Frank, when you come home later, could you bring some of the sun with you please ;-)
and don't forget, the puppies stay in Spain LOL :-D :-D

Pleased to hear of Conrad's success, he does work hard doesn't he.

I buy Christmas presents throughout the year for the same reason's Ros does. It was just a stroke of luck that Sandra found so many things she liked the other day, so I don't need to buy much more for her now. Plus I don't fancy shopping in the cold, damp, or snowy weather nearer Christmas and it takes a long time with all the crowds to. This way it's nice and warm and you can get around the shops easier, with there not being many people around.

You're going to be shattered tomorrow night Frank when you get home, that's a late flight, let's hope they're no delays. Your veg patch should love all this rain and unfortunately the weeds to. We didn't have time before the rain started to weed the front garden so that'll be a job to tackle once the rain stops, it's still raining here and doesn't look as if it's going to stop anytime soon. Luckily OH managed to cut the lawns yesterday morning before the rain started. Unlike the neighbour 2 doors down who only managed half his back lawn before it poured down.

Next door's front garden is flooded so will no doubt go into the neighbours garden on the other side, which won't please him. Because of the new drive being higher than the grass, the rain doesn't come over onto our side, plus the new extension seems to be keeping most of the run off rain water from coming into our back garden. It used to flood at the back but now it's much better, so that's pleased us. :-D :-D

Going to get a cuppa now, then take a look at OH's tree.

It’s been raining heavily here since last night and, according to the forecast, is set to continue till this evening. At least the garden won’t need watering ;-). No sun for a couple of days means it’s cold indoors as well. I think I might have to put a fan heater on. We have underfloor heating and it’s not efficient to keep switching that on and off so it goes on late autumn and stays on full time till we turn it off early summer, but there are times when we just need a little extra warmth so we have a couple of portable electric heaters.

Love the birdie photos Mel. It’s a shame you are back to broken eggs again.

Frank, Roys ARE Wroxham. They seem to own every shop in town. We actually have a branch in our town so we had to laugh - we had sat in a coach for an hour and a half to see Roys when we could have walked a mile down the road to one. For those of you who don’t know Roys is a sort of cross between a cheap department store and a supermarket. Our local one has a fairly limited food range but sells just about everything else.

AnninG, you asked where in Austria we are going. We are going to Vienna for a week, then on to Zell am See for another week. I've had a look at the forecast and it looks as though it could be hot in Vienna but cooler and with a lot of showers in Zell. Of course the forecast is changing all the time anyway so who knows what it will be like by the time we are there.

I’ve done a load of washing this morning and told OH that from today he is not to wear anything he wants to take with him.

Ann, my back is much better thank you. I just need to be a bit careful but otherwise I am fine. OH is also somewhat better though he is still not able to go for his fast morning walk. He is on anti-inflammatory pills until he sees the physio on 5th July. The only earlier appointment they could offer him is while we are away. However he can walk around for most of the day at an average sort of pace so we should be fine on hols.

I can’t remember who said it Gill but they were right about the planning permission for next door’s gate. If a fence or gate adjoins a road with vehicles on it, it mustn’t be more than a metre without planning permission. It it doesn’t adjoin the road it can be up to 2 metres before permission is needed. It’s a shame about your wet patch, at least all this heavy rain has shown you where the problem is so you can deal with it. I hope your sore ear is starting to feel better.

Off now to wash the floor. I know how to have a good time ;-)

good aftenoon all. I will read back later as I see there are a few epistles on here.

We have been to Dobbies garden centre as it had 20% off for members and OH wanted some sand/grip to put some posts in. I got two Sempervrans and an Erigeon, OH got a courgette as the snail ate his and I got a few bits from the food department and saved £7 altogether. Also had out two free coffees for June.

Did half an hour pottering and weeding a bit in the garden when we got back.

AnninGlos Report 8 Jun 2019 14:52

Good job it is only a short flight Frank and you will soon be home after landing. You will be tired on Monday. Safe journey anyway and enjoy your meal tonight.

Vera, I am sure you wil like Vienna. Not been to the other place though so can't comment on that. funny story about Vienna. We had a hire car, parked it in a side road and promptly forgot not only where it was parked but what it looked like. Thank goodness for the number on the key ring. We did eventually find it after training round the area we thought it was in.

