Morning Everyone.
Frank I never get nightmares (well not from those books )lol
It is such a lovely morning.Have had a nice walk in the warm sunshine.I think we must make the most of it before that dratted rain returns.
Chris has been and come back from Waitr***,so I better go and have a look to see if he has bought anything interesting.I know he got sprouts lol

The sun is with us today, what a difference a day makes as it was dismal yesterday.

Sheila.... I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. My thoughts are with you all at this time. The days ahead will be tough and I hope you will be able to help each other through them.

Mel... Hope your mum is managing to eat and she's feeling a little brighter and stronger. Hope you are well too .

Well... I wish all the xmas goodies weren't stacked up high in the shops. It really winds the kids up.... they get so excited with it all. The excitement they feel is wonderful.... but when it starts in September... a bit too much I think.

Just back from the girls Harvest Festival which was held in the school hall. Gosh, never seen so many tins and packets. When I was at school I can remember seeing lots of fresh produce and used to take in apples from our garden. We then packed it into baskets and boxes for the elderly. The girls were told to contribute tins or packets only and everything collected will be given to a hostel for the homeless. The Assembly was lovely..... One of the children was 'the sun' and the rest of the class were the wheat and corn growing.... this was set to a little poem. Ahhh it was a real treat to watch them all.

Well.... must attend to my duties lol

Cloudy again here and it has either been raining or we have had a frost. It turned really cold last night but I did'nt turn the heating on as mum was warm enough in bed.

I think David must be like the Queen now and have two birthdays a year!! Call yesterdays one Davids Birthday and the next one his official Birthday. Lol..............

Must admit I never checked my list.

Can't remember if I said the doc called yesterday and he said I could pick up a prescription for mum to stop her retching. She had had these tablets before and they worked.

OH put her HUGE telly in her bedroom yesterday so she can see her soaps. She has it on her dressing table. Proped her up on pillows and she watched it for ages. It must be so boring when you are in bed with nothing to do.

Catie the girls Harvest Festival sounded really nice with the sun and the corn. What a good idea.

I always took cooking apples from our garden to the harvest festivals at school. Dad would always find me the biggest ones and mum would polish them up till they shone so much you could almost see your face in them. Our stuff used to go to the old people.

When we have our Harvest here at our little church, ( which is this Sunday) we have a harvest supper in the village hall afterwards and the produce and things given are auctioned off to the villagers in the hall and the money given to a chosen thing or charity to do with the church.

I usually do a big arch to go over the church door and help with the flowers etc. but not this year as I have too much to do with mum. I shall cut some bright yellow Rudbeckia daisy's I have in the garden though and take them to church for the other girls to use. All the flower arrangements are sold off also. When we had the veg garden up and running I used to do a huge display under the pulpit of every kind of veg that we grew. I also had a big wheatsheaf that I made out of the corn that greww in the field behind us. I still have it but it is buried in junk in OH's study!!

I think Harvest Supper is this weekend too Mel,although I don't go.
I remember struggling to primary school with my box of goodies for Harvest Festival.It was quite a long walk too.
I always think packets and tins aren't quite the same as fresh fruit and veg,but thinking about it ,it is probably more practical,and will last longer.
DID YOU HAVE TO HAVE TISSUES THIS MORNING CATIE???

My computer is making that whizzy noise.I think it is the fan.It was doing it all the time yesterday and now again.I hope it suddenly doesn't pack up on me.
If I disappear that is what will have happened.

I am doing a meal never done before.It is a joint ofBelly Pork with green tomatoes ,lime juice and coriander powder.Lord knows what it will turn out like.I discovered just now that there are very few green tomotoes left on t he plants,so I may have to see if my neighbour has any spare.I have to cook the pork for between 3 and 4 hours !!!

We are off for a walk down the canal soon, then in the garden moving more rocks! lol Gorgeous sunshine here.

I enjoyed the Kibworth programme again and my friend's surname Coleman came up in the 1200s. The programme before it on the history of churches was fascinating too. Last week they showed a rude gargoyle!! lol

My friend's pony has had her foal, but sadly born dead......what a shame.

Good idea to wrap the chocs Frank, but I think if I was tempted enough they would get unwrapped again!! lol

Mel I would liked to have seen your displays in the church......you are very talented.

Lovely sunny day here, but sharp with frost this morning,
Mel your harvest festival flowers sound lovely and its sounds nice that living in a small country viliage everyone helps for the harvest service , you seem to know everyone around you.
Living in a town you get to reconise people who you see in the streets who live near by, but I only know 1or2 people in the next street. I see faces but don't know there names and have never spoken to them even though I have lived in the same house for 20 years.

