitted, we had a spat of breakins. The police set up CAMERA's on a shelf, and left it there recording. It was there for a week or so, but never caught anyone. Why don't you ask if they could assist you it catching whoever is doing this to you. You must be at your wits end. WHAT HORRIBLE PERSON/ or PERSONS. They need to be caught, as quickly as possible. It might be an IDEA to get a demonstration from a security company, for CCTV in the garden. You can always say NO THANKS LATER. !!! It might just work.

The steps are as firm as a ROCK, so I am well pleased with my efforts, even though today I can hardly walk.

No cooking tonight, just a sarnie if we need one. I think a casserole tomorrow will also save me standing at the cooker.

Enjoy your evening PIPPYN (I don't think) lol lol. The rest of you enjoy your evening also.