Gill, no rain here today, in fact it is sunny at the moment but not that warm. I did manage half an hour in the garden tidying up and weeding the part just outside the door, but it isn't pleasant as everything is so wet. Our lawn needs cutting but it needs to dry our first.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Jun 2019 15:12

We had the fox come across the garden this morning after a rabbit. It stood no chance of catching it but it stopped on the front lawn and then wee'd on it and walked off behind the box hedge.

Went to the hsop and Em's and came home and did lunch. Em told me George was going top have a go at cutting their bottom grass. I can see that from our back and heard the mower going so walked down to have a look. Blow me up the grass drive on the big house land that backs on to us I could see something laying in the grass. Came in and got the camera and it was the fox asleep in a patch of sunshine through the trees. There is such a good lens on my camera I could zoom in to see what it was. I thought it may have been a deer lying there.

I'll send the pics.

Love all the pictures you sent Mel and the ones off you to Vera. Our garden has taken a battering with all the none stop rain we've had over the past 24+ hours, it's finally stopped raining now, but there are a lot of clouds around so it could rain again. At least while it's stopped it's giving the garden a chance to drain a little.

It sounds like you've had a lovely day out AnnG and also been able to do some gardening, I think we'd need waders if we were to venture outside today lol ;-)

Pleased to see your back is much better now Vera, there's nothing worse than a bad back, it stops you doing all sorts doesn't it? Roys sounds a good place, I'd never heard of it before. I like shops that sell almost everything at a good price, unfortunately we don't have anything like that around here.

I've been taking a look at OH's tree and found a few more bits and bobs which I'm in the process of putting on his tree, so that's good. Some days I can be looking and get nowhere, so it's nice to finally find a few things.

I've just had a good look around our place to see if there are any damp patches anywhere and thankfully there's just the one small spot I mentioned before, so as soon as it's dry enough I'll sort that out.

We're hoping the weather improves soon so we can take Sandra to Chester Zoo, before OH has to go for his operation, otherwise she'll have to wait until he's fit enough to drive. The surgeon advised him not to drive for about 10 days to 2 weeks and if we don't go soon, the children will be off for the summer holidays and the Zoo will be packed. Sandra's been ever so good waiting for her shopping and Zoo trips and understands why she's had to wait. I don't think she wanted to go to the Zoo in the rain after last time, it poured down and they had lakes rather than puddles lol. Hopefully we'll have a day of good weather so she can go and enjoy herself.

Afternoon Everyone

My laptop is realy not behaving itself today.I dont know what is up with it. I am still trying to download Mel and Veras photos!!!!.
It has poured with rain almost the whole day but now it has finally stopped and the cat has gone out at last. I had to drive on the A14 this morning and the water on the road and spray from all the cars and lorrries was really quite frightening. I just kept to the one lane and didn't go much over 40mph.

Zell am See looks beautiful Vera .It looks very much like some of the lakes we have stayed at in Italy and France. I'm feeling quite envious. How long are you staying there?

I am surprised you didn't have your gun out again Mel for the Fox :-D. He was lucky to have a little lie down in the sun. Not a sign of that here today.

Frank, you are lucky that Luton Airport is so close to home.Just down the M1 I think .
Are you looking forward to coming home? 3 weeks is quite a long time to be away . Lucky you :-D. You will be as brown as a berry now . I think it might be rain a fair bit next week here .You might want to stay on a bit longer LOL

Gill, you must be so relieved that your garden is no longer getting flooded .But the neighbours on the other side seem to now be getting the water coming through on their side from the new drive.I bet they are pretty pee'd off about that. I hope you have managed to seal the hole where the water is coming in on your window.Good job you noticed the wet wall when you did.

Mandy the security man who had nodded off had a load of boxes of merchandise in front of him and i think that helped him keep upright :-D.. I still can't get over the fact he was actually asleep Maybe he was meditating :-D

Ann,do the bells on your friends cats actually warn the birds? Remember Podge (Fitz's cat) he had 2 bells at one time and not tiny ones either . He still managed to kill everything in sight :-SI think if he even had a Cow Bell around his neck nothing would be safe :-D He even caught Pheasants and Squirrels and managed to drag them through the cat flap !!!.
The main reason we dont have a cat flap into the house is because Thomas is such a big hunter.

