....but why would someone who doesn't like dark or humour above that of a six year old deliberately visit a thread that was advertised as such?

Allan

Allan Report 5 Aug 2017 00:36

MrMagoo tried it once not so long ago with inevitable results :-D

maggiewinchester Report 5 Aug 2017 00:54

:-D :-) :-( :-0 :-| :-P :-\ ;-) :-S

Why?

If I see 'click bait' on the internet that I don't fancy - I don't bl**dy click on it!!!!

Allan

Allan Report 5 Aug 2017 01:03

There is no reason, except, talking as six year olds,....because! :-D :-D

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Aug 2017 01:04

MrMagoo did do a thread along the lines of "Don't read this if".....and it was RR and pulled.
Some people like to be a Mary Whitehouse on speed it seems.

Hmm....well brief history of the threads this past day or so.......
Sharron made a comment about a funeral she'd attended adding some humour albeit factual information.
The itchy finger struck again deeming us in need of the moral high ground.

The complaint was in many's opinion "legless" and was rather "gay" brightening up the boring threads.

Allan

Allan Report 5 Aug 2017 06:26

I'm often legless :-D

The gay word?

Shock! Horror! :-0 :-D :-D

Poor Sharron, I fear another thread may be RR'd :-(

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Aug 2017 11:57

But Allan I merely mentioned how gay as in happy it was for such a sad occasion :-D

Sue

Sue Report 5 Aug 2017 12:36

I read this thread last night. I'm pretty sure I read that Sharron had pulled the thread herself.

I don't see anything this morning.

Sharron have you edited or was I' seeing things.'?

I must admit when I first read it I was a bit surprised and as the lady only just died thought it a bit' off''.

However, knowing Sharrons sense of humour, from past threads, I knew she didn't mean it in any way to be nasty.

Way back I used to post jokes from the likes of Lenny Bruce. They were always referred plus I got two banning warnings.

I doubt it is any "itchy finger" referring stuff but rather Gr/fmp staff. DC Thompson are well known as publishers of "the People's Friend" and have made several public statements in Dundee making it clear that they have a v trad policy standpoint. The nearest thing they have to running through wheatfields is "the Beano".

It is their moderated board. Posters should consider company policy. There are plenty other places to post. IMHO it is a bit like skooldays seeing how far you can push the line.

Hey ho

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 5 Aug 2017 13:09

Where do you get the idea from that the boards are moderated, Rollo? If that was the case, the thread would have been pulled without a RR showing.
The only 'moderating' is done by the members. Even then it's been known for a post to remain as 'reported' for days on end until Support get round to reviewing it.

Caroline Report 5 Aug 2017 13:28

The original thread was RR by someone for whatever reason, then before Genes could pull it Sharron did as it became a thread about moral high grounds it seems.
The general feeling is whilst being aware there have to be guidelines, it has rather become a case of someone deciding what we as adults can find funny. As we said the humour in her thread was factual.

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Aug 2017 14:42

Sorry...this moral high ground has got to my head.....Sharron did a thread based on factual albeit humorous information....it got RR.....Genes pulled it.....Sharron did a thread to say it's been pulled....that attracted the moral high ground so Sharron pulled it...then did this thread to say she'd pulled it I assume before it could be RR too...but this has started to get moral high ground again and many of us feel as adults we can decided whether to read humour comments or not.

I agree, Caroline :-)

Rambling Report 5 Aug 2017 14:56

Only if you want to misinterpret what was said, which can't now be looked at of course!, as someone (me?) taking the "moral high ground". I and the only other poster I saw posting suggested reasons why someone 'might' have reported it.

I can't say of course why the reporter reported, nor can anyone else it's just a guess based on years of life lol ...maybe they just don't think you should make comments about the recently dead? that's an old thing but it doesn't actually make it taking the "moral high ground" does it?

Certainly the internet has changed things, because now a post about a person's life or death can remain visible for generations to come... maybe that is a good thing, maybe it's not...I'm not sure I would particularly like my good friend to drag over my flaws on GR when I'm dead .. what's put online is possibly going to be there for generations.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 5 Aug 2017 15:04

Take a look at the People's Friend website. It has pdf policy documents for all sorts of things except humour. The granite north of Scotland wouldn't recognise humour even if hit over the head by a large wet halibut. I have never understood how DCT came to own the Beano or the murdered Dandy.

Whether you are an adult sassenach or not is of little relevance. They (DCT) know what their readers like or don't like and that includes Web sites.

For whatever reason Dundee cake and a generous wee dram go very well together.

Rambling Report 5 Aug 2017 15:04

add

I don't care what anyone reads or doesn't, whether they find it funny or not... some like Frankie Boyle's sharper style of comedy, some prefer... I don't know, Michael Mcintyre?

but if either of the above offend or upset someone with a joke or comment, don't they just move on. Not everything gets a laugh.

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Aug 2017 15:20

How dead does one have to be I wonder before mention can be made in any humorous context..in this case it really wasn't the dead person per say...Sharron commented on the two strong sons being smart enough to carry the light end of the coffin and the other son who wasn't as strong ended up at the heavy end....the fact that son happened to be gay might have offended some in some way....I know Sharron wasn't saying he wasn't as strong due to be gay, and wasn't having a go at him for being gay....

Rambling

Rambling Report 5 Aug 2017 15:29

I very much doubt it was reported for any mention of the one son being gay ( who would care about that?!) ...it was more likely that the comment re the lady's drinking and amputation was at the root of the report. Just my assumption.

Then as far as I remember, though you may correct me as I only glanced, the second thread gave more personal details of the lady's past.

How long dead does one have to be? imo probably more than a week or two I'd say.

It's generally accepted I think that making a joke about a tragedy, big or small, is less appropriate ( however funny it might be) the closer it is to the event?

Maybe the report wasn't because of any of that...maybe someone just had a bad day and was fed up,who knows, I'm sure I've been reported more than once because someone was just sick of the sight of my name :-)
