Have a great time Catie. As you say your BIL will be fine. The lady next door sounds like she is very helpful if needed.
Well I got all the ingredients for the Scotch Broth except for one thing.Unsalted butter!!!.Not sure why I need it but there must be a good reason ,so off I go again lol

Fiona ,I hope you have managed to get rid of the pong. That sour milk smell is awful.

Still a Blood# auful day here. Wind and rain. Thinking of putting the heating on for an hour, feels horrible sitting around, Not cold, but feel I need a little extra comfort.!!!! What do you say Jane. !!!

When that cat Email came up. I clicked on something and have now got that site as a permanant fixture. Does anyone know how to get rid of it. I like my old google home page, Now I get a waiter coming on the page, and saying "YOUR MAIL SIR" then walks off screen.

Mel, Not good news for OH. When Ros's mum was dying with the big C. I had gone out, and Ros had to move her Mum. She slipped a disc, and had 4 operations since, and still suffers with a permanent bad back. Hope he is allright, also that Mum is improving.

Enjoy your weekend away, Catie. and try to enjoy yourself, the problems will be there when you return.

Frank Report 1 Oct 2010 14:09

Mel,
you will have to tie him down, to that thing your neighbour offered to take him to the doctors in. That will keep him quite !!!!!

Morning All,

Windy as well as wet now. No getting on with the garden today which my back will be grateful for. lol OH managed to bang his head on the rotary line again yesterday....he never learns!!

Oh dear Mel. Your poor OH, these things are so easily done, but take a while to mend. I had to laugh at the thought of him in a cattle crate though. He could do the ironing sitting down if he can't mow the lawns??? Help......I'd better run if he hears that!! lol

Have a nice weekend Catie, you deserve a break. I'm sure your BIL will be ok for that short time.

Yes that e-mail was very clever Frank. If you type 'google' in the the top bar where you type in sites one of the headings that comes up is 'Set Google as your home page'. I think if you click on that heading you should be able to put it as your home page again. Sounds like poor Ros had a rough time with her back.

Fiona, our local library runs those kinds of class too. When I used to use their computers, I was tempted to join in the singing!! lol 'The wheels on the bus.......lol The little ones faces were a picture, they really loved it.

Jane, mum used to make lovely scotch broth with barley in it. Just the thing for a day like today. Has Hannah started her London job now then?

OH got the other job too as a school governers' clerk. Now he has to do some training for that, next week.

I've been to the docs for my annual blood test for my underactive thyroid this morning, then straight for my flu jab at Sain*burys, cheaper this year at £8.50 and includes swine flu.

We are off to see Made in Dagenham at the flicks later......and some scrummy icecream.

Jane Report 1 Oct 2010 15:32

Was that a proposition Frank ? lol.You are just after my Scotch Broth I think.Which is smelling good simmering away on the hob.
I had to leg it down the garden in the wet to pick a Bay Leaf.

Mel ,poor OH.That is a nasty injury. He may no be mowing those lawns for a while yet!! Is he still going to be able help you lifting your Mum if needed?

Ann ,no Hannah won't start her job until November sometime .She has gone with things to do with her CRB checks and to meet up with a friend tonight. She is back tomorrow. She isn't handing her notice in until she has the contract for the new job.
Your OH is going to be so busy with all these jobs he is getting lol

it is a vegetable scotch broth I am doing. It'll be nice with some crusty bread for lunch tomorrow.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Oct 2010 15:51

Then it can't be scotch broth if there is no lamb in it. It will be veg and barley broth.

Jane

Jane Report 1 Oct 2010 16:01

It calls it Scotch Broth Mel..vegetable scotch broth,a sustaining Scottish speciality, this meat-free version makes a warming meal for cooler days.(It's a Wait**** recipe).I just had a little taste and it is good. The only thing I'm not sure about is the texture of the mushrooms that are in it.
Just going to make a cuppa.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Oct 2010 16:04

I think it has just stopped raining. How nice, think I will go and corn the chickens whilst it's dry.

The baby ones and their mum are still shut in with the other two at the moment. Still have'nt moved their arc away so they can't see it.

Jane

Jane Report 1 Oct 2010 18:11

Mel! I think you have pushed your rain up here.It is hammering it down now. There is a Robin right up to it's middle in the bird bath. It's having a right good old time lol

Evening all,
Been raining here on and off all day ,feels cooler so we have the heating on ,hubby has had a day at home,he was rained off again ,the family came for coffee this morning and Jake wanted to stay so have been busy trying to keep him amused ,we took him home about three thirty .

Mel ,your poor OH ,that sounds painful !!! can you borrow some Sheep to help mow the lawns !!! lol

Fiona, there's nothing worse than the smell of sour milk!! a friend spilt some in her car boot ,in the winter and she cleaned it up, but when the summer came it was really bad !!! took a lot of scrubbing to get rid of the smell!!

I'am knitting myself a scarf with some of that Can Can wool ,it knits up all frilly ,it's quite pretty in two shades of Purple, little Chelsea saw it and wants a pink one, Jake didn't want to left out he asked if i could knit a Rainbow one !!!

Doesn't Chester eat the spiders Jane? Cats do don't they........just thought....he can't get those on the ceiling. lol

Well the film was very good.....about the Ford factory women who went on strike for equal pay in the 60s. We just got home before a deluge of rain, huge puddles in the garden now.

You're making my mouth water Shirl and Jane.

Jane

Jane Report 1 Oct 2010 19:41

I think I heard that Mandy.I have put the conkers in the corner of windowsills.
Oh well Shirl it is a mock Scotch broth lolol.Very tasty though.Chris has just has a bowl full, and is now too full to eat his dinner lolI think that will be about 9pm now.
Can I freeze this broth 'cos there is so much.Or will it come out too sloppy when defrosted?

Jane

Jane Report 1 Oct 2010 19:47

Ann ,Chester eats flies ,but never seems to see spiders
Wasn't there a book or programme called THE ICE HOUSE which was a murder thing ?

Shirl I think Sheila may have already gone to Wales.
Ann what was the Robin Williams film like the other day?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Oct 2010 19:49

Mum ate four out of the eight grapes I gave her. she has had a cup of tea and a rich tea biscuit and a glass of water and a bowl of lime jelly and , she tells me 10 choc buttons. I had bought them to put on cup cakes and just took them in to her and gave her one and the packet. She was watching the telly so I thought she may not realise how many she had eaten. Oh anything she will eat I will give her!!! I also gave her a double finger of a ham sandwich of which she ate three quarters!

Going back to fridge smells. Mine stunk on Monday and I thought is smelled like a mouldy lemon. Had the whole lot out salad draw and all but no mouldy lemon to be found. Still smelt awful.

Got the strawberry jam out the other day and there lurking behind it in the door was half a lemon wrapped in cling film and completely GREEN with mold!!!!!!! Fridge dos'nt smell any more.................................................. i had'nt done the door!!! thought there was only jars in it.