Well tomorrow we are off to Cambridge to the Ivy Brasserie. I think I know what I shall have for my main meal. Their Shepherds Pie.I had it once before in London and it was just the best .We shall have to leave here about 11.30 I reckon so I shall have time ot wash my hair in the morning. My scalp is covered in special lotion at the moment as my Psoriasis is bad :-S I daren't wear any dark coloured top as it will end up looking like it has been snowed on :-(. So embarrassing :-S.

I will get back to my emails now and see if I can get get the pics yet from Mel and Vera.

Evening all,

It's been raining here all day ,it's stopped at the moment but the sky still looks really grey ,my poor yellow rose in the back garden is leaning over with all the rain and the lovely white one in the front is leaning over too, it's got so big this year and there are so many flowers and buds you couldn't even count them .

Lovely photo's from Stody Lodge Vera ,it's some where we've never been ,the flowers look beautiful.
We have a Roys and we do get lots of bits from there ,we called in this morning for another grow bag and some bird food ,it's a bit like Wilkinsons i always think but with clothes and shoes .

Oh Mel he's a tatty looking old Fox ,he's got some fur missing on his leg and the fur on his side looks a bit funny too.
Lovely close ups of the birds and flowers in your garden .

So your poor garden has taken a battering then Gill but at least it's stopped now so hopefully it can dry out a bit .
Did i see on the news a few weeks ago that there was a new baby Giraffe born at Chester Zoo ,Sandra will love seeing that .

So your last day tomorrow then Frank it seems to have gone really quick , it will be a late journey home you'll both be ready for bed .
I bet the little pups will really miss you both and will have to get use to being on their own again during the day or is Jan staying on for a while ?
Have a safe journey home .

Ann i'm looking forward to seeing the Beaded Angel you've been making today ,those little stars you made were so pretty i have mine on my key ring .
That was a nice photo of the bumble bee on the Petunia and the flowers in your garden.

AnnG it's surprising how much you can do in the garden in half an hour and that was probably enough if every whee was so wet ,i tend to keep going and then suffer for it the next day .

So it was boxes were keeping him upright then Jane :-D i think i would have to have given a loud cough or some thing just to wake him up LOL ,he might have been meditating or perhaps if he had an ear piece in and was listening in to some thing .
Is it a family meal tomorrow or just the two of you going ?

I carn't see the children going in the pool tomorrow it will be to cold ,Katie is off on Monday with the school for her few days away ,Chelsea had a good time and did all sorts of sports ,DIL unpacked the case and has repacked it with all Katie's stuff .
They have quite a list of all the things they need to take ,lots of water proof stuff and they have to take old clothes i suppose it's in case they fall in :-D

All the photo's came through here Mel.

Yes, I'm relieved the garden isn't so wet now. I haven't sorted the window out yet Jane as it's not long stopped raining and it's to wet, plus I need a brown sealant, I've only got white so it would show against our dark wood frames. I did however have a look at it and the sealant has become lose and come away from the frame in a few places so I think the rain has got in and run down to the corner and through to the inside. There's a big brown mark on our wallpaper now, so I hope it dries out okay. Luckily I still have some of that wallpaper in the loft, so if push comes to shove I'll put another piece of paper on the inside of the window area once I've sorted the sealant out. The sun has just come out and is shinning on the damp wallpaper, so hopefully it'll help to dry it out quicker.

Just watching a programme on the Titanic, they are saying there was a fire on board which might of been part of the cause of it sinking, as it weaken the side it hit the iceberg on. The fire was below decks and was still burning when it set sail.

Morning Mel and all,

We are still here Mel, We fly home tonight 10.00 pm Spanish time. Harvey will be at Luton to takes us back to his house, we will transfer our luggage to our car and should be home before 1.00 am. We can empty the car tomorrow.

We had a lot of wind here yesterday, at one time I thought it was GALE FORCE. Where the pups are outside, there is a big umbrella that can be put up if the sun gets to hot. Yesterday afternoon we had a gust of wind, that took the umbrella out of it's base and took t up onto the roof of the villa. We sat and wondered what the hell it was. Conrad had to get ladder to retrieve it, and pass in down to ground level.

