Thank you so much, Brummiejan. Unfortunately it's not helping me find my missing person but at least it's ruled another path out. I'm struggling with her (May Brian) on several fronts. Only appears in 1911 census born 1890. Can't find birth, no trace of any Brian siblings and no marriage to my Grandfather (Gordon Simmonds) around 1916/17. Her Mother appears to be of Irish origin. Boy, this hobby drives you nuts!

once again thanks
M

Have you tried Irish 1901 just in case they are over there?

Marion

Marion Report 8 Mar 2011 15:31

MAY BRIAN is the missing one. Can't find her birth, marriage to my Grandfather Gordon Simmonds (1917/18ish) siblings or Census records for 1901.
According to 1911 census her mother comes from Ireland (anecdotal info we had from family) - it should read Co Tyrone Ireland Five Mile Town!

Marion

Marion Report 8 Mar 2011 15:32

I thought the young Kathleen in the 1901 might be her sister.

National archives have transcriptions of 1901 and 1911 Irish census:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

I don't know about irish research otherwise. Just one thought - have you tried O'Brian?

Have tried Kathleen (the mother) and May under Brian and O'Brian but nothing.
Have you ever heard a more Irish name than Kathleen O'Brian? I don't think so.............but can't find anything. I'm not even searching for just Co Tyrone but a general search. This is so frustrating.

That 1901 might be them you know - "Catherine" is a laundry washer, same as May in 1911.

Well worth looking into. Thanks Jan. Not a spelling I've come across so far. Will have a good look. This feels GOOD!!!

Marion

Marion Report 8 Mar 2011 18:20

Like I said - it feels right!! Will pursue this for sure. (Now I'm sounding Irish!) So far I've had 3 different spellings of her name. Father's birth cert says she was Brian. His brother's cert she's down as Bryan and now you've thrown this into the mix! Oh, what fun.

Trouble is, I guess the spelling is down to the census takers interpretation. I will not give up!