Frank. I Wish going to bed was as easy as that, if OH is at home, I leave the locking up and turning big lights off up to him,
Sometimes he's in bed before me and I came up stairs before him.
he never remembers to turn the computer of at the end of the day because he uses his laptop, , I clean my teeth before I go to bed as I can't stand the yucky taste next morning,
If I have been out during the day I have to take off my make up
AM I RIGHT LADIES, OH just gets into bed closes his eyes and he's off LOL

Catie, Glad you enjoyed the girls Harvest festival show.
A couple of years ago when I still worked at the childrens nursery we used to put little concerts on for the parents etc at christmas times, summer times and harvest.
We held them in the church, as the nursery was run from one of the church hall.
The children loved performing in front of an audeince and the mums & dad's and granny's were so thrilled to see their little one up there singing and dancing.
I feel it is very important for pre-school children to do this sort of thing, it helps to build confidence and to learn to work together as a team

Hi Fiona.... Working with the children must have been a lot of fun - hard work too. It's so lovely to go and watch the little ones perform and as you say, the children themselves gain so much for doing these little plays and productions.
You are right Fiona.... How come the MEN fall right off to sleep amd We Ladies struggle to fall off. lol

Jane.... Yes, I took the tissues and if you had been there I would have been sharing them with you :)

Mel, you sound as if you have a lovely sense of community where you are. Fiona is right, living in a town or city is so very different. I think it's lovely the way you all come together and produce flower displays etc.
When I was young I lived in a small village and 'everyone knew everyone'. The trouble is they also knew 'everything' about 'everyone' lol

That's the shopping done for another week. I must start writing lists, have forgotten milk and butter so will have to pop in again somewhere, I bet I end up buying more now.

You're right Fiona, it takes me more time to get ready for bed than to get ready to go out. I always go around everywhere pulling plugs out, checking doors are locked, then a good 15 minutes cleaning my teeth and cleansing face etc. half an hour read and lights out. If I'm not asleep within 20 minutes I will be lying there for hours trying to get off. I don't think we ever switch off, always thinking what's to done the next day, meals etc.

Maureen,Chris is asleep within minutes once he is in bed.My sister is the same ,she just shuts her eyes and she is gone lol.I don't know anyone quite like that.
I read my book,and wonder what to do for dinner the next day and then sometimes my mind just won't switch off at all,and I find myself thinking of all sorts of weird things.Lord knows where they come from.Then in the morning I wake and often the first thing I say to Chris is "What do you fancy for dinner".His answer is normally a groan and says he can't possibly think about that now.He will leave it to me lol
That Belly Pork is roasting away.Anyone fancy the crackling???It will only go in the bin here.

That's what I would probably do if I wrote a list Jane. Dinner sounds mouth watering, although I will pass on the crackling. Will have salad AGAIN, do a jacket potato filled with tuna fish and sweetcorn. I am getting a bit fed up with salads though, have lost a little more weight, but that might be more due to all the digging and lifting I've been doing in son's garden.

I'm going to tidy up the front now, a few dead plants in pots and a shrub, don't know what it is, we brought it back from Spain one year just grows wild, tried to get rid of it once, dug almost down to the foundations but it still keeps coming back year after year. Very disappointed with the sweet pea, had a few measly flowers and that's it, so will pull that out, but a thunbergia I planted in a pot out there last year has flowered nicely. Must have re seeded itself. BBL

Well I have some crackling crackling ,and a black bottom lol.It stuck to the foil.But in between looks lovely and tender.You should have seen Chris's face when he saw the black !!It smells yummy,but all the green tomatoes have dried up.I needed bigger ones really and more off them,but never mind.I have tried.Honestly I have ! I bet my roast potatoes will be perfect.

They will be Jane if you follow Frank's advice and bake them in really hot goose fat. I bet he'll have something to say about your black bottom too ...lol ....

Not in the mood for gardening, did go out and mutilate the shrub but can't be bothered to do anything else.

Hark at old "BIG HEAD" about her Roasts. I've got a roast half leg of lamb in the oven, smells devine. with Rosemary anhd garlic. ROAST CRISPY POTATOES (mine are to die for), Runner beans, peas, carrots and broad beans. and brussels, first this autum. Bestest gravy with mint sauce in it., and mint jelly on the plate,
Must get out and put the rest of the bulbs in tomorrow. Have been sitting in the conservatory, each day, reading my books. The latest is "Voices from the HOME FRONT" by Felicity Goodall. Stories from people during the Second War.

Might pop back later if I don't get stuck in front of TELE.

Ros has just treated me to 1/2 dozen J P Chenet Red Wine. 25% of 6 bottles. I'll be allright for a few nights. Hic Hic. !!!

You and Me are going to have a competition with our Roast Potatoes Frank lol

As soon as I mentioned Black Bottom I knew who would make a comment !!!!!!!
Chester has just had a little taster of the pork and he said it is DIVINE.