We went for a drive out at 4.00 pm We stopped at two coffee/bars but both were closed. Conrad said they won't be busy for a couple of weeks when the holiday makers start to arrive. We ended up at 6.30 at a lovely Indian Restaurant. We had a table just inside behind a big side window. We ordered our drinks, and when the waiter bought them to the table, Conrad, thinking he was being helpful, took Ros's bottle of Pineapple juice and shook it, to dispurse the sediment from the bottom of the bottle, Unbeknown to him the waiter had loosened the top, as he shook it, the contents went all over the table, window, and his shirt, making a right old mess. He was so apologetic to the waiter, who just smiled and cleaned the table and window. I remarked "I bet thats the first time the window has been cleaned with Pineapple Juice" the waiter found it very funny and had a good laugh.

We arrived back home around 10.00 pm after a very enjoyable meal. I said goodnight and went in for a read, Conrad and Jan also went to bed, leaving Ros to watch her programme about Gems and Jewellery making. I was asleep by the time she came to bed.

This morning, we have started packing the cases, and sorting out what to wear for the journey home. From what you are saying, it could be cold, and wet by the time we land. :-P :-P :-P

I'm packing all my things away now into my Computer bag, so will say BYE for now. See you back in Blighty tomorrow. xxxx

Morning all

Same sort of weather here, alternate sun and cloud. It’s warmer than yesterday. I’m sitting in the conservatory with a cup of tea watching all the bees buzzing around some clumps of tall purple salvias.

Enjoy your meal in Cambridge Jane. Is the Ivy Brasserie good? We go to Cambridge from time to time so might try it sometime. Do you need to book?

Enjoy your last day and have a good journey home Frank.

We usually have a roast on Sunday but today I’ve put a large casserole in a slow oven and it will do for two days so that’s dinner sorted. Now going to do some ironing and then, if I have time and it’s not raining, I plan to tidy up the garden a bit more.

Edit: Forgot to answer your question Jane. Stody Lodge is at Melton Constable in Norfolk, not far from Holt. It’s privately owned and they open the gardens for charity on several days during May. Worth a visit if you are in the area at the right time of year.

Afternoon all

Lovely and sunny here but the garden is to wet to do any work today, so I've just had a lovely soak in the bath and I'll be dishing up the Sunday roast soon, then we'll settle down for the afternoon and catch up with some programmes I've recorded. I'll also take another look at OH's tree now I'm finally getting somewhere with it.

Safe journey home tonight Frank. Yes, don't forget Ros's bracelet it's quite a way to go back and get it. You'll have your two new shirts when you get home.

Enjoy your time in Cambridge Jane, hope you have the sun like us and it doesn't rain. I've just checked the weather for the coming week around here and it's going to pour down everyday starting tomorrow. At least OH and I had a chance to sit outside this morning with our cuppa's.

It was lovely watching the birds this morning, one Blackbird was sunning himself on our water feature (it was switched off) then he went to the bottom where the pool of water is and had a good wash for about 10 minutes. Another bird was on our fence but seemed to jump onto something on the other side of the fence then jump back again, it was only a few inches below our fence so OH and I wondered what it was. OH got his ladders and we had a look over the fence only to find next door has put a shed there. OH's concerned the cats might jump off his shed roof onto the bird feeder, so we'll have to keep an eye out and move the feeder down if necessary. I don't mind the shed being there as now it'll stop the wind blowing the fence back and forth, although also I'm concerned about the safely of the birds.

We were wondering where the new shed was, OH saw it being delivered the other day and we couldn't work out where he'd put it, now we know. At least he won't be attaching anything to the fence now the shed is in the way, so it's worked out great for us. Plus the rain will run off the roof as it slants towards our fence, and will water our plants as it soaks into the ground. His shed is about 4 inches away, so the rain shouldn't dribble down our fence. :-)

Afternoon All,

Dare I say it......lovely sunshine just now..........but I know we are due a lot more rain! So Frank is soon to be on his way home. His stay in Spain seems to have gone by so quickly. He'll not be bare chested and in his shorts the next few days here judging by the forecast! :-) Conrad seems to do well in his work and certainly puts the hours in when needed.

