Find Ancestors

I now have Mary Anns birth certificate and her mother maiden name was Weir and also have her marriage cert and one of the witnesses was her sister Alexandriana Hyatt which was mary anns sister.

I hope that someone will now be able to help me find possibly births for mary anns parents notcied on her cert her fathers name is Alexander George but on mary anns marriage although he was deceased he just uses George and not Alexander??

Mary Ann probably only knew her father's name as George as he seems to have dropped the Alexander.

There is a birth on scotlandspeople for an Alexandrina Anderson in 1879 in Bo'ness but she is with her parents in Scotland in 1881.

No luck yet find a marriage for Alexander Anderson and Mary Weir

According to a tree on Ancestry the Mary Ann in the baptism safc posted emigrated to Canada with her parents in 1840.

Hello Potty this cannot be my mary then can it that safc because she certainly didnt emigrate to Canada do you think that they could have possibly married in London then??and not scotland

Might be an idea to look up the 1871 census for George/Alexander Anderson and Mary Weir living back in Scotland. Either as a married couple or single people.

See if they might have been married at that point. They seem to be of a fair age when the two girls were born .. as already mentioned.

I don't have access to Ancestry or I'd have a look.

Had a look for a marriage in England on freebmd ... and nothing's coming up for the names mentioned.

I wonder if this Mary. I can find her on all the censuses from 1841 to 1871 but not in 1881. Stralachlan is about 13 miles from Kilmun, which she seems to have given as her POB on one of the censuses:

scotlandspeople has two births for Alexandrina Weir in Glasgow in 1876:

These two both seem have Mary as a second name. It might be worth looking at the images to see who the parents are.

As I said before Alexandrina also Alexandriana and also has been spelt Alexandria???? Its proving a little bit of a mystery and STILL NO marriage for them??

I have told Susan by PM that I will post all the previous censuses for Mary Weir. I have also suggested that she look at the two births for Alexandrina in 1875. I have a feeling they refer to the same person and if she is shown as illegitimate and the daughter of Mary Weir, she could be the Alexandrina we are looking for.

Cannot find Alexandrina b1876 Glasgow on the 1881 Scotland census nor can I find a death for her in Scotland between 1876 and 1881.

Hi Potty there will not be a death for her inScotland because she was in England and someone found a marriage for her in 1901 she married a William Hyatt and thery were both witnesess at Mary Anns wedding in 1901 I have that on the marriage cert that I have just purchased.

Sorry to have confused you Susan.

I know your Alexandrina died in England. When I found the above birth(s) for an Alexandrina Weir, I then looked for her on the Scottish census (to eliminate her) but I could not find her; then I looked for a death and could not find that either.

So, there was an Alexandrina Weir born about the same time as your Alexandrina (whose mother, from the birth cert of her sister, was Mary Weir) who then "disappears" from Scottish records. That is why I wonder if those births could be your Alexandrina and suggested that you look at those birth registrations on Scotlandspeople. If she was illegitimate and her mother was Mary Weir, we have probably found your Alexandrina's birth and possibly George and Mary never married.

Hope things are clearer now.

Re your PM, I would prefer to keep posting to this thread, rather than use PMs, as it keeps all the info together.

Have you bought credits on scotlandspeople yet?

Hi Potty have looked on Scotlandspeople and you are right those 2 births are one of the same child Alexandrina Mary Weir. The image showed me that she was illegitimate born on JUne 4th at 49 Richard Street Glasgow born to Mary Weir a Domestic Servant then it says Mary Campbell Mother?