Lovely pics Mel and Vera. Those baby birds are so sweet and the fox does look a bit mangy, just like the one we saw in Cornwall. Vera I have loved Rhododendrons since I was a little and mum used to take me with her to work at a big house that had a long drive with them each side and all down the middle. It was the dowager duchess house on the Wolseley Hall estate in Staffordshire. I have made a note of Stody Lodge to visit in case we go to Norfolk in the future. That's good both of you are improved enough to enjoy your holiday.

Mandy, we nearly didn't get to the beading workshop yesterday as the road under a bridge was flooded and the water quite deep. I didn't know of another route so just kept going slowly, hoping the little lurch was my foot on the clutch or accelerator and not some water being sucked into the engine! We were told another way to go when we left as it had been raining all day and the water would have been even deeper! I think the beaded angels won't be finished for quite a while!! lol Their gowns had little stars and my pale green ones didn't show up at all really and I went wrong so had to undo a lot. My friend who is very fast and always miles ahead of me had to undo hers twice and start again. She ended up with spotlights each side of her to see the holes in her beads. It was a nice friendly group though, and of the ones we chatted to, one was a magistrate, one had travelled a lot with a husband in the military and one was working in pain management. We had both brought very healthy packed lunches with fruit to eat........then succumbed to some delicious cake and trifle! The cakes were like larger butterfly cakes, very moist with real cream under the lids and lemon curd in the middle.....yum yum. My friend had some of the apple and raisin cake too. We did resist the biscuits, nibbles and choccies though. One of the ladies is sending me a pattern for the beautiful bracelet she was wearing. I think it will take me weeks to make it but will be well worth it. We also bought some more beads from their studio in the garage as I want to decorate a little tree with the stars next Christmas.

Fancy that man falling asleep standing Jane! You'd think he would fall over. I hope you have a nice meal in Cambridge. Is it another occasion, or just a nice meal together? I watched Killing Eve, but wondered if it was a good idea just before trying to get to sleep!

Gill, it sounds like the new neighbour's alterations are working to your advantage with stopping the flooding of your garden and the shed roof watering your plants! At least you needn't worry about your fence either now. Is Sandra still enjoying helping with cooking and the Sunday roast? She was doing very well with it last time you mentioned it.

The neighbour the other side of the road and next to the end where the security gate is has now put bollards across the end of his drive. They are ones you lift out and are black and bright yellow. That's going to be a pain for us now with the problem moving to our driveway.

Good afternoon. I have put a few more pics on the blog as I wanted the before and after photos of the handrail OH had put up by the steps. This we have done for two reasons. The main one is for us as we get older I think we will need something there. When I hut my foot I felt very vulnerable coming down the steps. The second reason is because of the gardening group meeting here, none of us are young and I would hate somebody to fall, they do like to have a wander round the garden.

Gill I have a vision of your OH's head popping over the fence to meet the eyes of the new neighbour. Good job he was not out in the garden. At ;east with a house it is easy to be nosey!!!
Hope you enjoyed lunch, we have gammon today but not until this evening. I have just cooked some rhubarb from the garden so that is pud with ice cream.

Jane hope you had a lovely lunch. did you get your shepherds pie? Hope it didn't rain if you were not taking a jacket. It has been a lovely warm sunny day here today. Dreading it raining Tuesday as we are going to Cardiff with the U3A. Half will be walking but the other half will be in Cardiff town and probably Castle/museum.

Vera, did you get any gardening done today. I did plant 9 petunias that we got on the reduced shelf for just under £3. They are really healthy so don't know why they were reduced, purple ones. I also did a bit of weeding, cutting and tidying. We are really pleased with how the garden is looking at the moment but if it rains hard it will be spoilt for the garden group on Thursday.

And Mel too, did you get your gardening done?

Annx the angels sound as if they might be complicated but worth doing when finished I am sure. And now you have another project, the bracelet!!

Hope Frank has a good journey home. Never did find out exactly where the villa is. We would be out there now if we'd gone the same weeks as the last two years.

When I opened my shed this morning to get the bantams bowl out there was a dead baby Blue Tit in it. I must have shut it in there over night not realizingit was in there so I shall have to make sure tonight there's nothing in there. Poor little mite. I felt bad after that.

We had lunch and then oh went in the tub and its been sunny all afternoon. I just can't seem to get into anything. I have some begonia's to pot up but that means going right up the top to the stable where all my pots are. I brought some down a while ago but must have used them all. Soppy date. :-S
